Pelosi to Republicans: You need to take back your party or something

posted at 5:45 pm on April 29, 2009 by Allahpundit

Precisely as compelling as advice from, oh, say, George W. Bush would be to a Democrat. She’s a little hazy on who she has in mind as “Republican,” but I’ll bet people willing to vote for statist crap up and down the line are prime suspects.

The California Democrat offered her own analysis of the political environment for her political opponents, asserting Republicans across the country are more willing to work with Democrats than their leaders on Capitol Hill.

“Yes, there is, shall we say – a ‘radical right-wing’ element with whom they identify. But by and large, I say to Republicans in America: take back your party. The party of protecting the environment. The party of individual rights. The party of fairness. This is not the Grand Old Party.”

Pelosi concluded her long riff about the GOP by saying, “our country needs a strong diverse Republican party.”

Does it? Check out the clip here from the same interview in which she defends the idea of one-party rule on grounds that the left’s just so gosh-darned diverse and independent that they can pretty much supply all necessary policy alternatives themselves. Especially creepy is how happy she is about not having to explain “process” anymore to the public, which is her way of saying that now they can pass anything they want without having to even superficially negotiate with the GOP to avoid a filibuster. Exit question: Is there anyone who qualifies as a “moderate Republican” who’s acceptable to the base at this point? Huntsman? Maybe not after today, I’m guessing.

Well its not like the MSM will ask them any tough questions.

The GOP really needs to just attack attack attack and let the left whine.

The dems are not invulnerable. Obama is not that likable.

The Left..especially San Fran Nan…can give all the advice they wish. I’ve no problem with that.

It is when the Right starts listening to that advice, then we have a problem.

The party of individual rights. The party of fairness.

I’ll agree with Empress Pelosi on that. But that begs the question, does she mean that the Democrats aren’t for individual rights or fairness.

Um…Specter switched parties because Republican voters didn’t want him anymore.

The party of protecting the environment. The party of individual rights. The party of fairness.

So, in other words, back to the progressive GOP of Teddy R. At least Specter talked about going back to the days of Reagan.

In a time of complete government deceit there is no shame in standing up and saying no.

What’s wrong with saying no to a trillion dollar spending bill no one has read. What’s wrong with allowing market forces to push out bad companies.

Saying no is the most patriot thing to do right now.

We the People need to firmly remind these self-anointed aristocrats that they work for us. Each and every member of the House of Ill-Repute needs to be given walking papers. Then, people of honor, morals and integrity need to be sworn in and undo decades of corruption, sleaze and spendthrift ways.

I’m not sure who all qualifies. I could have voted for and supported Rudy if that means anything, but that’s in large part because he isn’t always asking to be taken as a martyr because of his moderate status.

I personally welcome a big tent, so long as those in it can at least meet bare minimum standards, standards like limiting government spending, protecting this country, and at least being respectful about the social issues. You tell me, Allah. How many moderates fit that? Heck, I know “conservatives” who don’t fit that.

Exactly! But how is this statement by Pelosi:

“Yes, there is, shall we say – a ‘radical right-wing’ element with whom they identify. But by and large, I say to Republicans in America: take back your party. The party of protecting the environment. The party of individual rights. The party of fairness. This is not the Grand Old Party.”

Different from what Frum says, Ms. Mcain, Sen. McCain, Sen. Graham, Snowe, Proud Rino et al.? This is why I resist the calls from “our side”, because it is essentially the same as what Pelosi would desire for our party.

“There needs to be a party to demonize,” said Pelosi. “If there’s not a party to label as the idealogical devil, people are going to start realizing that the decline in urban America coincided with Democratic rule. They’ll also notice that the only party in power is the one with exploding deficits, higher taxes, and insane foreign policy decisions, and then the facade will be shattered. Let’s face it– Democrats are only going to be happy when this is a hard-core socialist Utopia born of the 1960s, and I don’t think the country is going to be none-to-happy with that. Unless there’s a strong GOP that can set up as the Boogeyman.”

Pelosi concluded her long riff about the GOP by saying, “our country needs a strong diverse Republican party.”

…this, coming from the Dragon Lady of the “Party of the Fairness Doctrine”, the Empress of the “Party of No Secret Ballots for Union Members”…or, as I like to call her, the Queen Bee of the “Party of Head Down/Butt Up/and Shut Up”! Can’t say that Ol’ Nancy doesn’t have nerve….

…first, you have Specter, as slippery as a greased lawyer, changing parties a’ la Jim Jeffords, to advance his agenda…which is nothing more or less than Arlen Specter, period….

…then we have the usual suspects (Snow, Collins, Graham) coming out crying alligator tears that a “moderate” (remember Lincoln Chaffee?) is made to feel unwelcome by the “radical right-wing” of the party…it would seem that, unlike these bozos, who believe in everything and nothing, just don’t rock to boat, the Republicans on the right are radical precisely because they actually have standards. You remember standards, don’t'cha neighbors? Standards remain immovable as circumstance swirls by, giving you a way of judging the right or wrong in what floats by as politcal and societal jetsum.

…and, now, advice from the Lady With The Fiberglass Smile. This is the unkindest cut of all.

Well…let Snow, Collins, Graham and anyone else who’s willing to compromise what the rest of us call core constitutional values (and which they call “guidelines”, a’ la Captain Barbosa) all bolt the party. Then…let those who remain know that the electorate expects them to shape up.

…Nancy Pelosi…she is to democracy what the Perons were…er…well…to democracy…except without the class….

I don’t see how else to put it except – it is almost becoming an embarrassment to be an American these days. Nancy doesn’t have a clue. She pals with lefties, she’s surrounded by lefties, she reads nothing but lefty literature. When she and her friends are finally thrown out on their asses for going too far, they’ll all have a surprised look on their faces and have only one question. “What?”

GarandFan on April 29, 2009 at 7:13 PM

I have no regard, nothing in common with this lunatic left woman.

She’s nothing to me.

Republicans should do everything possible to defeat and to destroy this witch. Any Republican who does not and who works with this scum of the earth idiot, needs to be thrown out of office.

Nancy Pelosi cares as much about the needs of Republicans in America as she does unborn children. (Or the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church for that matter.)

Which is about as much as she cares about accountability for Democratic corruption.

Which is to say, yeah not that much.

F*** you, Nancy.

bluelightbrigade on April 29, 2009 at 7:25 PM

Sometime in the distant future, when we least expect it, something actually intelligent sounding will come out of Nancy Pelosi’s mouth. Until then, she is a blithering idiot.

Most powerful woman in Washington? HA!

Really? Silly bitch, I hadn’t noticed.

Seeing that face is a grim reminder that I should have invested heavily in botox.
