It’s on: Obama takes shot at tea parties; Update: Video added
posted at 1:11 pm on April 29, 2009 by Allahpundit
If, as ABC claimed, he was “unaware” of the parties before, he’s not anymore.
Asked about fiscal discipline and entitlements reform, Obama seemed to be repressing a smile as he jabbed critics of his spending plans.
“Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I’m not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, Obama said, “let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.”
“But,” Obama continued, “let’s not play games and pretend that the reason [for the deficit] is because of the Recovery Act.”
He’s right. It’s not the stimulus that’s going to cripple the economy. As Jay Cost noted yesterday, it’s the stimulus and the bank bailouts and the Big Three rescue and health care and increased education spending and an energy overhaul and the rest of whatever he’s got planned for Great Society II, all at the same time. Even so, emphasizing Fox News’s sponsorship of the parties is a shrewd move on Obama’s part. CK MacLeod warned us the day before the protests how that could backfire; the more corporate and partisan Obama can make the parties seem, the easier they are to discredit.
Here’s a dynamite YouTube demonstration making the rounds this morning that’ll illustrate just how serious The One is about that “serious conversation” he mentions. “I won”: Conversation over.
Update: The clip. Let’s reform government intelligently, not with … teabags.

I’d be glad to have that conversation with you Obama. . . so long as you aren’t intent on demonizing everyone who disagrees with you. So long as you are willing to appreciate the role that insurance companies play in keeping the costs of health care down.
So long as your rhetoric doesn’t equate ‘health care’ with ‘health insurance’. So long as your rhetoric includes the understanding that anyone who is sick in this country (legal or illegal) can go to the emergency room and be cared for.
We don’t have a crisis in health care in this country. It costs too much. But government control will not keep COSTS down. As long as the debate is about COSTS of health care, I’ll be happily on your team to determine what can be done to make the distribution of health care in this country more efficient.

And after you lay out your plan, he will smile that smile that he does when he wants you to eat sh*t and he will tell you, “I won.”
…..In other news, at least we won’t have to see the illegal aliens march in the streets on May 1st to demand their ‘rights’. This “Southern Pork Contingency” will save us from that.

You know, the constant shots at Fox are getting to be ridiculous. “They “don’t like him”. Boo hoo. The rest of the media has an orgasm over everything you do, but that isn’t good enough. The man’s hubris knows no bounds.

Wonderful video but it will never convince the Cult of Obama. Does it surprise anyone that Obama is annoyed by the tea party crowd? Look at the way he is annoyed by questions – real questions from the media (when they are not screened in advance). He gets angry when anyone questions him. This is why the dems want to close down Fox and have a news media similar to Obama’s hero Hugo.

Oh, so NOW he’s aware of them when he wants to attack them?
It took Team Barry that long to come up with an attack on those he perceives as a threat to his era of Hope-n-Change? And the best they could do is…to bash Fox News?
Who writes his material – Susan Rosegen?
We’ll have to remind him again on July 4. Maybe he’ll pay attention this time.

As the leader of a nation facing multiple crises at the moment, Obama is focusing on the queerest things. Like his media coverage, show trials for his political opponents, etc.
I think the guy is erratic, and that’s something you usually don’t see until the declining days of a dictator.
Keep an eye on this clown.
jeff_from_mpls on April 29, 2009 at 1:22 PM
This is a grave miscalculation on Obama’s part.

That’s his Achilles Heal, so to speak… BHO cannot stand the fact that there are those that do not bow before him… hubris indeed. He will pursue anything to be sure all in the land love him, to his significant failure. Sort of like lining every wall in the White House with mirrors to reflect the goodness of the one; Napolean Complex magnified by an order of magnitude.
IntheNet on April 29, 2009 at 1:23 PM
There’s nothing really statesman-like about that statement. Once again its more whining about Fox not showering him with adulation, then a very much dismissive tone toward those who disagree with his spending. The ego, the idea that he can’t be questioned, its really striking.

Ed, only a partisan, like Obama, can make the tea parties, partisan. It’s weak, and he should be ashamed, as President. It’s clear what he expects from the citizens. We are all to adore him, and never say a word against him. He’s a tool, and the sooner he grows some, the better off he’ll be.

I walked by a California Young Democrats event at the convention center last week. I was, of course, assaulted by literature and attempts to sell me on ideas or candidates. All the usual suspects were there; even the LaRouche kooks came out, which was fun. Equal opportunity offenders they are. Some Gavin Newsom supporters were blocking the crosswalk signs, which was sorta funny.
At any rate, I overheard a lot of hushed chatter about the tea parties. They were actually scared. There was talk about tax rebellion and violence. Truly bizarre. Obviously they hadn’t seen the event, but I really can’t take our lefty trolls seriously when they talk about how hilariously outrageously hysterical they find the “teabaggers.”

“certain news channels on which I’m not very popular”. Make that singular, “news channel”, and distinguish that from the 95% of news channels that threw the election for you and wipe your ass with their sleeves after you take a dump.

Babino on April 29, 2009 at 1:28 PM
Might have been true 10-15 days ago if he had made an issue of it. Bringing it up now, when both the public and the media have moved on to swine flu and new auto company bailout plans, it’s like complaining that the refs should have rule Kurt Warner’s fumble at the end of the Super Bowl as an incompletion — an argument too far after the fact for all but the most partisan supporters to care about (Obama’s comments today could be considered a preemptive strike against the July 4 tax protests, but trying to push that 70 days out and keep it in the public eye is something even Team Obama can’t pull off).

It’s one thing to demonize other pols or public figures, quite something else when the target is viewers of popular news channels and other constituents.
I attended a non-political class with about 25 total strangers this week and there was laughter over individuals being proud rightwing extremists. Now the scorn I’m hearing from friends who are generally non-political is about the terrorization of NYC By Air Force 1. Grassroots scorn is a dangerous thing for pols, but pols need to be adults to earn respect.
Personally, I hope that he allows his contempt for his constituents to show openly and frequently.

Pardonme but it seems to be more clear all the time that Soros, Podesta and Obama have a clear picture of what they want to do. Look back in history and you will see that people have been energized to revolt and rise up. Now look at today with increasing foreclosures, unemployment, bank problems and the UAW taking 39% ownership in GM while the common person is being squeezed to the point that something has to give. We even see gun stores running out of inventory by those arming themselves; again we see the possibility of revolt and worse. We see the government under Obama setting up its forces to make this into a real fight using ACORN, the unions and perhaps even the military through rumored special forces being set up to “defend” within the country. The boarders don’t close during the flu scare but people are told to close the schools???? Air Force One scares the wits out of people and the government knew it would???? More businesses are being taken over and staffed by the government???? What’s next????
