Outrageous outrage: Miss California modeled lingerie for E!

posted at 7:41 pm on May 12, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s late-breaking and connected to the big story of the day, which means the sheer momentous news value of it practically obliges me to post. A serious question hidden among the cheesecake here: Have we determined in the comments yet whether it’s “un-Christian” to pose nearly nude? That’s the clear subtext of the left’s obsession with finding risque photos of her, to play up her alleged hypocrisy, but lingerie photos are a Biblical gray area as far as I know. My hunch is that it might turn on whether your pose is likely to inspire lust, one of the seven deadly sins. In which case, I’ll see you in hell, Carrie.

Ladies, if you’re looking for some equal-time beefcake, I’d remind you that we posted a clip of Dick Cheney just two days ago.

The left’s argument is centered around hypocrisy. They don’t mind that she has some pictures out there of her bare breasts, it’s just that in their narrow interpretation of what conservative Christians believe, they think we teach you should show no skin. Therefore, it’s hypocritical for her, in their narrow view, to claim Christianity as the argument against gay marriage, then have pictures of her breasts.

This is simple: they sexualize all nudity. You get naked to get busy with somebody else. Unfortunately for them, many Christians don’t:

There is Saul who along with the Prophets of his day went nude (1 Sam. 19:24)

Isaiah walked around naked for 3 years as a sign to the people (Isa. 20:2,3)

Peter wore only his birthday suit when he was fishing – nudity being the work clothes of choice (John 21:7)
David danced before the Lord wearing nothing but a ‘revealing’ linen ephod (2 Sam. 6:14)

The Apostle Paul and Barnabas get naked as they show their humanness to the townspeople of Lystra when they thought they were the Greek gods Hermes & Zeus (Acts 14:14).

Then there is the all-pervasive element of circumcision. Starting with Abraham, God institutes circumcision for every male. Social nudity was common whereby a man’s circumcision (or lack of it) would be seen. From Abraham to the Apostle Paul such good nudity is the only way this special sign would be seen (cp. Paul’s circumcising Timothy, Acts 16:1-5; yet not Titus, Gal. 2:3). This helps explain why we fail to understand the significance of the identification of circumcision – we don’t have the cultural experience of social (good) nudity.

What makes them so incredibly hypocritical is that they don’t apply the same narrow standards to other things:

- We aren’t supposed to condemn Islam because of a few extremists (and they are right on the point, not the hypocrisy)

- If one person calls Bush Hitler at a liberal rally, they are “fringe elements you can’t avoid.” If one person takes a remotely, with a thin interpretation, racist sign to a tea party, all tea partiers are racist.

- If a Democrat is unethical, they get rules changed to hold onto their committee. Yet, all Republicans can’t help but be unethical.

- You can attend a church that preaches hate against whites and America, but it only takes disowning the pastor after the third offense to be exonerated from those views.

Breasts are used to feed children. They are only as sexual as the eyes looking at them. I admire their beauty in God’s creation (his best creation was woman), but they are not innately sexual for me.

There’s no double standard here, but what the left will never understand about Christianity is: forgiveness. Even Christians make mistakes; the difference is we feel bad about them and repent and ask for forgiveness. Liberals don’t feel guilty about anything that makes them feel good, as long as “they didn’t hurt anybody besides themselves.”

In Kalifornia, any decent looking chick with a nice pair will strip down bare ass naked for a few bucks. Rent is very high in Kalifornia….now for a few dollars more….

I’m a brunette man, (I think I’m in love with Miss Rhode Island) but Miss Cali is one of the hottest blondes I’ve seen in a long time…. ;-)

That’s the clear subtext of the left’s obsession with finding risque photos of her, to play up her alleged hypocrisy, but lingerie photos are a Biblical gray area as far as I know.

As I noted earlier, unless she marries another woman she’s not being hypocritical. Inconsistent maybe from a broad point of view, but for her to be a hypocrite she’d have to engage in the very thing she condemned.

The left seems very unclear about what constitutes ‘sin’. Perhaps if they paid more attention to the concept and it’s many nuances, they might be generally nicer? Modeling underwear does not fall into the category unless you’re a Muslim.

Blame your boy, Perez. She did nothing wrong.

Guess what? It gets better. She was on Hannity, and it turns out that the media and others are harrassing her 90-year-old grandmother. And guess what? It gets even better. Her deceased grandfather fought under Patton in WW II, and Gramps told her to fight for her rights because he, literally, fought for hers.

The Left can’t win on this one. Exit with your tails between your legs: Game. Set. Match.

*caveat: This is not intended as criticism of my fellow posters here.*

Why does everyone act so surprised that this attack:
1.) occurred in the first place? It was a given if not a complete setup from the word go.
2.) kept going in the face of hypocrisy on the part of the left? Also a given
3.) turned so vicious and hateful for so long? Once again, it was a given.

The attack on Carrie Prejean bears all the hallmarks of a by the book set of plays. It followed the Left’s bible on targeting: Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals. Specifically rules 4, 5, 6, 8, and their perennial favorite; 12. Go read the list and tell me if this wasn’t a textbook radical lefty approach. Sure seems that way to me. None of what they have done was a surprise.

On a side note: I love how the rest of the rules basically tell them that even if they lose they are winners and even if their opponents win, they really didn’t… I am lousy at things like this but SA’s Rules for Radicals basically seem to sum up as follows:
Find a target for your temper tantrum; make petulant demands that said target change its own values to match your own; scream loudly when target refuses; make dark and dire threats over things which you have no control; repeat demands; scream more loudly still, attack any aspect of target’s life no matter how ridiculous it makes you seem; scream until your eyes bug, spittle flies, and your face turns vermilion; demand that target’s supporters “be more moderate” (read: capitulate) about their beliefs because you don’t agree; blather, wince, repeat from step one ad endless nauseum until no one is listening to you any more; declare victory regardless of reality; find new target; start all over again…

Is that about right?

Sounds like my kids when they were between 2 and 4 years old… IIRC this attitude became undesirable when I turned their backside the same color as their face mid-tantrum. Viola. Two great kids with a future as successful human beings.

OK, sorry for the long-winded post, we now return you to your regularly scheduled 10 second sound bites…

After several minutes of careful study of this biblical gray area, I’m pretty sure there’s some pale yellow included, and some light orange on the fringe. As with many biblical issues, this one merits a lot of study.

I give you Michelangelo.

Either he was using nude models or thinking impure thoughts. No cry of foul here (towards him or the models he used).

Imagine, naked folks on the ceiling of a church. I guess that’s why we look down with our eyes closed while praying.

BobMbx on May 12, 2009 at 9:38 PM

No offense, but as someone who qualifies as an expert on ligerie and models, she’s simply not that hot as a lingerie model. She’s definitely not up to Agent Provocateur’s standards (NSFW, but a useful comparison.) She has a chunky body, tree-trunkish in form; generally lingerie models are lithe but still well endowed (lucky genetics or happy enhancements).

The many nude renderings in the Vatican art collection might inspire as much lust as Carrie’s underwear. Now just where do we draw the line on who’s a Chino (Christian in name only) and who’s the real thing. And by all means, let Perez Hilton and the rest of the Prop 8 opponents decide, they are so qualified to judge our adherence to Christian morality.

I believe a theological case could be made for modeling provocatively to be a sin.

But we need to very much remember that THAT isn’t the point.

First off, the left doesn’t really care or knows about real Christian values. Thus even ENTERING into a discussion about it is to lose the argument. Never discuss a topic on your enemies terms.

Second, we should be laughing our heads off at the left trying to convince us to be morally outraged. As has been said, these are the same people that think that it’s A-OK to take a fetus that somehow survived an abortion and just leave it in a trashcan to die. I’m certainly not going to allow them to discuss morality with me until they understand that killing children is wrong.

Third, the issue was and continues to be her view on gay marriage and the left’s display of “tolerance” and “diversity.”

coldwarrior on May 12, 2009 at 11:16 PM

Boy they aren’t very bright are they. All they are doing is making her look more and more mainstream rather than some Religious crazy.

TheBigOldDog on May 12, 2009 at 7:53 PM

I hate to rain on the parade here, but honestly, if posing in nothing but a skimpy vest, baring ones nipples to the world is mainstream, I really hate what my civilization has become.

I mentioned it on the other Carrie thread, but she lost my respect and I will never see her as a role model for my daughter if she continues the things she’s done.

I have no problem with modeling lingerie, but she has gone way over the line this Christian believes is within the realm of decency with those other pictures. Nudie pics=Soft porn, and that is not a Christian occupation. There was no way they were made for anything but promoting lust and we all know it. Some of us know it better than others from the sounds of many posts.

Again, sorry for being a downer, but it needed to be said.

And obviously forgiveness is not what you believe in, either.

You may want to take that plank out of your eye so you can better see that speck in other people’s eyes.

Religious_Zealot on May 12, 2009 at 11:29 PM

You’re correct.

However, the neat thing about sin when it comes to Christianity, is that if you repent of the sin you will be forgiven.

Which, of course, is the thing that these lefties don’t understand.

Whether or not what Miss Prejean did was a sin, Miss Prejean, like every other person on earth, is a sinner.

That doesn’t make her un-Christian (or a hypocrite)…

…it makes her human.

Religious_Zealot on May 12, 2009 at 7:57 PM

I have to add to this, if you also denigrate, do not acknowledge His Mother, the Immaculate Heart of Virgin Mary; to put Her down, to not recognize Her is the same as doing all these things to Jesus. Jesus does is not jealous or does not mind us Marian advocates who pray the Holy Rosary daily, along with other prayers.

With prayer, individual salvation comes to you, currently I am in that process of pilgrimage/consecration to Rosa Mystica/Mystical Rose, who appeared in Montichiary, Italy. She urges us three things: Prayer, Charity and Prayer.

My comment on Miss CA, kudos to her, I dunno I could’ve taken that much heat at such a young age, and I might have to do something about my body; not fair!

As for a beta male I go for smarts and sexiness…and El Rushbo has it all!

These are the two choices summarized in one. Number one–we’re supposed to hate her, and if they can get enough to agree with pannw on May 12, 2009 at 11:16 PM, then they will have succeeded in cutting her support system off at the knees, leaving her to crawl, shivering with shame, off of the public stage forever and ever–poorer but wiser for her brush with liberal rough justice.

The other choice is that she’s marked as a hypocrite–but this strategy is really for the choir, because only their fellow liberals would be dumb enough to think that her tendency to show a lot skin disqualifies her to hold the opinion that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Of course only liberals could think that Christians could have such unnuanced attitudes towards sin. Liberals forget that while they are very good at sinning, they are really lousy at thinking/talking about it conceptually, theologically etc., while Christians are adept, we would hope, mostly in the latter categories.

I’ve come to the conclusion that most liberal arguments are variations of “neener neener neener,” (ad hominem), and “bounces off me, sticks on you–only double.” (tu quoque)

We aren’t supposed to condemn Islam because of a few extremists (and they are right on the point, not the hypocrisy)
PastorJon on May 12, 2009 at 8:42 PM

And you would know because? Assuming you have actually read the koran and know that the first part of the book is superseded by the second: have you read the Hadiths, and Sunnahs? The few extremists you mention are conservatively put at 10-20% of the total People of Peace or about 120-240 million extremists.

And of course it is wrong to condemn the People of Peace when they condemn women to something less than 2nd class status, throw gays off tall buildings, stone to death adulterers, cut off body parts, and flog women seen in public with unrelated males!

These wonderful religionists are soon to become the mainstay of American culture (as they already are in Detroit), so yes you are so spot on Pastor! Here’s hoping you will enjoy your dhimmi status – it should come natural to you!

Dude, can you put a disclaimer on these types of posts in the future? I was having my breakfast when I read it and now have cereal throw up all over my floor.

Thanks for nothing.

It is probably more proper in the eyes of the Lord to keep your body covered, so as to remove temptation from your fellow man. But that’s a best practice, just as vows of silence help you come closer to God but aren’t an everyday practice.

God does not encourage people to be ashamed of their bodies. We’re encouraged to celebrate all of God’s wondrous works, including the human body.

No offense, but as some who received a Doctorate in lingerie and modeling and who now works at the prestigious lingerie and modeling Institute and who also is a Nobel Laureate in lingerie and modeling and who has propounded the Special Theory of Relative lingerie and modeling; I can assure you that Miss California is a major babe.

I’ve been thinking of furthering my education. Where is this school?

hawksruleva on May 13, 2009 at 9:13 AM

I have no problem with modeling lingerie, but she has gone way over the line this Christian believes is within the realm of decency with those other pictures. Nudie pics=Soft porn, and that is not a Christian occupation. There was no way they were made for anything but promoting lust and we all know it. Some of us know it better than others from the sounds of many posts.

Again, sorry for being a downer, but it needed to be said.

I’m sure many people would agree with you. I don’t think it’s my place to judge Prejean’s actions, and I believe she would be likely to be more modest as she’s matured in her faith. And clearly, her decision to pose in skimpy outfits (or model at all, really) puts her in a lot of situations that could get her in trouble.

That said, I think that the notion that all Conservatives are monkish prudes is a huge stereotype that Prejean can help dispel. Republicans can be HAWT, and not nearly as trampy as the heroes of the left. Carrie shows you can be a beautiful woman and still have self-respect.

As I said earlier, I do believe a theological argument can be made that it is a sin to pose provocatively for the public. Now, it should be noted that such a conversation is full of annoying gray areas (where do you draw the line between normal, acceptable clothing and clothing that provokes feelings of lust?)

However, I’m not going to have that discussion now because that’s EXACTLY the kind and type of discussion the left WANTS us to have. The point being that it distracts us from the REAL issues going on here.

So when the left accuses Miss Prejean of being a sinner, the proper response is, without conceding the particulars, to say “Of COURSE she’s a sinner. Everyone is a sinner.”

When the left accuses Miss Prejean of being a hypocrite, the proper response is:
“Well, first off, she’s not being hypocritical in her stance on gay marriage because she isn’t married to another woman. That said, I’m sure she’s a hypocrite in other parts of her life because we’re ALL hypocrites in one way, shape or form. Kind of like the co-executive director of Miss California who is having the vapors over these photographs despite the fact that she is a Playboy Bunny. And sort of like Perez “Copyright? What’s a copyright” Hilton being so concerned all of a sudden about “contractual obligations.””

These are all distractions from the REAL point -

- that a young woman was asked a question that shouldn’t have been asked by a judge who shouldn’t have been a judge and answered honestly.

Because of that, the peace loving, tolerance preaching, diversity worshiping left has tried to destroy her life because she didn’t have the “correct” belief.

Well-stated summary.

No matter what sort of pictures she may have posed for, I’d fail to see how it negates her opinion about marriage. If anything, it would just prove that preserving bride&groom marriages isn’t just an opinion of puritans.

Buddahpundit on May 13, 2009 at 10:56 AM

You can liken Christians who may stray off the straight and narrow to the prodical son of the New Testament. They may sin, but become aware of it and turn away from it.

You can liken non-Christians (most liberals fit this bill) to the prodigal pig in the book of Peter. They try to walk the straight and narrow but usually end up right back in the pig sty of sin where they can wallow away and are most comfortable.

iamsaved on May 13, 2009 at 11:28 AM

I have noticed those with the biggest mouths and loudest complaints are the hags of the progressive movement. She is a beautiful young woman and works in the modeling industry. How does one model lingerie if one doesn’t remove the outer clothing? Hell, her pics are no different then the Spiegel models in their sales catalogues. The majority of the American public holds the same views as she does, I don’t really see the big issue here. Seriously, would anyone want to see Garafalo in her lingerie? Or Perez Hilton? EEEEEWWWWWW!!!!!!

elclynn on May 13, 2009 at 11:30 AM

No matter what sort of pictures she may have posed for, I’d fail to see how it negates her opinion about marriage.

Bingo. It’s just another case of the lefts tactic of calling anyone who stands up to them as a hypocrite. For example, anyone who takes a stand against animal abuse but eats beef is a hypocrite.

peacenprosperity on May 13, 2009 at 11:32 AM

Keeping the institution of marriage based on the union of a man and a woman is not a biblical thing or a bigotry thing. It’s a BIOLOGY thing!

It’s the key point of this debate but proponents of gay marriage opt to pretend it doesn’t exist and scream “bigot” at those who point out the obvious. If homosexual unions are sanctioned as fully equal to heterosexual marriage then Family Law changes from being based on a mother and a father to parent A + parent C – parent B.

So getting bated into this secularism versus Christianity canard is merely a smoke screen.

RightXBrigade on May 13, 2009 at 2:54 PM

I simply do not understand the lefty state of mind. Carrie is easy on the ears and easy on the eyes. She’s a Christian. What more could you ask for?

No wait, can she hit what she aims at?

Blacksmith8 on May 13, 2009 at 6:24 PM

That’s the clear subtext of the left’s obsession with finding risque photos of her, to play up her alleged hypocrisy, but lingerie photos are a Biblical gray area as far as I know.

Perhaps it is Obama’s opposition to gay marriage that led to all of the shirtless photos we’ve seen of him?

BTW, am I the only one who believes this was pre-boob job?
