Video: Campaign to destroy Miss California escalates; Update: NOM stands by Prejean
posted at 4:10 pm on May 5, 2009 by Allahpundit
If you haven’t seen the “scandalous” new photo yet, feast your eyes. It’s been many moons since I’ve looked at the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue but I remember shots like that being in there even when I was a kid. (Or even sometimes on the cover.) Which is to say, it’s very late in the day culturally to be feigning shock at material like this — and yet NBC, the network that aired photos and video of the Virginia Tech killer glorifying himself, has decided that the pic’s simply too hot for the Peacock to handle. A cynic might wonder if they want viewers to imagine that it’s worse than it is. Good thing I’m not a cynic.
There’s an open question of when the photo was taken — she says it was several years ago, others say it’s more recent — which may be relevant to whether she was a Christian or a pageant contender at the time but doesn’t much matter to her critics. Their goal, using the pretext of “hypocrisy,” is simply to try to make her radioactive within her own political and religious communities by painting her as some sort of fallen woman. It didn’t work with Palin vis-a-vis Bristol’s pregnancy and it won’t work here, but presumably they’re drawing some gratification from the mere thought that they might be causing her discomfort. Pure vindictiveness, but then what did you expect?

Update: Maggie Gallagher from the National Organization of Marriage issues this statement. I told you it wouldn’t work.
Because Carrie honestly said what she believed in answer to a question–marriage is the union of a man and a woman– she is now the subject of ongoing character assassination. The level of hatred directed at her is astonishing. Even more astonishing is her personal courage and strength of character in the midst of these attacks. Of course Carrie is not perfect. On a personal note, as a former unwed mother, I want to say to Americans: you don’t have to be a perfect person to have the right to stand up for marriage. Nothing gay marriage advocates can do can change the fact—we all saw it on national TV—that Carrie is a young woman who surrendered all the glitter Hollywood has to offer, because she would not become the kind of person afraid to say the truth.
Through Carrie, we are also learning, the lengths some people will go to hurt and harass those who speak up for marriage.

She shouldn’t be lecturing any body about moral values when she is as guilty as anyone. Which part of the Bible does it say get breast implants
nice343 on May 5, 2009 at 4:21 PM
Ya know I tried to find breast implant in the Bible but must have missed it (I guess it was in Dumbassius’ letter to the Troglodytes), but I did see a few paragraphs on forgiveness and kindness to others.
Perhaps if you read the Bible you might find that as well.

My breasts are also perky. Just ask my wife. They are also hairy.

the difference between Christians(conservatives) and Liberals on this is quite simple:
Christians know they are fallen sinners, Liberals do not know this and are in rebellion against the idea of such.

I mean, I’m not a parent…..but when I do have a daughter I’d like a little more for her than fake titties, a bleach job and a topless photo shoot.
Jus’ sayin’.
strangelet on May 5, 2009 at 4:33 PM
True that. But, irrelevant. The girl’s a model. She had a sexy pic taken of her, very niiiice.
So what?
it’s said best with:
SIDE BOOB! Hide the children! Ahhhhhhhhh!
I think I’ll support gay marriage now. /sarc
It’s the height of absurdity that, in our free country, a plumber or a model gets more scrutiny than the president. These hacks attacking her are digital brownshirts.
joeindc44 on May 5, 2009 at 4:42 PM
Dude, I’m not saying Carrie’s a bad person. I’m judging her actions, not her as a person. And her actions make her look like a hypocrite.
MedSchoolCatholic on May 5, 2009 at 4:42 PM
Hey, Ash. Great comment, as always.
And I’m sorry to be catty, but isn’t this all about the radical-queer-left just being jealous (again) because they don’t look like that? Come on, girls – yes, she’s gorgeous, especially in her natural color which I prefer to the dyed blond look, but why not just admire her beauty and let it go?
I don’t look like that, but I can appreciate her beauty without feeling bad about myself.
Oh, and Upinak? I’m 210, I work out 2 hours a month, and my moobs are kind of perky, too. FYI.
Jaibones on May 5, 2009 at 4:42 PM
As I said in the similar post in Headlines, what part of Jesus’ statement: “Neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more” do you not understand?
The left loves it when, say, Jennifer Aniston appears in a magazine with less on than Carrie, but they will condemn Carrie for daring to say she is a Christian when she’s made a mistake. I’ve made some mistakes in my life, but does that mean I’m not qualified to speak my opinions? (Libs, don’t answer that.) Ok, which of you are perfect? Guess what? “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” “The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Christians aren’t perfect, we are just forgiven. The blood of Christ is powerful!

This has to be the funniest thread evah! LOL
youngO on May 5, 2009 at 4:43 PM
Why is it bad for a Christian girl to look hot or sexy. Christians have sex. What is undeniable is that you will destroyed when you raise your voice in opposition of liberalism and the gay mafia. No fair is fair, the Dixie Chicks paid for they’re comments but it was the fans doing the payback. I don’t remember Hannity or anyone digging up Natalie Maines past to make her look bad.
If conservatives want this type of attacks to stop (like those against Palin also) we have to go on the offensive.
When your fighting gutter rats you cannot complain about the location of the fight.

Let’s throw it back in the libs faces. Look for ANY lib (particularly actors/actresses and musicians) who have ever thanked God for anything. Then look for anything about them that they try to pin on conservatives to show them as “hypocrits”. Post it and say “So you really want to play this game, huh.”.

Very attractive woman. Who says Christians can’t pose in pretty pictures?
mr.blacksheep on May 5, 2009 at 4:44 PM
My only request here is for the lefties to PLEASE keep on attacking Miss Prejean.
Every time you do that you make her into MORE of a spokesperson and you hurt your own cause a little bit more.
Luckily, the lefties don’t understand the first rule of holes.

rollthedice on May 5, 2009 at 4:45 PM
I have to say, I’m having a hard time finding exactly what’s hypocritical here.
Prejean’s answer to Hilton’s question was that she doesn’t believe in homosexual marriage, not that she doesn’t believe women should take “topless” photos….
conservativeinthecity on May 5, 2009 at 4:45 PM

How is she a hypocrite for getting breast implants? Where in the Bible does it say thou shalt not augment one’s body? Where in the pageant did she speak out against fake boobs?
She answered a question about gay marriage and said she believed marriage should remain between a man and a woman. She even preempted her response by apologizing if she offended anyone.
Despite giving an articulate, honest answer to a question stating a viewpoint shared by the majority of Americans, including Californians and the current President and Vice President, the media has launched a smear campaign against a private citizen. What was that about journalism being dead?

You keep using that word (hypocrite), I don’t think it means what you think it means.
It would only be hypocrisy if she did what she preached against.
Since she hasn ‘t married another woman, then she’s not a hypocrite.
And boob jobs and modeling pictures do NOT make a person immoral.

LincolntheHun on May 5, 2009 at 4:48 PM
Exactly. Had she condemned gay marriage then applied for a marriage license with Ellen DeG, then she’d be a hypocrite. Not being a perfect does not discqualify one from proclaiming her faith, or upholding that faith’s standards when called upon to do so.

Oh, and I finally took a look at the ‘scandalous’ photo.
Really? That’s it?
Why are we talking about this again? Did we suddenly time travel back into the 1950′s?
Oh, I know. This is all about trying to shame someone into silence and eroding her support among those who believe in traditional marriage.
It’s all about the context.
Asher on May 5, 2009 at 4:48 PM
You can find photos more risque than that on the pages of every woman’s magazine out there, not to mention half the ads for underwear, body lotion and shower products on NBC and all the rest.
Yes, it fits right into the playbook: don’t debate the point, demonize and destroy the opposition personally.

This seems along the lines of the 911 video/photos of people jumping being too graphic to air. It is not the content of the photos, or the context in which they are taken, but rather will it help or hurt their agenda?
Not a huge fan of breast implants myself, but no big deal if someone decides to get them. Not hurting anyone. It seems like they are trying the typical shotgun approach, in if you throw enough junk out there, hopefully something will stick. Same thing they did with Palin. Thankfully we have the internet now, and it is not just the MSM providing news.

If I’m following the liberal logic correctly…
Had Miss California been a vegetarian instead of a Christian, and photos were found of her eating a nice thick medium-rare steak. Would that then also be adequate evidence to label her a “hypocrit” and nullify any opinion she held on gay marriage?
conservativeinthecity on May 5, 2009 at 4:55 PM
You better fraking preface that statement, dude.
Posing for pictures w/ a little side boob is in no way a breach of any moral code of conduct. Models routinely take photo’s like this.
If Stormy Daniels held these same beliefs, which she may, Her body of work in the adult industry wouldn’t diminish that opinion either. Tool.

The attacks against Ms. Prejean here are of the exact same sort of those that try to demonize Rush Limbaugh as a drug user. Its really pathetic the depths some people will sink to to discredit those whose opinions do not match their own.
I never attacked Meghan McCain’s appearance because I disagreed with her on the direction of the party.
I never made botox jokes about Nancy Pelosi.
Why? Because those two have plenty of stuff in their arguments worth arguing against that has nothing to do with how they look. If you can’t attack your opponent based on the merit of his or her words, then shut the hell up, because your argument is worthless.
