This is only the latest example of Obama's use of the EPA for the furtherance of his agenda. Since January, the EPA has been revoking and denying permits for coal-related activities as a matter of course.

Of course, the outlook for new coal-fired power plants will only get worse in light of the EPA's recent CO2 "finding," but it's not just the coal-fired power plants he's targeting. It is also the mining operations. The EPA is rescinding or denying permits for mining operations in wholesale fashion.

The idiot UMWA supported Obama, of course.

These fools in DC. You can't shutdown the fossil fuel power generation facilities and then when you find that your green sources will not meet the demand, somehow resurrect the fossil power industry. Uncertainty was a partial cause of the depth of the Great Depression and these fools have learned nothing. If they think that the government can pick up there slack, well the recent flyover of NYC shows how competent they are in just the simplest of matters. And the more complex; well we can't even get on quickly with nuclear power and off shore drilling. Yep, we're in good hands with the same type of government idiots running things who for over 30 years have talked about energy independence as we sunk into more dependence on foreign sources; even electrical power from Canada.

Now onward to rationed health care for the masses to cure our health care system.

The CA equivalent of the Public Utilities Commission shut down the $1.2 billion dollar project to make those two old coal fired units meet the 2005 emission standards and become more efficient. Since the power was to go to CA, they had a say in the project funding. so the two units had to shutdown. I was to run the project's power plant modification aspect. There was also to be a new coal mine and pipeline to service the facility, with spending above the $1.2 billion for the facility modifications. Now as to why the PUC wouldn't approve the project, since we meet the new standards in the design with all of the necessary equipment, I was never informed. We had scrubbers and baghouses in the design, from my memory, and our company had instlled them in many other earlier designs. IMHO, it was environmental politics since I have seen worthwhile projects stopped before such as the refinery in north central CA where after 5 years of hassle it was canceled in the US and built in Indonesia.

And a little irony was involved since my next and last job before retirement was being a major player in the testing of one time use only, newly designed equipment and the overseeing of operations for the destruction of mustard agent under the Dept of Army. Hey, when they shutdown private industry, there will always be a government job. (sarcasm/off)

Take care and be safe

California's already been having problems with power rationing, brownouts, rolling blackouts. What are they expected to do, use hamsters in exercise wheels for their power? Oh well, both California and NM went for Obama in the election. I don't want to hear them snivel when everything in the fridge and freezer goes bad because their power went out.

All the Navaho's need to do is put up a wind farm or a bunch of solar panels. Uhhhhbama's going to run the country on sunshine and breezes, so they'll be on the ground floor for the coming boom of green jobs.

This is a huge deal to the Navajo, especially since Southern California Edison shut down their electrical generating plant in Laughlin because EPA wanted scrubbers... they bought all their coal from the reservation and the Navajo had spent a great deal of money developing their facilities to provide to coal, it was one of the few good paying jobs available to the Navajo... Shirley fell for the democratic promises hook line and sinker -- from what I can see -- and the Navajo helped elect Obama in New Mexico as well as Udall and the woman who replaced Renzi in Flagstaff... the GOP needs to jump into the middle of this frey... heck, McCain totally blew it when that tape sat unnoticed for months and months and even then when it came out the Sunday before we all voted he was mute.....

I am so excited about the idea of mythical power. Is that like burning unicorn poo in your car, or something?

But on a side note, I wonder how many of these Navajo's voted for BHO. Bet they are changing their minds now.

I think conservatives, or just plain on sane people, should start suing the government, like people did with FDR. They won't have a chance in hell to win with the SCOTUS once the elderly leave and Obama appoints radicals.

I stayed on the Navajo Indian reservation for a week a few years back. The place was an absolute wreck. The streets were in the worst shape I have ever seen in any American community. Gang members were rampant in the area (they wore all black so they were easy to identify). There were no good jobs in the area (the guy's house we were painting supported his family by working at Denny's). We would drive around the community's in buses shouting "church time" and the kids would flood the buses to go play games and learn at church. Apparently they had nothing else to do, so they were bursting at the seams to go do something fun. Many (if not most) of the people were alcoholics. It was a deplorable area. Which is what makes B.O.'s policy that much more devastating. If there were good jobs for them, they wouldn't need to live in such disparity.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Liberals aren’t going to be happy until everyone’s living in grass huts or caves again in access controled mega-cities and buffalo roam freely everywhere in their historic range. They hate you everyone including themselves!

Fixed.

“I don’t think anyone ever imagined that the new team at EPA would seem to have such little regard for due process or basic notions of fairness"

uh, I didn't just imagine it, I knew it.

And hundreds of posters on this site knew it too.

Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley said in a statement the decision was further proof that the U.S. government isn’t “honest and truthful in its dealings with Native America.” Shirley said that the EPA withdrawal of the permit will harm the Navajo people.

Good grief, the US Gov't isn't honest in its dealings with the rest of the US, so this is no surprise. By the time Obama and Co. are finished, America will be a third-world banana republic.
