Video: Campaign to destroy Miss California escalates; Update: NOM stands by Prejean

If you haven’t seen the “scandalous” new photo yet, feast your eyes. It’s been many moons since I’ve looked at the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue but I remember shots like that being in there even when I was a kid. (Or even sometimes on the cover.) Which is to say, it’s very late in the day culturally to be feigning shock at material like this — and yet NBC, the network that aired photos and video of the Virginia Tech killer glorifying himself, has decided that the pic’s simply too hot for the Peacock to handle. A cynic might wonder if they want viewers to imagine that it’s worse than it is. Good thing I’m not a cynic.
There’s an open question of when the photo was taken — she says it was several years ago, others say it’s more recent — which may be relevant to whether she was a Christian or a pageant contender at the time but doesn’t much matter to her critics. Their goal, using the pretext of “hypocrisy,” is simply to try to make her radioactive within her own political and religious communities by painting her as some sort of fallen woman. It didn’t work with Palin vis-a-vis Bristol’s pregnancy and it won’t work here, but presumably they’re drawing some gratification from the mere thought that they might be causing her discomfort. Pure vindictiveness, but then what did you expect?

Update: Maggie Gallagher from the National Organization of Marriage issues this statement. I told you it wouldn’t work.
Because Carrie honestly said what she believed in answer to a question–marriage is the union of a man and a woman– she is now the subject of ongoing character assassination. The level of hatred directed at her is astonishing. Even more astonishing is her personal courage and strength of character in the midst of these attacks. Of course Carrie is not perfect. On a personal note, as a former unwed mother, I want to say to Americans: you don’t have to be a perfect person to have the right to stand up for marriage. Nothing gay marriage advocates can do can change the fact—we all saw it on national TV—that Carrie is a young woman who surrendered all the glitter Hollywood has to offer, because she would not become the kind of person afraid to say the truth.
Through Carrie, we are also learning, the lengths some people will go to hurt and harass those who speak up for marriage.

I relate, eugene, but I have to share my own story.
When my boy got to that age, it was really an open field. Here’s what I said: “No means no. Don’t mistake that. She means it just as when you mean it to me.”
Because he had to push back against me as a kid, he hear me.
So I just think we have to really teach our sons that respect is important.
Today, it’s funny. He shares way more than I would ever share about this with my parents.
He embarasses me, to be honest. But I can tell he’s relaxed and just doesn’t think twice. So I get to hear it all.
That silly lesson I taught him?
He still respects that.

I have now heard TWO useful liberal idiots on television proclaim,
“It is just like the Vanessa Williams thing.”
Uh, no, Vanessa Williams was photographed in soft-porn pictures with another woman.
maryo on May 5, 2009 at 10:43 PM
While i dont entirely disagree with you, none of us know this girl. She could be a real @sshole and just play a sweet girl on TV ya know? I havent jumped to any conclusion given the PG-13 picture, but i dont know her enough to say shes a good person. She could be a jerk.
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 10:43 PM
There are racier pics at Amercrombie’s in the mall, Phil.
Go back and read this entire thread and you will see how “serious” the posters are about Carrie.
Carrie is loved.
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 10:44 PM
I heard it was AWESOME. I got jealous when I saw people all the way out from my place on LI there. got me real jealous. I’m so going next time, perhaps we can go grab a beer
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 10:44 PM
I disagree, ladyingray.
I think it’s all very personal.
Every man who carelessly applaudes fake boobs that don’t even fit the woman’s frame sets his daughter or his wife up to want to please him…..and get those.
Yes, it’s quite personal.
AnninCA on May 5, 2009 at 10:45 PM
Well it’ll be good to have you next time, but dude its NYC you don’t need a tea party as an excuse to head down there…come thru! i work in midtown i school in gramercy im there every damn day. come through anytime. that goes for anyone on HotAir.
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 10:46 PM
graylady’s gonna find some excuse to come to nyc now
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 10:47 PM
As the mother of a son serving his country in the USAF, I disagree.
He is more than that. I’ve raised him to love and respect what is truly important.
Guess what? I want those…
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 10:48 PM
Hey! I have friends there…they live in Chelsea…I need to visit them….
…um…is the tea party scheduled for July 4th? ;-)
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 10:50 PM
The Tea Party’s scheduled for whenever you’d like!
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 10:51 PM
I have no clue as to what you just posted, lady, or why you think this is opposite of what I said.
Nevertheless, back to the topic……
It’s personal.
This young woman was into the whole scene of beauty contests and competition, etc. She’s no paragon of inner beauty. Her life is about outward looks.
However, I still think she answered a simple question honestly.
She doesn’t deserve to become the target of the press.
AnninCA on May 5, 2009 at 10:53 PM
I have friends who live on 18th…
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 10:53 PM
LOL
lots of bars around
ernesto can show us the good spots!
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 10:53 PM
Awesome, get down here! We really need to get some meetups goin on HotAir
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 10:55 PM
I was thinking that during CPAC. I couldn’t help but think who was who at the hotel
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 10:56 PM
Kewl! Ernesto…Foster’s for blant (maybe we can get 4 in him)…plenty of my friend Jack for me!
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 10:56 PM
We can push 4. Five might have me stumbling
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 10:57 PM
Be careful, getalife the indie might be there with her Obama blow-up doll.
Upstater85 on May 5, 2009 at 11:02 PM
Anything so long as its not light beer.
Yeah AP needs to be more proactive about this, like Ace is. Set it up Allah! Though what we really need to do is convince strangelet to come outta hiding and face us. she could use some cheering up.
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 11:02 PM
Ah…its NYC…we’ll call a cab, no worries about driving!
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:03 PM
I’m beginning to think Getalife was the girl who vomited all over my bathroom.
Oh its not that I worry about, just the TN folk.
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 11:04 PM
The *cough* indie *cough* might be there….I’d be willing to get in her space….
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:05 PM
We do tend to learn to drink early…you’re wise beyond your years…
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:07 PM
id want as many of them there as possible. if only for target practice. but in reality it’d be interesting to see if they had any legitimate political ideas behind all the antagonistic online trolling.
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 11:07 PM
Hahaha
eeee
Don’t know if I’d even want to touch her… might get some STD – she was a degenerate after all…
Upstater85 on May 5, 2009 at 11:08 PM
This is true. I just don’t want to wake up somewhere strange!
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 11:08 PM
Yeah, I’ve wondered. Trolls only seem to make what they find to be snarky comments. But I wonder if they actually think or if they just listen to the soundbites.
Upstater85 on May 5, 2009 at 11:09 PM
If you wake up indoors, all is good.
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:11 PM
Heh. My wife hates it when I hit on Alaskan dollies online. This is the second time…
Jaibones on May 5, 2009 at 11:12 PM
LOL
quite broad spectrum
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 11:13 PM
Hey, blueman – how did that UP picture thing work out for you?
Jaibones on May 5, 2009 at 11:13 PM
i dont know what you’re talking about. waking up in a strange place is the single most wonderful thing about new york city.
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 11:13 PM
reeal well!
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 11:13 PM
Um…no touching…I have my own personal space…but yeah, I’d get in her face and take her down to the ground with my wit and shake the dirt from my sandles in her face…
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:14 PM
Funniest thread ever.
Jaibones on May 5, 2009 at 11:14 PM
I would like to go on record that I believe marriage is only normal when there is a female human (by birth) and a male human (by birth) who take some sort of a commitment oath that is legally recognized in that jurisdiction where the ceremony takes place.
I also state for all those who may read this and disagree with me: you are not allowed on my property, nor can you speak to me. You will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for trespassing and assault should you defy this warning. By Home Secretary for my home and land.
jarhead0311 on May 5, 2009 at 11:15 PM
I might pay to see that.
Upstater85 on May 5, 2009 at 11:15 PM
Upinak – you moose-hunting vixen!
Jaibones on May 5, 2009 at 11:15 PM
Come now, only the most high brow Buckley/Chomsky debate fare during actual confrontations…this isnt the daily kos you know ;-)
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 11:15 PM
LOL
Well, I’m a newb with bars and stuff. I go to one at school, but for one or two beers and a little food. I haven’t really gone out “bar hopping.” My buddies do in the beautiful port town near us, but I haven’t gone with them yet.
I like to grill, eat, get drunk early, get some, then sleep.
I’ll have to try staying up late one of these nights.
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 11:15 PM
I never limit myself.
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:16 PM

ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:17 PM
Adventurous. Good!
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 11:17 PM
Thats quite the exclamation.
I believe it will be duly noted in the mind of anyone who both
a) disagrees with you
and
b) plans on strolling by your property anytime soon.
Thanks though.

ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:19 PM
Maybe the press needs to get targeted a few times, just for fun. It might slow down this character assassination game they play.
Jaibones on May 5, 2009 at 11:21 PM
Perfect
Honestly id start a book with that line. I’ll pay you when I use it in my memoirs. Ive always wondered how id approach describing the feeling of waking up in a strange bedroom in some part of town you’re not familar with…wandering outside, taking that first pull of that first morning cigarette…surveying this strange new place.
you just figured it out. thanks :)
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 11:21 PM
It’s 11:20 EDT. Where are you…grilling, eating, getting drun, getting some…or getting ready to sleep…
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:22 PM
have done none of the sort this evening!
maybe this weekend
blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 11:23 PM
Definitely bolt ons. Nice shape, but decidedly not natural. I’d put the age of the picture in the last 3-5 years; her face is still pretty soft in the photo; maybe 19-20.
I’m sorry, but besides how to spell it, what exactly do you know about being a Christian? Based on the garbage I’ve seen you spout, it ain’t a hell of a lot. You should look at being a good Christian much like men look at dogs licking themselves: envious, but ultimately impossible.
austinnelly on May 5, 2009 at 11:24 PM
Slinks his Army vet self away…. *grin*

I’ve watched more than my share of film noir…
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:28 PM
If looking at that photo is wrong, then I don’t want to be right. Quite delicious, I must say.
Or, to put it in Perez Hilton lexicon: I give that photo three snaps in a circle.

Apparently…im impressed. i really have tried for years to try and explain that. though ive since quit smoking, so the feeling has taken on a bit of a different meaning as of late.
ernesto on May 5, 2009 at 11:31 PM
I love soldiers, too…
and sailors (married one) and airmen ( gave birth to one)…
…ain’t nuthin’ like a man in uniform…

Really?? Who?
Oh, Cinco de quatro, everyone!

All kinds of stuff. But I get paid mostly to write and edit technical articles and opinions/humor.
What kind of fiction do you write?
Daggett on May 5, 2009 at 11:43 PM
Just a joke on my part…lol. Great Grandson of several Army Vets, Grandson of a Marine and Soldier, son of a Navy Vet. I am lucky enough to come from a family that has had military in every generation, and they have served in every war since the nation was born.
coyoterex on May 5, 2009 at 11:48 PM
If you haven’t ever seen the film Major Payne, it is classic Damon Wayan, who plays a Marine drill sergeant, and it is very funny. Rent it, see it, and drink in that medicine known as laughter.
OneVision on May 5, 2009 at 11:52 PM
Short, clean romance, fiction…
…to date….
ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 11:58 PM
What is it with conservatives and clinging to the flavor of the month before you know anything about them? I’m not saying that her photos were that racy, I’m just wondering why you would even care to defend some nobody. Cmon, how many people here even watched the pageant live?
Terry Silver on May 6, 2009 at 12:00 AM
All veterans are loved by me…
..thank you, and your family, for your service.
ladyingray on May 6, 2009 at 12:00 AM
I will. I’ve seen bits and pieces of it but never the entire movie. Looks like I have my weekend movie watching planned…
ladyingray on May 6, 2009 at 12:02 AM
Wow, the left just won’t let go of this, will they?
Dollayo on May 6, 2009 at 12:08 AM
What’s to watch?
If his “wonderfulness” Perez Hilton hadn’t said anything on his blog, no one would know anything about Carrie Perjean.
That doesn’t change the fact that, regardless of the racy “status” of her photos, there is no correlation between said photos and her opinion regarding gay marriage.
ladyingray on May 6, 2009 at 12:13 AM
No. Seems to be much fear on the left.
ladyingray on May 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM
I’m just wondering why you would even care to defend some nobody.
I’m just wondering why you would even care to attack some “nobody”?
Bishop on May 6, 2009 at 12:27 AM
Defend some nobody? I’ll defend anyone’s right to respectfully state their opinion when asked. And as for her photos? Since she’s a Christian, it’s between her and God. If it was a mistake, then it’s up to her to reconcile. It’s really nobody’s business.
Dee2008 on May 6, 2009 at 12:27 AM
I didn’t sift through all these comments, and I am sure someone brought this up, but just in case, it won’t hurt to ask:
WHERE IS THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN?
BillyKess on May 6, 2009 at 12:27 AM
Too racy? This the same network photoshop-ing a strip downed Obama? When did the left all of a sudden discover “proper decorum”?
aigle on May 6, 2009 at 12:31 AM
It’s not just the left. Liberty University removed the videos they posted of her visit in light of the photographs coming out.
SnarkVader on May 6, 2009 at 12:33 AM
ahhhhhhh….
to be young again…..

You think YOU’RE old? Meh. When I was your age, I was twice your age.

This only proves one thing Hollywood…
marriage between a man and a woman is sexy!
Read ‘em and weep, Leftist chumps.
Saltysam on May 6, 2009 at 12:59 AM
So are you saying you are older then dirt?
What exactly is older then dirt.. star stuff? You are gases from a crab nebula?
upinak on May 6, 2009 at 1:00 AM
If it were Michelle Obama’s early “racy” topless pics, the mooncalf media would be demanding thay they be put on postage stamps tonight~ and enshrined in major museums by tomorrow, noon.
What the Obots hate is anyone who opposes their march to cultural sepukku.
And the MSM’s “outrage” is as phony as Obama’s “swagga“.

Face it, Lefties hate beautiful women. There could be no other reason for liberal women to assume the sackcloth and ashes of their demeanors over the last 40 years.
Anybody who likes pretty girls (of all ages) as I do will know what a terrible disappointment it’s been to be surrounded by the Baggy Clothes and Birkenstock Brigade anywhere Lefties congregate. One of the main reasons they don’t have children is that it’s hard to tell which one is the opposite sex.
warbaby on May 6, 2009 at 1:14 AM
Umm, I never attacked her. She isn’t worth anybody’s time. Just as Joe the plumber wasn’t. One statement shouldn’t make anyone an icon. The thing is the “right” loves to create major news stories out of people who in actuality contribute nothing.
Terry Silver on May 6, 2009 at 1:15 AM
seriously… you need to get out more. LOL @ one statement.
upinak on May 6, 2009 at 1:16 AM
Yeah liberals hate beautiful women. I wonder what the political leanings are of the average playboy subscriber?
Terry Silver on May 6, 2009 at 1:19 AM
Actually, hustler did a survey. Wanna know what the political party was?
upinak on May 6, 2009 at 1:22 AM
FINALLY, I got the pic to load of young Miss Prejean in her britches.
Attacking her for being beautiful, unclad and a Christian only exposes the feebleness of these children. Women who look like that and engender those, ah, feelings in me are direct evidence of the existence of God. It’s no accident that Southern men have responded to beautiful women with a fervent “Thank you, Jesus” since time immemorial.
Metrosexuals see a picture like that and remember their mothers, scolding them about how nasty boys are.
Pathetic.
mr youse needn’t be so spry

Yeah I said playboy but go ahead and give me the survey of the hardcore magazine hustler. You know that I was being sarcastic right? Honestly I think that liberals and conservatives appreciate beautiful women at about the same clip. Although I am liberal I hate it when people get so partisan that they honestly think that a straight, red blooded, American male doesn’t appreciate a beautiful women, regardless of party.
