Why wait?

posted at 2:12 pm on May 1, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Jim Geraghty discovers this amusing Obamadulation over at MS-NBC in the midst of their speculation on David Souter’s successor on the Supreme Court:

And some fun speculation: Had Clinton been president and Obama been in the Senate, would he be the favorite to fill the first SCOTUS opening? How about Clinton? Had she not been tapped for Secretary of State, would she be our focus right now? Who will be the first columnist to write: Could Barack Obama’s post-presidential career be on the Supreme Court?

That would not be entirely unprecedented.  William Howard Taft made that move, finishing a long career in public service by becoming Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.  Of course, Taft actually worked as an attorney for more than a couple of years and served as an Ohio judge, US Solicitor General to the Supreme Court, and on the US Sixth District Court of Appeals, any and all of which gave him a lot more credibility and experience than Obama for a seat on the Supreme Court — or for that matter, a seat in the Oval Office.

However, I’d gladly accept all of that if Obama wanted to take the seat now.  Well, except for one small detail:

President Joe Biden.

Jim objects to the legacy planning at this stage:

Really? It’s not enough that we’ve had 100 days of telling us Obama is the greatest president ever, that he’s the best qualities of FDR, JFK, RFK, Reagan, Clinton and Ataturk combined, that people are already arguing that two terms for him isn’t enough, but now we have to think about coronating him to his next extremely powerful position after this?

What next, figuring out some way to download his brain into a cybernetic body that won’t age, so that we can have his presence around forever?

I, for one, can’t resist speculating on what Obama will do with his life when he’s no longer President.  I’m just hoping that day arrives in 2013 rather than 2017.

Perhaps if the place of birth thing doesn’t work out Mr. Obama to the Supreme Court may be a solution to the dilemma.

Well it was like Dean Barnett pretty much sums it up here:

So if you’d hired Barack Obama at the end of 2004, let’s say to be a United States senator, you would have been on notice: You were getting a wonderfully gifted individual, but one with a history of failing to focus for long on the task at hand. And that’s exactly how it worked out for Obama’s constituents in Illinois. Shortly after becoming a senator, Obama began writing his second book, and shortly after that he began running for president. His accomplishments in the Senate have been virtually nonexistent.

It’s damn shame Dean left us so early. He would have been a great observer of Obama’s narcissism.

Obama clearly likes the trappings of the Presidency- more so than actually doing the job he was hired to do. He relishes being able to pre-empt American Idol to spew the latest round of propaganda fed to him by Rahm Emanual and his political strategists. That means the post-presidency of the filthy liar is going to be a humbling experience for a bastard whose arrogance has been allowed to run unchecked for years. My prediction is the filthy liar will spend his entire post-presidency trying to get the spotlight back on his pathetic life and undermining future Chief Executives by his out-of-school commentary on world events. It will be Jimmy Carter all over again but even more unhinged and damaging.

I think it would be a fine switch.
Bama would easily be the dumbest judge on the court. He would have the closest thing to a real job in his life and would screw it up royally. And publicly.

And Biden has nowhere near the ability to get anything done that Bama does through persuasion. Another royal and very public screw up that the Congress could not support for fear of the “pitchforks”. Pelosi and Reid are running amok as it is, and will continue either way.

The first step in an Obama second term would be getting rid of the 22nd Amendment. They already tipped that hand as soon as he was elected the first time. Unfortunately this comes up periodically, recently in 2005 and 1988 off the top of my head. So it’s a bipartisan bad idea.

Uncle Obammie is going to appoint Hillary Clinton to the Supreme Court of the United States… at some point.

Watch and see.

Nah, I’m still going with my theory that Hillary finagled a deal to assume the VP spot when Biden has reached his foot-in-mouth limit and resigns “with dignity”. Right now she can sit back in State, relatively immune, and watch the Usurper screw things up royally.

Sounds farfetched, but Hillary could have really sunk the Democrats last year if she wanted. All she needed to do was drag out the nomination process and keep the party split long enough to deliver the election to McCain. My guess is that she knew this and worked out a deal with the future TOTUS.

In either case, she got what she wanted. Hillary never forgets people who crossed her, and now the person who did is surrounded by her team in the WH, and in control at State where they can continue to do the same kind of damage they did to Bush, because he refused to clean house after the philanderer-in-chief left.

TheMightyMonarch on May 1, 2009 at 2:58 PM

I’d rather have Biden. He may be as leftist as Obama, but he doesn’t have the charisma of Obama. Without the creepy Anti-Christ worship Obama evokes in his mindless minions would we be storming full speed to totalitarianism.

I don’t it’s prohibited, but the reason why it hasn’t happen b/c the non-permanent members of the Security would think that one country would have to much power in the UN. But Obama is different, he borderline despises our country and the rest of the world loves him. So I think they would make an exception for him.

…but that is after he emasculates our military and makes the USSA subservient to transnationalism and the America-hating thugs running the UN, effectively killing what sovereignty we thought we had left. And probably legitimizing sharia law in at least some parts of our once-great land. (Can you say Dearbornistan?)

I completely agree with Chicago Jedi. Biden would be better… and safer. Joe Biden would kill this cockroach in its tracks. At some point, he’d self-implode whereas Obama is protected and lied about by the media. Hollywood Left and the crying Obots would never gather to worship Joe Biden. So Obama is the gift that keeps on giving… methinks his backers plan to push this mess into a Castro-Chavez lifetime situation.

The only salvation will be if his followers wake up and read some history… understand America. Understand we were not created for radical sheiks to crumple the Constitution, or to conform to a new world order. But I truly fear the power of trading votes for the comfort of welfare checks.

Vermont Neighbor on May 1, 2009 at 3:44 PM

Ya know, when Obama, and I assume most liberals believe the constitution should read , that redistribution, home ownership, and other such socialist ammenities are rights, within the constitution, and would interpret it, as such….I have a huge problem with that scenario.

Isn’t the job of any justice to abide by, and judiciate the laws as written, within the constitution? Not interpret it, or change it, to suit their personal ideologies. Bad idea. Bad Bad Bad!!!

curved space on May 1, 2009 at 4:02 PM

Obama will become the most despised president in history. The depth of the economic disaster that he is bringing will make his most ardent supporters turn on him.

Hoover lost all credibility in the 30′s even though history shows he did mostly the correct things. Obama’s credibility will be completely gone.

I hope they let him live. I don’t want him to be sainted as Kennedy was. Kennedy’s presidency was a disaster, but since he died at the hand of an assassin, the press beatified him.

They used the word great for the 1930′s depression. This one will require a modifier with even loftier(?) meaning.

I agree with others. Obama is simply one amendment away from President Emperor for Life. I like what Rush Limbaugh said the other day. Nationalizing everything isn’t their solution, it’s their objective. Why go to all the trouble only to hand over the power in 4 or 8 years? Especially if we get another Reagan in their to monkey with their changes to government. It’s clear they can’t win if they play fair. That’s why they turned public schools into Hitler Youth Camps, took over the media and rig elections. Again, why go to all that trouble when you can just be in office for life? The scary thing is they have enough votes.
