You don’t say: Chrysler lenders ask judge for anonymity to avoid “threats”
posted at 7:29 pm on May 5, 2009 by Allahpundit
No, not the threats from the White House about siccing the White House press corps on them; there’s nothing anyone can do about those for the moment. They mean the threats they’ve been getting from America’s Obama cultists ever since The One waved his rhetorical pitchfork at them. The nutroots need an enemy, even in their moment of total victory, and right now the hedge funds fit the bill.
Represented by lawyer Gerard Uzzi of the firm White & Case, the group said its members may be subjected to threats and intimidation in part because of comments made by President Barack Obama, who chastised the opponents of an attempted deal to keep Chrysler out of bankruptcy.
“Never before has the president of the United States announced a chapter 11 filing in a national address,” the petition said.
“The president publicly chastised these secured creditors for having the temerity to enforce their constitutional rights in this court of law, branding them as ‘speculators,’ making clear that ‘I don’t stand with them.’”…
He asked the judge to keep the names under seal and argued that “denial of this relief will force several of these lenders to surrender their legal rights and agree to the government’s illegal plan.”
He added, “Those lenders that continue to seek to enforce their legal rights will be subjected to threats to their reputations and businesses, public attack, and threats to their safety publicly.”
As of late this afternoon, the motion’s been denied. And why not? Given the sort of hardball Obama’s playing, he would have just leaked the names to the press anyway. Remember, according to him, the only thing standing between big business and the angry mob is the sweet disposition of Hopenchange.
With news breaking right now that the AIG bonus pool was even bigger than thought, I wonder what sort of fish-on-the-doorstep he has planned for them to convince them to give back the money. Exit quotation from your must-read of the day: “I run an approximately twenty billion dollar money management firm that offers hedge funds as well as public mutual funds and unhedged traditional investments. My company is not involved in the Chrysler situation, but I am still aghast at the President’s comments (of course these are my own views not those of my company). Furthermore, for some reason I was not born with the common sense to keep it to myself, though my title should more accurately be called ‘Not Afraid Enough’ as I am indeed fearful writing this… It’s really a bad idea to speak out. Angering the President is a mistake and, my views will annoy half my clients. I hope my clients will understand that I’m entitled to my voice and to speak it loudly, just as they are in this great country.”

Like I said, I was raised there. I’m a life-long Redskins fan- even during the lean years. And….I’ll finally be able to see some games on Sunday without it being a fluke! That is definitely a plus.
I can’t imagine what you had to deal with making your first move at 42. That long in one location you know as a second senser where all the “stuff” (like retailers, the post office, etc.) is and it must have been somewhat disorienting to move. I’m 44 and have moved every few years since I graduated from college at 21. At this stage in my life I literally have to think about where the “stuff” is in my current location as opposed where the same “stuff” was located where I lived before. For clarification, I’m not pre-Alzheimers but more than once I’ve thought I’ll just run by the Home Depot since it is next to the Target only to realize that (in my current location) that isn’t a true statement- it applied to the last place I lived.

Moving to DC, well, get used to more traffic and a lot higher cost of living. I live in Reston, and my family and roots are in Maryland. But my wife wants to return to Michigan. Specifically, western Michigan, where her friends are.
If you get here by summer we may meet at a protest gathering. Good luck with your move.

You know what, now that I think about it I think you found a link for me to keep up with a game during the season. I am so old that I think Sonny J. is the best quarterback every.
Not only had I never moved before but when I got married we bought a home in my childhood neighborhood. The oldest child didn’t move with the rest of the family. I was a zombie for months. You do what you have to do.

Cindy Munford, all best of luck to you. Not an accountant, are you? I may need one if my company survives.
It appears to me that if Bama tries for an AWB or significant civilian disarmament laws there will be massive civil disobedience, to rival Prohibition, but the traffic will be in arms and ammo, and with more people rejecting the law, living outside it, our society will suffer all the more. If you think we are coarser for the impact of leftists who cannot talk for more than five seconds with dropping an F-bomb, I think we ain’t seen nothing yet.
It is abundantly clear that Bama thinks he can seize property and bend law egregiously (let’s pass over the moral issues, in the interests of time) to remake the country to something he and Michelle would be proud of, and that would secure his reelection by gross pandering to pressure groups such as unions and ACORN.
He may have “jumped a bridge too far”, but it remains to be seen, if the right people stand up, say “nyet, and eff you and your horse”
Bama, like any leftist, is a coward unless he has a mob behind him. It make take some doing to tame the mob, but these people too are cowards, especially if you catch them one on one, use their tactics against them.
Given that your life they would happily forfeit, at some point you have to ask what you will do about people completely willing to throw you under the bus. It doesn’t mean you seek a violent resolution…it may be enough to fight legally or politically. I surely hope so.
The alternative would be very ugly, no matter who wins. Like Bosnia, not long enough ago. A fine example for the world.
It is time to draw the line, however. Come across if you must, but come careful. You will be on thin ice, and you don’t want to know what is underneath.

When I started the job search process I concentrated on Western Michgan and the non-Detroit parts of the state. Most companies don’t even bother acknowledging you applied for a job. At best you get a don’t call us, we’ll call you if we are interested response. I extended the job search to other places when it became clear that employment opportunities were bleak to non-existent.
What I’ve discovered is that Michigan is suffering from a cloud of dismal failure that doesn’t hold true elsewhere. Leave the pennisula and you find an optimism you don’t see with a government dour because their entrenched power with the UAW and the teacher’s union is failing without anything to fall back on. Jennifer Granholm should be deported for the way she’s mismanaged Michigan’s affairs by concentrating on pleasing the UAW instead of finding new economic opportunities.
Michigan is a great state with great people but it has been destroyed by the Democrats. I hope to return at some point but it isn’t any time soon.

I’ve got Sonny’s autograph along with Chris Hamburger’s. They happened to be at the Springfield Mall one Saturday when my parents went shopping.
Best of luck in whatever you do at this point.

No I am data entry (trained monkey) but thanks for the offer. It’s definitely time to make some noise about this government take over. I can’t imagine that Wall Street is going to stay silent for much longer, despite the fact that they helped put him in there.

I have an autographed picture also, he asked the folks around him if anyone was part of the “six pack for lunch bunch”. Very funny.

Trying to figure out how these “Speculators” should be thrown under the bus but those speculating in the real estate market are worthy of a bailout?

Last line is sort of like “I’m ready for my fatwa.”
Great article. Somebody has to bring this issue to the SCOTUS before it’s too liberal.

Here is the real money quote:
Obama has been abusing his power since day one. Oh wait, with ACORN before day one.

Under the new rules, you would have to be a fool to invest in any company that is unionized.

As a result, the govt will become the lender not just of last resort, but the lender of first resort.
Giving the govt even greater control over the economy.

Somebody suggested that all businessmen, when forced to do layoffs, should scout the parking lot for any car with Obama stickers on the bumper.
The owners of those cars should be laid off first.
MarkTheGreat on May 6, 2009 at 8:41 AM
The problem is that many, perhaps even most of Obama’s supporters are also at their core, bullies and thugs.
MarkTheGreat on May 6, 2009 at 8:58 AM
Great name for their lawyer. Maybe he should issue a few to his clients.
Big John on May 6, 2009 at 10:34 AM
This has to be thee most disgusting President, and administration in our history. Not to mention the judicial system.
Obama knows their names. There is no reason for us to know, at this time. If it means protecting these people, and their families, then that should be done. The fact that the judge denied this motion, speakes volumes.

Threatening and intimidating portly terrorists…bad, not cool.
Threatening and intimidating American investors and corporate leaders…good, really cool.
Those wacky Democrats…
