Video: Campaign to destroy Miss California escalates; Update: NOM stands by Prejean

posted at 4:10 pm on May 5, 2009 by Allahpundit

If you haven’t seen the “scandalous” new photo yet, feast your eyes. It’s been many moons since I’ve looked at the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue but I remember shots like that being in there even when I was a kid. (Or even sometimes on the cover.) Which is to say, it’s very late in the day culturally to be feigning shock at material like this — and yet NBC, the network that aired photos and video of the Virginia Tech killer glorifying himself, has decided that the pic’s simply too hot for the Peacock to handle. A cynic might wonder if they want viewers to imagine that it’s worse than it is. Good thing I’m not a cynic.

There’s an open question of when the photo was taken — she says it was several years ago, others say it’s more recent — which may be relevant to whether she was a Christian or a pageant contender at the time but doesn’t much matter to her critics. Their goal, using the pretext of “hypocrisy,” is simply to try to make her radioactive within her own political and religious communities by painting her as some sort of fallen woman. It didn’t work with Palin vis-a-vis Bristol’s pregnancy and it won’t work here, but presumably they’re drawing some gratification from the mere thought that they might be causing her discomfort. Pure vindictiveness, but then what did you expect?

Update: Maggie Gallagher from the National Organization of Marriage issues this statement. I told you it wouldn’t work.

Because Carrie honestly said what she believed in answer to a question–marriage is the union of a man and a woman– she is now the subject of ongoing character assassination. The level of hatred directed at her is astonishing. Even more astonishing is her personal courage and strength of character in the midst of these attacks. Of course Carrie is not perfect. On a personal note, as a former unwed mother, I want to say to Americans: you don’t have to be a perfect person to have the right to stand up for marriage. Nothing gay marriage advocates can do can change the fact—we all saw it on national TV—that Carrie is a young woman who surrendered all the glitter Hollywood has to offer, because she would not become the kind of person afraid to say the truth.

Through Carrie, we are also learning, the lengths some people will go to hurt and harass those who speak up for marriage.

Into darkness, into danger
Into storms that rip the night
Don’t give in, don’t give up
But give thanks for the glorious fight

Someone has to face the mob
Rush in, you have to rally and win, girl
When the oppressors of this world are saying not to
By God, you know you’ve got to march on, girl

Never hold back your step for a moment
Never doubt that your courage will grow
Yes, it’s higher and higher
And into battle with the tyrant smear merchants you go

Liberals have no sense of humor. Have you noticed most liberal women are always frowning and usually are homely? (excluding the hollywood airheads who are just liberal to be trendy and keep working).

Perhaps it is when you do it, but when I was young, it was no laughing matter. I know I’m old and perhaps times have changed, but I remember the hunt as being quite romantic: stars, moonlight, candles, and Rachmaninov.

NBC are scum. Period.

There was more skin during the Miss USA Pageant bathing suit segment.

They want the ignorant and uninformed (their base) to believe the pics are worse than they are.

They keep making me look at pictures and read stories (un)covering Miss Carrie Prejean.

Keep it coming. I’m not dead yet.;-)

Blacksmith8 on May 5, 2009 at 7:39 PM

I’m finding the whole spectacle humorous.

No one seems to find any fault in placing all the blame on the homosexual judge for her losing, yet denounce any facts that are not complimentary to Carrie. Many openly wonder why there was a homosexual as a judge for a female beauty pageant.

I’m laughing at the rampant hypocrisy on BOTH sides of the issue.

I didn’t see anything distasteful about this one photo.

They just don’t understand Christians and so they think they have the ammo to finish her off. Two big problems: 1. We’re not as prude as you think we are. 2. One of the basic tenets of our faith is forgiveness and an understanding that we’re all sinners. Duh.

It’s the same with Bristol Palin. They thought that would seal the coffin on Palin. What they don’t understand is that many Christians have teenagers that have had children out of wedlock. It’s that they want to DISCOURAGE it, but they don’t want to hush it up and rush to the nearest Planned Parenthood… So I guess many “prudish” Christians are actually more open minded than most on the left.

Upstater85 on May 5, 2009 at 7:51 PM

As already stated, that is not a nudity picture…its the pose SI uses, sometimes on their cover, in every swimsuit issue.

Some ambitious person needs to make a video of NBC showing pictures like that and worse…like the massacre guy…and then contrast it with that tool’s “oh we cant even show you as it is too dirty to show you on our non-dirty network.

Because Carrie honestly said what she believed in answer to a question–marriage is the union of a man and a woman– she is now the subject of ongoing character assassination.

Amazing isn’t it? 20 years ago this would have been declared contemptuous opprobrium, today it is considered de rigueur by our new left-wing overlords. Homosexual marriage today; Polygamy, pederasty, and bestiality tomorrow. What’s up is down, and what’s down is up.

What was once good, is now evil, what was once evil, is now good.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if this continues, and, unfortunately, I don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel, you can say farewell to the America we all loved and fought so hard for.

Hick on May 5, 2009 at 7:39 PM

No doubt, most liberals, like yourself, find themselves sitting on the sidelines, above the fray, throwing rocks at those who actually believe in something. You would consider anyone a hypocrite who has moral standards. You, on the other hand, have none, thus you are removed from any qualification of hypocrisy. How can you be a hypocrite when you stand for nothing but your own selfish desires.
Unfortunately, the side you sit on is a pool of sewage, and the only reason you don’t notice the stench is because you bathe and drink from it daily – much like the Hindus along the Ganges.

Forget it, Upstater85, they don’t want to answer good, logical questions like that, it takes the issue places they refuse to go. Most of the time – in fact all of the time that I’ve heard them – they wave it away with, “but that’s not the issue we are discussing!” Sometimes they will remark, “OK, if polygamists want rights, more power to them.” Then when you ask them about marriage between a father and his teenage daughter they scream, “UNFAIR.”

The amazing part of all of this is that intelligent people take their arguments seriously!

Foster’s works when you need a beer…Have you ever had “dead guy ale”…

ladyingray on May 5, 2009 at 8:39 PM

If the Democrats keep at this they’ll lose the moderate vote and be doomed to political irrelevancy. Oh, sorry, this thinking only applies to Republicans…

gwelf on May 5, 2009 at 8:35 PM

I got this from another thread, but I think it applies.

One has to think that if the Left is trying to paint Prejean as some exotic dancer, then how many women are they turning away from their movement? I mean if Prejean is a poll dancer and Palin is satan, then the average Jane (with all of her mistakes in life) must be the mud the democrats walk on… Maybe the democrat party needs to become a little bigger tentish…

I really don’t see any argument that would allow for gay marriage and not allow for polygamy. Anyone?

Upstater85 on May 5, 2009 at 8:05 PM

No – which would please islam, mightily! Also, I can see NAMBLA actually having a leg to stand on. Some dope has already tried to marry a goat in MA.

The Activists would say that would never happen – but that is what they said about gay marriage when they lobbied for civil unions years ago.

Foster’s “works”??!?! It’s better than THAT. Nope haven’t seen dead guy ale anywhere.

Going to participate in the fight yourself??!

blatantblue on May 5, 2009 at 8:40 PM

I have to say.
I disagree with Carrie on this issue.

Expecting rocks to be thrown at me…

However I will stop the support vocally and otherwise of this issue because I can’t stand the far left kooks and thier childish tactics.
By the way the wonderful femists don’t speak for me either and they can go shut up also.I am sick onto death if I don’t support everyone of thier ideas, I or any other citzen can be attacked.
I am prepared to fight and fight hard for what I believe in but I am also ready to fight dirty like the left does because they are pi**ing me off.

Has anyone seen DeathToMediaHacks or capitulus lately? I think they banned themselves.

kingsjester on May 5, 2009 at 8:37 PM

No, not recently…

This one needs to get banned (14 yo kid thread) – this is far too below the belt.

This kid’s a twat. Whoever in the ‘movement’ is exploiting him, please DIAF.

I don’t agree with her position, either. I do entirely agree with her that she’s being targeted for speaking out about her personal beliefs.

What’s particularly dispicable is that doing so means people dig up stupid stuff from when she was 17.

As long as the argument is “we should let people that love each other get married,” I see nothing that should logically stop polygamy (there’s even a historical argument here).

Upstater85 on May 5, 2009 at 8:43 PM

I’m pretty sure that’s where it’s headed.

Polyamory is very popular in CA circles already.

AnninCA on May 5, 2009 at 8:43 PM

It’s just going to have to be PALIN-PREJEAN 2012.

This was essentially my point earlier. If you disagree with her, fine. But don’t attack her to just shut her up.
