Radio silence: Limbaugh ignores Sykes
posted at 8:23 pm on May 11, 2009 by Allahpundit
No joy in Dittoville tonight. I don’t get it.
Talk-radio fans and political junkies buzzed in anticipation about what Mr. Limbaugh might say on his national, three-hour radio show.
Instead of retaliating against Ms. Sykes, Mr. Limbaugh spent much of the show praising former Vice President Dick Cheney, who on Sunday was much kinder.
Politico caught this bit near the end of the show and assumed he was referring to Gibbs’s statement:
During his show Monday — his first since Saturday night’s dinner — Limbaugh alluded to the dinner just once, calling it “showbiz for ugly people, that’s what politics is.”
There was, however, a mysterious moment during the show’s final minutes, when Limbaugh interrupted a dialogue on fiscal policy and, in a statement seemingly directed at his prodding producer, said, “How can they be running a response, when I didn’t respond? Well, there isn’t going to be a response!”
Why doesn’t he want to respond? Sykes is small potatoes, admittedly, but it’s not Sykes who’s the problem actor here. It’s Obama, for laughing stupidly at material that obnoxious and then having his own press secretary lie to the press corps about how The One supposedly believes it’s no laughing matter. This is as golden an example as you’ll ever have of shameless leftist hypocrisy over demonizing one’s opponents, and all the more so given Obama’s crap about “changing the tone in Washington” during the campaign. And Limbaugh’s going to punt on it? Any insight into what’s going on here, Rush fans? You know his thinking better than I ever will.
Update (Ed): I didn’t ask Rush about this during our interview because, well, he was interviewing me. Besides, if he wanted to talk about it, he had three hours in which to do it today. My guess: it’s small potatoes, as I wrote yesterday. Why add fuel to the fire and give Wanda Sykes credibility and a platform? As for Obama laughing at the joke, well … res ipsa loquitur.

She ranted about Hannity being willing to be waterboarded for charity, & she tried to paint him as a primmadonna.
jgapinoy on May 11, 2009 at 11:58 PM
And you, my dim-witted friend, no matter if you are as thin as a Somalian, are a douchenozzle. And you will never earn even a teensy-weensy (yes, yours!) (dare I say skinny?) fraction of what Rush Limbaugh donates every year to charity.
If you did, you would probably try to cheat the taxman.

By the way, Clinton pretty much blamed him for the Oklahoma City bombing. It didn’t hurt. He knows pretty well how the left operates.

We can only learn something from Rush in this case as to how to deal with trolls.
Don’t feed them.

Rush is right. Don’t give Sykes a platform.
Herb on May 12, 2009 at 12:18 AM
Sykes was poking fun at his former drug dependency. Does Rush ever talk about this period on his show? Maybe by mentioning the routine, he would be drawing attention to his addiction, something he doesn’t like to talk about.
Just a guess.

So that’s why Obama doesn’t mention cocaine…

Then he should stop eating hotdogs in public, too.

As if “his addiction” is relevant in any way, shape or form. Yes he does occasionally talk about the episode and if anyone would bother to learn the truth of the matter would find that it was a genuine life changing experience.
You do know “his addiction” no longer exists don’t you?

Nothing I have said has Alex Jones said, other than maybe Peter King’s pending gun grabbing legislation. If you refer to the Federal Reserve, you need to go much further back than Alex Jones to find the original patriots who called it what it is – a debt and inflation producing lending scheme.
Alex Jones and Rush Limbaugh get equal playing time on my radio IF I decide to listen to it at all. They are both good resources plain and simple.

Bingo. If he responds he has to address the subject of that that messy addiction, I doubt he wants to relive that.
It’s sort of like when people bring up Andrea Mackris with regard to O’Reilly. He ignores it.
They do not want to reopen those can of worms, a blow to those big egos.
AprilOrit on May 12, 2009 at 1:40 AM
Please, he wrote about it trying to garner attention, I think.

It always exists, you go to meetings to keep your illness in check.
It’s called recovery, one day at a time, but you are never really cured.
There is always a trap door and a drink and a drug at arm’s length if you don’t work your program and keep coming back.
It works if you work it, so work it – you’re worth it.
AprilOrit on May 12, 2009 at 1:56 AM
Sykes is a black, female, lesbian.
She wants the media attention…she has a tv show coming out soon.
But because she’s a bfl, she is no-touchy to the press.
Black Adam on May 12, 2009 at 2:16 AM
I’m late to the party, so I don’t know what people said, and unlike usual, I’m not going to slog through everyone else’s comments.
So, I’m sure this has been said before, but … who cares.
Rush responds when he’s attacked by people of consequence, whether it be John McCain, Colin Powell, Bill Clinton, or Barack Obama. Why on Earth would he feel the need to respond to an attack by Wanda Sykes?
notropis on May 12, 2009 at 2:46 AM
You obviously know nothing about Rush and have never listened to his show.
(Parroting Paultard talking points?)
Jenfidel on May 12, 2009 at 3:01 AM
Those comments about Rush were vile. Substitute ‘Garofalo’ or ‘Perez Hilton’ for ‘Rush’ and see how that would have gone down. Especially disgusting was joking about 9-11. Anybody know any good Pearl Harbor jokes?
The next time the terrorists attack and kill more Americans, I will feel no outrage at the terrorists, and I’m going to tell the Libs I know to F off because they voted for the guy that allowed it to happen…not going to buy into this ‘on such and such a date we all became ________ers (fill in target city) and now we are united as a People’ BS again.
Dr. ZhivBlago on May 12, 2009 at 4:05 AM
I am going on record that he may be considering a slander suit. Claiming to the public that someone is drug dependant can hamper personal and career related goals. Albeit, Rush isnt looking for a job, but had he responded and squabbled for 3 episodes about it, it would virtually weaken his case. Saying you hope someone fails is not slander, saying they are doped up is. Just a thought.
malkinmania on May 12, 2009 at 5:13 AM
I was hoping for this kind of “response” from Rush as soon as I saw this woman’s vile juvenility.
I immediately thought, “come on, Rush, she’s so far beneath you as to be irrelevant. I know there’ll be much more important stuff to talk about on Monday.”
Red Cloud on May 12, 2009 at 5:26 AM
If it drives those idiots nuts then I’m all for this tactic. How many days will they linger on his channel hoping – praying – for a validation that will never come.
BrideOfRove on May 12, 2009 at 5:33 AM
I thought Rush answered the situation perfectly. Sykes is a non-entity — her type of “humor” is a staple of the Left. Any one of a dozen “comedians” could have delivered that nasty little ad hominen attack. It’s what the Left does rather than engage in debate.
In the meantime, millions and millions of new listeners tuned in and heard Rush play clips of Cheney saying that the Obama Administration and their decisions were making this nation less safe. All of it set against the backdrop of the Obama in Chief giggling like a schoolboy at nasty little jokes about one of his political opponents.
Yeah, the Left scores again.
cruadin on May 12, 2009 at 6:26 AM
His response was with BHO’s own words. He opened every hour with BHO spewing his wonderful “the time for petty arguements, and political blah blah blah…..is over……..because, I am the president, and everything and everyone is going to be nice…….”
Dpet on May 12, 2009 at 6:32 AM
Rush is doing what he does best. He is taking the high road here and doing the one thing that he knows drives liberals nuts; namely ignoring them when they attack him.
pilamaye on May 12, 2009 at 6:44 AM
Good thought! I agree, it will be responded quietly, with class and a damn good lawyer that Rush already has set it up just for this. Bam!
Coastal Paradise on May 12, 2009 at 7:00 AM
You must understand that Rush loves this stuff and the longer he can keep it going the more profitable this show will be. He will milk it for as long as he can because he knows the media won’t leave it alone and everyone will keep asking him to respond. He understands these people to well. I suspect he will respond in his own good time.
Dollayo on May 12, 2009 at 7:08 AM
The right isn’t happy unless they have their daily “outrage.” Even if they have to manufacture one. They find something and then the rightwing noise machine issues the talking points, and away they go. Its like crying wolf all the time, after a while, nobody listens. Which is why the gop is imploding, your spokesmen are now, Cheney, Rush, Newt, and Karl Rove. What year is it? 1994? The gop will continue to get crushed in elections with their current mindset. How’z that current RNC chair working out for you? Hey, feeling that awesome teaparty momentum continuing? Just keep on attacking Obama, that seems to be working out so well for you. Rushbo wants Obama to fail, now thats a real patriot…..not.

Indeed. The thing does speak for itself. Remember Obama flipping the bird to Hillary during a primary speech? He’s a petty, low-class jerk, and that’s all he’s ever been. The people who believed his tripe about putting aside partisanship and “childish things” are the same fools who believed he would govern as a moderate, instead of the big tax-and-spend liberal he’s been his entire career. The only people who don’t see this creep for what he is are the people who don’t want to see.
AZCoyote on May 12, 2009 at 8:25 AM
Ironic that a guy named Hussein who had a Muslim father and attended a Muslim school while living in a 99% Muslim country is yukking it up at a 9/11 joke.
Stay classy Obama.
angryed on May 12, 2009 at 8:34 AM
Yes, Obama laughing his a** off during the Rush rant was very telling about the character of the man. Cold blood flows through this mans veins, with a cold heart pumping away.
Drug addiction is a reality of life. Millions of people around the globe are fighting this battle right now. Hundreds of thousands will lose this battle this year alone. Others will fight and win. Most of us have someone close to us that either fought this battle and won, is fighting the battle right now, or lost the battle. That classless bi**h attacked the character of every human fighting this battle across the globe. President Obama showed the world much about his own character, caught on tape laughing himself silly over such trash.
Keemo on May 12, 2009 at 8:34 AM
Ironic? … more like celebratory.
garry on May 12, 2009 at 8:45 AM
Of course, folks may well end up “forcing” Rush to comment on it, which gives him the benefit of having tried to stay above the controversy as well as eventually getting his shots in.
Doing the right thing often results in win-win situations like that.
hawksruleva on May 12, 2009 at 8:59 AM
Rush’s listening audience increased by huge numbers following the attacks by the teleprompter. Every time these bottom dweller Liberals decide it’s smart to take on Limbaugh, they wind up expanding his audience. Listen to Rush a few times, and he’ll get your attention.
Back in 1990, my wife and I were on a road trip to a camping destination in N. California. My wife turned the radio to Limbaugh, telling me that since we couldn’t get any good FM, I want you to listen to this guy for a while. A few hours later I had become a Rush fan. Happens to the best of us!
Keep sending people to hear Rush Liberal twits, it’s working out pretty good.
Keemo on May 12, 2009 at 9:03 AM
And to top it off, his humor is as egregious as comrade Wanda’s. I’m referencing his quip about Ron Emmanuel not being accustomed to saying ‘day’ after ‘mother’. What a low class crew of thugs. Nice president you have there.
DanaSmiles on May 12, 2009 at 9:05 AM
Why didn’t Todd Palin walk up to the podium and slug her ebonic mouth for that remark about pulling out early? It would have been the single most AWESOME thing to see a man stand up for his wife and daughter, while also upsetting the precious hate mongerer-in-chief’s apple cart.
Ris4victory on May 12, 2009 at 9:06 AM
Todd Palin probably didn’t have a can of Lysol or pair of gloves and didn’t want to spread whatever that ‘thing’ is infecting.

Rush addressed this when Obama first started this attack on a radio host who also would be a formidable enemy. Rule #5, and Rush’s listeners all understand the media is happy to oblige THEIR President. Nothing to say.
There are more important things now, and Obama uses staged diversions like Mustardgate, Nipplegate and Puppygate to get the public paying attention to anything but Scare Force One, gift gaffes, foreign policy stumbles and SPENDING!!!

Why should Rush respond when everyone else is defending him?
The problem I have with her “joke” is, if a conservative made the same crack, the MSM would mock outrage. Instead, they all laughed at her “jokes”.
kregg on May 12, 2009 at 9:34 AM
Limbaugh is showing how to handle small potatoes, you ignore it.
Whenever Sykes screws up, and she will, Limbaugh will laugh at her then. Like, her sure to be canceled talk show coming up on Fox.
Moesart on May 12, 2009 at 9:45 AM
The way to get back at these idiots, every once in awhile, is for the most popular man in the media to ignore them.
It sends the message, “you are not worthy of note”.
It works with the trolls here, when others finally wise up and stop responding to the trolls, they suddenly become nice, find a thread they can post “nice” statements.
Then they are back at it…Sykes is just a troll looking for attention.

Bizarro No. 1 on May 12, 2009 at 10:20 AM
He can usually work up a pretty good rant on this type of stuff. He always likes to point out that the Left is actually far guiltier of personal attacks, for example.
AnninCA on May 12, 2009 at 10:21 AM
In a year, listen to Wanda Sykes complain bitterly about being frozen out of various projects and venues. You alienate half of your audience, you become for them a, to use another Latin phrase, persona non grata. “res ipsa loquitur” is about my fav Latin phrase. The thing speaks for itself. It is what it is. Like Reagan said. Don’t be afraid to see what you see.
Paul-Cincy on May 12, 2009 at 10:24 AM
I hope he doesn’t say a word about it. It will drive the media and Sykes crazy.
jewells45 on May 12, 2009 at 10:27 AM
Gotta pick your battles. Rush defines the battlefield and he’s not gonna let Sykes do it for him. With so many republicans falling on their swords these days, it’s good to know he’s out there fighting the good fight.
dingbat on May 12, 2009 at 10:29 AM
Others have pegged it. They want to portray Limbaugh as a “hatemongerer,” so any response he might have made would have played into that. And then Sykes could make the talk show rounds posing as Rush’s latest “victim.”
Rush is smart to respond as he has by putting other, more important issues in focus. Sykes’ moment in the spotlight is over and now the left won’t be able to obscure the smallmindedness of her remarks (and of Obama’s laughter at them) with manufactured outrage at Rush’s “official” response to her.
Missy on May 12, 2009 at 10:30 AM
By “they” I meant the left. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.
Missy on May 12, 2009 at 10:32 AM
If she hadn’t mentioned Rush himself, I believe he would have commented the way you expected.
The problem with what you are saying, as I see it, is that since Rush was part of her attack, any comment by him on the Left’s double standards is going to be seen by some as a defense of himself, and he doesn’t want to give them even that, the tiniest of morsels.
Rush is a master at knowing what he is doing; he isn’t where is he is because he is a dummy! Rush knows well to not play within the framework his enemies have created, whether that framework was intentionally conceived or not…
Bizarro No. 1 on May 12, 2009 at 10:35 AM
Rush is too classy to get into a mud-slinging match with the likes of Sykes. Even the left knows that Rush is not a terrorist, even if they believe him to be a bigoted blowhard.
By not responding, Rush lets Sykes’ remarks stand out, and might get people curious about “who is this Rush Limbaugh and why do Democrats hate hims so much?”, and some might start listening to Rush. Meanwhile, Rush is after bigger targets, like socialism!
Steve Z on May 12, 2009 at 10:35 AM
Good point. I forgot about her upcoming pilot for Fox. The future doesn’t look so rosy for someone sucking up to the establishment, poking fun at Rush’s previous pill habit and making crass jokes about 911. It’ll do for her career what AIDS jokes did for Andrew Dice Clay. Talking about her as if she were important makes her more so — and undeservedly.
chunderroad on May 12, 2009 at 10:44 AM
It would have reinforced the Left’s image of conservatives as violent rednecks.
Although, if Todd Palin had wanted to respond, he could have said something like, “When I think of children who resemble the beautiful and elegant Governor of Alaska, I have no desire to pull out early.”
Steve Z on May 12, 2009 at 10:44 AM
Funny how if Rush is involved, suddenly these threads start looking like a sympathetic methadone clinic, yet others are freely ridiculed in other threads. And Rush is a case of abusing drugs, fistfuls of pills, the extreme case of irresponsibility. It probably made him go deaf.

Rush knows this.
Rush ain’t dumb.
He’s actually right, 99.8% of the time.
RedbonePro on May 12, 2009 at 11:18 AM
I would like to agree with that, but can’t.
In a normal world that would work.
If Limbaugh won’t go after her, they will have to make do with others attacking the poor minority. If the trolls here get ignored, they will just feed off of each other, and congratulate each other on their ability to defeat those who do not agree.
The lefty’s have the presidency, the house by a large margin and the senate in an about to be filibuster proof margin. They also have the main steam media, and these folks are still not happy. I have been paying attention to this for a while, and it seams, at least to me, that the left is incapable of being happy.
They seam like it sometimes, but that is when they are being fawned over, or doing the fawning over their next savior. Or when they are working to destroy something, or somebody. But it isn’t real happiness, its more like schadenfreude as a way of life.

No way, no how, does Limbaugh file a slander lawsuit. He’s a public figure and, while incredibly tasteless and cruel, Sykes’ statement was a joke and not a statement of fact. Thus, he would have virtually no chance of prevailing, and would look like uber-sour grapes in the process.
My guess is that Rush is not responding because of the drug abuse issues. First, it doesn’t help Rush’s image to have that association attached to him. Second, I don’t know if the statute of limitation has passed yet. Remember, the Florida authorities were deciding whether to prosecute him a while back for that, and I am sure Rush doesn’t want to accidentally say something that could get construed the wrong way and used in a prosecution.

Isn’t it telling that to moronic, hypocritical, bad-humored Leftists, strangertologic for good example, it’s somehow ‘funny’ when people on their side have to resort to manufacturing unreal, straw-men caricatures of people like Rush passive-aggressively and deceptively under the guise of humor in order to ludicrously attack them because they’re really just childishly angry that people like him dared to criticize their 0bamessiah, but somehow it isn’t quite so funny when other people factually and therefore legitimately mock the pampered 0bamessiah’s seemingly endless commitance of danquayleisms, and when they mock the deliberate avoidance of his defenders to acknowledge that their Messiah actually presents himself to be about as competent a person as he is a bowler?
