Video: Stewart skewers Pelosi on waterboarding

posted at 12:55 pm on May 13, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

I’d give Jon Stewart credit for going after Nancy Pelosi, except that she made herself such an easy target over the last couple of weeks. Still, even with that said, Stewart does a great job of ridiculing Pelosi’s insistence that she was never told about waterboarding, and that if she was told it was only in a hypothetical sense, and if it wasn’t strictly hypothetical it wasn’t her place to object because they didn’t seek her approval, because as everyone knows, the CIA outranks Congress, or something like that (via the Weekly Standard):

this is low hanging fruit for the liberal Stewart to do something one day to use the rest of the year to claim he is “obejective and non-partsian”.

Dance, Nancy, dance!!!

It’s unbelievable how many people don’t understand the first rule of holes (stop digging!!!)

It’s too late for Nancy, now. She had an opportunity a couple of weeks ago to come clean, but she continued to outright lie and now there is nowhere to hide.

Religious_Zealot on May 13, 2009 at 1:13 PM

Stewart can get bent, as far as I’m concerned.

I don’t watch him, nor will I. He’s shown his true colors, and if many citizens, of the left persuasion would just admit it, even they approved, right after 9/11. The anger, and emotions were strong, and we all would have done what was necessary to protect our loved ones, and ourselves. So for anyone to stand up now, and feign this outrage, is hypocritical, if not an outright lie!

When ever I’ve responded to your comments, I’ve always used respect, and never called you names. Why isn’t that reciprocated?

That may be, that he’s gone after other issues. I just choose not to watch him. I’ve seen enough to know that he, and Colbert are liberal leaning, and attack the right, far more, and more brutally, than the left.

I choose to catch news, and cspan, and read online. WSJ, WaPo, etc…

Only those that I’m certain are left leaning, and propoganda machines for the current administration, would be a waste of my time.

Oh, and using name calling in your comments, once again, demeans you, and diminishes your argument. It shows insecurity, that you can debate, without stooping to childish antics.

freeus on May 13, 2009 at 1:51 PM

I agree, and I never said I watched it. Nor will I. I simply commented on my past viewings, and why I no longer watch. I won’t waste time watching clips.

Stewart, in my opinion, recanted his comments about Truman, because Truman was a democrat.

Dropping atom bombs, and killing hundreds, of thousands of civilians, is less criminal, then the water boardings, they accuse of criminality under Bush?

I don’t accuse Truman for his actions, in a time of war, but I won’t criminalize Bush either, and the left seems hell bent on doing just that.

capejasmine on May 13, 2009 at 1:56 PM

I’ve got it. PLEASE….somebody get this to Gibbs right away….

When the Senate and House Intel committees were being briefed on detainee questioning, the briefer had a slight speech impediment, which resulted in the word “torture” being spoken more like “nurture”. Also, Ms. Pelosi is from California, so the term “water boarding” evoked the idea of something kids do at the beach.

This is why the Senate and House attendees almost unanimously asked if enough was being done.

It’s an innocent mis-understanding.

BobMbx on May 13, 2009 at 1:57 PM

The left would rather we have 3,000 more Americans incinerated than to pour some water on a poor Islamofascist Jihadi. Nice.

kirkill on May 13, 2009 at 1:58 PM

GarandFan on May 13, 2009 at 2:01 PM

All right, I just watched the clip. Stewart mugged, expressed anger, and never mentioned Obama’s name. Not once. How many times do you think Bush’s name would have come up in the same situation?

So my point stands. He went”balliistic” all right, taking the brave stand that it-was-a-stupid-stunt-and-boy-am-I-angry, but not on Obama, like I said. Just generalized anger.

docob on May 13, 2009 at 2:01 PM

When Nixon got caught in his Watergate lies, Barry Goldwater and other conservatives went to him and told him he had to go.

Where are any good liberals to go to Pelosi and tell that liar that she has to go?

MB4 on May 13, 2009 at 2:02 PM

The Dems approve of Pelosi’s lying about shirking her responsibilities. They knew better and even as the evidence mounts and they keep her as Speaker, it shows they still approve of it.

Remember this even after they finally have to get rid of her: The Democratic Party approves of lying about what they do. It approves of finding scapegoats for the actions they take. It calls for taking responsibility but shirks it at every turn. Hypocrites.

Dusty on May 13, 2009 at 2:02 PM

There’s a hole in your soul where all the abusing and lying comes from

I used to watch the show, along with Colbert, every night…the one sided shtick became numbingly predictable and ceased to be entertaining.

Anyhoo….how about some examples of the skewering of left wing liberal ideology that you seem to imply is a regular feature of the show?…come on….about 23 mins of show a night..over an hour and a half of non commercial time a week.
