Comments on: Specter made a selfish choice, says … Meghan McCain?

While watching the video, I couldn’t help but notice something towards the beginning of the clip. For the lead-in context, begin at 2:40 where Senator Specter starts talking about concessions the Republicans were willing to make in order to keep Senator Jeffords in the party. What caught my attention is this at the 3:00 mark:

“… and IDEA special education would become an entitlement, which would enrich that program by billions of dollars for children across America.”

Let me get this straight. If I understand Senator Specter correctly, he is saying that the decision to spend billions of dollars of taxpayer money would be based solely on Senator Jeffords not leaving the party. That certainly is an interesting way to justify an expenditure of that magnitude.

If any politicians are still wondering why so many taxpayers are upset with how government is running the country, perhaps this may offer them some small insight.

I wouldn’t want to see Meghan elected to anything, but it is wrong for us to ridicule her just because we disagree on some positions. She may mature over time as she sees more of what liberalism does and become a good voice for the party.

Argue with her positions, but cut her a little slack and don’t attack her personally. If we become the party of attack instead of the party of principle, we will lose every election in the near future, no matter how bad Obama and the Dems take this country.

McCain’s been telling Republicans and Conservatives for months that we need to quite being so devisive and just get along, “moderate” our beliefs as it were so we can all agree and make the party stonger…

now we hear from the sage six month old Republcian that we don’t need to all agree and “who wants to agree on everything?”

In a day or two after some conservative disagrees with her, she’ll be carping about devisiveness once again.

Funny how if you agree with Ms. McCain there are no problems. If you disagree with her gravitas on politics however, beware the wrath of the Maverick.

And it does, and I’m glad she said it. It’s a first, solid step. I hope she continues to mature and gain more life experience (job, paying her own way while people she would formerly support try to take as much money from her on her 1040, etc). She can turn out to be a very well grounded conservative some day.

At least, I’d like to give her that chance. Maybe stay off TV for a little while. Look how much I like Steele once he stopped going on TV long enough to realize he needed to speak out against Specter instead of the GOP.
