Two great-news items on the film front

Last year, I had the privilege of seeing The Stoning of Soraya M, a harrowing, depressing, and remarkable depiction of a horrific crime in Iran and the sequence of events that led up to it. I reviewed the film at the time, but it never got into the theaters. It wasn’t difficult to understand why; the film is mostly told in subtitles, more or less bookended in English, and handles a very disturbing true story about an atrocity carried out by an entire village. Over the last eight months, I have checked back on occasion at the film’s website and on Amazon to see if the producers had given up and gone to a DVD release instead.
Fortunately, they persevered. I discovered in a review at Politics Daily by Carl Cannon, who was as impressed as I was about the film, that the film will go into theatrical release in six weeks, on June 26th. The film deserves as wide a release as possible; I wrote last year that it would have been the best film of 2008, had it been released, and it should compete for that title in 2009. If you have an opportunity to see this film, drop everything and go to the theater … and bring a handkerchief. Read my review to find out why this story had to be told to the widest possible audience.

Does anyone know where I can find out the towns or theaters these movies are scheduled for?
jarhead0311 on May 13, 2009 at 8:16 AM
I live in LA so I doubt it will make the theaters out here.

Now that it is not an election year, I guess hollywood can let us see some positive information about our side in the war on terror.

I didn’t get past “The Stoning of Soraya M” trailer. I know the story. People need to know about this film.

The Brothers movie shows good men standing up for their country, The Stoning movie illustrates what happens when good men do not stand up for their country.

Now why couldn’t Michael Moore have made either of these films?
rhetorical question.

The Stoning seems like a great flick…perhaps along the lines of Not Without My Daughter?
Of course, it’s not surprising at all these days that either they couldn’t get a distribution company for the film, or too many theaters wouldn’t carry it. All that “religion of peace” reaction to Dutch cartoons, not to mention Girt Wilders Fitna, would scare them away from this.

the Clintons have managed to continue to keep “Path to 9/11″ from making it to DVD, after censoring the TV version

Yes well, there are people who are vile dogs here too.

Thank you for the heads up on both of these movies. I hope to watch them both.

Shohreh Aghdashloo is amazing (I loved her in “The House of Sand and Fog”), and I love Jim Caviezel..this looks like a great film.

I’d say much better than NWMD. It has more subtlety, I think, and because of its uncompromising look at the practice of stoning, much more powerful.

Last line of the Brother’s trailer”

Thank you.

Any libs out there willing to condemn the Satan-worshipping cult of Islam for their barbaric, inhumane and unjust practices? Oh, I forgot, you libs are all for killing innocents, unless a Republican administration is in office when civilians are killed as collateral damage.
Liberals: Pro-abortion, anti-death penalty, silent about Islamic atrocities…what’s wrong here?

I was privileged to see a screening of The Stoning as well. It is fantastic and I highly recommend it.

Any news on the “Path to 9/11″?
dogsoldier on May 13, 2009 at 1:21 PM
I just reserved our tickets for the Houston screening. Thank you, Grace Hill Media.

Ugh. I swear I’m almost afraid of what this world is coming to. Not that stoning is new, but I’m afraid of the spread of Islam and shari’a law.
