Sanford, Perry plan virtual “Tea Party 2.0″
posted at 6:49 pm on May 12, 2009 by Allahpundit
Eh. Sounds cool in theory, or at least it would have if they had pulled in grassroots people to speak too and spent more time promoting it. As it is, this smells like a joint campaign event to remind the base who the real fiscal cons are ahead of a likely Sanford presidential run and Perry’s re-election bid against Kay Bailey Hutchison. Slapping the Republican brand on “tea party” won’t please partiers who want the events to remain bipartisan either, but I suppose that rubicon was crossed when Fox News went whole hog to promote the protests.
Hoping to recapture the grassroots energy of last month’s “tea parties,” Republican Govs. Mark Sanford of South Carolina and Rick Perry of Texas will host a tele-town hall Thursday that’s being dubbed “Tea Party 2.0.”
The Republican Governors Association said it is expecting 30,000 people to participate in the town hall, which will take place roughly one month after the much-publicized anti-tax tea party rallies held in hundreds of locations across the country on April 15, the tax filing deadline.
Sanford and Perry will each speak for several minutes before opening up the town hall to up to an hour-long question and answer session…
The RGA, Ayers said, is hoping to use the town hall as a springboard for organizing support and fundraising for key gubernatorial races this year in Virginia and New Jersey.
I might watch just for the entertainment value of seeing them field questions about secession and the inevitable ranting from Paulnuts about the Federal Reserve, but I’m guessing the informational value of this will be relatively low. What do you think, photo op or something more? To the extent that it puts grassroots conservatives in mind for better organizing, it’s all to the good.

Virtual Tea Party?
God no.
Please.
Tell me this is a cruel joke.

Just too much corniness for me.
A virtual tea party?
This is like Billy Idol starting that “cyber-punk” genre to me.
blatantblue on May 12, 2009 at 6:54 PM
First step in squashing the Tea Party movement by the Oligarchy.
Just like both parties worked in tandem to get rid of Perot and the Reform party, neither party wants their lock on Washington power to be threatened.
MSM will ever after this call the Tea Party movement a Republican movement… instead of a the Fiscal Con reality that it is…
Sad…

After being called a ‘teabagger’ I’m inclined to let these guys have the “Tea Party” moniker. We’ll think up a new one.

So. They’ll do it anyways. As long as the message is clear, it’ll work.

Its a good idea in theory, but it needs a different name. It should incorporate the townhall aspect — not protests by fed-up Americans.

I don’t have anything against Perry or Sanford specifically, but color me skeptical. When Republican politicians start playing real hardball with Washington then I might pay attention to what they’re doing. Until then, they need to get out of the people’s way. The country is headed down the drain. We can’t wait for timid politicians to do the right thing.

These guys totally miss the point. Any lazy ass whiner can “participate” in a “virtual” tea party. The power of the tea parties were that folks took the effort to gather in large groups. It was the first protest I had ever attended and I look forward to the next REAL tea party. I’ll skip this virtual nonsense.

If you don’t like the “moderate Republicans” then tough. Good thing I’m not a conspiracy theorist…

The thing is that Tea Party people might be angry with both parties, but their anger is mostly directed at Obama and his ridiculously huge deficits.
I understand the desire for bi partisanship, but at the same time they complain about a lack of interest from politicians. Well, this is how it works when politicians get interested.

Not a chance. They will NOT ride any wave. Both major parties have refused to listen to We The People. That’s why we’re in the untenable position that we find ourselves now. NO POLITICIANS.
We The People are not stupid. Politicians of any stripe are EXCLUDED from this movement. If you dare to show up (which is why they’re doing this on TeeVee) they would be publically shamed, humiliated and forced to the back of the line to sweat with the hot dog vendors, which is where these a$$holes belong.

Sanford and Perry ARE NOT Republicans – so it’s not slapping the “Republican” brand on anything.
Sanford and Perry ARE CONSERVATIVE FIGHTERS. They should be distinguished from the Republican Party – because “Republican Proper” means Mike Steele, Colin Powell, and apparently Arlen Specter.
Sanford and Perry belong to the DICK CHENEY FIGHTING ARMY OF CONSERVATIVE JEDIS.
The ones that will that will retake this country from fascism – even if they have to run on another ticket besides the GOP.
So this is TOTALLY appropriate.

The answer will be that we are all Americans and there shouldn’t be any secession unless the Constitution is violated irreparably.

Read the latest Market Ticker from Karl Denninger on how the government is literally robbing and you’ll realize just how serious matters have become. This cannot be allowed to continue. I don’t know what the answer is, but the government is completely out of control, and many Republican politicians are implicated. We can’t look at just party affiliation to differentiate the good guys from the bad guys.
For some real fun, follow the link to Karl’s Ticker Forum and read the comments from serious traders and market watchers who understand what’s really happening on Wall Street and in Washington. They are ready for WAR.

You’re absolutely right, Honda. Sanford has been elected and re-elected here in spite of the SC Republican party.

What is this worry about questioning the Federal Reserve. The Keynesians must have put the fear of God in mainstream conservatives that civilization itself will end if we abolish the Fed.
In reality, the government will have less money to play with for wars and socialism without a printing press, purchasing power for ordinary Americans will be steady without the megainflation of the past 40 years, and no more huge boom/bust cycles due to the central banks meddling. Remind me what the downside is again?

Especially if it’s Louisiana, your state has had some of the worst-performing schools in the country for a long time, so this Bozo would like to make your education even better with my tax dollars. If that’s too much big government I really apologize and invite you to try to elect someone who will shrink the gov’t, it’s a free country.

They are politicizing the tea party idea and capitalizing on it for their own gain. Seems to me that it diminishes the idea of the protests to begin with, it was not partisan, and it makes them no better than Obama selectively releasing stuff to make certain people look good/bad.

Greef, it stands for Los Angeles, and if we get any more liberal “help”, e.g. amnesty, this state is doomed. The middle class is slowly being squeezed out of the state. My contract is up in September, and where I wind up is anyone’s guess. Our public education system was #1 in the nation when I was a schoolchild; now I think we’re #49, ahead of only Mississippi, all while the NEA demands and gets more and more money. And don’t go blaming Proposition 13; blame the Serrano-Priest decision.
But don’t bother sending the Feds in to screw up this state — the California legislature and the mayors of the large cities are already screwing it up beyond any hope of redemption.

Let’s get back to basics here, consider this Quote from Alexander Tytler:
How do we stop this madness? The Statist’s need the taxPayers – the achiever’s and producers to sacrifice themselves for the “Good” of their Statist’s utopia.
If the taxPayers refuse to ‘Play along’ for even a short time period, the vote-buying revenue stream can be interrupted and we taxPayers can get their attention.
Both parties and the LSM can either ignore our protests or ‘Use’ them. There HAS to be something else that can be done.
I really don’t see any alternatives to stopping the course we’re on in the “Tytler Cycle”
