Aw: Beloved crooner urges us to support Obama in anything he wants to do

posted at 6:05 pm on May 1, 2009 by Allahpundit

A mellow, soulful palate cleanser courtesy of CNS. I’m torn: On the one hand, this is the most mindless display of fawning obedience to The One since that creepy Demi Moore celebrity pledge video. On the other hand, the guy’s 82 and so soft-spoken that knocking him would almost feel like taking a swing at grandpa. Sure, I could make the obligatory “he left his heart in San Francisco, but where did he leave his brain?” joke — but what kind of man would that make me? I ask you.

Blowback

In later years, one tends to mellow and turn a bit utopianist. Utopias are not real however……Obama and the rest of the left are Utopianists which is why the world seems so upside down when they are in charge. It’s a Quixotic Utopian charge against hard realities and common sense. Can’t wait for 2012 so the Utopianist’s ideas can be put back in a book where they belong…..

“I love everything he’s done and everything he’s doing,” Bennett said of Obama. “I think we should give him all-out support for anything he wants to do. We should all help. He’s giving our country back to us, and that’s the laws of the land – the citizens own the country.”

Really, genius? So if Obama wants to begin jailing large segments of the population we should simply support him? How about if he has an epiphany and becomes a conservative Republican tomorrow? Still on board, are you?

When asked if there is anything specific Obama has done that he likes, Bennett noted Obama’s speaking skills.

So, in other words, he’s a lemming who buys into rhetoric simply because it sounds good. You know, as someone who fought in WWII, you’d think Bennett wouldn’t simply love a guy because he speaks well.

As for laws of the land, I take it Bennett hasn’t seen Obama’s contemplation of letting Spanish laws prevail or releasing trained terrorists into the country in violation of federal immigration law.

Citizens should give him “all-out support, in anything he wants to do.”

Tony Bennett, my favorite singer – just a one-note thinker. It was terrible to see Barbra Streisand, an old favorite, become a one-note thinker, too.

But it has ruined Barbra’s stuff for me; I can’t help it. I can’t separate her from the music. Unfortunately, same with Tony. If I knew how to separate it, I would.

eaglescout1998 on May 1, 2009 at 6:19 PM

I agree with you, but with some exceptions. If the musician/singer has made their career out of political songs, it is to be expected that they will rant about politics onstage. Prime example of that is Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Gifted and Black. Also old protest singers like Joanie Baez.

I will happily go to their shows and listen to their bitching and moaning about the evil Bush, although seeing Baez screech for minutes on end was only doable once.

But if its a performer who’s never expressed their political views onstage and then suddenly starts to do so, that is crossing the line in my opinion. And I have been to several concerts over the past several years where the performers did exactly that. And in some cases, people got up and walked out.

Several years back, intellectual heavyweight Linda Ronstadt got her getalifes in a bunch onstage in Vegas and started ranting about how good Mikey Moore’s movie “F 9/11″ was. A sizable part of the crowd got up and left, and the casino fired her.

I have often wondered what it was about people like this (Soros, Oprah, etc) who have made a killing because of the wonderful opportunities afforded them by this country only to see them support policies and people that would take those opportunities away from everyone else.

I would say they’re ingrates, but suspect something even darker.

Back in 1994 I got to see Tony at Heinz Hall. I could barely afford my peanut gallery tickets and I was up so high that I actually got a nosebleed on the way up to my seats. But at one point he turned off his mike and just sang out and it sounded loud and strong up where I was. I thought he was amazing that night.

But on this, I beg of him to shut up. It’s great that he likes the president. But it’s pretty clear that a whole lot of other people do not. Some of those people buy cds and concert tickets.

myrenovations on May 1, 2009 at 7:00 PM

I like Tony, but he’s wrong. Obama is handing us over to terrorists, systematically destroying our economy, shredding the constitution, and leading us toward socialism/communism. And amazingly, taking up Bush’s policies in some form, or another, and expanding on them. Such as wire tapping.

The left, felt it was their duty, to protest, and speak out against that which they thought was wrong. We will speak out, against what we feel is wrong. That’s American. Not to many countries, with leaders, that Obama’s been pandering to, allow this.

God Bless America!!!

Hmmm… Mr. Bennett is the same age as my mother. Which means he grew up during the Great Depression, as well as WWII. My grandmother thought FDR saved the U.S.–chances are Mr. Bennett’s parents felt the same way. So why wouldn’t he support the reincarnation of FDR now?

Financial security is the Holy Grail to many of this generation. (At Easter we all had to reassure our mother that we were not in imminent danger of foreclosure–even those of us who had not been laid off.)

He served in the infantry in WW2 and entertained the troops on many occasions.
He is a teacher of jazz voice and has held many music workshops over the years. Plus he’s a decent artist and all around great entertainer who really connects with his audiences who adore him.
At 82, he’s entitled to his opinion whether you agree with it or not.
