Down the memory hole: White House purges all Bush-era Twitter posts
posted at 7:10 pm on May 4, 2009 by Allahpundit
Why not? Nothing existed before the dawn of Hopenchange. Except, of course, for the stuff we need to prosecute people for. Oh, and stuff Obama can use to shift blame whenever he wants to remind people that he inherited a problem from the previous administration.
Given the widespread belief that Obama invented the Internet, many will scoff at the idea that the Bush White House had a Twitter account. But it did — and the administration handed over twitter.com/thewhitehouse at noon on Inauguration Day, just like it did with the whitehouse.gov website. Google still has the old account, with Obama’s tweets, in its cache.
Valleywag alum Paul Boutin suggests on Gadgetwise that this is a simple rationalization of accounts, matching the definite-article-free “whitehouse” username the Obama team uses on Flickr and YouTube. But Obama’s Twitterers didn’t just change the username on the account; they started fresh, wiping out all of the White House’s existing Twitter followers, and the entire archive of messages.
As Tanya, one of our Greenroom contributors, noted in the comments in Headlines, Team Barry could have simply asked Twitter to archive the Bush-era Tweets under a different username. No need to mass-delete. It seems so petty that I’m inclined to believe it’s the handiwork of a young/dopey staffer who wanted to hit the ground running on Inauguration Day and didn’t pause to think. Why would they be so hot to flush Twitter posts, of all things? Surely The One’s egomania doesn’t extend that far? Does it?

How petty and low classed can one administration be?

Allah you suck for recycling headlines!!!11!!!!1
And Bush is evil so therefore his twitter posts are evil as well. This just makes sense.

Then 430 BC….
The Obama’s election.

I wonder if this wouldn’t violate some federal law about having to retain electronic messages. E-mails have to be kept, why not, er, what’s the word, tweets.(?)
rbj on May 4, 2009 at 7:16 PM
I would love to have bho purged from all America’s memory hole.

letget on May 4, 2009 at 7:18 PM
It’s not just that they could have archived the messages. Twitter allows you to arbitrarily change usernames. If they wanted to use “thewhitehouse” they could have changed it to “thewhitehouse41″ or “thebushwhitehouse” or anything.
When you try to delete a Twitter account there’s a big button that basically asks “are you sure you want to go out of your way to destroy all this information?” It’s surreal that someone working in the White House would click “yes” on that. It’s *Presidential communication*.
omriceren on May 4, 2009 at 7:18 PM
Can we just rename the White House “DC High” and get it over with. This is so sixteen.
gopmom on May 4, 2009 at 7:19 PM
I can’t believe you question The One’s ego. How dare you sir.
Lance Murdock on May 4, 2009 at 7:19 PM
It is so much easier to delete history now days. In the old days the Fascists would have to start a fire and burn the history books.

If the Bushies deleted them before they left there would probably be obstruction of justice charges.
Mark1971 on May 4, 2009 at 7:22 PM
And slashdot, which would’ve posted this immediately had it been Bush deleting stuff and calling for his head on a platter just quietly ignores it when Obama does it.
Of course they were suddenly all for illegal data access when the guy hacked Palin’s hotmail account too.

Presidential Records Act
But again, why should someone as great as The One need to follow the law. It just gets in the way.
GrayDog on May 4, 2009 at 7:24 PM
I’m betting the ego is so much larger than any of us can even fathom.
And they dumped the followers of that twitter page too? Wow! How’s that bipartisan thang workin out fer ya, Obama?

0-bama needs to get rid of all of those pictures of old white men that clutter up the halls of the White House too. They distract from the Glory of The One.

I can’t really go there. They already freak me out so badly…I have to just look at some things, willfully so, with one eye open only. I choose to ignore many more things now than ever before. Let’s hope this is nothing more than stupidity…and not wholesale revisionism…like I believe he is capable of doing.
Mommypundit on May 4, 2009 at 7:30 PM
Looks like ObamCo is just practicing evidence destruction for.. you know.. like when it really counts.

Thanks again……..

A good time to remember that we don’t elect just presidents on election day, we elect administrations.

If Obama really wants to destroy the Bush legacy, let him try to bring Saddam Hussein and his sons back to life.
Next, Janet Napolitano will find some national-security reason to bomb Crawford, Texas. Just clearing the brush.
Steve Z on May 4, 2009 at 7:40 PM
If someone thinks Obama was involved in a meeting concerning twitter, they need to have their heads examined. Still it looks sh*tty. The White House doesn’t belong to them.
radiofreevillage on May 4, 2009 at 7:41 PM
Obama twitters anough for an entire community, organized or not.
It’ll come out one day.

Hey, what’s your beef? If it was a good enough tactic for Stalin, it’s good enough for his clone with nicer manners, Obama.
JDPerren on May 4, 2009 at 7:46 PM
Sure, why not give him the benefit of the doubt. After all it’s, by now, your habit. And so much easier than demanding an explanation. Wimps to the right of me…

Do I really have to answer that?
Hawkins1701 on May 4, 2009 at 8:30 PM
I would expect any administration to do this. I would expect it even more if the party had switched. I’m not even being nice to Obama on this one.
beefytee on May 4, 2009 at 8:46 PM
What the hell is a twitter and can you hunt it?

I was about to ask the same thing.

Del Dolemonte on May 4, 2009 at 9:30 PM
This dolt wants to erase a lot more than just twitter accounts dont you worry about it. Erasure of the 2nd and 1st amendment is right up there too on his to-erase list.
tx2654 on May 4, 2009 at 9:36 PM
Obama may be able to make tweets disappear with the push of a button, but he WILL get an education if he tries to tell all the rednecks to “shut up”, or he tries to disarm an estimated 40% of American households. Somehow I don’t think either one of those efforts will work out real well for him.
Yoop on May 4, 2009 at 10:19 PM
Well then it’s a good thing he hasn’t tried these things yet isn’t it?
Besides, I’ll tell the rednecks to shut up myself. If they’re ignorant, uneducated, bigoted simpletons…Once they have something worthwhile to say, I’ll listen. A redneck, by MY definition is an embarrassment to the American People and to the conservative party.
But yeah, he had better not try to take our guns away. I honestly don’t think he’s dumb enough to try. He MAY be, but I hope not….
beefytee on May 4, 2009 at 11:48 PM
Imagine this: Letting an entire country drown, but only toss life rings, in the form of bailouts, to the parts of the country you want to survive who best suit your plans. He is picking and chosing what parts of the country lives or dies. Things we deem worth saving, he may not deem worth saving. He truely is ‘rebuilding’ America.
The answer: Keep a list of what is being killed off and revive those things once he’s out of office.
Compare it to a jetliner going down maybe on purpose and only giving parachutes to your friends.
