I'm all for punishing the cops but the girl should get some sort of slap on the wrist for her behavior which was unacceptable even under the circumstances.

Only way this MF beats this lawsuit is if the entirety of Lincoln Park, wherever it is, is nothing but one giant retirement community. And hopefully not even then.

I am retired Law Enforcement and I cannot believe this is the first time this Sargent acted this way.

This guy needs to voluntarily retire or be terminated for cause. He is in a supervisory position and his demeanor effects that people that work under him.

Frankly, a two week suspension is a joke. I have seen my fellow officers terminated for far less than what this guy did. No wonder this guy felt he could abuse this woman with impunity if all he gets is a slap on the wrist from his chief.

He has the "god complex" IMHO and this time he got caught on tape. The fact he never asked why she was calling 911, is not only outrageous it is very disturbing to say the least.

He wanted to teach this girl a lesson and he got away with it, apparently she was unlawfully detained and arrested on a bogus charge on top of everything else this poor woman endured that night.

911 operators have a tough job but this was not an unusual call at all.I have seen and heard far worse without the caller being humg up on or the operator losing his or her cool.

I just have to wonder if this guy was recently transferred from patrol and was assigned in the 911 center for some other reason.

His attitude is what I would expect from a guy that is burn out from working patrol and was mandatorily transfered to a less demanding position due to his "tude".

The fact the reporter said there was nothing in his file for disciplinary reasons is meaningless. Personnel files are not public record and he could have had been written up for all kinds of problems that would not be made public.

Of course the department is going to say he is highly decorated. They are looking at a negligence lawsuit and I would be willing to bet the jury will not find that a compelling reason to dismiss the case against this jerk.

He apparently has other problems as well like lying which is usually not tolerated by any department. An officer is only as good as his reputation and since he lied for all the public to see he will never be believed in future court testimony.Any defense attorney worth his salt will bring this case up as an example of his integrity. He is done making any arrests because of this and I would not be surprised if his previous arrests are reviewed.

IMHO Lincoln Park PD has problems at the top and this is just not an isolated incident.

He hung up on the girl, twice, without knowing what the problem was and then lied about. Does he lie under oath during a trial? What else has he falsified? This guy is a control freak who has no business wearing a badge and carrying a gun. The officer should be fired summarily.

A highly-decorated 20-year veteran can have a bad day, too, and he shouldn’t lose his job over it. If he had worked for me, I’d try to save his job, too.

A bad day? Dude he hung up on an emergency call three times!

He is damn lucky he ain't facing manslaughter charges, and he sure as fuck has no business with a badge and gun. Time to retire before his God complex does get somebody killed.

Swearing is anti-social, selfish, & stupid, but it certainly shouldn't be criminal.

Having hung around Marines and Sailors who use the F-word as an adjective, adverb, noun, preposition, verb, etc. I can personally attest to how easy it can be to let an odd f-bomb or two slip out, much to my dismay.

I understand that this young lady was upset and under a lot of stress, but one point they always make for 911 calls is to try and remain as calm as possible. That police officer shouldn't have been the "Good-manners Polizei" and chastise her for her language and she should have tried to keep the swearing to a minimum.

But honestly, this guy is a cop. How many times has he been told to f*** himself? I mean, really, he was acting like he never heard that word before. I think they've handled the situation with this guy exactly how it should have. Props to the Lincoln Park PD.

How about a lifetime vacation for both of the JBT's involved?

They are both prime examples of why I don't trust Law Enforcement as far as I can throw the car they'll arrive in.

Clearly, neither of them has the temperament or judgment that we should expect from any mature and responsible person, let alone a person who claims that their job is to "Protect and Serve". That's protecting and serving at it's finest, I'd say.

If that's the best Lincoln Park (in whichever State) can find, I'm thanking The Lord I don't live there!

Sorry Ed but this cop needs to get fired. After watching that video I feel there's just no excuse for that level of stupidity and callousness. He made the mistake several times by repeatedly hanging up on her and putting a life in danger.

I hope the girl and her family sue and win big considering that the police department isn't handling things as they should.

My final decision, after going over most of the thread is, he should not be fired, because of his record, but he should transferred to a position where he can't interact with the public. Again.

On second thought, if this would be his second transfer--he's gone. Every dog is entitled to one bite, but only one.

"Whether anyone likes it or not … if they fire that cop … he has a law suit. Moreover, the cop will win."

No actually he won't. He violated procedure and recklessly endangered a civilian's life because he didnt like what she said. What if he hated cheesburgers and she said cheeseburgers three times and then he hung up on her?

His behavior is that stupid. He should be terminated at once. As a law enforcement professional he has a DUTY to perform his job regardless of his PERSONAL issues. Cops by the way have some of the worst gutter mouths I have ever heard.

I spent a few years in West Texas in the early 90's because of a unique educational opportunity, and the first thing I had to do was to train myself not to swear unconsciously. This was a few years before I had my first child, and I was very glad, when he came along, that I had gotten control over the f-words, and sh-words that used to flow off my tongue like water, a habit I picked up during my days working as an auto mechanic (a trade that would make anybody swear). I had some really uncomfortable moments during the first week of my time in Texas, because they don't put up with it there. So, I think the officer was wrong, but I think that the young lady needs to do a gut check concerning her apparent inability to control what comes out of her mouth. I hope she figures it out before she has kids. Otherwise they'll be running around the pre-school sounding like little auto mechanics.

It may seem a little off the subject:
Me and my fishing buddy, do a lot of marlin tournaments (tag and release only).
When a fish is on, we are yelling at each other, screaming, obscenities, orders, clearing the deck, pandemonium for about 30 seconds. You have just moments sometimes to get it right...
Then we settle down and take care of business...more then a few people have remarked "You sure aren't nice to each other", no we aren't, we are just focused on one thing, and making that one thing happen.
Feelings don't come into it, we are the dearest of friends (30 years of fishing with him), it is just at times, you don't have time to be "nice", you sometimes have just moments to "get it done".
This officer missed his chance to "get it done"...when you have just moments to act, you act in the best interest of getting done what you need to get done.
When it is all over, then you review.
Words are just words in the moments of panic...

The operator overreacted and should be reprimanded but this girl is an example of the ignorant language being spewed these days by our young people. The sad part is the adults in these kids lives are mainly responsible.

Well, at least medics showed up to help. Now all the young lady has to do is sue for false arrest and collect a pound of flesh from the town. Either that or the cop ought to stand still while she gets a free shot with a lead sap.

The idiot cop who didn't even bother to ask why she was calling and the moron(s) who arrested her should all be fired post haste (with no bennies, no pensions, etc.).

This type of extreme stupidity is not only dangerous to citizens, but also costly to the citizens who have to subsidize such jackassery in paying out $$$ in court costs and jury awards.

You know in the new era of journalism, do you think maybe for those of us that don't live in Lincoln Park, live within 50 miles of Lincoln Park, or ever been to a state where there is a Lincoln Park, it might be possible to put name the state somewhere in the story? I've seen news stories claiming this was in Chicago (it's not). It could be Michigan or New Jersey. Probably others. I'm not asking a lot. Courtesy of the USPS, there's two-character abbreviations. How hard could it be to add those. So unobtrusive, so helpful.

he doesn’t deserve the perp-chase interview he got from the TV station.

Yeah, he did. I don't care how many years he's been on the force; he needs a reminder who he's serving and how to handle stressful situations.

You and the cop in question are both scum.

The only difference is that the cop has done some good with his life.

After reading Mr. Blake's oh-so-compassionate posts in this thread, I totally agree.
