Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on May 2, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Marriage equality is going to happen in this country. It’s only a matter of time.
For some, this reality is exciting, uplifting and extraordinary. For others, it is scary, frightening, even unfathomable. But no matter your opinion on the subject, this truth is inexorable: Gays and lesbians will one day be able to wed legally in all 50 states. Our relationships will finally be recognized as valid under the law and protected by our government. And America will be a stronger country for it.”
***
“Instead of mocking Miss Prejean, the would do well to consider the wisdom of a titan of another sort: ‘If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.’ The more they attempt to strike her down, the stronger she becomes. And the more popular she becomes among her supporters and Americans increasingly irritated by the crowd continually eager to find someone to belittle and to blame.”

What do we got here, a bunch of college yahoo’s?/
WTF are you doing at home on a Saturday night?
I’m old, I have an excuse! What do I have to do, teach you young’uns how to party and study for finals at the same time????????
Knucklehead on May 3, 2009 at 12:48 AM
Good question… I have a project that I’m working on for the summer – putting it off. My other friends are prepping for finals, so that leaves me to procrastinate the inevitable.

Do you know what a straight man is in a comedy routine?
Just checking.
The only thing that makes me laugh about this administration is the teleflubbies when TOTUS is being bad.
Other than that, my emotions range from fuming to horrified.

I should be very stern with you, but I enjoy your company.
Loxodonta on May 3, 2009 at 12:53 AM
I recalled after I made my post (we are under the Prejean thread after all). I just went with my blunder.
That about sums it up.
Upstater85 on May 3, 2009 at 12:53 AM
And you, I left a compliment for you at the bottom of the previous page.
Loxodonta on May 3, 2009 at 12:53 AM
Coming to the party late but I’ve really enjoyed it.
In the beginning, liberals said that birth control was good and the sky would not fall if people used it.
Then liberals said that no fault divorce was good and no one would get hurt and the sky would not fall if it became law.
Then liberals told us that abortion was good and would mean all children were wanted and the sky would not fall if woman had choice.
Then liberals told us that homosexuality was normal and genetic and the sky would not fall if they came out of the closet.
Looking at this all now, I am devastated that I ever fell for their lies. But, there is one lie I no longer believe. That is that liberals are compassionate and loving and care about the little people. Their lies have nearly destroyed the little people.
The sky is falling.

Have we scared everybody away?
Or, are they sitting back laughing at our inane attempts at humor?
Or, are they all in a drunken stupor?
Have I missed any possibilities?
Loxodonta on May 3, 2009 at 12:56 AM
I am tired of the tyranny of the minority. Marriage has existed throughout all of mankinds history. There has never been homosexual marriage. In today’s world homosexuals can have everything that a marriage confers, but it is not enough for them.
As evidenced by Hilton, their rage and desire to destroy things not gay is the real issue. They care less about marriage and more about devaluing/destroying marriage because it has never been intended for them.

Could you possibly state in a more honest manner?
Thank You America1st

Gays like Perez Hilton shouldn’t dish it out, if they can’t take it. Don’t cry on MSNBC the next time you hear someone calls you a name you don’t like.

I’m seriously considering running for public office at the local level (gotta start somewhere). I really didn’t think I had it in me, to get up and make a big speech in front of 500+ people. And it felt pretty darn good to get a standing ovation when they found out about the budget stuff.
And I didn’t use telepromter lol! Since the eyesight is failing, it was easy to speak in front of all of those people…..I couldn’t see.

My only knowledge of Perez Hilton is through the Teen USA incident. He asked the question. Carrie Prejean gave a respectful response of her view that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Then, Hilton went home and fumed on camera his complaints about Prejean, calling her degrading slurs.
Nobody should treat another person in that manner for simply disagreeing with them. Frankly, I can’t imagine any justification for anyone ever using the slurs Hilton used. So, from my point of view, even if Hilton can take it, he shouldn’t be dishing it out.
Unfortunately, bitter, vulgar, and abusive hatred seems to be in these days in much of contemporary culture. All I can do about it is not add to it.

Please consider it carefully, especially the impact it could have on your family. However, if you feel you can live through it, win or lose, then please do so. We need honest people in government who have common sense.
And if you can apply the Golden Rule and Reagan’s 11th Commandment, I predict you will do very well.

Did you happen to catch the woman on O’Reilly with Laura Ingraham last night?
She said that she has had much worse said about her by conservatives including Laura. Laura had a fit and tried to stop her talking saying that she had never said a word about this woman.
I thought Laura handled her well, but I find too often that conservatives don’t challenge liberals when they make these outrageously false claims.

In my personal life, I never hesitated to speak out against bullies and far worse, at least until recently. Over the past fifteen years, I slowly got quieter to the point that since the second Bush term I am practically silent about my political and ethical views. The reason for this is that I have been punished by liberals for speaking out. Given my age, condition and circumstances, I simply cannot take such risks anymore. So, I only express myself online and anonymously.

Loxodonta,
I have had RPG’s fired at me, three times, a grenade thrown at me once and been under snipe fire and mortar attacks more than I could count. I wrote a column for a while. During that time, I was threatened and told that the readers hoped my wife and children died slow and painful deaths. I was fired once, for refusing to do something illegal. You can’t live afraid.

Give me their names and addresses and I will have a little heart-to-heart talk with them. If that does not work then I will use my little green ring and take them apart molecule by molecule and then put them back together again. And maybe I put them back together right and maybe I don’t. But they’ll be alive and conscious for every second of it.

I’m sorry you had to live through such difficulties, and am glad you came through so well. I’m thankful that there are younger people who are able to stand up and fight. More power to you. If there is anything I can do to help, in the ways I can help, I will as best I can. However, as there are times I have difficulty standing up, let alone standing up for myself …
I don’t live in fear.

Loxodonta,
I’m doing fine. You don’t have to worry about me. By the way, I’m not a “younger people.” I’m a grandfather, who has had a wonderful life. Stand up for yourself and seek others if you need support. Don’t let the bastards get you down.

Loxodonta on May 3, 2009 at 2:06 AM
Actually, with the federal Defense of Marriage Act and the state constitutional bans in most states I doubt same-sex marriage will be anything more than what it is now; abnormal.
It will always be a contradiction in terms.
As for the Constitution’s Article IV. Section 1. that does not apply to state licenses, which is what state’s grant to married couples – licenses. If it did doctors and lawyers would not need to get them in each state they wish to practice and hunting and fishing licenses from each state would be valid in all 49 other states (56 other states for you Obamaites). As I am neither a hunter nor a fisherman I am assuming those are not carried over due agreements between states.
Trying to validate an abnormal lifestyle choice by changing definitions only serves to reinforce the reasons the definitions were made in the first place.

You’re long gone, but I’ll chime in that I did see that Ingram segment on O’Reilly. What planet was that feminist from? Women like her cheer on conservative-women haters. It’s bizarre. I do disagree with you, however, about how Ingram handled it. I like her–a lot–but she’s not that great on TV. I find she spends too much time talking over guests. In this case, she should had the producer cut the other woman’s mike while Laura corrected her lie. Then, she should have allowed to continue only after acknowledgning the lie–as I recall, it had to do with the guest accusing Ingram of personally attacking her in the past when, in fact, this was the first time Ingram had ever been aware of the woman.
As I saw it, it was an important enough point to stop the debate and beat the guest over the head with her lie. The only way to deal with liars is expose them by drawing a big red circle around it and then making them admit that they lied.

sabbott on May 3, 2009 at 7:26 AM
There will likely soon be 13 states that recognize gay marriage or have civil unions that are equal on the state level.
A majority of Americans favor recognizing gay civil unions at the federal level.
The court question with DOMA is whether the federal government should recognize each state’s right to define and administer marriage. SCOTUS can invoke the commerce clause in support of the federal government’s own definition, but Scalia and Thomas have shown, as in “US v Lopez” that they believe the commerce clause has been stretched too far.
Rather than gay unions being legally abnormal, there will probably be a prolonged period where the states are divided over the issue.

jgapinoy on May 3, 2009 at 8:49 AM
This is a necessary application of the commerce clause.
Imagine the mess: Two men marry in CA, then move to Salt Lake City. Then they sue for their marriage to be recognized in Utah, & it works its way through the courts up to BHO’s liberal SCOTUS. God help us.

I’m almost positive y’all don’t believe that Ms. Prejean is/was the only contestant with breast augmentation…
Are you really going to go down that road?
Let’s start with hollyweird.
elifino on May 3, 2009 at 9:29 AM
That may happen. SCOTUS will probably avoid ruling on gay marriage but will likely address DOMA and “full faith and credit”.
Another issue with DOMA is whether the federal government has the right to not recognize a valid marriage within a state, in effect encroaching on the state’s power to regulate such matters.
Minimum marriage ages can vary between 13 and 21 by state. Could the federal government set a marriage age of 21 and ignore the state marriages for those under that age?
dedalus on May 3, 2009 at 9:57 AM
I don’t recall any hollywood persona EVER criticizing a woman because she had breast implants. They just hate women who can think and they especially hate hot women who can think.
Like abortion, homosexual marriage will be crammed down our throats by an immoral judiciary and a feckless elected government.
It’s a good thing that Christ is one day returning or this all could be awfully depressing.

No, we will be a less free country for it. That’s because for the most part the agenda is being pushed by liberals and whenever liberals hand us something it will cost us our freedom, our money, or both. Now I do have some sympathy for the libertarian case for gay marriage (ie. live and let live…keep government out of our personal lives). The problem is we do not live under a libertarian system. Government recognition of SSM carries with it all kinds of ripple effects in a big government “it-takes-a-village” society like ours. There are numerous example of this in my state of Massachusetts which was the first state to sanction SSM. One such example happened in a neighboring town. Prior to the SSM ruling in 2003, parents of students were issued warnings the day before any SSM materials were to be discussed in the classroom (I’m talking elementary grades here). After 2003, the warnings were stopped. When outraged parents complained, they were told by the superintendant that with SSM marriage now being legal in Massachusetts, they were under no obligation to warn parents when SSM was to be discussed (discussions in which SSM was portrayed as normative and any opposition to it was looked apon as bigotry). Now parents in that town have no alternative but to pull their children out of the public school system and put them in private schools. Of course not everyone can afford that. This is a clear case where parental freedom was lost. All of this because of the recognition of gay marriage by government. This is why I get so exasparated when I hear SSM supporters keep asking how gay marriage will hurt my marriage. I don’t think gay marriage will hurt my marriage. But I do think it will infringe on parental freedom. We are already way too far down the road of statism to have the government put it’s stamp of approval on gay marriage and NOT have it affect our lives in numerous other ways.
