Video: “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” mugged, critically injured at Wrigley Field

posted at 8:37 pm on May 4, 2009 by Allahpundit

ICU doctors are hopeful that it’ll make a full recovery, but the trauma is extensive. Things will be touch and go for the next 48 hours. If you’re the praying sort, now’s the time.

There is a silver lining, though.

Update: Whoops, massive brain freeze in the headline. Now corrected.

Take Me Out To The Ballgame is our national anthem?

Mark1971 on May 4, 2009 at 8:40 PM

Sounds an awful lot like “take out the trash”. No wonder her husband divorced her.

sheesh on May 4, 2009 at 8:40 PM

Wow…

It was for a good cause, though.

DangerHighVoltage on May 4, 2009 at 8:41 PM

Well she did say “Let’s get some runs,” but yea that was bad – Ditka bad.

Ted Torgerson on May 4, 2009 at 8:41 PM

When asked about the scope of its injuries, The National Anthem responded, “Dude. I survived Roseanne, didn’t I?”

Ahhhh, my ears are bleeding… I am having my lawyer draw up papers naming you as the individual who inflicted this agony on me…..

Her cause is admirable…

She is a talentless, psychotic bimbo….

I’ve always hated her since she dissed Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers.

Star20 on May 4, 2009 at 8:55 PM

Better singer; Tony Romo or Denise Richards?

carbon_footprint on May 4, 2009 at 8:56 PM

If that was for her Mom, then God Bless Her.
However, as a singer, she’s very pretty to look at with the sound off.

kingsjester on May 4, 2009 at 8:56 PM

Does this count as a hate crime?

Anna on May 4, 2009 at 8:56 PM

No alpha male gives a crap about Denise Richard’s voice…

Mister Ghost on May 4, 2009 at 8:56 PM

“”It took everything in me to get up there and do that,” says Richards. “My dad and my sister kept saying, ‘Just remember you’re doing this for Mom,’ so that’s how I got through it.”

……… and I am sure her Mother, resting comfortably in God’s warm and loving arms, is very proud of her.

I am sure those of you who mock her would have such courage……

Dear Allahpundit, that headline error gave me the best laugh today. Thanks!

Loxodonta on May 4, 2009 at 9:01 PM

Personally I believe she ruined the James Bond Franchise single handedly.

Denise Richards…a nuclear physicist? Ooooooooookaaaaaay.

Ouch. Even Harry Caray sang it better than that.

warbaby on May 4, 2009 at 8:48 PM

Harry Carey sang it better than that with his mouth full of bourbon.

JohnGalt23 on May 4, 2009 at 9:06 PM

Hot Air owes Ms. Richards an apology for this post. From your link it is stated:

Richards was in the Windy City for a fundraiser for the Kidney Cancer Association (her mom died of the disease about a year ago). While she was there, Richards asked Cubs management if the group could set up an informational booth at Wrigley Field during Friday’s game.

“In return, they said, ‘Will you sing?’ ” Richards explains to me. “So I said yes, because it’s for a good cause and we want to raise awareness about kidney cancer.”

So because she decided to humiliate herself in the name of a charity you decided to bash her. Shame on you and this is the thing I would expect from the extreme liberals.

JeffinSac on May 4, 2009 at 9:06 PM

Oh who cares, she is still hot.

JamesB on May 4, 2009 at 9:07 PM

Starship Troopers’ was AWESOME!

Lance Murdock on May 4, 2009 at 9:01 PM

That movie was so bad, I took hit points of damage from watching it.

JohnGalt23 on May 4, 2009 at 9:08 PM

That was criminal.

I’ll strip search her.

Yes, men are pigs; I am a man = beer tastes good.

SteveMG on May 4, 2009 at 9:08 PM

For a good cause. God bless her.

ROFL.. If Denise had pronounced the word “Peanuts” like he did.. there would have been a mob…

GoodBoy on May 4, 2009 at 9:18 PM

She’s been humiliating herself for awhile now with that abomination reality horse turd show she has on ‘E’. Maybe you all should watch a few clips of that fine production.

Like I said before…Her cause is admirable….but her pathetic attempt to keep on living the good life and not working for a living is pathetic.

BigWyo on May 4, 2009 at 9:20 PM

Take Me Out To the Ballgame National anthem something mugged by AP.

:P

bikermailman on May 4, 2009 at 9:23 PM

At least Hung was halfway on key. But I’m not buying him any penis.

That said, as bad as her singing was, good for her, doing that knowing she sings badly.

Kjeil on May 4, 2009 at 9:32 PM

Do something stupid and painfully bad for charity doesnt absolve you of the stupidity or painfully bad nature of what you did.

Yes, but it is the extreme liberals who only like to focus on the bad instead of the good and I expected better from this site and it’s readers.

I was just watch O’Reilly and he is also bashing her on her singing for charity. This is the type of crap I expect from MoveOn.org, HuffPo or any of those other liberal extremist sites, but not from Hot Air or Mr. O’Reilly.

Has the extremism become so bad that when an idiot who you disagree with does something good you will still degrade them for it?

Do I think Ms. Richards is an idiot and has done and said a lot of stupid stuff in the pass? Most definitely, but whaat she did here I stand 100% behind her and believe she should be applauded for, not denigrated over.

It is so sad the extremism has divided people so much that you can’t appreciate someone when they do something good, even though you disagree with them 99% of the time.

I will say again. Thank you Ms. Richards for what you did and forget all these idiots criticizing you for it.

JeffinSac on May 4, 2009 at 9:32 PM

Since when is Bill O above bashing people for no good reason? I do have to admit, I did like seeing him nearly throw down with Gerry Rivers.

bikermailman on May 4, 2009 at 9:35 PM

I will say again. Thank you Ms. Richards for what you did and forget all these idiots criticizing you for it.

JeffinSac on May 4, 2009 at 9:32 PM

Get over yourself, I dont have the slightest idea who Ms. Richards is and I really dont care. She did something painfully stupid and I dont care if it was for charity or not, more importantly, she knew it was going to be painfully stupid before she did it.

doriangrey on May 4, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Give her a break, it was for charity. She sucks at singing, but she knows she sucks.

Mr. Joe on May 4, 2009 at 9:57 PM

Give her a break, it was for charity. She sucks at singing, but she knows she sucks.

Mr. Joe on May 4, 2009 at 9:57 PM

No, you are right she did know and she should have done something she was actually, you know, good at….

doriangrey on May 4, 2009 at 10:03 PM

When are they going to declassify the documents describing her singing to detainees at Gitmo during questioning?!? I just confessed to three bombings and two assassination attempts during this one song and I didn’t even do anything wrong.

Still, she is HOT and she does get an A for effort/enthusiasm.

gregbert on May 4, 2009 at 10:27 PM

For a good cause.

Still painful to hear.

For real!

I just closed my eyes and imagined her singing that while cupping Neve Campbell from behind.

You know what? It started to sound okay!

Swear to God.

SlimyBill on May 4, 2009 at 10:59 PM

As a Cubs fan, I could easily do witout the Hollywood nitwits like Cusack and this chick jetting in for the game and “singing” this tired, worthless song.

Just play the damned game and shut up.

It figures. The game of baseball itself has been mugged, critically injured at Wrigley Field since 1908.

Crusty on May 5, 2009 at 12:47 AM

Aw, that wasn’t so bad. So she’s a little tone deaf. From the build-up, I expected a trainwreck. This wasn’t that.

Kensington on May 5, 2009 at 1:27 AM

I’m the official singer in a family of instrumentalists
Ms Richard’s was singing the Seventh Inning Stretch for a good cause-but that hurt.
Btw-I’m a die-hard Cubs fan who would love to sing at Wrigley.
I’m a nobody-but a twerp can dream.
*grin*

annoyinglittletwerp on May 5, 2009 at 1:38 AM

I pretty much waterboard & strangle any song I attempt to sing. As a child, I got in trouble for making fun of some songs we were working on for a play. I was being serious… that’s when I knew I wasn’t a singer.

That song should never be sung on tune…by the 7th you should be in lucky to stand for the “stretch”.

She was asked at the last minute, and showed good humor.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fun bags?

CaptainObvious on May 5, 2009 at 10:52 AM

OK, so she can’t sing. But hey, at least she knew the words!

Now if I were to point out the all time worst singing performance at a ballpark, my vote would go to …

Rosie Odonnel in San Diego! That clown finished up the national anthem with a nice crotch grab. Classy.

Freddy on May 5, 2009 at 12:12 PM

She did it for a good cause. Anyone who puts her down for it, is just plain insulting.

Yes. Anyone who was annoyed by that clip should contribute to that charity, to ‘make an amends’, as Senator Stuart Smalley would say.

And yes, Denise Richards…anyone who watched the clip and thought impure thoughts about Denise Richards or is thinking impure thoughts about Denise Richards RIGHT NOW should donate double.

curved space on May 5, 2009 at 1:28 PM

As someone who has been to Wrigley a few times when Harry Carey was there she wasnt half bad and as some of you have reminded all of us there have been worse see Mike Ditka,Ozzy Osborne, etc.

P.S. Southsider that hates the cubs but wrigley does rock! LOL
