The best part of fluffy garbage like this is that the media knows they’re going to be mocked relentlessly for it by the right — and they simply don’t care. So tingly are they over the second coming of Camelot that not only are they in the tank, they’re downright proud to be there. It really is like a romance: Sure, they’re acting moony and goofy, but damn it, they’re in love. How else to explain an otherwise sober reporter from the New York Times thinking it’d be a good idea to stand up at a nationally televised press conference and ask Obama how enchanted he feels?
I’m not sure how much dumber and gooier it can get. Maybe Bo will start himself a family with a good-looking poodle and our new president will heroically help deliver the litter. I can almost see the photo of him grinning, six new puppies in his arms, with various reporters making the “awwww” face just over his shoulder.

I always thought that Americans were supposed to be presumed innocent until proven guilty…I guess that only goes for Democrats.

The whole incident seemed to be the bad judgment of some truly unsophisticated and for the most part young people. I think the fact that there were pictures at all told the average person that these were unsupervised knuckleheads as opposed to crack interrogators in W’s secret torture plan.

I saw some references on the lefty sights mostly on the internet. It has to do with the ACLU case. The idea being that those people were scape goats and Bush and Rummy gave them personal instructions blah blah blah.
But there were investigations at the time and I would think the Pentagon would have access to this as well. It is not as if it was not common knowledge that the US government was questioning people and that in a small number of cases they used harsh techniques. I would not doubt that some of the soldiers in AbuGhraib were making a game of messing with these people. But unlike strangelet I am not ready lynch people without a trial.

There is no doubt that they behaved very badly but I think our antagonist wants to see W lynched not the participants. My guess that the one who remains in jail is the ringleader, who if I remember correctly was older and had a personal relationship with one young woman. It still seems unlikely that there was any official involvement with these actions, they appeared to be sophomoric games of a few. We will see how far it goes.

What strangelet is referring is to a lawsuit. There are several, brought by soldiers an detainees against all sorts of people. The CIA, contractors, whatever. Strangelet is assuming that there will be something new in the memos or whatever that will prove something not thus far proven.
