2002 DNI report: Shameless liar Pelosi was briefed on Zubaydah’s waterboarding

Remember, Madam Speaker’s official story is that she was briefed merely on the White House’s belief that waterboarding was legal, not that they ever planned to actually, you know, use it. I’m starting to lose count of how much evidence there is to the contrary at this point: First was this 2007 WaPo report on Pelosi being given a virtual tour of a CIA “black site” at which waterboarding would be used, then came Porter Goss’s op-ed last week reminding her that he got the same briefings she got and he knew exactly what was going on, and now here’s ABC today with a contemporaneous report from the office of the Director of National Intelligence confirming that, oh yes, she knew.
The report details a Sept. 4, 2002 meeting between intelligence officials and Pelosi, then-House intelligence committee chairman Porter Goss, and two aides. At the time, Pelosi was the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee.
The meeting is described as a “Briefing on EITs including use of EITs on Abu Zubaydah, background on authorities, and a description of particular EITs that had been employed.”
EITs stand for “enhanced interrogation techniques,” a classification of special interrogation tactics that includes waterboarding…
Brendan Daly, a Pelosi spokesman, said Pelosi’s recollection of the meeting is different than the way it is described in the report from the DNI’s office.
“The briefers described these techniques, said they were legal, but said that waterboarding had not yet been used,” Daly said.
Daly pointed out that the report backs up Pelosi’s contention that she was briefed only once on “enhanced interrogation techniques.”
Follow the link and note ABC’s update about how many other Democrats knew what was up. I’m starting to think that “rebranding” really might be the answer for the GOP. Since all it takes to escape the left’s wrath on issues like torture or extending the war in Afghanistan or quadrupling the size of a deficit they claimed to care about under Bush is calling yourself a Democrat, why not just call ourselves Democrats from now on? We get to keep all the same policies we have now and avail ourselves of the Absolute Moral Authority that comes with claiming the mantle of enlightenment. Show of hands: How many newly minted Blue Dogs here want to see Gitmo stay open?

Given my age, condition and circumstances, I am of no use physically, financially to such an effort. And given my faith, I will always be pulling for the ethical, moral, gentlemanly approach. However, I know that War is Hell, and there are times that war is essential. So, if it does come to that, I will contribute what I can.

Nancy’s Steps To Get Out of a Lie
Step One: Lie about it
Step Two: When dissenting voices are raised, shout them down.
Step Three: When the evidence comes out, bury the story.
Step Four: Claim it’s not that important.
Step Five: Call up MSNBC and beg.

Pelosi is a lying, immature child in an old lady’s body! How in the hell did she ever get to where she is today? She has tried to destroy the lives of many American public employees by her lying. The question now is what to do about her! She must step down as Speaker AND resign! Period!!

Wonder how she’ll handle this if pressed by the media. ‘My recollection is different’ Yeah–how since you were hearing the same things that others present are nearly quoting. She is not fit to even be in the House, let alone in charge. I call for her removal from her position as quickly as possible.

I think the moral of this story is that you flippin’ better not mess with the CIA! I am sure they know things about every Congress person in Washington DC and they are flexing their muscles a bit after Obama and Pelosi threw them under the bus.

I think we can fairly draw at least one conclusion from this episode. The case of Nancy Pelosi vividly illustrates the key to the “torture” controversy. It is a partisan charade. And it is a charade of a particularly disgusting kind. The Democrats’ torture charade is a case of low politics masquerading as high principle. (powerline)

Nothing makes me happier than for this woman to be exposed for the fraud she is. She’ll deny it, probably, till the day she dies, but at least the word is getting out that this woman is a self-serving, despicable liar.

It’s amazing that even when Pelosi is caught red handed as a liar, the WaPo still manages to spin it as being Bush’s fault.

Reid and Peloser are human disgraces to the halls of Congress. They are the epitome of evil and the most corrupt leadership in the history of our country. With their corruption and Obam putting liberal incompetents at every level of government, the survival of our nation, as we have known it, will cease to exist.
volsense on May 8, 2009 at 9:06 AM
I appreciate your situation and admire your position. DO stay true to yourself! Very few people reach your mature perspective in this balancing act called life. God bless you.
We shall EXPOSE the corruption. WE remember that when the GOP last enjoyed the majority vote, the RNC campaigned against the party of corruption–DNC. So naturally, in order to twist the knife, the DNC ran on that very same campaign vs. the RNC–problem being that the RNC was not “corrupt” illegal fashion EXCEPT when GWB pushed through the unconstitutional top tier bureaucracy to further inhibit constitutional government via Homeland Security. Turn around being fair play, the GOP must stay on target: Constitutional Platform.
So far as campaigns go, let the social conservatives and Evangelicals preach national repentance of Socialism and witness how well that applies to strong Constitutional Governance as distinct from Socialism. Maintain personal integrity for the party IDEAL that we strive (party members, party leaders, elected officials) to support, not to destroy, in order to protect the urtext of our Constitution. THAT should always take precedence to any subsequent legislation like the damned Homeland Security fascism that we do not need, nor do we want. Retract it for its failures and gross over-reach in federal authority. Campaign on the Constitution. No one can claim moral authority beyond the Constitution without proving themselves extremists. Holding to what we are born with is not radical. Selling it for magic beans is radically stupid.
Expose the Corruption.
Campaign against Corrupt Government Abuse of Powers.
Given intelligence and the internet, we can research. Of course, our searches are absolutely monitored in order to ruin us. But we CAN research.

GW Bush’s bail-outs were also corrupt.
Recognizing the grotesque error:
the GOP rescinds any bail-out support.
The “new” GOP is the basic, down to earth Constitutional Republic Government GOP that made Equal Rights happen.
The fuddyduddy ‘Republican’ who’d sell out the Constitution is NOT GOP.

hawksruleva on May 8, 2009 at 9:13 AM
Good assumption. Your point being that knowing what we’re up against is not a deterrent to our response to duty.
WE must participate not only in the distribution of accurate research to expose the corrupt socialism usurping our Constitution. WE are unafraid of our own members who have sold out to the progressive socialism. WE call them out regularly. Progressives are responding with their mantra that has now bloated beyond intolerance for good tradition to the assassination of the Conservative. It is the progressives who have extricated themselves from the Constitutional GOP Platform. They may not take the Conservative name with them to de-legitimize the RNC as we Republican Conservatives are mounting the Constitutional Alliance to maintain Rule of Law, Liberty, Justice, and Equality before the law.

Pelosi is a psychopath.
She is quite a scary individual, considering the position she holds.

corruption…abuse of power..subverting the constitution…theft of national treasure…lying and double speak reminiscent of Orwell…grave incompetence…encouraging an illegal invasion from a third world country even after overwhelming public outcry…and many, many other crimes….perpetrated by BOTH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS.
Yea, I know the Republicans are the lesser of two evils but I do not understand why more independents, libertarians, and conservatives do not flock to the Constitution Party. There are things we do not like about the CP but darn it, this IS conservatism. Maybe too pure of a blend for many, but it’s better than what we have now.
We are absolutely going in the direction our forefathers warned us about and NOTHING is being done to fight it. The Republicans have rolled over in awe in the face of hard core marxist. The ball in is in our court now.

This is what we have as 3rd in line for POTUS. Makes all americans “proud”. Just hope none of these people ever have to make a hard decision when there isn’t time to take a poll first. Or time to come up with their spin to a fall back position.
hillbilly on May 8, 2009 at 1:31 PM
You are absolutely right…if you have your head up your *ss.
Who would ever think that one of the highest ranking members in the Senate, sat for 7 years on committees, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee. Sitting through 7 years of meetings, and meeting and discussing a wide range of issues, and she had no idea what EIT meant.
Here is a woman who knows what every one of her colleagues have voted for…she has lead her party on attacks of the most minute details of President Bush’s decisions. But she never knew, or found out what EIT meant, she never understood what was being discussed in these meetings, never thought to ask, never thought to investigate, never had an inkling of what techniques we use, although she had toured most every military base in the U.S., has talked to military advisers for decades, and listened to them for 7 years as the highest ranking member of the committee.
She is either a complete imbecile, or a complete liar.
You don’t sit on these meetings, where it is so secret that minutes are not taken, for seven years and not learn every single thing going on. This is where you listen to find out exactly how safe we are, what we are doing to keep us safe, and where you have contact with the people who have all the answers…and you are the third most powerful person in the U.S., third in line to take over the presidency…you are privately briefed because of your position, you have your own “codes”, in a moment of crises you may be the one leading the country…and you don’t know what is being discussed at the highest lever meetings, the most important committee in the U.S.
You are living in a dream world…
right2bright on May 8, 2009 at 1:39 PM
Apparently for democrats is preferable to agrue that you were willfully ignorant, specifically making an effort not to know anything about proceedures your committee is responsible for overseeing than to admit that you knew about it and approved.
So at best, Pelosi is an ostrich with her head in the sand every time a tough topic is in from of her committee, and at worst she’s a bald face liar willing to do anything to dodge responsibility for her own actions. Either way you look like fools trying to defend it.
But hey, the guy who votes “present” so often is your big hero in the White House, so I guess we shouldn’t expect you to have expectations that your Congressmen actually get involved in making the hard decisions.

The woman has been caught lying, red handed, no way around it. And from what I hear there is more evidence that she knew exactly what was going on from the git go.
Trying to say otherwise is just silly. It really is.

Max1, citing wikipedia: “but but but… waterboarding is torture … we even prosecuted the Japanese for it…”
Let’s get down to it, shall we? I have no problem with torturing al Qaeda members to thwart their nasty schemes, and the majority of Americans are with me on this.
The POTUS has a job to do, and national security is at the top of the list. Obama, I think, would actually welcome another attack, because he probably remembers how nice it was when we were regarded as pathetic victims after 9/11. The world loved us because they felt so sorry for us.
Yeah, I know the guy is a twisted s.o.b. There will be no second term. Even the liberal history book writers are going to have a tough time with their hagiography of the first black president of the US.
Well, this is what you get with affirmative action – an inexperienced, underqualified dolt.
disa on May 9, 2009 at 2:17 AM
Politicians usually go the way the wind is blowing. She evidently supported waterboarding when it was OK to do so, but, since the tides have changed she has to be like a chameleon and change her political camouflage. If we ever get hit with WMD she will probably then be on the torture and revenge bandwagon, and, on the circle goes….
