Video: TOTUS betrays POTUS again

From this morning’s address to the National Academy of Science, in which The One continued his relentless jackass demagoguery of people who disagree with him about particular scientific policies. Says Jay Cost:

Who the hell is saying we cannot afford to invest in science? Isn’t the real argument about whether we can spend so much more (fully 3% of GDP) on science, and revitalize the economy, and save the banks, and save the Big Three, and spend more on education, and reform health care, and revolutionize the energy sector all at the same time?…

What is especially annoying to me is that – to win what amounts to a few quick, short-term political points – the President is really hitting below the belt. Those who are opposed to federal funding of stem cell research are somehow un-American: they are against “free and open inquiry,” and are willing to undermine “scientific integrity” and “our democracy.” Why? In service to “a pre-determined ideological agenda.”…

I am sick and tired of the President’s rhetorical sophistry – and if Frank Newport’s employee called me up today, I would say that I disapprove of the job he is doing. If Scott Rasmussen’s robot called me, I’d say that I strongly disapprove. A President should not be mischaracterizing, and working actively to alienate, fully 40% of his consistency – especially after he promised he wouldn’t.

Perhaps in quiet agreement with Cost’s take, TOTUS decided to take a little break mid-sentence during the speech. I’m tempted to say that it’s Obama himself who’s at fault and that TOTUS, being a good soldier, is merely taking the rap, but we know better than that. After all, he has a gift, Harry.

He is not scoring points, he is validating the world view of the left and the “reality based community” Mr. Cost is failing to realize it takes one more vote then the other guy to win. What Cost calls scoring points is actually stroking the base.

Why can’t he at least have a back up right in front of him on paper?

It’s not like he’s ever looking straight into damn camera anyway.

Which staffer got tossed under the bus for the ‘prompter mishap? Obowa didn’t like that one bit.

his relentless jackass demagoguery

Thank you for calling it exactly what it is and Cost’s comments are also spot on.

The TOTUS breakdown once again exposed Obama for the fool that he is…another for the long “if GWB had done this” (not only relied on a teleprompter at even the most ordinary of events but clearly reading it without instantaneous recognition of what he’s saying) list.

But the demagoguery is becoming unbearable—if only more citizens would reject the hate he’s selling.

If one is going to pay people to write the words you speak, it would seem the lest one could do is memorize a few of them…

Obviously some people didn’t learn. Blame the TOTUS… but it is only you who can’t get it right.

W/o teleprompter:

What they’ll say is, “Well it costs too much money,” but you know what? It would cost, about… It — it — it would cost about the same as what we would spend… It… Over the course of 10 years it would cost what it would costs us… (nervous laugh) All right. Okay. We’re going to… It… It would cost us about the same as it would cost for about — hold on one second. I can’t hear myself. But I’m glad you’re fired up, though. I’m glad.

Everybody knows that it makes no sense that you send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma, they end up taking up a hospital bed, it costs, when, if you, they just gave, you gave them treatment early and they got some treatment, and a, a breathalyzer, or inhalator, not a breathalyzer. (crowd laughing) I haven’t had much sleep in the last 48 hours.

I don’t have a problem with them using the original embryonic stem cells…those are no longer viable anyway.

But, the morality of using fertility treatments that produce ‘extra’ embryos should be looked at in more depth.

As soon as I wrote that, I remembered Roe v. Wade…so never mind.

Further, due to advances in medicine the standard of viability outside the womb of Roe v. Wade back in 1973 is no longer valid and should be re-examined.

Yahoo search engine-
3,210,000 for Bush teleprompter (8 years)
5,180,000 for Obama teleprompter(less than 100 days)

I rest my case.

I said it in the headline this morning and i’ll say it again, the sheeple and the MSM do not care they will not let TOTUS fail (even though the equipment does frequently lol). The 70% personal and 55-60% job approvals bear that out.

This is good for laughs on our side, but it will take a lot more than this to bring down the Messiah.

Which, is a real sad state of affairs. Bush may have been a buffoon speaking at times, but at least he spoke off the cuff more than TOTUS. Palin’s prompter breaks down during her RNC speech and she ad-libed to a tee. TOTUS couldn’t ad-lib if his life depended on it. Instead he gets pissed at the machine.

Sad, really, sad….

Those who are opposed to federal funding of stem cell research are somehow un-American: they are against “free and open inquiry,” and are willing to undermine “scientific integrity” and “our democracy.” Why? In service to “a pre-determined ideological agenda.”…

They are by definition opposed to free and open inquiry. They begin by a declaring an infallible dogma that has no evidence to support it, and then operate within those arbitrary bounds. I’m sorry that the words “free and open inquiry” already have a meaning, and you can’t just take it to mean whatever you want. No. I’m not really sorry.

It absolutely undermines scientific integrity by the same reasoning. Now, one could argue certain scientific experiment might be immoral. Studying reactions of kids whose kidneys are removed without sedation would be a good example. Fine. It’s still an example of science trumped by other considerations.

Purely religious arguments should be ignored by scientists. This is immediately obvious when the religion in question involves Zeus and Poseidon. To most scientists, other religions deserve just as much respect. Yes, I get that stem cell research contradicts your religious worldview. You know what? You’ll get over it. Just like at some point Earch as a center of the Universe was important to people as it validated the significance of Creation etc. Religious people have learned to live with facts of astronomy. They’ll live with biology, too.

The GDP of the United States was $14.26 Trillion in 2008. If the Government spent 3% of that on research, that would be $428 BILLION, or about $1,400 per year per American. Can we really afford that, on top of the TARP and bailouts and Porkulus and maybe a little loose change to defend the nation?

Who would get such tremendous sums of money? Even at $100K per year, that would keep 4.3 Million scientists busy, without ANY private funding!

Barack Quix-Obama is tilting at some huge windmills here…

Steve Z on April 27, 2009 at 5:00 PM

Does anyone else think that Obama may not realize that the GDP isn’t his to spend? Maybe he looks at our budget, then looks at GDP. Then the budget. Then GDP.

Finally, he says, “wow, we’re bringing in SO much more money, we shoudl be spending this!”

Note to Obama: GDP stands for Gross Domestic Product. That means it includes all the private wealth created in this country. The Federal Budget is NOT equal to GDP, and in fact subtracts from GDP.

One sees it with used car salesmen, with those door-to-door encyclopaedia salesmen, even the venerable Fuller Brush man.

Start with a proposition…something nobody wants to say “no” to.

“So, you love your kids? You want them to get the best education possible? They aren’t being taught the basics in school, right? Their textbooks leave out so much vital information to help them become good students, good citizens, and intelligent children. You want that, right? Of course you do. You want to be seen as a good parent, right? You want to be a good parent, right?”

And so forth, until the money shot… “What I am offering today is the easiest and cheapest means you can find anywhere to provide for your kids that extra assist to bring them to the top of their class in every subject…for only $19.95 a month, the cost of a family dinner at Mickie D’s, I give you the New Funk and Wagnel’s desk top Encyclopaedia…”

And you sign on the dotted line, take out your checkbook…

And three years later when you find your kids have never ever opened a single volume, you sit there very unsatisfied that you spent $600 on $150 worth of books…and then it dawns on you.

The Chicago Hustle is now de rigeur at the White House.

name one president since the 1970’s who didn’t use a prompter. Yea I thought so

nice343 on April 27, 2009 at 4:35 PM

It isn’t a big deal that a President uses notes or a teleprompter when giving a speech. It is a big deal when a President use it for almost everything he says. I wonder if there is a teleprompter in the Obamas’ bedroom?

Deanna on April 27, 2009 at 5:08 PM

He didn’t use one at Ground Zero in New York, either.

hawksruleva on April 27, 2009 at 4:43 PM

I had forgotten how much the next 7-8 years aged him.

Even while introducing your own cabinet nominees? Are you serious?

anuts on April 27, 2009 at 5:10 PM

Jay Costs’ link to Rasmussen shows Obama’s “total disapproval” rate of 44%, with 53% approving. I do believe the magic is wearing off. Strangely, I keep hearing from the old media that Obama has a 69% approval rate; among Dems, perhaps.

You guyz should lurv meh.
I kicked Parkers ass in the comments here.

Please NOTE Ms. Parker, that your token “pro-life” psuedo-scientist did NOT refute EITHER of the two reasons I claim that it is neccessary to DO BOTH hASCR and hESCR.
Anti-scenescence therapy and disease modelling.
Would you like to play again?

strangelet on April 27, 2009 at 5:10 PM

The problem is that when TOTUS takes a break, Oblahma has to actually listen to himself. Even a narcissist can only take so much of his own droning before he puts himself to sleep. The actual science stuff is secondary to the love affair he has with the sound of his own voice. I have yet to meet a liberal who lets facts get in the way of a good piece of sophistry.

Obama is no “Great Communicator”

This moron can’t make a 30 second announcement without the help of a Teleprompter. Any interview is completed with a gazillion “hmms” and “uhhhs” interspersed with tired cliches and repetitive talking points.

Norwegian on April 27, 2009 at 5:12 PM

nice343 on April 27, 2009 at 4:35 PM

Obama uses the TOTUS at press conferences for goodness sakes.

The guy can’t make a cogent remark without it. Ever hear one of his interviews?

Uh, ummm, eh, urmmmm…

catmman on April 27, 2009 at 5:12 PM

Are you sure Bush never used a teleprompter?

nice343 on April 27, 2009 at 4:50 PM

Lack of reading skills FTW! I stated this was one instance of a president not using a teleprompter.

coyoterex on April 27, 2009 at 5:13 PM

Isn’t that sad? Could you imagine him addressing the nation from the White Mosque Hizzle during a national crisis, like another war, and have this happen?

What a tool!

madmonkphotog on April 27, 2009 at 5:13 PM

So my skeptical buddy at work (who is conservative, but has drunk a mild amount of kool-aid) says so what to TOTUS’s break down of prompter. He’s done countless interviews, been on all the Sunday shows, debated, etc etc….. So explain that!!

I tried my best, but he aint buyin it. Anybody got some other counter arguments I could use on him?

strangelet on April 27, 2009 at 5:10 PM

Maybe you attach blind loyalty to others over a single issue, but I never have.

Still, I don’t see you explaining why we need government money on this or why we should spend government money on things that violate religious freedom in this country.

Esthier on April 27, 2009 at 5:14 PM

Scientists are now coming back to the US like ex-pat Iraqis after the fall of Hussein.
Scientists pretty uniformly hated Bush for politicizing science.
Now you guyz will reap the whirlwind.

davek70 on April 27, 2009 at 5:13 PM

To get him to shut up…since conversion is not indicated… you could tell him you know where he lives and the first terrorist attack on the US will find you at his house, exacting more than a pound of flesh?

Told this to a couple of “pseudo-conservatives” who said they voted for Obama because he was so much more brilliant than McCain. They haven’t raised any political issues with me since.

nice343 on April 27, 2009 at 4:50 PM

Nice strawman, idiot.

The point is, is that Barry uses a teleprompter for every mundane speech he gives. It’s a crutch. Even moron bush did not require it for everything he did.

lorien1973 on April 27, 2009 at 5:20 PM

You see. The Precedent is the world’s fastest reader. He reads so quickly that even the TOTUS can’t keep up with him!

/leftist moron
