Campaign to destroy Miss California somehow turns even nastier

posted at 5:00 pm on May 7, 2009 by Allahpundit

Time for ye olde airing of the family dirty laundry in the guise of armchair psychoanalysis. I’m surprised it took this long. Usually the very first bit of mud to be thrown at a conservative critical of gays is the charge that they’re gay themselves and are channeling their denial into “hate.” That line of attack got postponed in this case thanks to the eagerness of pageant sources to whisper about her implants and the ready supply of topless photos, but now at last it’s time. With a twist: It’s not Prejean herself who’s being called a closet case but dad. Classy.

Carrie’s parents filed for divorce in 1988 and the divorce and custody fights went on for more than a decade — it was a divorce filled with homosexual allegations hurled by both sides.

In one of the docs, Carrie’s dad describes a confrontation he had with her mom in 1996, in which he recounts an argument in a restaurant parking lot, where “Ms. Prejean accused me, in front of our daughter, of homosexuality.”…

Carrie’s mom says the “gay” allegations went both ways. In court papers dated May 16, 2000, a report from the court-appointed counselor says “The mother also alleges the father told the girls their stepfather was gay, that all men with mustaches are gay.” The father’s response: “The father acknowledges talking with the girls about the stepfather’s brother being gay, not the stepfather.”

Good sports that they are, TMZ elected not to publish certain other “absolutely hideous” accusations from the divorce papers but felt obliged to note that they exist so that you might imagine how mentally damaged Prejean — and, by extension, all opponents of gay marriage — must be. Note the title of the post, too: “The Origin of Homophobia.” Click here to see how “homophobic” she is in reality. Tolerance indeed.

How ready is the supply? Inquiring minds want to know.

BadgerHawk on May 7, 2009 at 5:02 PM

As I stated in Headlines…

I, too, am a child of divorce and I submit that in the shadow of a nasty divorce like that, Carrie would probably be marriage-phobic not homophobic.

The conclusion the writer is trying to make is cwap.

TMZ elected not to publish certain other “absolutely hideous” accusations from the divorce papers but felt obliged to note that they exist so that you might imagine how mentally damaged Prejean — and, by extension, all opponents of gay marriage — must be.

Same trick NBC used by not showing the ‘topless’ photo. Just say it’s a topless photo and leave the mind to wander…

There are over 275 comments to the same post in Headlines. I’d say Carrie is ahead 270 to 5. The more the gays bash her, the less sympathy their cause has and the more we support her. Carrie, you go girl!

amerpundit on May 7, 2009 at 5:18 PM

Nuts should not be allowd to be in charge of anything.

MikeA on May 7, 2009 at 5:22 PM

So two angry parents threw mud at each other in a divorce.

sonofdy on May 7, 2009 at 5:22 PM

You realize by now it doesn’t matter that most people agree with Prejean, or that people think this is a terrible way to treat someone for answering a question honestly, and respectfully.

Nobody will want to risk this kind of roasting in the public square. Fear and threats will win, even if everyone condemns it, unless there are actual consequences. Words and popular opinion are ineffective against people so dedicated that they would attack someone like Pregean.

But then I saw this coming with gay treatment of the Boy Scouts.

If we want the gays to stop treating people like this we can’t continue making excuses for their behavior, or reasonable compromises with them.

It reminds me of my sister when we were growing up. I learned I could never start of offering her a compromise, because if I did she would always demand more. It didn’t matter if she was getting everything she wanted, she had to have more because she viewed me as an adversary and she wanted the “win” of forcing me to make concessions more than she wanted any specific concession.

I used to support Civil Unions, but now my attitude is that as long as gays refuse to disagree agreeably, I’m not gonna support squat for them.

If the father was gay, it would be fair game. It’s not about outing a father, it’s about pointing her sermons in the right direction. For example, everyone needs to be reminded that Cheney’s daughter is gay. Because in a debate on whether or not homosexuality is a choice, it is indeed curious what would make a daughter of a prominent conservative living in Wyoming “choose” to be homosexual.

That being said, what’s been uncovered about this girl’s parents is nothing more than divorce fights. Alright, so their divorce (unlike all others /s) didn’t go smoothly. Gotcha.

I don’t buy this bullshit “Oh, you’re so intolerant of our perfectly acceptable view that gays are perverts”. There’s no moral equivalence. However, ridiculing homophobes should be on point, not random attacks on family members.

She didn’t even plan to comment on gay marriage, until Perez Hilton asked her about it, in a unique situation where “no comment” is not an acceptable answer.

What hypocrisy are you accusing her of? If you’re saying she’s a hypocrite for being Christian, you clearly misunderstand the religion. Which states specifically, repeatedly, and as a central tenet that “all have sinned and fallen short”. As far as I know, the term “all” includes Miss California.

Good question. I don’t know. I hope there are.

And how about at Hot Air? Are there any Hot Air posters who support gay marriage who can be counted on to denounce these attacks on Carrie Prejean?

The MSM is nothing but a smear machine. Your TV…kill it and be free!

ronsfi on May 7, 2009 at 5:47 PM

I didn’t know that all men with moustaches were gay.

bloggless on May 7, 2009 at 5:47 PM

I am gay. This subject just needs to stop. Hilton is a nasty jerk with a foul mouth. I could not care less if both of her parents were gay or that her mom and dad had a messy divorce. The young woman is entitled to her opinion.

SC.Charlie on May 7, 2009 at 5:44 PM

Thank you for speaking out! I fear you will be attacked by some folks here, who have been annoyed to the point that they’re more willing to verbally assault gays than they might normally.

hawksruleva on May 7, 2009 at 5:48 PM

I, too, am a child of divorce and I submit that in the shadow of a nasty divorce like that, Carrie would probably be marriage-phobic not homophobic.

ladyingray on May 7, 2009 at 5:02 PM

Maybe that’s why she really opposes gay marriage — she wants to spare gays the kind of nasty divorce ordeal she witnessed her parents experiencing.

But seriously, it’s a sad day in this country when a person can’t politely express an opinion on gay marriage without being subjected to this type of nasty personal attack. Gay marriage proponents need to stop this kind of nonsense, because it’s doing enormous harm to the public’s perception of their cause.

Trolls are ALWAYS compassionate to a fault.

God bless you for caring!

Right. Theyre the “tolerant” ones. & can be identified publicly by “Mean People Suck” bmpr stickers.

kooziegirl on May 7, 2009 at 5:49 PM

I REALLY look forward to the day the gay community begs the Christian community to save them from the Islamic community.

THAT will be FUN!

How you say? Live by the gun, die by the bullets?

ThackerAgency on May 7, 2009 at 5:49 PM

Why is it that anybody that doesn’t agree with gay marriage is all of a sudden a homophobe?

youngO on May 7, 2009 at 5:35 PM

Because anyone who disagrees with a liberal is either stupid, crazy, or evil.

And if you ask why, they will explain as follows: Shut up!

So anyone who disagrees with you is a hypocrite.
