Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on May 2, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Marriage equality is going to happen in this country. It’s only a matter of time.
For some, this reality is exciting, uplifting and extraordinary. For others, it is scary, frightening, even unfathomable. But no matter your opinion on the subject, this truth is inexorable: Gays and lesbians will one day be able to wed legally in all 50 states. Our relationships will finally be recognized as valid under the law and protected by our government. And America will be a stronger country for it.”
***
“Instead of mocking Miss Prejean, the would do well to consider the wisdom of a titan of another sort: ‘If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.’ The more they attempt to strike her down, the stronger she becomes. And the more popular she becomes among her supporters and Americans increasingly irritated by the crowd continually eager to find someone to belittle and to blame.”

I googled Bob Dole to send an email to him but I didn’t get a feel for any of them being legit. So much for that idea.

For those of you who miss Ronald Reagan, this is how I always remember him.
However, Ronald Reagan is not dead.
He is alive and well in the hearts of those who love freedom.

Oh, for a second I thought they meant a wife would be equal to a husband. Different agenda.

Will the story be consider political, thereby ignored, because Rep. Kirk is a Republican?
Cindy Munford on May 2, 2009 at 11:12 PM
That is no way a certain statement. Everywhere the issue is put to the people, citizens have voted for one man/one woman marriage. Just because they say it is so, doesn’t mean that same-sex marriage proponents are correct.
Unless, of course, liberals keep infiltrating the courts and legislators around the country.
Mallard T. Drake on May 2, 2009 at 11:14 PM
I believe he’s in Heaven, where every year is like what he proclaimed 1983 to be.
jgapinoy on May 2, 2009 at 11:15 PM
…OK, most won’t understand my “code”. Reagan named ’83 “the Year Of The Bible”.

Great video.
I love his biography too.
His old days of saving lives as a lifeguard at a riverside beach. He had a record for life saves I do believe.
Funny, he went from saving lives as a boy to defending millions as a man.

I remember he and Mr. Gorbachev coming out of the meeting at Reykjavik and the look on the President’s face. He was normally so happy or serene looking, but his face was stern. I knew something was up but I didn’t know we had won. I guess everyone has a “favorite” president in their lifetime but what a glorious gift to us that he got to be ours. May we never forget.
Cindy Munford on May 2, 2009 at 11:22 PM
So why is it that the left hopes that Obama is the next Gorbachev instead of Reagan?

I’d love for Reagan’s spirit to infuse the party again. He was strong, tough, dedicated, and had a charming way with average and even simple people. He stood for principles without dismissing potential allies with whom he had disagreements. He laid the foundation for Republicans to win a majority. I think that foundation is still there, waiting and hoping.
Loxodonta on May 2, 2009 at 11:27 PM
Yes, Obama is carrying on the tradition of FDR, isn’t he?
jgapinoy on May 2, 2009 at 11:29 PM
In 1983, I was 38 years old, and at the lowest ebb of a long and difficult life which has included child abuse and losing my daughter to divorce. I spent an evening at a friend’s apartment in San Francisco to escape briefly the hellhole I was living in, and the Year of The Bible ads were showing on her TV. I sent for the Power For Living book they were giving away, and reading that led me to Unity and the Daily Word magazine. Now I’m studying for confirmation as a Catholic.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come.
‘Twas Grace that brought me safe thus far,
And Grace will lead me home.
Life isn’t perfect, but I’ll never forget that evening. Thank God for Ronald Reagan, and all he stood and stood up for.

American liberals have become a lot more leftist, angrier, entitled, and greedy for pleasure and power since Reagan’s days.

As Rush will remind everyone daily, the play book is there, already written and already proven not only to work but excel. We just have to pick it up again. All of us can have strong opinions on matters and on many we will never agree but to denigrate or wish someone ill for those differences is not something President Reagan would have ever done. He trusted the people and it’s time to prove we are worthy of that trust.
Good night everyone, you are a lovely group of people and I appreciate all of you.

The destruction that we will reap is going to be devastating I’m afraid. I tend to think my thoughts, as well as everyone’s, thoughts for the future aren’t quite as bad as they will actually turn out to be, but ever since Prince Obama and his minstrels have began their assault on the waterboarding program and those involved, I’m beginning to think that we are most definitely going to pay with thousands of American lives for the hubris and fulfillment of left-wing wet dreams.

I’m no expert either, I just lived through the period. But for most of the 70′s-90′s, I was working and commuting 12-16+ hours a day. I have never had much connection with the culture, political or otherwise, around me. I hardly ever watched TV, and rarely went to the movies. Work, work, work.

blatantblue,
Ronaldus Maximus is a myth. But Ronald Reagan was a real man and a real American. Don’t confuse the myth with the man.
He was reviled, opposed, and ridiculed by the “lights” of the media at the time. His vision was scorned until he made it into reality.
Don’t ever give up on your beliefs. In the end, it’s all you’ve got that no one can take away from you. Stay strong, and stay smart, and try to educate those around you. It’s the least we can do.

I think we can do it.
Honestly, I think we are of a different mindset of the Europeans.
They are still undergoing the post-WWII shock, where they decided to strip themselves of nationalism to embrace collectivism.
I tend to think Americans might try it under Prince Obarfy, but they’re going to spit it up rather quickly, unlike the Euro-peans.

Thanks for that. Reagan was Reagan during his talk about the Challenger disaster. His basic humanity and decency came right through the camera and touched the minds and hearts of the viewers.
Bush did that too at Ground Zero. And Kennedy could do that, but most of the other presidents in my lifetime couldn’t connect.
Clinton acted like he cared, and at times it was obvious.

I don’t understand why State recognition of marriage is more important to social conservatives than Church recognition of marriage.
“Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.”
We need to get government out of the marriage business altogether.

Upstater85 on May 2, 2009 at 11:59 PM
I could never approve of that and I think most Americans would be horrified. This is the greatest problem with the Left. We compromise, draw a line in the sand, but it’s quicksand and the goalposts get changed. And I’m purposefully mixing metaphors because there are no rules under contemporary liberalism.
Loxodonta on May 2, 2009 at 11:59 PM
Second thought: And if you get a new rule placed in law, then the liberal courts interpret it differently than intended by changing the meaning of its words, or find it unconstitutional by changing the meaning of the constitution. It is most frustrating.

Americans are suffering and making sacrifices, while DC politicians and lobbyists are getting rich.
So, I think the first thing the RNC should tackle is perks for members of Congress and reduce the Congressional bureaucracy. Start by setting the personal example of office holders themselves. And the Republican committees should look at their own staffing and budgets as well.
From there, Congress can start to recover the moral authority to take on the bureaucracy and perks of the federal administration and its employees.

I live in the second largest coop in the U.S. and we work with a $7 million dollar budget. Our management was like the Dem’s and were spending us into oblivion until I got elected president of the board of directors.
You have no idea how easy it is to not only balance a budget, but to also make drastic, pain free cuts after said management went wild with nothing to show for it (kind of like what Congress and the Precedent is doing.
We finally enabled a line item budget and took a 5% cut across the board on every item in said budget and then got rid of 3 employees. We also had a $200,000 shortfall before we did the new budget.
That 5% and the elimination of a couple of employees and voila, not only a balanced budget, but for the first time since our coop was formed, there was no increase in monthly rental charges everyone pays.
It was so easy, I don’t understand why Congress can’t do the same thing or am I being dense? I just got re-elected on Thursday night for my second term. Imagine that, all my moonbat neighbors voted for this dingbat, loudmouth conservative.

Most Americans, even a lot of liberals, have a good sense of pragmatism. A lot of what happens at the RNC and in Congress never sees the light of day. And Americans don’t see Congress wasting their money by the billions every day. Somehow there is a disconnection there. I don’t understand it.
