It’s on: Obama takes shot at tea parties; Update: Video added
posted at 1:11 pm on April 29, 2009 by Allahpundit
If, as ABC claimed, he was “unaware” of the parties before, he’s not anymore.
Asked about fiscal discipline and entitlements reform, Obama seemed to be repressing a smile as he jabbed critics of his spending plans.
“Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I’m not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, Obama said, “let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.”
“But,” Obama continued, “let’s not play games and pretend that the reason [for the deficit] is because of the Recovery Act.”
He’s right. It’s not the stimulus that’s going to cripple the economy. As Jay Cost noted yesterday, it’s the stimulus and the bank bailouts and the Big Three rescue and health care and increased education spending and an energy overhaul and the rest of whatever he’s got planned for Great Society II, all at the same time. Even so, emphasizing Fox News’s sponsorship of the parties is a shrewd move on Obama’s part. CK MacLeod warned us the day before the protests how that could backfire; the more corporate and partisan Obama can make the parties seem, the easier they are to discredit.
Here’s a dynamite YouTube demonstration making the rounds this morning that’ll illustrate just how serious The One is about that “serious conversation” he mentions. “I won”: Conversation over.
Update: The clip. Let’s reform government intelligently, not with … teabags.

Like most of your definitions, they have evolved to fit a new reality.
Unfortunately that reality can’t be found in any known dimension.

scalleywag on April 29, 2009 at 3:51 PM
It’s actually survival of the best adapted and apparently “best adapted” in this context means, “willing to ignore any aspect of reality that doesn’t fit my worldview” with a side order of “when in doubt, be snarky”. Any society founded on that weak a foundation could easily be conquered by even a country like Mexico (yeah, I know, but I’m talking militarily, not just by stealth invasion. At that point the Mexicans wouldn’t even have to be stealthy about it).
If that’s the essentials of Stewart’s memes, I predict a swift end for this country once the “chaff” become a majority. As others have pointed out, by the way, way to imply that non-whites need big daddy government to run their lives. It’s funny, because there have always been a small number of rich people and a large number of middle-class and poor people in this country, but, you’re right, when those middle-class and poor people were primarily white, I don’t recall a huge surge in the popularity of socialism. Most of those people just said, “So long as those rich guys don’t get in my way, some day I can be well-off, too.” Horatio Alger-type mentality vs. entitlement mentality.
Let’s face it, Stewart’s “memes” only seem intelligent to decadent caucasians who have come to the realization that even compared to their parents’ relatively limited achievements, never mind the achievements of people like the Founding Fathers, they don’t measure up. Defensiveness is an ugly, ugly thing, and Stewart’s fans personify it in spades.

What is sad about Obama’s “I won” attitude, is that he still has to represent the people who did not vote for him. And after these tea parties, he has to realize that some of those in attendance are people who voted for him and are now unhappy that they did. So instead of mocking the tea party folks and the right leaning folks, how about addressing their issues.

Now that Glenn Beck has wisely jumped off the sinking Communist News Network ship and joined the Fox News Channel armada, I’m waiting to see how long it will take Rick Santelli to jump off the foundering CNBC plague ship and join Fox too.
Rick has a lot of guts. He knew he was working for a gang of anti-free speech thugs (NBC Corp) and yet had the balls to start the Tea Party Movement on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, while he was broadcasting over NMBC’s airwaves. LMFAO @ NBC

Here is proof that the environmental activists, the White House, Congress, and the EPA, are all connected. It is a story that ran on BBC Night News. At about 5 min. in, the reporter arrives at a convention for enviro. activists. The head of the EPA, some Congressmen, and some of O’s people are all giving speeches (on behalf of Obama), teaching civil disobedince, and actively recruiting these activists. Their goal is to use them to help push through cap and trade.

I swear if this arrogant fool thought he could get away with it, he’d ask the 54% million who voted for him to close their eyes for a moment and then he’d flip the rest of us off.
I never, not one time saw Bush appear disrespectful to those who didn’t support his ideas.
anniekc on April 29, 2009 at 5:55 PM
I never heard Bush attack anti war demonstrators. Even when Cindy Sheehan was stalking him, he did not attack a private citizen.
But Obama, Mr. Post Partisan himself really gets off going after private citizens. Anyone who does not kiss his behind is obviously on his list of people to be snarky about.
As for the whole thing about Fox, that is so absurd. CNN attacks these Tea Parties, msnbc largely ignores them and somehow Fox is supposedly sponsoring them just because they report on them. Well, what about all the local papers and TV stations across the country that report on these gatherings, are they out to get Obama too?
He looks petty and vindictive and once again unpresidential.
Terrye on April 29, 2009 at 5:59 PM

These honest, hard-working Americans are being called “Tea Baggers” by so-called journalists, a term associated with some obscure homosexual practices, and we’re supposed to accept that ridicule without comment?
Bullsh*t!
Let me be clear: if we’re going to be mocked as “Tea Baggers” by the Anderson Coopers and the rest of the Obamunistas, we have the right to label these dimwit opponents as Douche Baggers

We need more tea parties, but less “anti-Obama” rhetoric at them. It needs to be clear that they’re a protest against ALL big government politicians who support bailouts, stimulus, increasing debt, etc. The signs that bash Obama (while justified) give the Democrats an easy way to dismiss the entire tea party as just partisan rhetoric.

To his credit, Obama noted Pakistan’s importance.
Then he got all the solutions wrong.
Start with his inane — but touchingly American — statement that “the people of Pakistan want the same things we want.” Oh, really?
How many readers think Sharia law would be a good idea? How about beating the crap out of women just for yuks? Or stoning them to death because they smiled at the wrong time? And let’s ban alcohol, bare arms, dating and jobs for women. And grow those beards, fellas!
Yeah, we’re tight. We’re such good buds that, while the Pakistanis protect the worst elements within the Taliban, manipulate our key supply line and pander to terrorists, Obama wants to guarantee Pakistan’s stunningly corrupt politicians $1.5 billion in aid every year. Plus military aid.
Why on earth should the Pakistanis help us when we reward them lavishly for screwing us?
And since it’s still our policy to punish those who aid terrorists, we need to punish ourselves. We bear a portion of the responsibility for every Pakistan-backed terror attack on India. Why? Because the Pakistanis know that, no matter how brutal the deeds of their terrorist auxiliaries, we’ll step in to “mediate” and prevent the Indians from retaliating.
Want a truly fresh strategy that would work? End all support of any kind to Pakistan. Close our embassy. Do what makes military sense and reduce our forces in Afghanistan to a level that can be supplied by air. And concentrate on destroying al Qaeda, not on “owning” village X. (Obama’s approach just stinks of Vietnam.)
Imagine how different the situation would be if we weren’t Pakistan’s strategic prisoner and didn’t stand between Islamabad and Delhi. What if the Pakistanis had to behave responsibly and stop sponsoring terror attacks against India — or face India’s wrath? Nuclear war? Pakistan would vanish, India would lick its wounds. And the Pakistanis know it.
