Bristol Palin: Abstinence is the answer

posted at 6:05 pm on May 6, 2009 by Allahpundit

An about-face from her comments to Greta in February declaring that abstinence, while preferable, simply isn’t “realistic.” Surprisingly, neither Lauer nor Chris Cuomo at ABC pressed her on the change of heart; doubtless the left will accuse her of doing mom’s bidding but she seems plenty sincere in describing how little sleep she’s getting these days taking care of the little guy. Could be that the full strain of motherhood has since sharpened her appreciation of teen celibacy.

The ABC interview is slightly more newsworthy — she tells Cuomo she never for an instant considered abortion — but this one’s more engaging and features three generations of Palins. In both clips she couldn’t be sweeter, and she does as good a job as one might with the thorny question of whether, notwithstanding her love for Tripp, she’d do things differently if she had it to do over again. If you’re wondering why there’s no CBS clip, it’s because she skipped them this morning — possibly, I wonder, because it’s the network of Palin bete noire Katie Couric. Here’s how they paid her back.

The cries of “hypocrite” strike me as dishonest. If Bristol Palin was recommending every teenager use birth control (which she wasn’t doing at the time either) instead of abstinence, none of these critics would call her a hypocrite. They have no problems with drug/alcohol/gambling addicts warn others (teens and adults) about the dangers of such behavior… they’ve no problems with HIV+ persons preaching about safe(r) sex; the hand wringing is over the message of abstinence, not about hypocrisy.

Note to Palin Gushers, this is why she isn’t getting the nomination.

Note to ignorant:

It is how they act when faced with a situation that validates their claims.

A teenage daughter who makes a mistake, refuses to kill her baby and accepts her responsibility. The parents of that teenage girl, vow to support her and the baby in any way they can. Love abounds between parents and daughter, mother and baby.

The Palins are a class act, and demonstrate Christ’s example. Sarah is a conservative, has made some minor slips, but overall is growing to be a truly classy Governor that I would support for President.

It’s also why they keep pushing that she’s a “strong advocate” of “abstinence only.” Palin did fill out a form a few years ago stating her opposition to “explicit sex education,” and does support abstinence programs. From what I’ve seen, she’s also been open to encouraging contraceptive use as well. Her critics want sex ed to push contraceptives, without including abstinence programs as part of the package.

C’mon, that was a lame response, and you know it. It was obvious what you meant, and no amount of histrionics will change that.

Bristol is a winner! She’s bright, strong, beautiful and classy. She didn’t even rip on Levi when Matt or Chris gave her the bait. She will make a great Teen Ambassador.

Levi is a loser! His interview on CBS was a PR disaster. He either had a major hissy fit that morning or was under some influence because he mumbled through it without making much sense. He got defensive when asked, “How’s that job search going?”

I pray for you.

Do you pray directly to Satan or do you go through Sarah?????????

The Wall on May 7, 2009 at 1:33 AM

I pray to God for your soul. I must, as you are one of the lost. I pray for your family also who must no doubt struggle with patience.

You have questioned by faith, which I would find insulting to someone with control of their upper facilties. However I can’t be angry with someone with the mental abilities of an 10 year old. Please forgive me for being so hard on you in the past. I did not know I was bantering back & forth with someone with special needs.
