Campaign to destroy Miss California somehow turns even nastier

posted at 5:00 pm on May 7, 2009 by Allahpundit

Time for ye olde airing of the family dirty laundry in the guise of armchair psychoanalysis. I’m surprised it took this long. Usually the very first bit of mud to be thrown at a conservative critical of gays is the charge that they’re gay themselves and are channeling their denial into “hate.” That line of attack got postponed in this case thanks to the eagerness of pageant sources to whisper about her implants and the ready supply of topless photos, but now at last it’s time. With a twist: It’s not Prejean herself who’s being called a closet case but dad. Classy.

Carrie’s parents filed for divorce in 1988 and the divorce and custody fights went on for more than a decade — it was a divorce filled with homosexual allegations hurled by both sides.

In one of the docs, Carrie’s dad describes a confrontation he had with her mom in 1996, in which he recounts an argument in a restaurant parking lot, where “Ms. Prejean accused me, in front of our daughter, of homosexuality.”…

Carrie’s mom says the “gay” allegations went both ways. In court papers dated May 16, 2000, a report from the court-appointed counselor says “The mother also alleges the father told the girls their stepfather was gay, that all men with mustaches are gay.” The father’s response: “The father acknowledges talking with the girls about the stepfather’s brother being gay, not the stepfather.”

Good sports that they are, TMZ elected not to publish certain other “absolutely hideous” accusations from the divorce papers but felt obliged to note that they exist so that you might imagine how mentally damaged Prejean — and, by extension, all opponents of gay marriage — must be. Note the title of the post, too: “The Origin of Homophobia.” Click here to see how “homophobic” she is in reality. Tolerance indeed.

If the father was gay, it would be fair game. It’s not about outing a father, it’s about pointing her sermons in the right direction. For example, everyone needs to be reminded that Cheney’s daughter is gay. Because in a debate on whether or not homosexuality is a choice, it is indeed curious what would make a daughter of a prominent conservative living in Wyoming “choose” to be homosexual.

radiofreevillage on May 7, 2009 at 5:32 PM

What? No, that makes no sense.

For one, it’s not exactly news that children rebel. The fact that her father is conservative would actually help the argument that she’s doing it to make her father angry just like a daughter marrying her lousy biker boyfriend.

But it doesn’t prove anything. Neither does this.

I REALLY look forward to the day the gay community begs the Christian community to save them from the Islamic community.

As a gay man, I believe it is your responsibility – not just ours – to speak out and stop the slack-jawed moronic hate-filled heterophobes in the gay community. They are fueling a higher level of anger directed at a community that prefers only to simply live their lives as others do.

This ceased a while ago to be about what happened at a beauty pageant.

This is now all about what is being done to a woman – a human being – a citizen of this country…

…just because she voiced an opinion (which, it should be continually pointed out, is shared by a “mandate” of people in America).

It is also about how she is showing us to persevere under persecution.

The beauty pageant showed that she had outer beauty…

…but how she has held up and stood her ground under these heinous attacks shows that she ALSO has inner beauty.

As ya know, ditto on teh ghey.

And as I agree with everything you said there…Carrie decided to run with her newfound fame over all the hubbub surrounding one answer to one question in a beauty pageant.

She wanted fame…and boy, did she get it. And all the fair and unfair scrutiny that goes along with picking a side…any side…in a heated, emotional, and divisive topic like gay marriage vis a vis Christianity.

Had she simply defended her answer as a truthful, tactful response…which, at the time, it certainly was (she did nor said nothing wrong)…she’d be a victim of mud-slinging.

But she, prompted by some on the right, decided to run with this and go for fame. So in that sense, the sympathy level drops with me a bit.

Jet, she agreed to speak for groups that asked her to do so. I don’t see how that’s her asking for fame. She got fame by answering that question. Perez gave it to her by calling her a b*tch and a c*nt.

As I said in the headlines, I think a lot of you, but I think you’re biased here. Had the opposite happened, had she supported gay marriage and been criticized this badly and been turned into a martyr, I have a hard time believing you wouldn’t sympathize.

1) Let’s never lose track of the fact that it wasn’t the right that made her into a spokesperson, but the left.

2) To a certain point, I agree with your statement about not having sympathy for her. She has embraced being a lightning rod and as stepped up as a model of how to stand by one’s beliefs. Since the left was ALREADY unhinged and trying to shut her up, she absolutely knew that taking up a notch would make the left howl.

3) That said, none of this in any way, shape or form absolves the left of their horrible and heinous actions.

4) I’d love to live in a world where standing up for what you believe in wasn’t interpreted by some as “come attack me with all you have.” I’m perplexed and depressed that people think that being a spokesmen means that they must be attacked.

Nonfactor on May 7, 2009 at 6:13 PM

I wish I’d gone to law school. At some point it seems to me she has some kind of case for a lawsuit.

First, the contest was rigged and discriminatory in the sense that there was only one right answer to the gay marriage question. ‘Seems to me that most contests have rules about fairness. The Miss USA contest should have made it clear up front that people with certain religious views need not apply.

Second, and more black and white in my opinion, is that she should be able to sue for damages whoever it was from the Miss USA contest who made her medical information public. She has a right to medical privacy just like anyone else and there certainly wasn’t a public “need to know” with regards to her breast implants, no matter who paid for them. The medical privacy rules are pretty strict. I was reminded of this fact the other day while watching the press conference on the Cowboys’ training facility accident. The spokesman would no say what the nature of the injuries were or even much about their seriousness.

I wish some talented lawyer would volunteer her services to help Miss California. This is getting ridiculous.

cripes…I better put a pot of coffee on…

To answer what many seem to be saying, Carrie IS being attacked. Yes. Viciously? Yeah, it’s getting close. Unfairly? Yep…at times.

BUT…this need not have gone any further than whatever night this pageant was on. Granted, as I have repeatedly said, she answered a question truthfully and with tact. Although I would disagree with her on that answer, I couldn’t attack her at all for simply telling the truth. And she was not nasty in her answer at all. Kudos to her.

So, what ignited this fury…with Carrie at the center of it? Was it really the lefties? Sure, “stupid is as stupid does”. The left is never a surprise in these things. Thing is, the left is the fire, and the right fanned the flames.

Or maybe it’s the other way around…?

Anyway, this isn’t even a left vs. right thing to begin with! Take Prop. 8 for example in Cali. If you were to look at who voted for or against by party affiliation, it wasn’t lefty Dems vs. righty Repubs. The vast majority of African-Americans are usually anti-gay marriage. And the majority of them would vote Democrat.

How do you figure that? As you said, she answered her question without malice. Then, it was Perez who insulted her, pushing this story into something it didn’t need to be. Had he not done that, I doubt this would have lasted any longer than a day.

So then she and Perez were on TV the next day, and all she could do was still say nice things, even knowing what he’d called her.

She hasn’t done anything since, except speak to groups who were interested in hearing her.

I’m sorry. I just don’t see how any of that is fanning any flames. She’s been sweet the entire time. He’s been nasty, as has the media coverage of her. But none of that has changed how she’s responded.

I fully agree. And in now way do I condone violence against anyone for their beliefs. Carrie Prejean has shown a great deal of grace under pressure. I can just see the actions of some of the gay activists alienating the everyday person, a gay marriage supporter trying these tactics on someone they shouldn’t, and getting a fistful of knuckles for their lack of respect. Heck, I am pretty laid back, but also old fashioned in some ways. I hear some jerk talking to a woman like this, I will say something. I don’t think I am unique in that view, in that a lot of men don’t take kindly to a man talking to a woman the way some of these men are, gay or not.

People ‘on the right’ aren’t looking to find dirt on Perez Hilton to ‘destroy his reputation’. The reason this isn’t dying out is the same reason there were riots after the Prop 8 deal. The militant gay community DEMANDS YOUR AGREEMENT.

The gay community doesn’t just want to live free and do as they please. They want to enforce their ideas on everyone else with force.

This was a left leaning organization that brought up her parents’ divorce. It was a left leaning organization that released the ‘shocking and damaging’ photos (which weren’t but were intended to be and intent is the important thing here).

But you blame HER for fanning the flames? You blame ‘people on the right’ for fanning the flames?

I said from day one that her opinion wasn’t important just because I agreed with her. . . she’s just a beauty pageant contestant. It becomes important when she becomes a martyr.

Again, if you are looking for sympathy, this isn’t the way to do it. . . and I know you are looking for sympathy in the gay community because you want to pretend to be ‘victims’.

She just said that she believed in marriage between a man and a woman. She did not even say that homosexuals shouldn’t marry or have civil unions. She expressed her views as her own opinion, “I think that I believe…no offense to anyone.” She obviously is a gregarious young lady with no sexual hang-ups, and has a wish to find her man at some point to marry.

Everyone ELSE made this the big to-do, beginning with the asshat Perez Hilton. Then the crowned winner jumped on Perez’ bandwagon, rather than simply stating that her competitor had her right to her own opinion. I noticed the initial interview with Ms. Prejean’s grandmother printed that she lived in a “mobile home outside of San Diego” inference between the lines, white trash.

I’m now looking forward to the Gay Pride parade here in Chicago with my multi-purpose pitchfork.

Knucklehead on May 7, 2009 at 6:47 PM

decided to run with this and go for fame.

Pageants are for fame. EVERYONE involved in a pageant is out for recognition and fame. There is no equivocating that point.

Prejean was attacked immediately following the ceremony.

She had every right to defend herself and re-express her views. That wasn’t for “fame”–that was for her reputation, in order to retain her self respect and the respect of others. It is the OTHERS who fell so far below the mark, insisting that she change her mind to conform to THEIR way. What’s the point? The pageant is over. The winner won. So for the pageant judge and organization and the MSM to pile of the runner-up AFTERWARDS is too imbecilic.

She has a lovely life. THEY won’t let her enjoy her own life. There’s another lesson for NOT participating in pageants, young girls. It isn’t as if not winning is water under any bridge. You’ll be scarred for life because they are vicious “beautiful” people.

Nonfactor on May 7, 2009 at 6:25 PM

Lets see…Sheehan presuming to speak for her dead son, in spite of all evidence showing that he disagreed with her lack of respect for the military. Sheehan using derogatory language about those that support the military.

Prejean staying calm and being graceful to even those that attacked her.

As I said, flawed analogy and not even close. As much as I disagree with Sheehans point of view, and believe the woman is a total tool, she has the right to her views. I will disagree with those views, believing that she, unlike her adult son who reenlisted, and volunteered for the mission where he died, has no real idea what she is talking about. She also seems to believe in infantizing those who serve, implying they are children unable to make rational decisions.

Prejean is not having her ideas attacked, she is having her appearance, past history, and personal life attacked. You will notice that few are stating a rational argument about why they find her beliefs wrong. They are trying to discredit the messenger, and not the message.

These far left activists are vicious people. Like the schoolyard bully, they continue to become more vicious with each attack simply because they get away with, and fully expect to get away with, the escalation.

I expect there will eventually be backlash and pushback when decent people have finally had enough of their garbage. Like the bully they will only understand it when they are the target of vicious reprisal. Unfortunately they ask for it, and I fear they will finally reap what they have been so busy sowing.

I doubt that I will feel any small bit of sympathy for that payback which their viciousness may visit upon them. Actually, unfortunately I will probably take joy in it.

Why allow the left to control the dialogue and call anyone anything with impunity? We have too often seen those on the right take and take insults without answering them, and it has only encouraged more and more vile excrement to be flung. Sometimes you have to say enough is enough. Free speech is wonderful, but there is also a responsibility of the speaker to accept the consequences of what you say. If you act like a jerk, expect people to view you as one. The funny thing is that with all these personal attacks against Prejean, I cannot remember one person who has respectfully argued against her ideas. It has all been personal invective.

Tav on May 7, 2009 at 7:22 PM

Would you say the same thing about Cindy Sheehan?

Nonfactor on May 7, 2009 at 6:13 PM

Well, ignoring the fact that you’re trying to change the subject…

…let’s first do a little compare/contrast between the situations.

Miss Prejean was asked a question (which probably had no business being asked in a beauty contest) which she answered honestly. In return she more than likely lost the contest and was publicly attacked in the press. Even though she did not go into this looking for fame (?!), she took on the yoke of being a symbol and spokesperson and refused to back down. She has done so calmly and graciously. In return, the press and liberals have doubled down on their vicious attacks.

Ms. Sheehan, on the other hand, had a pleasant meeting with President Bush after the death of her son. After this meeting she even complimented him. However (and bizarrely) several months later she went to the press and complained that she did not get to meet the president. It’s important here to understand that SHE instigated this – she CREATED this. Egged on by a complicent press and supported by the left, she got more aggressive and belligerent and headed out to Texas to “stake out” the President near his ranch. As time went on she became increasingly rude and vulgar and continued to lie about her reasons (still lying about her first visit with President Bush). Another important point is that she deemed herself the official spokesperson for her dead son, but all of the people who REALLY knew him vouched that he was proud of his service and proud to be serving in Iraq. Ms. Sheehan, instead of admitting this, made her son out to be some kind of manipulated, brainwashed victim of President Bush. It should also be noted that despite her apparent grief over the loss of her son and despite being funded generously (she was able to make several trips abroad to such noted pillars of morals and ethics as Hugo Chavez) she took two years to place a tombstone on her son’s grave. In return for her coarse and vulgar opinions (and lies), she became a lightening rod for the right.

To sum up:

Miss Prejean didn’t seek to be a spokesperson; Ms. Sheehan did.

Miss Prejean has been honest and gracious; Ms. Sheehan based her actions upon a lie and a gross misrepresentation of her son’s beliefs and was often vulgar and belligerent.

Miss Prejean has been publicly and viciously attacked by the press; Ms. Sheehan was publicly and viciously protected by the press.

So, while Ms. Sheehan has a right to her opinion and while some of the attacks from the right were personal and nasty…

…I simply can’t favorably compare Ms. Sheehan to Miss Prejean.

Religious_Zealot on May 7, 2009 at 7:23 PM

One more thing about comparing/contrasting Miss Prejean and Ms. Sheehan…

After the initial flare up, Miss Prejean has been attacked for:
- having a boob job
- posing for a “semi-nude” picture (like just about every model does)
- the ugly, nasty divorce her parents went through.

Ms. Sheehan was attacked for:
- lying about her initial meeting with the President
- misrepresenting and disrespecting the views and beliefs of her son
- not putting a tombstone on her son’s grave and then lying about the reasons (she blamed the funeral home who proved that she was lying about that)
- for using the death of her son as a means to further her own fame and fortune
- for claiming Absolute Moral Authority, despite her son’s deep disagreements with his mother about her views on the military and the war
