Chris Wallace to Napolitano and Sebelius: Um, is Biden a crackpot?
posted at 6:17 pm on May 3, 2009 by Allahpundit
A goodie from this morning’s Fox News Sunday courtesy of Greg Hengler. Think of this as a blunter — and therefore meaner and funnier — version of the question Tapper used to make Gibbs squirm. We all know what the correct answer is, and we all know that Sebelius can’t give that answer. The suspense mounts: Can she figure out a tactful way to avoid saying, “Yes, he’s a moron”?
Incidentally, after warning Americans about the dangers of confined spaces during this time of non-epidemic, Vice President Crackpot hopped the Amtrak home to Delaware yesterday. A symbolic show of support for the country’s transportation industry after having needlessly maligned it? Or is he just so goofy that he forgot his own alarmist advice?

Wow! asking crackpots about other crackpots? How in hell did Sebelius, the baby killer and Napoli-Reno end up on Fox?
Isn’t Fox News on one of Napoli-Reno’s “WATCH LISTS” because they DARE employ Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and actually COVERED the tea parties?

Yes. He has a gift.
Now, would he please ask the same question about Janet Napolitano?

The scary thing about Sheriff Joe is that he’s a prime example of the Peter Principle. Unfortunately, the idiots of Delaware elevated him far beyond his capabilities years ago. At least he couldn’t do as much damage there. I continue to pray for Obama’s continuing good health. At least until 2012.

After having watched what Obama did through out the campaign, Biden realized what he better take the train.

I’ll spare everyone an obvious comment on how we all would be reading an AP’s lecture on yet another sign of demise of American journalism if such question was asked by a CNN reporter about Cheney.
Oops, I guess I just haven’t.

Biden’s comment on confined spaces was probably the first true statement he has made in years and he gets slammed for it. If Biden wasn’t as incompetent as he is, Barry would never have made him #2. Barry seems obssessed with surrounding himself with the most incompetent people he can find. When the worst thing imaginable happens, the number of those going under the bus will be the only hope he has to survive. Accountability to Obama is not a acceptable unless it is for self preservation.

Yes, no doubt if this question were asked about Palin, the left would be very concerned indeed about the state of journalism. I’ll kindly refer you to Friday’s video of lefty heartthrob/modern day Murrow Keith Olbermann devoting four minutes of airtime to breast jokes about Miss California and the ensuing non-backlash among the left online for a case study.

That seems to be true. Do you think it’s because it makes him look smarter, or is he just incompetent, or does he just want to be surrounded by a bunch of lapdogs. None of the above makes for a great leader.

See, here’s the thing. The list of my favorite modern time TV journalists goes something like this (in no particular order):
Russert, Carlson, Snow, Cavuto, Wallace, …
Notice who’s in the list, and who isn’t. So while I’m sure that by comparing Wallace to Olberman you meant to say something good about Wallace, I’m not sure you entirely succeeded as far as I’m concerned.

“And that’s Uncle Joe, he’s a-movin’ kind of slow…”
Of course, Joe wasn’t riding on the Hooterville Cannonball; most likely he was using the ultra-pricey Acela train. His financial records show that he uses Acela much more than the cheaper “regular” train. And we pay the tab.
Maybe after Joe gets laughed out of office he can star in a remake of “Petticoat Junction”. Bill Clinton will of course be the casting director.

It may surprise you to know that the first 3 people you name didn’t even major in journalism. The last 2 did.
As for Keef, he majored in something called “communications arts”. So he did have a bit of journalism training, but not nearly as much as Wallace, who got his first journalism training at age 14 when C-BS hired him to be Uncle Walter’s assistant at the 1964 Rethuglican convention. Wallace was a journalist thru college and turned down a chance at Harvard Law to go to work for the Boston Globe.
BTW Cavuto was an intern…in Jimmy Carter’s White House!

JohnJ on May 3, 2009 at 7:27 PM
I think it is a combination of both. In the corporate world, you can tell who the really good managers are: they hire and recruit people who are as smart or smarter than they are and they use those people to their fullest ability even if it means that at times the manager is somewhat overshadowed by his staff. The lesser manager who may be either incompetent or insecure avoids recruiting and hiring anyone who would possibly pose a challenge to himself or make him look bad. That manager will look for good people, but nobody who might be a threat to his authority or image. To the insecure manager, someone even raising a question is viewed as a threat because it appears to undermine that manager’s authority.
So, how close does this sound to a description of The One? Particularly the part about people questioning him?

Cindy Munford on May 3, 2009 at 7:32 PM
His reasoning is really quite simple – it’s much easier to be the “smartest guy in the room” when everyone else in the room is a confirmed, card-carrying idiot.
Also, there’s the “cannon fodder” principle. When he makes one of his infamous dumbass decisions, and it turns out to be stupid/illegal/just plain wrong, it’s much easier to blame it on, and subsequently terminate the employment of, someone who’s obviously just as much a dumbass as he is. Much harder to get rid of someone who really knows what they’re doing – and can remember where all of the bodies are buried.

Pay attention to how often the Left invokes “what science says,” as Sibelius does here. (Pelosi is famous for doing he same.) Shrewd legislators opposing cap and trade and other ruinous Lefty policies should express their objections and alternate solutions by prefacing their remarks with “what science says” and follow through with a few choice examples.

Biden is a very liberal guy who has trouble at times with the truth and at times with not puttin a foot in his mouth, but I would not categorize him as a crackpot. While his liberal politics do not serve the country well, Biden means well for the country; he has a son serving in Iraq. Sibelius and Napolitano, on the other hand, can be so categorized.

According to the HotAir banner ads of Oct/Nov ’08, Joe Biden is a man with a 148 IQ. +3.2 SD is not exactly stupid. It would be worth knowing if the ad was legitimate — and we’re all wrong about his intelligence — or otherwise (such as an underhanded attempt to skew the election, perhaps?).
Being foolish is another matter; it’s possible he’s intelligent but foolish. But words either mean something or they don’t. Are we saying he’s actually unintelligent, and if so, are there test scores or other data to prove it?

Tell you what. You come up with a clip of Cheney coming up with public heath advice on a pandemic that is in direct contravention of the administration official line, and yeah, there would be a serious question there. Wallace is concerned that the “elites” are peddling amongst themselves info that is different from what they are dishing out to the masses and that Biden’s statement was a “tell,” and Wallace was trying to challenge them to see how they’d react. Remember during the anthrax outbreak elites stockpiled Cipro for themselves while telling the plebes there was nothing to worry about. He checking to see if they’re doing the same thing here and is in fact doing a public service by being a jerk about it.
