Quotes of the day

posted at 10:30 pm on May 7, 2009 by Allahpundit

“A friend of mine, whose father is also a conservative politician, used to joke it would be easier for her be a lesbian because then there would be no risk of getting pregnant and having a resulting scandal.

I have always found this joke incredibly sad—for both of us. Because the GOP continues to struggle with open communication about serious issues most people deal with rationally, and on a regular basis. Unless we learn how to integrate that kind of discussion, our party will continue its descent into irrelevance. We live in a big world, one where you can contract a life-long STD, have an unplanned pregnancy, or get date-raped, just to name a few of the dangerous results of having sex. We should prepare our kids for it, realistically. Then they might be more apt to make the right choices when they live in it themselves. Bottom line: honesty isn’t a liberal or conservative issue. It’s a human one. The sooner we realize that, the better off we’ll be.”

***
“Valerie White, executive director of the Sexual Freedom Legal Defense and Education Fund, a legal-defense fund for people with alternative sexual expression in Sharon, Massachusetts, says she believes that triads are actually a great way to raise a family. ‘Years ago, children didn’t get raised in dyads, they got raised with grandparents and aunts and uncles—it was much looser and more village-like,’ says White. ‘I think a lot more people are finding that polyamory is a way to recapture that kind of support.’ For a year, Loving More’s Trask and her then-husband were both involved with another woman, who was a part of the family. Trask’s three children knew all about it. ‘I’m totally out,’ says Trask.”

This is not a shot at you, but the sentiment of your comment…

I am still waiting for the day when AllahPundit pimps out Paris McCain for blog hits and comments and I can click on the link an hour after it’s been posted and see that there are no comments on the thread.

Want Paris McCain off of HotAir, stop commenting on her posts. When it comes down to it, regardless of the ideology of AllahPundit, he has a job to do. If certain posts do not get blog hits and comments, he will be forced to stop posting on those particular topics as they are not worth the bandwidth.

Really, I don’t know who is more dense, Paris McCain or the commentors who complain about AllahPundit posting her drivel, yet come here to comment on her threads over and over and over and over again.

The only think I object to here is your assumption that people commenting and complaining don’t realize that they’re contributing to the problem by responding.

I’m sure most of us get it. It’s just that some of us can’t yet resist. The desire to point out how worthless are Meghan’s “insights” and prescriptions is like a siren call, unfortunately.

That will hopefully change, but I think you’re incorrect in assuming that we don’t understand the problem.

Bottom line: honesty isn’t a liberal or conservative issue. It’s a human one. The sooner we realize that, the better off we’ll be.

The praise of honesty is on everyone’s lips, and I do imagine the praise is often heartfelt. I won’t bother to praise honesty; I have people to do that for me. Moreover, I think understanding is best served in the long run by prudent combinations of honesty, fraud, discretion, inwardness, hiddenness, disguise, dissembling, and anonymity.

Well, let me stand up for AllahP again here…not that he needs or wants my help…I posted what I did from Meg-Meg’s twitter because it shows she’s a twit. I was not trying to drag AllahP into it at all.

For those interested, go read his twitter where he admantly and eloquently defends his criticisms of Meg-Meg to a friend of his who is a Meg-Meg supporter.

It clearly shows he is a gentleman who finds Meg-Meg charming. I don’t, but I admire that in another human being.

So, it’s an ‘awwwwwww’ moment to be sure…but he stands up for us…his readers…the Republican base too.

I admire him a great deal. So, I’m not sympathetic to any cheap shots sent his way…and he get’s a ton of them every day and still get’s up every morning and gives us great content.

WisCon on May 8, 2009 at 1:06 AM

R D on May 8, 2009 at 1:08 AM

I think that the GOP just has to recognize that there are echoes. For example, there’s nothing wrong with anyone saying, “It’s OK to postpone sex.” That echoes in people’s minds back to the day when the “moral majority” insisted that any hint that teens were sexual would encourage more sex. Sex is just instinctual. Teens couldn’t stop that train if they wanted. They are hard-wired.

I thought Meghan’s remarks about Republicans not being able to discuss sex was just plain ridiculous. But I have said repeatedly, it’s not ridiculous when you’re her age. She’s just a kid, blah-blahing like we all did at her age. We all thought we were the generation to discover sex.

I think I was lucky, since my mom was very pragmatic. She said, “This business of condoms has been a fight between men and women since the day they were invented.” LOL*

Gee, an era later, she’s still right.

“We live in a big world, one where you can contract a life-long STD, have an unplanned pregnancy, or get date-raped, just to name a few of the dangerous results of having sex.”

I am so sick of liberal democrats acting like we here on the right don’t know any gay people or people that have babies out of wedlock. We have family members, friends, neighbors & co-workers too, just like they do. We deal with these issues not just on society’s level or in our govt. But for many of us (possibly all of us?) it is way down deep & personal…..right here in our own lives with people that we know. I don’t understand what makes them think that we are so completely separated from “real issues” and “real people” with “real problems”. Hello!!! Sheesh, these libs should really try to get out of the house more.

AUINSC on May 8, 2009 at 12:11 AM

The rest of us are perfectly aware of Mcshamnesty’s daughters “substance”, and we find it to be non-existent. So responding to her idiocy only gives it credibility. This is why we don’t argue with piles of dog shit that appear on our front lawns. The only difference between her and the dog shit is that we will give it enough attention to have it removed. She is less important than that.

CarolynM on May 8, 2009 at 7:40 AM

Here’s what I’ve never understood about the party: its resistance to discussing better access to birth control. As a Republican, I am pro-life. But using birth control and having an abortion are not the same at all. Actually, the best way to prevent abortions is to educate people about birth control and make it widely and easily accessible. True, abstinence is the only way to fully prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Still, the problem with abstinence-only education is that it does not make teenagers and young adults more knowledgeable about all the issues they face if or when they have sex—physically and emotionally.

Actually, John McCain would have done America a huge favor if he’d told the reporter to leave teen-Meghan out of the interview, to respect the girl’s privacy.

Progressives (Meghan) have a major hang-up when claiming that “Abstinence Only” means that abstinence is the only acceptable conservative birth control measure. Abstinence is the only sure way to stay not pregnant and not infected by STD (abstinence from sexual activity, not simply intercourse), as Meghan wrote. That is merely a fact; that does NOT mean that conservatives may not utilize other measures.

make teenagers and young adults more knowledgeable about all the issues they face if or when they have sex—physically and emotionally.

That education would be best left within the family. Schools are NOT in the business of emotionally bonding with children except to exploit them. The media is absolutely in the business of exploiting people, so there’s not reason to entrust the media or educators with the parental custodial role that they’ve already usurped.

BTW, Meghan, that “girlfriend” story is your own, which is fine, but ‘fess up since you pulled it out to sell your message.

maverick muse on May 8, 2009 at 7:41 AM

Because nothing stinks of dishonesty than telling youth that sexual relationships are fleeting before marriage, that abortion is murder and abstinence is so much more rewarding, once you’ve delayed gratification until the proper time.

Wretched, filthy lies!!!!

Mommypundit on May 8, 2009 at 7:42 AM

Where is she(Meg)coming up with these ideas? Sounds as if she’s started to get her ideas of how conservatives think from the lefty media. I guess it’s escaped her how supportive most of us are about Bristol Palin for example, it’s the left tearing her apart. While some conservatives are biased against homosexuals, most are not. When it comes to bias, some of the left have their own pet hate projects–servicemen, people who don’t embrace their ideas, evangelicals….et al. Meghan is rapidly descending into irrelevancy by her repeated insistence that large numbers(if not all )of the conservative arm of the GOP are narrow minded folks. We aren’t and I’m tired of hearing her say so. My leeway for Meghan’s immaturity is exhausted. She is a shallow, attention seeking, deliberately trouble causing, immature, misinformed and stupid big mouth.

jeanie on May 8, 2009 at 7:43 AM

Here’s what I’ve never understood about the party: its resistance to discussing better access to birth control.

Meghan speaks from her own experience, referencing her own protected childhood. Fine, but Meghan’s experience is not the rule.

Who is resistant to discussing access to birth control? NOT the GOP. Not Republican leaders. Not the majority of Repubicans or the majority of Conservatives. Don’t “fill me in” with dogma that we respect. We respect responsibility, and that most definitely includes home schooled sex education and medical appointments.

Universal Healthcare socialized medicine:
Besides the Feds having everyone’s DNA to exploit, they’d be as abusive with your medical records as they’ve already proven abusive with all sorts of confidential records reported to the press in order to ruin people. Little Suzie can’t enjoy privacy because her medical records are a matter of school knowledge.

maverick muse on May 8, 2009 at 7:53 AM

You know? This is good. I like this. Let the church be the one to tell the truth. Our light will be brighter…we shall see who the liars are and who is honest about humanity.

For the record, my abstinence-only parents raised me to be chaste. I broke that pledge after high school and made my own choices. I was on bc and finally determined to stop with the wild lifestyle…when, lo and behold, I was raped and conceived my first child. My christian Republican parents were warm and supported me and were 100% by my side, regardless of my past.

This argument is personal.

Was my decision to live like the world says to live their fault? Or my own? Are stds, unplanned pregnancies, and emotional scars from broken relationships parents’ fault or the teen who choses the go in the opposite way?

My sister and brother were raised in the same household. We are all honest with each other and they were virgins when they got married, were super popular but never got wrecked even in college and never did drugs.

Choices.

“Irrelevance” is a relevant term, politically speaking. Something I am surprise Ms. McCain doesn’t grasp.

Mommypundit on May 8, 2009 at 7:42 AM

Agreed. But she wants us to do even more – “educate” our young daughters about all the deviant aspects of sex because God forbid they have any healthy expectations of a loving intimate relationship. So why stop with date rape? Lets make sure they consider gang rape. In fact, we could bring science into it and ask our girls to formulate a mathematical equation about their chances of getting STDs with a date rape vs gang rape. I mean, it’s all about dialogue and education.
After the rape consequences, we can launch into the whole host of foreplay options open to them. We Republicans should cease being foreplayophobic.
Then, let’s get into how it’s ok to dabble in a little girl on girl petting.
And let’s be sure to instill in our daughters that men are opportunistic predators never to be trusted.
And never forget to emphasize that sex has nothing to do with love, intimacy, commitment or responsibility.
We Rebublicans owe it to our daughters to have as perverse and self destructive view of sex as liberal women have. Only then will Ms. McCain be satisfied.

CarolynM on May 8, 2009 at 8:12 AM

The hyper sexualization of kids is concerning. The left has done a bang up (no pun) job on them in the public screwel (heh, Rush) system and we see those results. Why is this never, ever leftist’s fault? Why can we not fault the liberal, sexual indoctrination of kids via media and public school? No, we need MORE!!!! And, while we are at it, lets also tell elementary school kids about the joys of gay sex, too.

But, Meghan must, once again, contradict anything and everything that the Palin’s do…even subtly. She has this ridiculously garish cross she bears to prove SHE is so cool and different than those back woods Palins and other uninformed, uncool republican families who merely cling to guns and religion. I knew girls like this in High School and college…and I felt sorry for them…but I avoided them like the plague because, wow…EVERYBODY knew how desperate they were.

Allah, I know you put her out there for your comment quota…but…giving her more air time isn’t helpful. That is, unless you are totally fine with the mocking and marginalizing of your own party base. That is sad…but, not totally unexpected.

Being a cough moderate doesn’t mean you job is to beat up on your party.

Repubs are trotting out Meghan McCain as the new GOP.

shomegirl on May 8, 2009 at 12:02 AM

Repubs, well noted WHICH ‘pubs are selling Meghan as the “new” Pub Face.

She is not a loose cannon. She is embedded in the daddy crony society that sold out the Constitution in order to look bipartisan. She is not that delicious a Delilah, just a bleached blonde daddy’s little girl party Barbie Chatty Cathy. It isn’t that she has nothing to say. It IS that she has nothing NEW to say, and is saying the MSM mantra ad nauseum. Whatever ugliness she attributes to Conservatives are her own hangups with her own daddy, not ours. John McCain, if nothing else, over indulges for popularity in the good ol’ boys club that loves a whore.

BTW, Tom Ridge pulled out of his campaign to campaign vs. Specter. Actually, he was not going to campaign against Specter; his campaign was vs. Tancredo, lobbying against the NEW GENERATION OF GOP STRENGTH. Interesting to note that he chose to await another opportunity. So will he prove penitent for having cursed America with the Homeland Security fascist takeover of our Constitutional Government? Surely I jest.

That pretty much raps it up… And for anyone that thinks we are singling out MegMac, you pointed out that she’s not alone.

That’s so un-Kewl to apologize for making government larger… ask Colin.

Upstater85 on May 8, 2009 at 8:54 AM

The only reason stuff like this would be a “scandal” is because of how the LEFT would react in a situation. Briston Palin wasn’t a huge issue on the right as much as it was tool for the left to bash the right. It’s a glaring hypocrisy. It’s no big issue with the left unless you are somehow tied to the right.

Unless this is all just basically complaining because they can’t just abort without consequences, which just seems childish.

How come Ms. McCain’s ‘honesty’ never seems to spotlight on the democraps?

eaglewingz08 on May 8, 2009 at 9:15 AM

I don’t understand what makes them think that we are so completely separated from “real issues” and “real people” with “real problems”. Hello!!! Sheesh, these libs should really try to get out of the house more.

Cheesestick on May 8, 2009 at 4:40 AM

Like most liberals, Meghan is obnoxiously arrogant and believes that the only reason one would disagree with her is ignorance. Smart people would be “worldly” and liberal just like her!

rhinos like Meghan McCain is the REASON the GOP is falling apart. When a party leaves its BASE the whole party FALLS!!!

JihadKiller1s1k on May 8, 2009 at 10:07 AM

AWESOME!! If being a GOOD Republican means a wife AND a girlfriend then color me Republican forever!
Oh yeah and I think my wife is switching to democrat and calling a lawyer or something……..Some people just have no party loyalty!

We live in a big world, one where you can contract a life-long STD, have an unplanned pregnancy, or get date-raped, just to name a few of the dangerous results of having sex.

Wouldn’t this be a good argument for not having pre-marital sex?

PappaMac on May 8, 2009 at 10:32 AM

“A friend of mine, whose father is also a conservative politician, used to joke it would be easier for her be a lesbian because then there would be no risk of getting pregnant and having a resulting scandal.

So Meg-Mac is friends with Cheney’s daughter?

We live in a big world, one where you can contract a life-long STD, have an unplanned pregnancy, or get date-raped, just to name a few of the dangerous results of having sex. We should prepare our kids for it, realistically.

Maybe the best way to prepare our “kids” (daughters) for that is to inform them of the dangers, so they have the strength to say “no” until they are ready to assume motherhood.

Rather than Meg-Mac who dabbles in politics with her father’s name, tries to be “sexy” and has no idea what she’s talking about, a better advocate for sex education is Bristol Palin, who has been scandalized by her ex-boyfriend and the media eager to heap shame on her mother. Bristol Palin has the courage to admit that she made a big mistake and has learned her lesson, and is telling adolescent girls “DON’T do what I did–see how much trouble it gave me and my Mom!” Bristol Palin can connect with girls far better then Meg-Mac, because Palin knows the consequences of a bad decision.

Suggestion for AllahPundit: Why don’t you do conservatives a favor and marry Meg-Mac and live happily ever after, and leave the political blogging to Ed Morrissey?

I don’t understand the grecian style dress thing…confused..

Mommypundit on May 8, 2009 at 8:24 AM

Our boy asked her what she was wearing to the WH Press Correspondent’s Dinner. He needed to know so he could advise her as to a hair accessory, which he refers to as a “headdress.” Ever since he saw that stupid headband she wore on Larry King, he’s been obsessed with it. If only he knew how much that crap cost.

Why is the head of Moomoo McTwinkie on this thread?

BillaryMcBush on May 8, 2009 at 1:37 PM

Ah, the gentle remonstrations of the self-righteous…

I particularly like the part where she asserts that Republicans won’t “talk openly” about problems like teen sex, teen pregnancy, and alternative family structures that other people “deal with rationally.”

I don’t know a single soul who has the least bit of difficulty talking about these issues. We just insist on civilized behavior; and for some reason, whoever it is that uttered the nonsense at the top of this thread thinks civilized behavior is “irrational.”

This is the mealy-mouthed dissembling they use because they want to disguise the fact — and fact, it is — that they genuinely approve of all those irresponsible acts they pretend to oppose.

philwynk on May 8, 2009 at 1:46 PM

this is a political party, not a crisis pregnancy center.

Funny how “progressives” talk out one side of their mouth about leaving social issues at the door, then out the other side of their mouth they go on and on about sex. Sheesh.
