Quotes of the day
posted at 9:45 pm on May 10, 2009 by Allahpundit
“One of the things the media could do – some of the media – is to move the debate off Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh,” Bennett, a CNN Contributor, said on State of the Union. “This is probably not the future of the Republican Party,” added Bennett.
“You don’t think Gov. Palin’s the future of the Republican Party?” queried CNN Chief National Correspondent John King.
“I do not,” said Bennett. “It could talk about a Paul Ryan or a Mike Pence. It could talk about a Bobby Jindal. It could talk even about a John Kyl or a David Petraeus. You know, there’s a lot of talent in this party.”

I thought, “This is the most confident person I’ve ever met.”

I prefer lever-action to just about any semi-auto. The lone exception is the Springfield Armory’s M1A.

in lever guns I am looking hard at a M1895 Stainless guide gun with tri-rails…..
figure an action job mated with 45-70 goodness and a good scope will be a fun thing
sven10077 on May 11, 2009 at 2:03 AM
I’m a lefty so bolt-action is a bit awkward. A BLR on the other hand is the best of both.
I like the 45-70. When I shoot something I want it to stay dead.

The M1895 guide rifle is nice and priced right. That and a .45 acp S&W revolver make a nice camping combo.

I have only watched Jindal’s moves.
He’s not going to be “the one.”
I agree with the earlier article on Palin. I don’t know if she even wants this challenge. She’s obviously keeping her options open.
And that’s smart.
But I haven’t seen if she wants it.

I inherited an old Pistol/pipe desk Lamp (yes a pistol made into a lamp!). It breaks open like the old Webley for loading but this is a off brand and ugly. Of course, it’s no longer a lamp. Yep, if you are going to have a gun in the house, it should be in working order and ready when you need it. No hot charges in this baby but soon it will rock again.

Man, the number of conservatives I have respect for is dwindling in short order. Adios, Bill Bennett! Mike Pence? John Kyl? Jindal is the only one on his list worth a mention. I swear the people at the upper echelons of this party are hell bent on failure. Also, I suspect if Gov. Palin weren’t a woman — and a very attractive one at that — she wouldn’t be so readily dismissed by these closet sexists.
I love the governor’s new Twitter page. She seems really enthusiastic about it. My favorite tweet so far came today when she offered a hearty invitation to one and all to come visit Alaska — clearly aimed at the tool in Juneau who is trying to run off all the tourists and shut down Piper’s lemonade stand. For someone who is supposedly such an artless naif, she certainly knows how to cut off her opponents at the knees with a smile. Kinda like Ronaldus Maximus.

I think Terry Silver is on George Soros’ payroll. There is no way that a true conservative says that conservativism doesn’t change fast enough with society and culture.
In a nutshell, conservatism IS individualism. Everything in Washington right now is a direct attack on individualism. We must fight back hard and strong. We can not allow the RINOS and pretenders paid by Soros, to hijack the party and the movement.

Even Benett sees what a mistake nominating Caribou Barbie would be. Of course, the wingnuts will cry “the libruls attack her because their scared she would beat Obama in 2012″ Dude, wake up, every fellow Democrat I know prays Caribou Barbie wins your primary. She is a national joke, along with her family. But please, elevate her too the top, Tina Fey is salivating over the chances of Barbie running again. Barbie can’t even run her own state now that oil revenues are down. I liked the line she used in last falls campaign, “Obama pals around with terrorists.” Hey Barbie your HUSBAND belonged to the Alaska Independence Party, that wanted to break away from the US. What do you call that? Barbie is a dream come true for the Democrats, a cute airhead with radical views. She couldn’t even win women. So go on and tell me how she would whip Obama again, I just love fairy tales.

of worshipping the ‘ONE’,they seem to be in agreement that
the best choice for the Republican Party presidential nomin
ee,is Governor Sarah Palin!
Why! Because Charlie and Katie,in their Liberal mindset

So,Liberals are whinning about the treatment of Obama,in
which Hopey is a serial gaffetastic screw-up,with a new all

daily!
But,SarahCuda if her telepromter go’s south,can improvise
on the spot, and keep going as if nothing happens!
However, its not the same for Obama, when the telepromter go’s
off,Hopey is royaly screwed,up a creek so to speak, and his
brain might take 10 seconds just to search for a thought, let
alone for words!
Oh ya,Liberals HATE Sarah,no question!
Governor Sarah Palin,in a debate,would verbally slaughter,
the 2 year Senator Obama!
And,Btw,Obama can see Chicago, from his kitchen window!!

If she is such a “dream come true for the Democrats,” why are you rat bastids engaging in an all out assault on her personal life?
You losers only engage in that sort of personal destruction when you’re deathly afraid of someone. That is the unadulterated truth.
The left is afraid of Sarah Palin. Do I want her to be my candidate in ’12? Who knows — time will tell.
But I know this: The idiot moron jerk off wackos on the left are scared shi’iteless of this woman. If she was a “dream come true,” y’all wouldn’t be attacking her every single damn day.
blatantblue on May 11, 2009 at 8:00 AM
Palin is not going to make the party into herself.
Palin has that CONFIDENCE that miffs hacks to death.
Palin has already proven her willingness and ability to throw 100% support behind whoever the GOP decides upon, while simultaneously being herself, true to her own convictions.
She’s phenomenal in the best way.
BTW, Charlie Crist is going to run for FLA.-R Senate. And the question remains of RINOs, will they (Jeb Bush) endorse and support Crist.
I like Bill Bennett a lot. He’s correct in saying to get off any one “favorite” whether Palin or Limbaugh to avoid practicing myopic vision ourselves or enhancing tunnel vision in detractors/supporters, or feeding the killer frenzy in the MSM and Obama adminstration and Capitol Hill.
Palin is the face of the new Conservative moderate Republican. That doesn’t mean that she MUST hold this or that office. Let her be herself, and do whatever magic she does best her way. We support her for supporting our Constitution and our national defense and our economic development via free trade and capitalism: DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW!

Trolls have no existence where none is given.
Your mission, should you accept it, is to skip over turds.
maverick muse on May 11, 2009 at 8:13 AM
Point taken, but I think of them this way:
You’re walking down the street on a nice, cool, brisk October evening, and you come upon a leaf.
It’s been dead — dried up, and shriveled for quite some time.
But there it is, looking you dead in the eye, saying, “CRUNCH MEEEEEE!!!!”
And you have to. Instead of skipping over it, and heading to the bar with your friends, you step on the leaf, and that “crrrrrrunch!” is so satisfying.
In sum, I think of many of these trolls as crunchy leaves, waiting to be, begging to be stepped on!

Mitt would be fantastic on the economy and business. (And yes, I say that as an evangelical Christian.)
No matter how you look at it, Palin ENERGIZED the base! Even the libs compliment her on how nice she is to work with, and how confident she is. The President needs to be a great communicator… and then surround themselves with the right people to carry out the plans.

jjjen on May 11, 2009 at 9:26 AM
Exactly.
PRIMARY GOAL: THE RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PARTY PLATFORM.
Everyone agrees that the Constitution and Bill of Rights MUST pre-empt every other piece of subsequent legislation. If not a legitimate amendment, then regardless of “understanding” or “need”, unconstitutional legislation has NO PRIORITY over the Constitution.
The only reason we were told that we “needed” the Homeland Security was because government officials were negligent. The Patriot Act is NOT being used for national defense, but against the Citizen, specifically, against the conservative movement.
Just as Obama has determined there is no war on terror, the Patriot Act therefore is no longer determined appropriate.
Morons need not infer that there is no terrorism, only that Obama has “spread the wealth” taking federal eyes and means off the terrorists and applying full strength against the legitimate Constitutionally aware conservative citizens.
Corruption knows no bounds in the Federal government where each branch neglects its own purpose and duty in order to assume the responsibilities of the other government branches. There is no separation of powers when Soros Inc. owns all.

I agree with Bennett that she won’t be the nominee. I like her and was glad McCain put her on the ticket since he would have lost in a landslide otherwise, but I think she’s too one-dimensional.
She excited the base because of her views and because she wasn’t afraid to take on Obama and I think she’d be good as a VP running mate again. But at the top of the ticket? No.
Sensible Mom on May 11, 2009 at 9:42 AM

Whether she runs or not, Palin will be part of the future of the party. She can fill a stadium or a fundraiser like no other Republican today. That is what the lefties really fear most of all.
littleguy on May 11, 2009 at 10:18 AM
She’s in better shape than the media wants you to know. A couple of the “ethics violations” were recently dismissed (of course), and you may notice that Obama is now ticking off Greenpeace on the Global Warming/EPA/Polar Bear issue.
Let’s see, who was it that stood up to the EPA over Polar Bears again?
Obama may flop on this too, but I think he’s wary of handing her this issue with the strong likelihood of rising energy prices soon.

The obvious point that Palin and supporters make is that she has everything it takes to SOMEDAY run the entire show, and that at THIS POINT she is the tipping point of the GOP.
Catch up on the HotAir headline article on the role of Republican Women, the minority within the GOP minority.
By Erika Lovley
maverick muse on May 11, 2009 at 10:31 AM
I think I hear your overall point, but I don’t think Palin would “moderate” the GOP. Part of her attraction is an apparent willingness to contrast Conservative vs. Progressive principles, rather than accomodating them by saying “let’s move the party to the left to pick up independent voters.”
cs89 on May 11, 2009 at 10:44 AM
Erika Lovley does a nice report @ Politico.
The reader should bear in mind that since the Democrat women are the majority national female voice, that slants the findings, that though accurate, mean more than what they would have them mean, given their own Democratic prejudice.
MY POINT REMAINS, that Conservative Women ARE held in contempt at the bottom of the nation’s barrel, to be NOT seen and NOT heard. And the libbers who mutiliate and cannibalize and assassinate are damned good shots and have the loudest chorus granted venues in papers, television, and blogs.
All the more reason to back Palin’s role as the representative new face of the Republican party. Palin has SO MUCH to offer, and such true grit, far more than any male Republican conservative.
And McCain deserves applause for noting her abilities, even though he really hated doing so–Meghan represents what McCain would have the GOP female be. Palin proved his scapegoat, but Palin’s rising from McCain’s ashes proves that Conservative Republican Women make the best leaders. I most certainly give Palin my vote of confidence in her part to play in the GOP conservative momentum even as she gains further experience. She need not lead the GOP POTUS ticket this time; but assuredly, without her support, the GOP POTUS ticket will be a dismal disillusioning failure.
It’s a RINO thing. It will remain a RINO cancer so long as there are elected Republican Socialists propagandizing progressive populism within the GOP.
As far as Michael Steele on the upcoming GOP candidates, everyone MUST let water under the 2008 bridge be gone (Romney whiners) and learn our lessons and everyone continue to unite under the Constitutional banner on the GOP platform of equality given the rule of law.
Meanwhile, support Palin et.al.
maverick muse on May 11, 2009 at 10:48 AM
cs89, careful how you “quote” as those ideas are reported by Ms. Lovley, and are not my ideas, simply what’s happening right now.
As per “moderate” I’ve noted a few things these past weeks.
1. Reagan was the quintessential Republican Moderate. He stood for the Constitution unflinchingly against Communism. But as per much else, he listened to the spectrum of voices, and then made his decisions as much by instinct as anything else. In that, Palin has some parallel to Reagan, also in her downright congeniality.
2. Mark Steyn sitting in for Rush Limbaugh last Thursday conversed with a caller who made excellent points on what “moderation” is and is not.
3. Subsequently, Cheney chimed in.
I have no argument with Cheney’s point, and Steyn’s points; they agree with me on the necessity to maintain definitions without selling out corruptly to revisionism. I have been arguing with Allahpundit all along against the further endorsement of the progressive movement. Historical perspective truly matters today. Therein, I agree with the findings of Jonah Goldberg, Amity Shlaes and Mark Levin. It should NOT be a generational thing any more than it should be a gender thing to be staunchly supportive of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

maverick muse on May 11, 2009 at 11:04 AM
Sorry if it was unclear, just pasted the ending with your name in.
I also agree with you about Palin’s congeniality (and Reagan’s, for that matter). She can be open to compromise when needed (e.g., oppose same-sex marriage but facilitate some accomodation for partners in the law) and seems to be a pragmatic administrator. My biggest issue with the current “moderate” fetish is how it is filtered, in that it is usually defined in the public venue as moving the GOP left and compromising core principles.
Thanks for your thoughts.
cs89 on May 11, 2009 at 11:14 AM
Amen. I have 3 rules for 2012:
1. Ignore any “advice” from anyone residing inside the bubble of the DC-NYC corridcor. Especially someone who managed to lose $4M in slots like Bill Bennett!
2. I want someone conservative, someone with charisma, and preferably someone west of the Mississippi. That excludes Romney, Sanford, Jindal and host of other sure losers.
3. Whoever the media bash, the trolls attack and the RINOs warn against the most, should be our nominee.
Norwegian on May 11, 2009 at 11:18 AM
Bennett agains proves that Washington ruins people. He has become blinded to the fact that every attack against Sarah is a feather in her cap. Conservatives know this is a fact.
I wonder what Bennett thinks of Meg McPain. I’ll bet he thinks she is well rounded, and deserves a place in the GOP’s rank and file. I see her as proof that the apple does not fall far from the tree.
Both Rush and Sarah can take care of themselves. The GOP and Bennett cannot. You choose which you wish to represent you.

I agree with Bill Bennett that she (Sarah Palin) won’t be the nominee.
If you are so clairvoyant I would love to accompany you to Las Vegas and win big.
What disturbs me about any assessment of Sarah Palin is when pundits who dismiss Sarah Palin as a legitimate Presidential contender for 2012 without citing her superstar talent and abilities and thus using the Left’s ploy of ignoring or distorting reality.
To deny that Sarah Palin is a major player and probably one of the two finalists left in any Presidential competition is intellectually dishonest based on her superstar talents of charismatic presence, authentic and eloquent speaking ability, and ability to raise boatloads of money.
And once Sarah becomes one of the two finalists I would give her a great chance to gain the nomination.

Crikey, Dude, it’s my opinion. Don’t act so threatened.
I like her, and I think a lot of women identify with her. However, I also find her one-dimensional. I don’t think she has “superstar talents of charismatic presence, etc.” and frankly I don’t want a charismatic in office since we already have one in Obama.
My gut tells me she’s not going to be the nominee (even with seasoning in foreign affairs and economics). I wish it wasn’t true, and I wish I felt more comfortable with her running. I also don’t think she’ll recover from the media’s savaging of her.
I may be wrong, but I don’t think I am.
