Video: EPA memo says greenhouse effect not proven?

It appears that initial reports about the EPA memo this morning missed a key passage. The internal memo, marked “Attorney Client Privilege”, did warn about the negative impact EPA regulation of CO2 would have on the economy. But The Hill reports that it also challenged the notion that the EPA or anyone else had proven CO2 or other greenhouse gases to be harmful to humans:
An EPA finding last month that greenhouse gases are a danger to public health rests on dubious assumptions and could have negative economic impacts, a memo from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) warned.
The memo has no listed author but is marked “Deliberative–Attorney Client Privilege.” A spokesman for OMB told Dow Jones Newswires that the brief is a “conglomeration of counsel we’ve received from various agencies” about the EPA finding, the conclusions of which would trigger regulation of greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.
The author(s) of the memo suggest the EPA did not thoroughly examine the relationship between greenhouse gases and human health.
“In the absence of a strong statement of the standards being applied in this decision, there is concern that EPA is making a finding based on…’harm’ from substances that have no demonstrated direct health effects,” the memo says, adding that the “scientific data that purports to conclusively establish” that link was from outside EPA.
The memo then borders on secular heresy by suggesting that if warming was indeed the result of man’s activity, it may have beneficial effects rather than being a net negative:
Finally, in language sure to anger climate change activists, the memo questions whether climate change might bring benefits that would mitigate the costs.
“To the extent that climate change alters out environment, it will create incentives for innovation and adaption that mitigate the damages,” the memo reads. “The [EPA finding] should note this possibility[.] … It might be reasonable to conclude that Alaska will benefit from warmer winters for both health and economic reasons,” the authors note.
Senator John Barasso calls the memo a “smoking gun”, and notes the memo insists that the EPA has shown no deleterious effects from the gases Lisa Jackson wants regulated:
Will this kneecap the Obama administration’s efforts to get Congress to impose a cap-and-trade system? Republicans and Rust Belt Democrats will jump to embrace an EPA report that casts doubt on global warming science. The question will be whether the national media stays on this story and reports it fully.

Funny how it is rarely mentioned that manmade CO2 merely adds from less than one percent to something like five percent of total CO2 in the atmosphere depending on which study you read. So, the trillions that Obama and his legions want Americans to spend reversing manmade sources of CO2 will amount to a single digits change in total CO2 by percentage. And, the billions of persons in developing countries like China and India have no intention of following our policies. This is absolutely destructive contrived hysteria on the part of Al Gore and his pseudo-scientists enablers.

Well then we already know the answer.

The national media won’t jump on this story until something forces them to. That something may be coming. If you look at the NSIDC plots of Arctic & Antarctic sea ice you might notice that the total is pretty high. In fact, in about 6-8 weeks we might break the all time record high.
That’s a story the MSM would cover. If it happens (50-50 chance) the AGW hoax will be over in a flash.

Demented! That’s the perfect word! This whole stinking administration is DEMENTED!

I have been saying this ever since the Supremos decided to set environmental policy by declaring CO2 to be a pollutant. The EPA has internal requirements to rigorously prove that a material is harmful before it can be regulated. The current state of information about CO2 and Global Warming is not sufficient for this purpose.
The Supreme Court decision could be the best thing that ever happened, because it will force a thorough, rigorous review.

No Sh*t. Any 4th grade science teacher could have told them that 5 years ago. Green, green, green, frickin hate the color and word thanks to the “save the earth” idiots.

These lawyers should obviously be sued for advising the President! How dare they issue opinions that are so against the propaganda the left is pushing! Let the law suits begin!!!!!

Dang — Michigan’s been wanting to dump Dimgell (D) for years; what’s the chances that the White House will take on the job & accomplish that. ?

Jackson: “We’ll regulate whatever the hell we want to regulate. Who do you think you are asking ‘How do you pick and choose who you will regulate?’ We could regulate schools, churches, we could even regulate you if you’re not careful. But we don’t because we’re smarter than everyone else. Just sit down, shut up and let the adults handle things.”

Leftists will never give up Global Warming as a movement because it’s given them a perfect platform on which to deliver self-righteous lectures on greed, excess, sharing and the evils of industry and capitalism.
There are two observations to make about the left, given their behavior on this issue.
1) They don’t care about humanity since they’re using this phony green issue to express their hatred of everything that’s improved the living conditions of man since the Industrial Revolution. Capitalism – or ‘freedom’ – has done more to improve humanity’s lot than every single left wing cause combined…and then some. In just 200 years it more than doubled the average life expectancy of people living in industrialized countries. Not only that, it slashed infant mortality rates and increased birth rates resulting in the most dramatic population explosion in human history. I forget the exact figures, but they go something like this: it took hundreds of thousands of years for the world population to reach one billion. After the Industrial Revolution, successive billions were added in a hundred years, then 75, then 50 etc. There is only one possible explanation for this: capitalism improved living conditions to the point at which people could afford to have more children and those children survived to grow into adults of reproductive age. In response to this, the left usually retorts: “Hrrmph! Population growth is a bad thing!” Which means: we really wish more babies were dying. A love of humanity? I really don’t think so!
2) They don’t care about the Earth – think about how the left has responded to every single suggestion that the Earth isn’t as sick as they say it is. They react with anger, venom and denial. Dare to suggest the Earth’s fine and they call you evil. Yet if someone I cared about was dying in hospital and a doctor came in the room and told me that there was a good chance they’d be OK after all, I’d leap up and hug him and snatch at that hope like there was no tomorrow. I guess if I didn’t care about that person and would prefer they were sick, I’d probably get angry with the doc and go into denial. It’s clear the left doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the planet. They’re just using it to launch attacks against everyone and everything they’ve always hated. Humanity, poor people, rich people, conservatives, industrialists, individual freedom….and everything that’s good about modern life.

Not the EPA I know. The uneducated condem CO2 from coal and animals but applaud the CO2 from ethanol burning cars. Remember the leftists don’t like math, facts or science,. It is just that they hate conservatives so much more.

Thanks,
It’s good to see Al Gore and his eco-fundamentalist being exposed for the hucksters they are.
Now if America would just wake up and see the Obama administration for the disaster it is.
Baxter Greene on May 13, 2009 at 12:41 AM
There is a better correlation between national debt and the living environment of Americans than there is with CO2.
tomg51 on May 13, 2009 at 7:23 AM
For Ogabe it’s not about the environment. That’s a red herring. It’s about taxation, spending our money on pet projects and seizing more private industry and nationalizing it to consolidate his power. Any evidence to refute man-made climate change is merely a distraction and gorebal warming is a means to his ends. This POS will not be satisfied with less than full control over our lives and wallets. The constitution is little more than a bump in the road to that self-absorbed sh*t pile.
SKYFOX on May 13, 2009 at 7:59 AM
As far as I can tell there’s been no global warming for a decade now, in fact there has been a slight cooling trend. I consider this to be a real “inconvenient truth” for the eco-nazis.

????? Science? Since when?
Squiggy on May 13, 2009 at 9:21 AM
I heard a radio advertisement today about fat wallets.
According to the ad the oil industry (BIG OIL) has the fattest wallet in the whole world. And now that the fat cats want to take more of your money the fat cat wallets will have to be let out to suck up more of your money.
WHAT BULL. I would be willing to bet that the real cost of gasoline and/or oil products is taxes. Half of the cost of a gallon of gas is in fact tax.

You exhaled!!! Pay up or it’s off to jail with you!!!

It’s a ’smoking gun’ only if yer smoking weed. The report is related to whether greenhouse gases directly affect human health, and therefore can be regulated by the EPA. It questions those effects, not whether or not GW is happening.
As for the EPA and its enviro-nut cling-ons, as well as the public, it is becoming pretty clear that greenhouse gases are NOT properly regulated by the agency; but they will still be regulated by the feds in other ways. it’s coming folks, might as well be ready to deal wid it.
trailboss on May 13, 2009 at 2:10 PM
I don’t think it is possible to get sanity on this issue. When something morf’s from science to religion you haven’t got a chance. CO2 probably makes a minor effect on the climate. Man made CO2 practically no effect. The earth has been in a cooling cycle for about 10 years and we could be at the beginning of another “little” ice age but nothing shakes the true believers.

So we pretty much agree that:
Al Gore is a liar.
The debate is not over except in the mind of the left.
That the IPCC report is bogus. Of the 2500 SIGNEES of that consensus report 53 were scientist 17 were messengers 1 was a hotel manager and 2329 were internation political hacks with an agenda to reduce the U.S. to a second rate nation.
Oh i forgot the 100 scientist that did not sign but were still listed as endorsers of this political report. It seems strange that so many of the scientist that disagreed had to threaten legal action to get thier names removed.
And on top of all this stuff no one in the media mentions the more than 30,000 scientist that say that mankind is not responsible for global warming.
So what do we do? I will tell you. Instead of posting here I will post on every liberal blog I can find. AND WRITE ALL MY ELECTED OFFICIALS. Then I will write the local newspapers. I am going to get up off my tired 60 + year old butt and do something different. The fact that I just sat here and did nothing got me Obama and the left. Just remember right is right and left is wrong.
TomLawler on May 13, 2009 at 5:21 PM
That’s what sucks about this whole “global warming” hoax… It would be great if it were real, but sadly the science proves it is not. Living in VT, I’d welcome “warming”.
RightWinged on May 13, 2009 at 10:45 PM
The honorable[?] Lisa Jackson: “JACKSON: The Supreme Court ruled two years ago that EPA owed the American people a determination as to whether greenhouse gases, either in whole or individually, endanger public health and welfare.”
OK Lisa. Show us the science.
The memo: ” “There is concern that the EPA is making a finding based on harm from substances that have no demonstrated, direct health effects such as respiratory or toxic effects.”
Obamanation!
