Video: Romney takes a shot at Palin?

I can’t quite believe he meant to be this nasty but her fans at Conservatives 4 Palin are outrageously outraged. Either way, should make for a sweet battle royal in the comments between Mittheads and Palinistas. This is reminiscent, actually, of the last time he mentioned Palin publicly, when at CPAC he made a self-deprecating joke about how much more public interest there is in her than him — while also pointedly noting her absence. I think he’s trying to be self-deprecating here too by deflecting John King’s question about why there aren’t more Republicans on Time’s “most influential” list with a joke about how ugly they all are, but it comes off like he’s calling her a lightweight whose influence derives from her “cuteness.” (Which wouldn’t be the first time a GOP candidate’s made insinuations along those lines.) If she’s the butt of the joke, though, rather than the rest of the GOP, how to explain the mention of Rush here too? Surely Romney isn’t suggesting he’s also on the list for creampuff reasons.
Politico piles on:
“She’s bigger in the media than in reality,” lamented GOP consultant Mike Murphy, a longtime friend and adviser to John McCain.
“Palin,” he said, “is the only Republican politician right now who is interesting, a little different, connected to the last campaign and related to an occasional story in the National Enquirer.”
Another GOP strategist carped, “The media is still obsessed with the Tina Fey impersonations and intra-campaign drama.”…
Palin was initially not included on the Council because she didn’t respond to requests, but Sen. John McCain said in a conference call with reporters that he hoped she would be involved with the group.
“They would rather just ignore Palin,” said Murphy of the GOP mainstream, “but the media won’t let them.”
Of course they’d rather ignore her. They’re trying to nurture a media meme that the party’s finally rebuilding; the last thing they want is to put a spotlight on Palin and then see that meme cannibalized by tabloid stories about Levi Johnston or whatever. Until that business is settled, assuming it ever is, they’re better off keeping their distance. Even so, take Murphy’s warnings with a grain of salt: He’s been a Palin naysayer since the beginning, as well as a longtime advisor to … Mitt Romney.
After you watch, enjoy this amusing clip from C4P slapping Mitt around for his possible insult to Our Lady.

Has Palin ever insulted Mitt? Just askin’ here. Honestly – I can’t remember her ever doing that. And … well then why is Mitt taking shots at her if she’s never slighted him?
I think a man like that is not “Presidential Material”.
Nuff said.

And this isn’t a huge slam, but it is a slam. Eh, Romney’s an okay guy, but doesn’t seem to generate as much of an impassioned following as he would have to get to make it to 1600 Pennsylvania. As I’ve said before though, if he does make the rumors true by moving to Nevada and taking out Reid, I don’t think I’d be the only one sitting up and paying attention…

Are you for real???
Must be a very slow news day.
There is no way anybody could misconstrue what Romney said as a slam on Palin.
The question was if the party was losing its importance/credibility since there was only 2 people on the influential list. Romney made a self-depracting joke about how the Republican party isnt very cute.
The only way you could see that as a slam on the holy queen Xenu of the Palintology religion is if you are:
1) Incredibly stupid
2) Incredibly myopic and naive
In summary, it could be seen as a slam ONLY if you belong to the cult of Palintology where you are required to check your IQ at the door to join so that you have the intelligence level of Ms. No-Newspaper Palin herself.
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 4:11 PM
Your right Mitt did it too. I guess they all do. I don’t think Mitt is running again. I don’t think Mitt meant to insult Palin. I think this is much ado about bashing Mitt forever. I’m so amazed at the hate out there.
And some people on here looked only at the good I said about Mitt and nothing about the good I said about Palin. I don’t have a candidate in 2012 yet. I don’t even know who is running. The only ones that are ruled out forever are Huck and McCain.
I would switch parties over Huckabee. If that kind of hate and intolerance is what the Party stands for then I’m gone.
I detect much of the same intolerance in the Palin supporters and I find that troubling. Not Sarah herself but people who post “in support” of her. You can tell something about a person by the type of supporters they draw.
I could leave the Republican Party over that kind of intolerance and hate. I doubt Obama is going anywhere but back to the Whitehouse if that is how we continue to play the game.

I just went to Conservatives4Palin where I read this Perez Hilton level of hateful stupidity.
I think after reading the posts from the usual tools on this thread and after reading A$$Clowns4Palin, I can honestly say that I have as much respect for Palin and her followers as I do Obama or Meghan McCain. Same level of abject stupidity, meanness and jack-holeness.
It truly reminds me of the Huckabee campaign which makes sense as the same people are now fueling the doomed Palin campaign…the dumber part of the Republican party.
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 4:19 PM
If Sarah Palin had been VP (which is bad because it would have meant that John McCain would be President) and made the series of idiotic comments that Joe Biden has made, would the press be as controlled as they are in hiding the fact that the number-two person in government is a complete raging moron?
Sarah Palin provided a much needed jolt of personality to a campaign run by a cranky old bastard who hates the GOP base. She is not ready for primetime and I don’t think she is a serious contender for any role in 2012 when the serious people have their next chance at taking the nation back from the Chigago mafia.
highhopes on May 4, 2009 at 4:19 PM
I have referred to ‘boxing the compass’ as Obama’s approach of assailing Sarah Palin from all possible directions and from various quarters. BTC refers to the naming the 32 points of a compass in clockwise order. With that in mind here are IMHO the 32 approaches that Obama and Axelrod (borrowed also by Palin’s GOP opponents) and their allies in the MSM, the nutroots, amongst media pundits, in academia, and the entertainment industry will relentlessly employ to torpedo Sarah Palin’s potential Presidential run in 2012. They are listed in no particular order of importance or priority:
1)The use of ankle-biters and left-wing bloggers in their attempt to first rattle her and then unnerve her
The more time that Sarah has to devote to a legal defense fund and to deal with matters extraneous to campaigning or getting her message out the hope is the less focused she will become.
2)To frustrate and exasperate her intentions and agenda
This deals directly with her agenda in Alaska and the desire to undermine her at every opportunity. Witness what has happened in the past two months in Juneau. The goal is to dishearten Sarah and to point out to her that the task of trying to become POTUS in 2012 may be too arduous and the obstacles standing in her way insurmountable, that there are too many forces lined up against her for her to gain enough traction.
3)To bait Sarah into an unforced error
The goal is rile Sarah up so much that she decides to strike back and says something that becomes permanently politically damaging or that can be construed as permanently damaging
4)To frighten or terrorize Sarah
Remember Obama and his cohorts stem from and thrive in a thug culture that has strong ties to the principles outlined in Rules For Radicals by Alinsky. I’ll let the reader interpret what I mean.
5)To pigeonhole or classify her politically speaking
The Left wants to portray Sarah as a ‘fire and brimstone’ pro-life intolerant bogeyman out of the mainstream and pre-empt her from establishing her libertarian credentials and ties to independents and and enhancing her ties to the PUMA’s.
6)To mischaracterize her personality, intelligence, capabilities, talents etc so as to badly reflect on how she is perceived by voters and brand her as eternally unqualified to be POTUS.
Quite simply, the first prerequisite to decide whether to vote for someone or not should be to determine whether he or she can do the job or not.
7)If #6 doesn’t work at least relegate Sarah to a candidate who the ‘jury is still out on’ or the category of a ’second stringer’
In other words, should you stay with a proven commodity, Obama, or do you want to turn your country over to someone who you are still dubious about?
8) Marginalizing Sarah by diminishing her credibility
For those in Rio Linda, this means driving Sarah’s supporters, potential backers and money away from her by implying that Sarah is not a major player, that she has no chance of being the GOP standardbearer in 2012, or that she has absolutely no chance of defeating Obama in 2012.
9) along with #8 the use of statistics, graphs, polls, political history to demonstrate why Sarah is ‘unelectable’
This is the specious use of ’supposed facts’ to prove an opinion.
10)by demonizing Sarah to make her appear evil or to have evil intentions
Obamatrons already regard Sarah as evil. However there are a number of disaffected Obama voters who might consider voting for Sarah in 2012 if they felt Sarah was innocuous, gracious or non-threatening.
11)Assassinate her character and crucify her
This is part of #10 but goes a lot further delving into every aspect of her political and personal life in regards to decisions she has made and calling into question her judgment and motives at the time and being very petty and malicious while doing so.
12)Draining the swamp
Mao Tse-Tung coined this phrase to asset his belief that if the enemy was not allowed call upon the comfort or support of sympathizers it would be easier to defeat. Obama’s goal is to deny Sarah support and to isolate her from agencies that might come to her aid and assist her. I’ll leave it up to the reader how Obama and his allies would try to accomplish this.
13)erect a ’straw man’ that can be easily refuted and make Sarah appear misguided
For example Obama could claim that Sarah believes in a capitalist system where there is no regulation whatsoever and then slam the GOP and Sarah for Bush’s incompetence that led to the financial meltdown.
There are a countless number of straw men that can be conjured up. This is why Sarah needs a team around her who understands the potential damage in this area and who can refute every single false claim as they are brought up in the arena of ideas.
14)Exploit the inconsistency and expose the hypocrisy
When you utter thousands of words in speeches you are bound to contradict yourself eventually. What the Left will endeavor to do is to convert these apparent contradictions into episodes of lies, flip-flops and damning examples of personal hypocrisy.
For example many on the Left wanted to seize on the thought that because Sarah, for a fleeting moment considered ‘making Trig go away’ that this automatically made her a hypocrite.
15)Cite the establishment of a legal defense fund as proof of wrongdoing by Sarah
Why do you need a legal defense fund if you have not done anything wrong?
16)Attribute McCain’s words to her or cite her positions in the campaign that run counter to ‘Reagan conservative’ philosophy
Of course, the Left will never cite the primary axiom of Presidential politics for VP candidates is that they must support the message of the ticket, regardless of how he or she personally or ideologically feels.
17)Consistently repeating moments on TV or radio which were less than flattering to Sarah
The ‘turkey’ episode and ‘I don’t know what I read’ episode will be repeated thousands of tumes in 2012 to make Sarah appear foolish.
18)along with #17 to consistently mock and caricature Sarah amongst late-night comedians and SNL.
This is to convince apolitical types or younger voters who only get their news from this source to discount or write off Sarah as a worthy candidate and label her as a bimbo or a moron.
19)to discredit Sarah through the choice of who is advising her
As we still don’t know yet who that will be it would be hard for me now to tell you what Obama’s plans are but suffice it to say he will develop some.
20)to honeycomb Sarah’s organization with spies or fifth columnists to undermine its efficiency or effectiveness
This is self-explanatory.
21)To accuse Sarah from being out of step with the ‘new world order’
This is a deliberate attempt for the Left to hang on to the eastern elitists who still call themselves Republicans and who are ’soft’ on the Founding documents, American rugged individualism, cowboy diplomacy, and American exceptionalism.
22)To build up Sarah’s potential GOP Presidential opponents to the detriment of Sarah
Nothing could be sweeter for Obama and his merry men and women than to bleed some of Sarah’s conservative support away from her into Huckabee’s, Romney’s or Sanford’s camp during the primary season.
23)The use of tabloid rumors about Sarah, Todd, or her family
These stories are not only meant to titillate but are also an attempt to subtly accuse Sarah of having skeletons in the closet and thus question her honesty and sincerity.
Of course, the Messiah doesn’t have any himself, does he?
24)The use and distortion of the English language to depict Sarah in the worst possible light or to cause her to retract what she had said
During the 2008 campaign the Left tried to accuse Sarah of racism because of her focus on and sarcasm directed to community organizers.
25)Disinformation and propaganda
This is of the same magnitude as exhibited by Goebbels in Nazi Germany. It is completely orchestrated, always has a set purpose in mind and targeted on a 24/7 basis towards diminishing and destroying Sarah.
26)The insinuation that Sarah cannot do her job as POTUS and take care of children at the same time–that you cannot mix kids with business or bring your kids to work with you.
Tina Brown, editor-in-chief of The Daily Beast, recently tried these tactics.
27)Consistently convince GOP turncoats or fifth columnists to sell Sarah out on TV and why Sarah is not who the GOP wants to represent them
Meghan McCain appears to be the gift for Obama that just keeps on giving.
John Feehery and Mike Murphy are tied for second.
28)have academics and media pundits continually trash Sarah for supposed political miscalculations or being a lightweight
David Gergen, Ed Rollins, Jeffrey Toobinm, Katrina van der Heuvel, Margaret Carlson, and Gloria borger all have Sarah’s best interests at heart, don’t they?
29)Deny Sarah the recognition or credibility that she deserves or is entitled to
Taiwan has been a viable entity since 1949, but since 1971 when Red China entered the UN it has not been allowed re-entry. Much of the world acts like Taiwan does not exist.
And Obama’s goal is to deny Sarah legitimization. That was the main reason Obama stopped Hillary Clinton from appearing with Sarah in front of the UN at the end of September 2008 to protest Iran and Ahmadinejad’s presence at the UN.
Obama wants to make it appear that he doesn’t recognize Sarah’s existence, while all the dirty work is being done sub rosa or perpetrated by his nefarious allies to destroy her.
30)Accuse Sarah’s supporters of being alighned to white, racist militia groups or being right-wing extremists.
By inference, the attempt is to portray Sarah as a right-wing unhinged lunatic herself as well and anti-American.
31)Accuse or imply Sarah wants to impose a Christian theocracy on America and throw women who abortions and doctors who perform them in jail
This is a traditional tactic used by the Left to scare the bejesus out of young women voters and to keep them in the fold.
32)Saturation bombing
This is part and parcel of the first 31 strategies but overall a strategy to destroy the victim regardless of collateral damage.
Obama is not into taking prisoners or giving a sucker an even break. What he is all about is pre-emptive strikes, unrelenting pressure, the insidious erosion of an opponent’s credibility, and administering the knockout punch while the opponent has both hands tied behind his/her back or defenseless.
There are probably more than 32 strategies that Obama and Axelrod will employ but to those unfamiliar with the inner workings of politics I think this is a good starting point.

Romney wasn’t taking a cheap shot at anyone…there’ll be no room for debate either if it ever comes. The losers here once again are CNN and Time Tarner and all the subsidiaries…for a magazine greatly losing influence in the country, it’s still amusing to see the elites pushing the idea our political survival depends on being recognized as “influential” by the hierarchy in their bubbles. Romney all but laughed in JK’s face.

Speaking only for myself, I assumed Levi was white trash back in September, but thought he was trying to better himself since he had a child on the way. I thought everyone deserves a second chance, especially at that age. Once he started going on Tyra and talking about his private life, he pretty much destroyed that image.

Aaaaaaw, did Mr. Romney insult your precious precious Sarah Palin by saying that, uh, it would be more appropriate to only have 2 people on the most attractive list instead of the most influential list??? awwwwww….that was so MEAN of Romney.
Damn you nuts are scary pathetic.

Romney as McCain’s VP candidate last go ’round, and McCain would’ve lost by maybe 10 points more than he did. And yeah, Palin wasn’t quite accustomed to the national spotlight. Doesn’t mean that will always be the case, though.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:29 PM
Oddly enough this is the only thing I felt terribly passionate about today… so good work Allah….
It’s stupid though.
petunia on May 4, 2009 at 5:30 PM
The Wall has taken over the thread, once again with his stupid comments. Later.
HornetSting on May 4, 2009 at 5:30 PM
Yes, you are. You’re even more of a Mittbot than I’ll ever be a Palinista. Google “Mitt Romney gaffes”. There are precious ones.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:31 PM
You know if you ignore it, it drives them more insane.
see this:
And it makes fun of my reading and comprehension? LOL, just keep ignoring the creep. Eventually it will figure out something.. maybe.
upinak on May 4, 2009 at 5:33 PM
BuhBye.
DISMIIISSED!!!!!
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 5:35 PM
Possible alternative: “Yes, those two are quite influential; but actually, there are far more of influence in the GOP than the media is willing to admit.” Full stop. But then, I was led to believe Mitt was smart enough to think of something like that on his own.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:35 PM
The polls tell a different story. But, I am not going to argue with a twisted cultist like you.
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 5:36 PM
Yeah, you are right. Mitt is stupid. Sarah is smart.
Got it. Thanks for clearing that up.
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 5:37 PM
Whatever one’s views on Palin, though, a Republican honcho publicly piling on his party’s VP candidate from 6 months earlier is mystifying. I thought Murphy was sharper than that as well.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:40 PM
Nominate Palin and it’s four more years of Socialist takeover. She won’t get the women’s vote with the abortion thing…I think it’s time for a third party that is conservative on foreign policy and the economy. Leave social conservativism to the Republicans. We need a party that deals in reality.
We had a Republican president with a Republican majority for 6 years. How far along did the anti-abortion thing go? Nowhere…………Religionists are laughed at. I remember reading Bush,Rove, et. al. would be laughing behind Ted(the cured Homo)Haggard’s back as soon as he left the room. Time to have a government based on the Constitution rather than someone’s interpretation of the Bible..Until we have that, it will be more government by George Soros and Friends….
adamsmith on May 4, 2009 at 5:40 PM
I hope you get DISMISSED by our fearless leader. And soon.
HornetSting on May 4, 2009 at 5:41 PM
Palin supporters didn’t make Johnston into white trash; he did that himself by going on TV and talking trash about his and Bristol’s private life.
Palin supporters became sensitized by the lefty media and ruling-class hate-fest. The same thing happened to Bush supporters with the vicious lies of lefty media. The effect swamped honest criticism — that which could’ve helped Bush if he’d listened. There’s the danger.
The intangible plus for Palin is her genuine connection with Main Street conservatives. You can’t fake that kind of connection and it reminds me of one facet of Reagan. The instant reaction of northeastern elites validates it. Quick irrational hatred tells me they sensed a threat to their power and status. Stupid and destructive as they are, the ruling-class has good instincts about that.
Palin has things to prove if she even wants the job, but underestimating her could be the RINOs’ biggest mistake. Romney was my least of evils choice earlier last year. He seems OK, but I never really trusted him — there’s something a little too slick about him.
The video clip was much-ado about nothing — except generating hits for AP, heh!
Feedie on May 4, 2009 at 5:41 PM
What polls? Romney couldn’t even get past McCain. Game, set, match.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:42 PM
Yes that would have been better. But really what he said was not that far from what you suggest. I don’t get why anyone is mad at Mitt.
Why isn’t the anger focused on a list that only includes two Republicans!
petunia on May 4, 2009 at 5:44 PM
I THOUGHT YOU WERE LEAVING????
You missed me, admit it.
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 5:44 PM
You’re always free to vote Libertarian.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:45 PM
Palin wouldve been laughed out of the process had she tried to go through the Republican primary.
Can you imagine the fun of watching her in all those debates??
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 5:46 PM
Don’t address me.
HornetSting on May 4, 2009 at 5:46 PM
Please stop talking to me. Its getting embarrassing and I am married anyway.
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 5:47 PM
The anger comes from the sense of piling on, however subtle. And it’s obvious that a subtle dig was intended.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:47 PM
Eh, we already have that. It’s called the Liberatarian Party. It received a whopping 0.3% of the vote in 2008.
The Conservative Movement without social conservatives is dead. The last thing we need is to fracture the party further.
Norwegian on May 4, 2009 at 5:48 PM
I actually listened to that clip so many times… I think I need to make a trip to Wal-mart for some light bulbs now. While I’m there I’ll congratulate them on all the jobs they created.
Wal-mart benefited. Does Allah get paid for that?
petunia on May 4, 2009 at 5:48 PM
Sure it was, tiger. Sure it was.
You betcha.
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 5:48 PM
Of course she would have. She was unknown at the time, unlike Mitt, the Son of Rich Famous Father.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:49 PM
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:47 PM
I don’t think you listened to the clip. I don’t think Mitt was saying anything other than the list was obviously stupid to only include two…
He probably would have included himself… maybe that bugs you but Mitt said nothing about Palin. She is an after thought of the whole clip. Just a name along with Rush.
Thin thin thin skin.
petunia on May 4, 2009 at 5:51 PM
Oh, go play Mystery Date With Mitt, friggin’ Mittbot.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:51 PM
If we can keep Huckabee on Fox, doing his little tv show and Mitt keeps putting his foot in his mouth, we may actually get some new blood in the next election. We don’t want retreads from the primary.
AND WE NEED TO HAVE EVERYONE VOTE ON THE SAME DAY>>>>>>SUPER DUPER TUESDAY, so EVERYONE counts! Iowa, you suck and you don’t deserve to tell the rest of us who is going to be the next president!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HornetSting on May 4, 2009 at 5:52 PM
I listened to the clip. He could’ve said what I suggested, and I would’ve thought it was gracious and smart. Instead he sounded snarky.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:54 PM
Here’s my last post on this particular subject: the GOP is going nowhere without its base. N-o-w-h-e-r-e. Just keep that in mind.
ddrintn on May 4, 2009 at 5:58 PM
Did it really sound like the snark was directed at Sarah? Why not Rush?
In my opinion Mitt sounds snarky over the thought of only two Republicans who are “influential” which is a direct insult to him and all those at that meeting.
You are fighting the wrong enemy here. My guess is Mitt doesn’t have any dislike of Sarah at all. I would guess that if they weren’t rivals they would be friends.
petunia on May 4, 2009 at 5:58 PM
You just admitted that you are dumb.
Maybe Palin should do what her mother and father didnt do and watch their kids so they dont get knocked up in high school.
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 5:58 PM
That was uncalled for. You may well be a perfect parent. But I doubt that.
If your children never make any mistakes you still don’t get to claim that as your doing. People make choices, Palin’s kids make their own choices she teaches what she believes and they choose to follow that or not. And she loves and supports her children even if they embarrass her. I give her points for that.
petunia on May 4, 2009 at 6:05 PM
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 5:58 PM
Palin’s first child was born well after she graduated high school.
But you probably knew that. You’re smart.
cs89 on May 4, 2009 at 6:14 PM
WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.
Are you suggesting that Palin wasnt preganant when she got married?
I hope so…I would love to lay a smackdown on you. Its a fact. Mmmmmmmmmkay??
The Wall on May 4, 2009 at 6:16 PM
oh I get it, you admit she was knocked up but you dispute that she was in high school. yeah, I realize that…she was knocked up after school.
