Specter made a selfish choice, says … Meghan McCain?

Like you, I fully expected her to join in with the Frum-ian “I told you so” chorus and applaud Specter for ditching a party that hasn’t listened enough to, ahem, “progressive Republicans.” Instead, despite all the heat she’s taken from the base, this.
Surely, surely, we can show a little love for Meggie Mac on this one.
Meghan McCain- who has been known for her outspoken criticisms of the Republican Party, “did not soften her voice Tuesday calling Sen. Arlen Specters party switch a “selfish choice.”
Recognizing that it had been a hard day for the Republican Party, McCain offered some encouraging words ” I am still a believer in this party! I have faith we can bring this back, who is with me?!?” she tweeted…
McCain sees the future of the GOP differently, “its good to have disagreements, were never going to agree on everything! Who wants to agree on everything? so boring.”
Elsewhere last night: “RED TIL I’M DEAD BABY!!!”, a display of loyalty in the party’s darkest hour at which even my beloved boss felt compelled to snark. Heart-ache.
Just to heighten the contrast between her and Benedict Arlen, here’s archive video from CNN of Specter in 2001 proposing a rule change to prohibit turncoats like Jim Jeffords from … switching parties. Exit question: Does La McCain know that, according to multiple sources, her pops almost pulled a “selfish move” back in 2001?

Eh, a broken clock’s right occasionally. Twice for analog, once for digital.
It’s nice, but she still has a long way to go to prove herself.

Are you kidding? The sow makes a selfish decision every time she opens her mouth. She spews this “progressive” garbage for media attention because she’s just as much an idiot as her father.
It’s all about media for her, not principles.

Meghan McCain just doesn’t want the base getting to like the tent minus traitorous lefties. Cause guess who is next on the list? Amnesty McCain and his spoiled brat of a daughter. Well, and Snowe, Collins Grahamnesty, etc…

tomas on April 29, 2009 at 7:07 PM
Allah, just because you have some bizarre crush on Big Mac doesn’t mean you have to try to force the rest of us to like her. I’m glad she realizes he only jumped parties to save his sorry political career, but that has nothing to do with the Republican party, no matter how Specter and Frum try to spin it. Her philosophy concering conservatism is still dead wrong and annoying as all hell.
Emily M. on April 29, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Meh. Didn’t Specter basically say that when he announced his switch, anyway?

Knucklehead on April 29, 2009 at 7:14 PM
He didn’t. I think Sen. McCain is a principled man. I know people on this site don’t consider him a “conservative” (although I do) but he has been much more conservative than Spector.

Who cares what she thinks? How did she become a pundit all of a sudden? Rush is right. Get her and her father out of here. Surely there must be a career path for her that doesn’t involve politics.
BetseyRoss on April 29, 2009 at 7:15 PM
I’m not surprised. She must see her dad (who is not as bad as Specter, imho) as a hero for staying and trying to lead the party out of the wilderness, so why would she respect Specter for leaving the party?
Y-not on April 29, 2009 at 7:15 PM
She’s not the only Democrat operative to voice this opinion.
thomasaur on April 29, 2009 at 7:15 PM

Moderates like Meggie Mac and Lindsey (lapdog) Graham are what has been damaging the GOP. They prevent a certain segment of the voters to be able to distinquish any differences in the two parties. Meggie saying ONE positive thing will get her some love, but not the relaionship she wants.

Thank God above, that we had Meghan here, to be our moral compass, and tell us right, from wrong, up from down, and the principles to stand on, to be a conservative.
capejasmine on April 29, 2009 at 7:57 PM
Seriously dude, you really have some McCain colored glasses with her for some reason. Does it occur to you that she knows selfish when she sees it because she lives it?
She BECAME Republican out of selfishness (only because her dad was the R nominee for President). She didn’t want to not be invited to all her dad’s cool parties. Look how much attention she’s getting now that she wouldn’t get if she were still a D.
Meghan McCain’s opinion is worthless.

She also said her Republican Party doesn’t have any litmus tests … I guess that’s what leads to Republicans voting for a monstrosity known as the “stimulus bill”

Spiritk9 on April 29, 2009 at 8:18 PM
I had already decided to partially forgive her when I read the “red ’til I’m dead”. So I’m pleased with her for the moment and I have to admit that even though I may not agree with the principles–she does have some and is ready to stand by them. Some plus points for Meg.
jeanie on April 29, 2009 at 8:20 PM
haha, that was funny. Nothing wrong with Ms. McCain speaking her mind, she just doesn’t represent anyone in the party and the press is acting like she’s a spokesperson. That annoys me, same as when they labeled Rush the party leader. She’s cashing in…hopefully for a few fleeting moments and then she’ll find a job.
scalleywag on April 29, 2009 at 8:24 PM
That certainly changes the view for me. I figured this bimbo for a Democrat voter by November, but so be it. If she wants to change the party from within, she’s welcome to speak her mind any time.

Yeah, he made a selfish choice becuase he didn’t drag her dad, and her along with him.
paulsur on April 29, 2009 at 8:37 PM
Sorry, AP. I see it the opposite way. Specter, opportunistic backstabbing lump of cr*p that he is (man, with those qualifications, I thought he would be a great candidate for the moderates to put up for 2012) actually deserves the praise. He knows that he doesn’t belong here anymore and bailed to a safer ideological haven. Meghan, like her dad, is arrogant and pig headed, and is determined to stay in the GOP and twist it into her Democrat lite shape, no matter how much damage she causes to the party. She’ll do greater harm in the long run with the divisiveness she causes than Specter ever could with his stupid voting on certain issues. No, Meg and Backdoor John both need to go.
austinnelly on April 29, 2009 at 8:39 PM
Someone must have told her to stop being an ass.
Also, the “Red til Im dead” Im sure was a response to Rush telling her & her Dad to leave the party too.
DwnSouthJukin on April 29, 2009 at 8:39 PM
So McCain said a few words? She’s pretty so let her talk all she wants. When there’s some eye candy to look at, who cares what she spews?
As for Specter, what could anyone expect from the guy who came up with a theory not even to be found in Star Trek? Specter (which means ‘ghost’ BTW and there’s no such thing as a ghost) didn’t ‘defect’. He finally got somewhat honest. For years he’s been doing to the Republican Party what he claims the bullet that killed Kennedy did. Obama is glad to have him, and I’m glad the Prez has him, too. I rather have a Republican who loses an election than a winning RINO.
Take heart, friends. I see this as a win, not a loss. Now to build on it.
