Dr. Frank Page has never voiced support for Obama during the election. He was asked by the President to serve on the council, all of this was after the election.

He's not some guy who's been out campaigning for Obama. He went into his service with both eyes open. Early on, he voiced concerns for being a token conservative.

Would you rather he not be on the council? That's a choice he made to attempt to be a positive influence in a place that he knew would be difficult.

He is not an idiot, but he is trying to be useful in standing up for Christian principles in a difficult situation.

Most of you are making comments and you have no idea his positions or his beliefs. Stop being like the left and attacking someone based on ignorance.

You can question if Page is going to have a positive impact or not, but you cannot assume that he is an Obama supporter or voter. He never said who he voted for (unlike liberal pastors), but from all indications he gave I would say that he did not vote for Obama.

This is no time for recriminations - we simply must recognize the times:

Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

If all we do to make things right comes to naught, just recognize these are the times God has prepared for the destruction of Babylon.

Mel Gibson swindled them out of half-a-billion…
mankai

Are you referring to the movie "Passion of the Christ"?
If so, how was that a swindle? Was it because a flawed human being made a powerfully moving film about Christ's torture and death? If Gibson had consciously lied or misled with the film, that would have been a swindle, but wouldn't Pope John Paul II have noticed and not said "It is as it was"?

Why do you think he voted for Obama? As the tax laws are set up a minster can not tell his church how they should vote. As a member of the Faith Council, Dr. Page does have a voice to the President. Dr. Page was my minster for several years. Dr Page has always been careful about how he speaks in public. He knows as a Minster of a large church and a past president of the SBC, his words have more impact than the average joe. For him, he is speaking very strong here and I would not be surprised if he leaves the Faith Council.

He is a perfect example of a watered down, lovey-dovey, "judge not" brand of evangelical Christianity today. Afraid to stand for what Christ and the bible said, instead hoping against hope that a "Great Man" can save the world.

Maybe I'm missing something, but where does it say he's an Obama supporter?

My understanding is that he's a member of the "faith council" Obama has brought together. Perhaps many of the members did endorse, vote for, or otherwise support Obama. I don't think all of them did, and I'd be surprised if Dr. Page did.

We can debate whether he should be on the council or not, but he isn't necessarily a supporter of Obama by participating.

Kmeic came out in support of Obama vocally. If Page did the same, I'd like to see a link/further info to verify the tone of this post is justified.

oops - part of my comment didn't make it.

one = won.

Dr.Page is like too many other Obama supporters - they heard and saw what they wanted to hear and see. They let themselves be used most likely because they fit in either the guilt or pride category.

The Catholic Church threatened their faithful with the possible loss of eternal hope and they still voted 55-45 for BHO.

Hope springs eternal… as apparently so does stupidity.

No they didn’t. That is what they didn’t do. And, that is partly why so many voted for him.

Tried to post this... thought I had... but I don't see it... so here it is again.

This reflects the teaching on "cooperation with evil" which the Vatican, too, has constantly linked to political votes (by RC candidates and by the RC voters).

The election results reveal the inherent danger of decades of raising (in rhetoric at least) the vague notions of such things as "social justice," "immigrant rights," "living wages" and "poverty" to the same level as murdering a child in its mother's womb.

This is true is any church which engages in this sort of rhetoric.

I know a number of devout, faithful, practicing Catholics who vote Democrat. In fact, historically, Catholics have heavily supported Democrats. How many nuns did we see at "peace" rallies over the last few years? Now, how many did we see at the Tea Parties? I swam against a Leftist stream as a Religious Education teacher (in two dioceses) who didn't want to teach a "Social Justice" section.

And there is always the general threat of "cooperation with evil." The above link concerns a bishop, but the Vatican has warned of the same thing. I know a number of devout, faithful, pro-Life Catholics who voted for Obama. This is not univerally damning... but in general... they were raised as I was in the RCC... to be "socially conscious" and issues such as "the poor" and "immigration" and "social justice" pricked their hearts to vote Democrat over the years.

This is the danger (in ALL churches) of placing vague notions such as "fair housing" and "living wages" on the same level with murdering children in the womb.

Did you see more nuns at the "Peace" rallies or at the tea parties?

As much as I criticize the obamabot voters for putting him there, I think he won more because McCain was a cardboard cutout of a conservative and THAT is the change they REALLY wanted.

Spiritk9 on April 27, 2009 at 11:31 PM

If McCain had been black, he would have won. It's as simple as that. He would have been a highly decorated black military veteran (unlike his opponent, who wanted to serve but didn't), with over twenty years of experience as a United States Senator (as opposed to his opponent's two years),

And I'd prefer a cutout cardboard conservative rather than a real Marxist in office any day.

To put it bluntly, if you stayed away and didn't vote for McCain, you deserve the President you have.

You are certainly correct, and we Catholics have our very own Judas in Doug Kmiec. He abandoned what principles he'd professed for years and swallowed the Obama "shuck and jive" hook, line, and sinker.

This individual is responsible for more of the very things he claims to abhor. He owes the unborn he claims to wish to protect an apology and he should step down from any "leadership" positions he holds. He is more lost than he can fathom.

athensboy: we could pick apart your post line by line. but one thing jumped out at me immediately.

who allowed anyone to die on a New Orleans rooftop during Katrina? surely not bush. he asked stupid blanco several times whether she wanted help. she & mayor nagin (both dems, i might add) said no. this was said several times immediately following the actual hit of the hurricane with dates & times of the phone calls from the White hOuse to blanco & nagin. i have often wondered why bush decided to take the blame for all of it (as if he conjured up the hurricane himself).

here i was, sitting in lunenburg county virginia watching katrina on The Weather Channel. I commented several times to my husband "i believe i would leave the area if i were them". duh.

Obama may be pro-choice but a republican president has no qualms about sending your son or daughter to fight and die in a war he lied to get us into and was totally unnecessary. I guess the pro-life people like to ignore that fact. Or the fact that a republican president would leave you to die on a rooftop in New Orleans. Or that a republican president would let you die because you can't afford health insurance. I guess all those ways of dying are all right with "christians". The gop is a party of snakes, they preach the sanctity of life under their terms. You can be a conservative as long as you follow our litmus test. no thanks

I think a lot of the squishy Christian voters who voted for Obama just didn’t have the backbone to be irrationally and unjustifiably called racists.

Well, they got what they voted for. And they can join squishy Germans who didn’t think it was a problem objecting to the Nazis.

Cowards, you’re tears are lost on me. Believe me, Obama is going to give you something really worth crying about.

BuckeyeSam on April 27, 2009 at 11:51 PM

I think this is true. It was really, really intense during the campaign. Emotions were high. It's already uncomfortable to be a true christian in this sick culture, let alone a republican. These people are to interested in the approval of man than the truth. I have no sympathy for that, specifically. They still will not admit that they... THEY made the mistake.

When religion stopped being about “doing good and being good” and started being about “feeling good and looking good”

You just nailed the reason why I’m a Christian without a church.

TheMightyMonarch on April 27, 2009 at 10:26 PM

I was too, for awhile. Until I realized doctrine MATTERS and though there is a plurality of churches, there might only be a true, God-exalting gathering in one city. It is important to GET INTO FELLOWSHIP, though...Christians aren't to be alone.

try 9Marks. It will tell you the marks of a true church and there is a church locator.
