Ted Turner: You know who’s done pretty well with population control? China

posted at 6:26 pm on May 7, 2009 by Allahpundit

Revelatory, not because it catches Turner opining on a subject about which he knows little — I do that for a living — but because, forced to make an assumption about Chinese policy to fill in the gap in his knowledge, he gives them the benefit of the doubt. Is there any aspect of Chinese governance that doesn’t involve “draconian steps” at some point to deal with public noncompliance? Why would this be any different? And of course, it isn’t. Incidentally, if you think China’s population control experiment has been a “success,” take a look at this number. Things are going to get very interesting in Asia, very soon.

I’m almost afraid to ask what sent him off on this line of discussion. Presumably it’s global warming. Aren’t shrinking western birth rates thinning the herd for him quickly enough? Click the image to watch.

I swear, I will never understand how this man became so successful. He seems to be one of the biggest idiots to ever walk the planet.

Anyone would be surprised to see how frank some movers and shakers are about how they admire the Chinese “experiment”. Its a more pervasive view than it seems.

draconian IDIOT! But I guess if I had to climb on top of Jane all those years I would have lost my mind by now too….

Controlling the female population, that is. The male to female ratio is time bomb of its own.

Apparently Ted and Jane found some interesting flora in Southeast Asia.

The problem is now self-induced mental retardation.

Notice the absence of a snarc tag.

Isn’t there a shortage of females for all the billions of males in China because of forced abortions of females? But that isn’t draconian, per Turner, just common sense. Say what? (BTW, it may bite them in the end, or worse, may bite some other innocent country when their males decide to find females.)

NebCon on May 7, 2009 at 6:42 PM

In reference to my above comment, this information had been out there for some time. My previous thoughts had only been on the demographic time bomb involved. When reading the article from AP’s linky thingy, it mentioned that in some regions, couples, if the first child is a female, they are allowed another to get a boy. Then the implications hit me.

bikermailman on May 7, 2009 at 6:43 PM

The truly sad thing is that he sees this as a GOOD thing, as though it is natural to selectively and barbarically mold the populace into the way you desire, and damn the consequences.

Such thinking reduced millions of people to ashes sixty years past, and will do so again if left unchecked.

tgibson1962 on May 7, 2009 at 6:43 PM

If Hanoi Jane had become a Christian for real, she might have given a real apology, not the fake one, only for her self interest (a couple of movie projects, and trying to appease people). She also made clear that she wasn’t apologizing for going over there, just for posing for pictures with POWs.

More info at snopes, would have cut and paste, but they seem to have disabled the function. Near the bottom of the snopes article.

That is what is occuring. The “Western World” is reproducing at a 1.6 child per family rate. The muslim world at 8 per family. At this rate the mussies take over by 2050, this means all Western nations. The numbers don’t tell lies. Just by sheer numbers we are taken over. Can you say Allah Akbar?

Mommypundit on May 7, 2009 at 7:01 PM

I am of the firm belief that China’s method of population control is going to be a contributing factor to a World War at some point. You cannot have such a gender imbalance between men and women, without something breaking at some point. All those extra men are going to have to have some outlet for their aggression.

coyoterex on May 7, 2009 at 7:01 PM

Hey Ted, I thought you said global warming was going to turn us all into cannibals soon? Won’t that take care of the “population problem”?

It’s also interested that he goes cluelessly from “voluntary” family planning to… China. When he gets there, enough reality must have invaded his addled brain to talk about the fact that they do incentivize the one-child policy, but then he throws out that “not draconian” garbage.

Well, I cashed in a whole lot of 401k money, and have been investing it in the above (gold in hand, not stock), plus food, barter items, and the like. I just don’t see the economy being able to continue another ten years, much less the 20 or more til I can retire. The way I see it, this is a relocation of investments, and if I’m wrong, then I just work til I keel over in someone’s front yard. :P

Seriously, you’re doing a whole lot for the future by having those babies, and teaching them well. Another recommendation, learn. Learn everything you can about the founding of the country, the law, the philosophy of freedom, train the kids in matters scientific. The truth is, yeah, we can see the pieces falling together, but we’re not there yet. Things are going to get very bad, even before the prophecies begin to happen. Even then, just because the pieces are all together, who says things will happen on day one after that? Society is being dumbed down in so many matters, and having a core of knowledge to rebuild around is going to be important.

Yeah, everyone, I sound like a kook. So sue me! :P

Just wait till that whole generation of Chinese men arrive well into their twenties and thirties. Where are they going to find the brides they will surely lack?

To find the answer, look around the peripheral of China. Just like the Sabine women to the early Romans, there are lots of land to conquer… and lots of women to choose from…

I don’t think Turner realizes that Chinese conquest is in the horizon.

Many unfortunate Chinese men have been forced to resort to dating [buying] women from Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia… truly sad.

That said, perhaps Chinese tactics aren’t really Draconian. They are something far different – something we should challenge Ted on. People are allowed to have more than one child, but those that do will receive government sanctioned discrimination. This is not empowering the individual, Ted.

Mommypundit on May 7, 2009 at 7:41 PM

Being divorced, I just cannot homeschool my kids, although I do wish that I could. I am lucky enough that even though they are in a public school, it is a bit more conservative and suburban than most schools in the area. Then again, that might explain why they are consistently ranked at or near the top in several categories. Also a very active parent base. I think the parents being active is the key. They also have some nice mentoring programs for students. My oldest daughter, while in 8th grade, was mentored by a 12th grade young lady that had just been accepted to West Point.

coyoterex on May 7, 2009 at 7:47 PM

Mommy, you can always tell a homeschooled kid from the first few sentences out of their mouths. When we were that age, it usually meant social, er, inadequecies. Not any more! I’ve said for a long time that if I had kids, they’d be private schooled at the least, and homeschooled if possible. My gf has a five year old, going to a really good Christian school. She’s been subbing at the gubmint schools lately, and the horror stories, even in Amarillo Texas!

Nuke, when I was a kid, I always wondered why my dad hated her so much. He didn’t allow any movies of hers to be shown in the house. Never really explained in detail, a young kid wouldn’t have gotten it. As I got older, and learned, I have the same feeling for her.

Turner loves Commies:
Ted Turner has called Christianity “a religion for losers,” & Catholics “Jesus Freaks,” & pro-lifers “Bozos.” But Turner is not so mean-spirited to everyone–after once looking gulag-stuffing Soviet leaders “in the eyes,” he was eager to defend them: “…they looked like they meant the truth.” When asked if he agreed that Christian-torturing Kim Jong Il is evil & despotic, he admitted, “I didn’t get to meet him, but he didn’t look, in the pictures that I’ve seen of him on CNN, he didn’t look too much different than most other people.” http://newsbusters.org/node/8225 Most people look like green-pajamas-clad Elvis impersonators, right? Turner insisted that it can’t be so bad in N. Korea, because he “didn’t see any” brutality or starvation.

Revelatory, not because it catches Turner opining on a subject about which he knows little — I do that for a living — but because, forced to make an assumption about Chinese policy to fill in the gap in his knowledge, he gives them the benefit of the doubt.

Absolutely awesome writing.
