Gibbs on Sykes: On second thought, 9/11 isn’t an appropriate subject for humor

Isn’t it this guy’s job to convey Obama’s thinking to the media? Then how to explain this answer when we have video proof of The One merrily yukking it up during Sykes’s offending bit? Good lord, even Keith Olbermann thought it was “probably” in bad taste, which, coming from him about a fellow lefty, is tantamount to nuclear-hot outrage.

Ben Shapiro said all that needs to be said about the fundamental cowardice of dumping on Republicans at Obama’s big debutante ball:

Wanda Sykes, by contrast, is the most gutless and feckless performer ever to grace the White House Correspondents Dinner.

Sykes, for those who haven’t seen her stellar work in gems like CondomNation, Brother Bear 2, and Over the Hedge, is a militant lesbian with a grating voice and an obnoxious strut. She recently proclaimed during the California Prop. 8 debate that “Everybody that knows me personally, they know I’m gay … Now, I gotta get in their face. I’m proud to be a woman. I’m proud to be a black woman, and I’m proud to be gay.”

Well, apparently she’s not so proud to be gay. Because when given the opportunity to make jokes about the nation’s leading proponent of opposite-sex marriage, President Barack Obama, she said precisely nothing. Instead, she chose to gently stroke his ego with jokes about his pecs, his dog, and his basketball skills.

Eh, this is Clinton redux: Just as feminist outrage was muted then in the interest of serving the Democratic power structure, so is gay outrage muted now. In the great taxonomy of political identities, “Democrat” — the stamp of virtuous intentions — still trumps all.

The classiest members of the GOP like William Buckley’s son and Peggy Noonan preferred Obama to Palin. And for better and for worse, Obama has the class of a college professor.

thuja on May 11, 2009 at 6:00 PM

…and the morals of a goat, less good sense than God gave a crowbar and all the class as a pack of wolves. Just wait until Obama taxes them out of their wealth…

No class

rob verdi on May 11, 2009 at 6:45 PM

Has anyone read the Mike Lupica piece today?

It’s a must read, but I can’t get the link up because it keeps going down the memory hole.

Can you post it Allah?

Knucklehead on May 11, 2009 at 6:46 PM

As for Obama having the class of a college professor? Please. Whatever that means…

College professors are guaranteed jobs no matter how badly they screw up. In other words, they are actually rewarded for poor job performance, not punished for it like us normal people.

CBS Sports analyst from Ireland, David Feherty, a friend of Dubya and a long time supporter of our troops, recently joked:

“From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this though,” Feherty wrote toward the end of his column. “Despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Osama bin Laden, there’s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death.”

CBS Sports immediately distanced itself from his comments. Feherty issued an apology yesterday to Pelosi and Reid.

Media Matters has of course twisted Feherty’s intent and believes he owes an apology to the troops for allegedly aligning them with terrorists who would enjoy murder.

On the other hand, any pressure from Media Matters on Wanda Sykes to apologize to Rush?

Apparently, former NSC adviser Richard Clarke disagrees with Press Secretary Gibbs. Clarke says it should not be reflected upon even when debating whether to close where those who plotted 9/11 are being held.

This whole liberal hypocrisy thing disgusts me. Just the fact that president pantywaist alligns himself with the MSM and the Hollywood “elite” is barf inducing. Nobody really has to get hurt, but I long to hear that “shots rang out” during one of their stupid, self-congradulatory soirees.

anniekc on May 11, 2009 at 7:34 PM

It is a wonder these men can shave – I fail to see how they can look in a mirror. We are actually supposed to believe that the WH Press Sec didn’t talk to the President before the briefing when the comments had generated so much discussion? Really?

Just curious-I didn’t bother watching the performance by Sykes the other night, but did she crack any jokes about waterboarding?

I read Lupica today. He is another girly-man libtard that was slamming Rush. I am no Rush fan and never listen but Lupica took the std wingnut stance. He did slam Sykes as well but the rest of the article was just nanny state drivel.

I’m sorry, but I can’t see what good it does to raise too much hell about any of this crap. It’s not going to give any of them pause in the future to not just keep doing it. What’s the point??

She’s getting the Oboner Standard Public ‘Under the Bus You Go’ and Standard Private Wright/Ayers Follow Up ‘You know we don’t really mean it, loved every thing you said, need to shut the ‘clingers’ up…blah blah blah’….

The check is in the mail….

BigWyo on May 11, 2009 at 8:14 PM

Wow, the way he paused and looked down – it was almost like he was really giving it serious thought, hadn’t discussed it with the O, and was contemplating his answer! Only the snarky comment at the beginning gave him away – as always.

Did I mention he makes me puke?

Mr_Magoo on May 11, 2009 at 8:15 PM

When I say that Obama has the class of a college professor, it’s not because I think college professors should be role models for us. It’s just that they are popularly perceived as having class. In contrast to popular perceptions, I hold that class as defined by a certain dignity in how one lives is unrelated to one’s income or occupation.

Yes, that Keith Olbermann should adminster it to Sean Hannity (said as “when is Hannity gonna do it, it’s easy to do when someone you trust is doing it to you” kinda way).

No sh*t Sherlock….

Hog Wild on May 11, 2009 at 9:59 PM

I’m sorry, folks. I’m all ad hominems about this scenario.

I’m waiting for someone to win an Emmy, then – on mic – say something career-ending like, “Thank you for this honor, and btw…our President is a moron and I hope he fails” just before going into hiding in Tibet.

I would lock myself in a room and play it over and over and over and over…

Maybe among Hollywood morons who never even went to college and romanticize them. Anyone who has spent time at a college knows that most of the professors are just as vain and stupid as anyone.

And outside of useless Women’s Studies courses, who listens to feminists today?

In the great taxonomy of political identities, “Democrat” – the stamp of virtuous fatuous intentions – still trumps all.

There, FIFY.

ss396 on May 12, 2009 at 12:38 AM

Gibbs obviously missed Obama’s performance at the same dinner. Didn’t the Mistake make his own casual “joke” about the “nine-eleven reenactment” over NYC?

hillbillyjim on May 12, 2009 at 1:07 AM

Yet Der Fehrer, O’bunghole was LAUGHING HIS ASS OFF. Imagine if someone had said the same about O’bunghole at CPAC, they’d be in prison.

nelsonknows on May 12, 2009 at 1:31 AM

Gibbs’ boss seem to think it was pretty damn funny.
