“Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less.”

Let Gallup poll this exact question I’ll guarantee the outcome of 70-30 against the proposition.

Hi, Hawkdriver. I hope you have seen that your fan base is becoming huge. By the time you come home you will have attained rock star status. Take excellent care of yourself and let your buddies know that we support all of you.

Of all the issues trending away from the GOP, more government isn’t one of them.

Apologetic California on May 5, 2009 at 10:35 PM

The day I’ll look for more government in my life is the day I think the Borg is the perfect society.

Speaking of which, any libertarian trekkies going to see the movie tomorrow or Thursday?

Agreed. We should be preaching reform ourselves before Obama brings a plan to the table.

Powell, the, er, un-empowerer???

Upstater85 on May 5, 2009 at 10:37 PM

Powell is the same guy who said Ogabe would be a transformative President because he would be the first black POTUS. Thanks for that in-depth analysis, Powell, and for the rest of the advice you are currently giving.

Bishop on May 5, 2009 at 10:37 PM

He blasted radio commentator Rush Limbaugh, saying he does not believe that Limbaugh or conservative icon Ann Coulter serve the party well.

Colin Powell is an excellent example of what can happen to a person when they are exposed to the DC lifestyle. He went form being an excellent General to a mediocre Secretary of State to a hack shill for liberals. Conveniently forgetting all the people and values that brought him to prominence in the first place. His picture should be next to the phrase “sell out” in the dictionary.

Cindy Munford on May 5, 2009 at 10:39 PM

The Republican Party is in big trouble and needs to find a way to move back to the middle of the country, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said Monday.

So why is the opinion of a liberal rat bastard traitor who left his boss out to dry vis-a-vis the Plame fraud relevant.

Colin Powell should have left his reputation intact instead of becoming the black version of Jimmy Carter. He isn’t trustworthy or credible- certainly when it comes to the what the GOP should do. The bastard betrayed the party long ago and is no more of a Republican than John McCain, Arlen Specter, Ted Kennedy, or Susan Collins.

Colin Powell could never be mistaken for a Conservative but the idea even a Republican would say this is ludicrous.
He is no longer relevant in any real sense of the word.

50+ million people who didn’t vote for Ogabe would beg to differ with Colon.

His claim is wispy and undefined, so put it to a test by asking the American people with real world situations:

Do you want a government clerk deciding on where to place a stop-sign in your neighborhood? Sure, no big deal.

Do you want that same clerk making your healthcare decisions for you? Uhhh, NO.

Powell, Specter, and McCain should start the Irrelevant Party… They’re guaranteed to get the 20-something vote from MegMac

You’d think they do these things to make the base more upset and thus stronger!

“Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less.”

…well…here’s $.02 from someone else who’s been sold to the American people as noble, leaderly and infallible….

…and, it’s so sad…here was a black man that anyone could admire…so long as you did it uncritically…another face on the Black Mount Rushmore, along with Rosa Parks and Dr. King…and so very beguiling, too, to those sold on their own “racial entitlement guilt…and who needed a black man to admire….

…because, you see, noticing a person’s race is, well, what we’re supposed to do in America…before looking to their achievements, so’s to better judge those achievements….

…shhhhhhhhhh…airing dirty laundry…move along…nothing to see here….

…and, don’t'cha like the way his prominence as a Republican got blacks just ruuuuuuuuushing to the GOP!

Personally, I fell for the sales pitch, myself, for a lot of years…and then found that he was a token in the country club which is the Republican Party today…guess that makes me a prime sucker for hucksters flogging soap flakes and over-priced sneakers, n’cest pas….

…well…he shot his bolt as an appointed politician…wouldn’t risk his reputation in an election…so, I guess that he’ll take his place in the college of “moderate” cardinals and spend the days he has left among us lecturing us on how “moderate” we should all be….

…let him lecture. Personally, I think that he’s about as genuine as naugahyde….

We’ll see if any of the usual suspect RINOS show up in this thread to criticize Powell. I’m pretty sure that his silence shows that Dubya agrees with his guy Powell on this.

Buddahpundit on May 5, 2009 at 10:54 PM

fogw on May 5, 2009 at 10:54 PM

6 years ago, Colon Powell was formally charged at The Hague by our Leftist friends with War Crimes.

And then, in the autumn of 2008, he officially endorsed Barry Hussein O’bama.

He was immediately “rehabilitated”, as old Joe Stalin would say. And all of his sins were forgiven.

Give me that old time religion, Lyndon!

Del Dolemonte on May 5, 2009 at 10:54 PM

It’s all a sham. Everything. I’m tired of being told how to think, how to feel, how to vote, how to live my life. I thought I was past that decades ago when I moved out of my Mommy and Daddy’s house at 18-years old.

Colin Powell and Dr. Noneck are just two cogs among the very many tearing us down so they can ‘build us back up’. They’re doing the bidding of thy master(s).

We’re being kept in the cooler under glass and soaking in marinade for awhile. Once we’re tender and saturated with juicy flavorful indoctrination, we’re going to be dutiful and obedient liberal-elitist-Obamatons like the rest of the sheeple. If they’re lucky, we might even ask for seconds. If we’re good, we may get a small minty wafer for dessert.

Screw that. Colin Powell’s got his nose so far up the liberal Democrats’/Socialists asses, all he can see are butt cheeks pressed up flat against his lenses. He’s gone and got himself tetched in the head. We don’t need bigger/more government. We need quite the opposite. I demand quite the opposite.

But as they say; Demand in one hand. Crap in the other. See which one fills up first.

Dr. Noneck is a wolf in sheeple’s clothing. But he’s not the GOP’s wolf. That’s for damn sure.

I’m sick and tired of these shenanigans. I’m sick and tired of my countries new President (he’s not MY President). And I am fully sick and tired of my Government.

…I think that it would be a colonectomy…-ectomy, I think, is the propery suffix for “cut the damned thing out”…having had a colonoscopy, and still fully capable of all the major and minor benefits a colon makes one (and one’s immediate surroundings) heir to, I can attest that a colonoscopy wouldn’t rid anyone of anything….

…a colonoscopy is more of a procedure along the lines of doing an Indiana Jones via the cat-flap….

…and, besides…it’s Colin….

I know I’m going to draw flak for this, but damn the torpedoes: full speed ahead.

I – a military brat – respected General Powell once, but not anymore. Military service aside, it has become evident that the man is more determined to assure his legacy more than he is concerned about the welfare of our nation.

One could try to rationalize that his heart is in the right place; however, it doesn’t take much to realize that he is helping promote the same vile politics and policies he once fought against as a soldier. The same goes for Wesley Clark and several other retired and discharged officers of our armed services.

Service to the nation doesn’t end on the day one retires or is discharged. These men may have served their nation, but that is almost nullified by the backwards politics and antics they now advocate.
