It’s on: Obama takes shot at tea parties; Update: Video added
posted at 1:11 pm on April 29, 2009 by Allahpundit
If, as ABC claimed, he was “unaware” of the parties before, he’s not anymore.
Asked about fiscal discipline and entitlements reform, Obama seemed to be repressing a smile as he jabbed critics of his spending plans.
“Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I’m not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, Obama said, “let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.”
“But,” Obama continued, “let’s not play games and pretend that the reason [for the deficit] is because of the Recovery Act.”
He’s right. It’s not the stimulus that’s going to cripple the economy. As Jay Cost noted yesterday, it’s the stimulus and the bank bailouts and the Big Three rescue and health care and increased education spending and an energy overhaul and the rest of whatever he’s got planned for Great Society II, all at the same time. Even so, emphasizing Fox News’s sponsorship of the parties is a shrewd move on Obama’s part. CK MacLeod warned us the day before the protests how that could backfire; the more corporate and partisan Obama can make the parties seem, the easier they are to discredit.
Here’s a dynamite YouTube demonstration making the rounds this morning that’ll illustrate just how serious The One is about that “serious conversation” he mentions. “I won”: Conversation over.
Update: The clip. Let’s reform government intelligently, not with … teabags.

What is your definition of evolution? If it is becoming more like them, no thank you. What would be the point?
Evolve to fit your redefined niche.

You really are a lying scumbag, Barry. But did you think we forgot about the trillion dollar “stimulus” (government growth) package already? Or the pork-laden $1.5 trillion dollar deficit in the latest budget? Or the insane taxes you propose with your cap and trade?
So, from the team who didn’t have enough brains to realize that a low flying jet with chaser fighters would scare the hell out of NYC, ideas about “fixing” health care and Social Security? Yeah, right..

canditaylor68 on April 29, 2009 at 2:47 PM
Strangey – first you need to know that you exist here only under our sufferance. Since we are conservatives who were raised to be polite, we tolerate your ass-swill only until you become impolite and then you get UnPersoned for eternity.
In contrast, over on the leftist Hate-America websites, which include all opinion sections of MSM websites, conservatives and Republicans routinely get banned, booted off and poofed anytime they express a view that is the teensiest bit contrary to their warped worldview, no matter how tactfully and politely it was expressed.
That said, many of us don’t believe in evolution. Rather, we believe in Creationism, Intelligent Design or Longview Creationism (where God created the Earth in 6 days is really 6 billion years. To Him, a billion of our years is only a day.) Regardless, we are all certain that a Higher Power created us and our beautiful planet. So if you ever put down the crack pipe, maybe your brain can evolve into a larger, more intelligent worldview.
Catch-All
CatchAll on April 29, 2009 at 2:48 PM
The thing about Obama’s relationship with the public that fascinates me is that he’s got these relatively tepid approval numbers, compared to previous presidents at the 100-day mark, and so far the public hasn’t experienced the full effects of his policies yet. Right now, he’s still the totally awesome dude on TV that keeps promising everything to everyone, absolutely free of charge, with his most embarrassing mistakes and failures gang-tackled and buried by loyal “journalists”… and he still can’t manage the soaring approval numbers the media keep trying to manufacture for him.
He’s spending the end of the honeymoon bleating about the tea parties… and this is as good as it gets for him. He’s sailing past the extreme outer edge of the “blame everything on Bush” envelope, the opposition is going to begin organizing, and those titanic deficits are going to start collapsing into black holes. The enemies of America have taken his measure and found a soft target they have every reason to believe they can take advantage of. He’s finally responsible for an epic blunder the media can’t bury, because it went screaming over the New York skyline at a thousand feet. The public is about to find itself shackled to an auto industry that’s going overboard into very deep water. Even if Obama wasn’t a comprehensive disaster as a president, he’d still have the natural tidal pull of an electorate drawing back from one-party rule, and one of the Democrats’ most reliable fig leaves of “bipartisanship” no longer has any political cover to sell, because he switched parties. There are very few good things that could happen for Obama in the next eighteen months, and a great deal of bad things are becoming increasingly likely.
I’d guess this scapegoating and hate-mongering will intensify tremendously in the coming weeks. Socialism always needs scapegoats, because it needs people with resources to feed off of, and those people will inevitably object to being used as revenue targets. Collectivism can never sustain itself for very long on anything except bitter envy and hatred – the dependency class must never begin to think its demands are immoral, or wonder why it’s fair to suck one group of people dry and hand the money over to another group. As more and more people are forced to pony up, more of the “beneficiaries” begin to reach the limits of their consciences, coupled with the deflating economic balloon caused by the destruction of wealth – most people lose their appetite for “soak the rich” rhetoric when the rich guy who employs them announces he needs to shut the business down.
Socialism always requires coercion – if this were not the case, socialist utopias would spring into existence naturally. Coercion requires manpower. Knowing what lies ahead, it’s not surprising that America’s socialist President believes he needs to start recruiting that manpower now.

Given that protests can be ignored, the next step will have to be a way of legally interrupting the Statists revenue stream.
Ayn Rand had it correct, the only way the Statists can survive is if they can buy the votes of the Dumb Masses.
As long as zero and the rest of the Statists can pretend to be Santa Claus with money forcibly seized from the producers and achievers, they can remain popular enough to hold onto their power.
The achievers and producers will eventually wind down their efforts as they are punished for the very act of supporting the economy.
But a gradual decline will let the Statists hold onto their power – at least until in all falls apart or WW III starts – whichever comes first.
My only point is that there HAS to be a way of stopping this before it goes too far.

You again. Still waiting on those responses. Anywhoo..
Partisan? Compared to most political gatherings, no. Compared to the center? Yes. Ok, I can buy that.
But corporate?
Certainly there was some higher-level organization (do you REALLY think those Anti-War protests a few years back were all 100% grassroots?), but the official organization was minimum. Trust me when I say I would have CERTAINLY appreciated “Corporate” aid in getting these things off the ground, but apparently the shadowy Corporate conspiracy never bothered to pull its weight.
Perhaps because they were all too busy donating to the Dems?
Hardly. As your compardes learned during Vietnam and the current conflict, protests get the word out- show the flag off, so to speak- and attract attention that they would otherwise not have had. In addition, they help lay the foundation for future organization and protests.
And suddenly that “Shrinking hardright core” ceases to shrink and starts to grow.
You would come of as more genuine is you didn’t sneer at us for 3/4s of your rants.
1. Contrary to popular belief, there was a considerable amount of Rightwing groundswell against Bush, and a quick run through memory lane on the internet will readily show that. Conservatives didn’t shut up and take it with things like the “Minutemen comment” and Amnesty. However, while that is so, we often chose the lesser of two evils- or more accurately, the flawed over the flawed, misguided, and often malicious-which brings me to my next point.
2. Yes, Bush did sell many aspects of Conservatism up the river with his “Compassionate Conservatism.” However, he did so out of his own genuine beliefs, and not wind-twisting like Clinton and Obama. In addition, Bush might have betrayed several Conservative ideals, but he was the greatest standard-bearer for many of them. He kept the US safe, cut taxes against strong opposition, and did not waver to puplic opinion in wartime. To call this things “trashing Conservative ideals” is foolish.
So what was the Reagan Revolution? Or the Ginrichian Revolution of 1994?
Saying does not equal being.
And somehow you think these seasonal changes mark decisive turning events simply because? While future events MAY make them a decisive turning point, history shows that the extinction of an entire ideology or political party usually happens with vastly more drama and is usually vastly more decisive. This? This is like Carter’s election or LBJ’s in scope. It isn’t anything unprecedented.
And pray tell me what do you think the Tea Parties were?
Pseudo-Scientific blather aside, you fail to realize that such a party would most likely be composed of Conservatives who left the GOP and thus would include most of us? Most of us identify with our Conservatism over our Republican party, and you fail to note that.
And we are. Just because you cannot see it does not mean anything more than you have blinders on.
Au contraire, he was. Just of a slightly less preferable brand.
Pseudoscientific ranting does not change the fact that there is still a niche for a Conservative party, as the Tea Parties showed. If the constant slander of Bush did destory anything more than the slanderer’s integrity, it was the GOP, not the Conservative movement.
Not really, unless you think something dating back to the 19th century is “New.” Obama was just a standardbearer for an old ideology that has happened to attract the majority of the voters in the last election.
You yell at us about fighting or perishing, and yet you do not count nation-wide protests as fighting?
????
Sorry, but it is almost impossible for any truely Democratic nation to have a “single party.” Even if the Conservative movement were to peter out like you are boasting, do all the ex-Conservatives drop off the face of the Earth or emigrate? No. They go elsewhere, thus fueling that movement.
Nice scare-taunt, though.
Perhaps.
Are you comparing your pathetic debating strategy to the dodo bird?
If so, please do not. It is an insult to the bird.
The irony of this coming from someone who never proves their own blather is sickening.
Even so, you are missing a crucial point: to what degree was this responsible for the Tea Parties?
I think you will find that the majority was organized from the bottom up, and was not astroturfed.
Even ignoring the disillusioned or irritated Demos and Libs who came, did the distinctly Partisan nature of the Anti-War rallies discredit them?
And your point? Do you have any?
Any evidence? Any proof?
No?
Didn’t think so.
I await a response.

I have an idea on how to cut health care costs and stabilize social security without turning the U.S. into a Socialist country. How about we enact Tort reform for starters and stop paying out benefits to illegal aliens. We could control our border and then work to balance our budget by cutting back social spending and Government.

How quickly those on the Left forget their own adages:
First ‘Post-Partisan’ President gets first Post-Partisan political movement against his policies and he falls into the exact, same trap that the Left harps about for those they resist… yes the Left tried to ignore the Tea Parties.
Then they try to laugh at them.
I await the next devolution of the Leftists ‘Post-Partisanship’ into the standard power-play tactics by those in power. It will be most fun.

I’ll reconsider my thought if you can adequately explain how a non-Conservative could have said the following:
Meet the Press, November 21, 1999: Tim Russert had asked Bush, “Which Supreme Court justice do you really respect?” He replied, “Well, that’s―Antonin Scalia is one. He’s an intellect. The reason I like him so much is I got to know him here in Austin when he came down. He’s witty. He’s interesting. He’s firm. There’s a lot of reasons why I like Judge Scalia. And I like a lot of the other judges as well. I mean, it’s kind of a harsh question to ask because it now pits me―some of whom are friends of mine. I mean, it’s―and so in all due respect, Judge Thomas and…” Russert asked, “Do you believe Clarence Thomas was the most qualified man in the country for the Supreme Court?” Bush replied, “I do, and I think he’s proven my dad correct.”
I share a lot of the same issues with Bush that you and many others of us do, but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater in anger and haste. Bush wasn’t a perfect Conservative, but how many people do you know who are? Heck, anyone who supports the ‘War on Drugs’ isn’t acting like a true Conservative, but that doesn’t mean they are necessarily a raging Leftist – it only means that s/he is carrying on like one.

I have a question that is a little off topic. Maybe someone can answer it?
The question is: Has anyone seen a website or anything related to the Tea Parties that is actually recording the number of people that support the Tea Parties?
I keep seeing the MSM and WH (same thing)downplaying the number of people who support the Tea Parties. I don’t think the number of people physically at the Tea Parties is actually the same as the amount of people that support them. I would say just based on the people that I deal with through my work that the real number of supporters would be well into the millions. I could not attend because I had to work as did many other people I know who support the Parties.
I am asking because I think the “Real” numbers on who supports the Tea Parties would come as quite a shock to Barry and the crew!

Thanks. It gives me hope, though. They’re showing their hand (democrats & republicans), and reinforces my opinion. Divide and rule by creating divisive issues, that’s the ONLY thing they know. Look at strangelet.
If we can focus on one issue (tax reduction and TOTAL number of taxes REDUCED), we’re good to go.

And I don’t care if Obama was born here or not.

Here we have a light intellect coupled with a megalomania of Maoist proportions, an abject failure at anything he tried and a fundamentally corrupt individual of the Chicago persuasion. The continual gaffes and flip-flops are the hallmarks of someone listening to distant masters. The selection of an ill-bred Joe Biden as Vice-President is the result of a compromise between Obama’s handlers. His multi-TRILLION dollar budget is straight out of Marx and tailors by someone with a Bill Ayers intellect and Maoist principles. If anyone has any remaining questions Barack Hussein Obama is an empty-suited puppet, please consider your membership in the American conservative movement null and void.
