Whoops: Attack on Obama in NY Post wrongly attributed to Palin

posted at 12:45 pm on April 26, 2009 by Allahpundit

Turns out last night’s quote of the day from Sarahcuda wasn’t a quote from Sarahcuda. It was written by Meghan Clyne, a fact the Post has now — very quietly — acknowledged by disappearing the original attribution. It did seem odd that a headline-grabbing attack on The One by Palin was buried inconspicuously inside a list of 100 items instead of being broken out into its own op-ed; now we know why. Hugely embarrassing for the Post, needless to say. I wonder how they blew it. Did someone forward them an e-mail with the quote from Clyne misattributed to Palin and they took it at face value?

Speaking of embarrassing attacks on Obama, feel free to use this thread to comment on Drudge knocking The One this morning for playing a round of golf while there’s a crisis somewhere, which isn’t the first time a dopey charge of circumstantial callousness has been dumped on him (or on Bush, of course). Exit question: Why does Obama hate people with the flu?

Caddying for Soros is hardly worth a thread.

justincase: Your theories reminded me of a Patricia Cornwell novel about how diverse people mysteriously began dying of smallpox, a disease considered to be wiped out. The method of transmission was one of those sample face misters delivered in the mail. To learn of the source of the scourge, you have to read the novel.

My memories The Stand are linked to my having a case of the flu at the same time I was reading the King novel. After I passed the book to my dad, he, too, came down with the flu. We both laughed about double-whammy of the experience.

I know Drudge is a conservative, and I’m not expecting his site to be C-SPAN, but has anybody noticed that pretty much all his political links are anti-Obama?

That is, as opposed to being a mix of that, neutral, and anti-other politicians?

lol. Things that make you go hmmm…

I don’t know what happened in Austria, and I don’t want to be a kook, but the timing set off alarms for me. Seems like the Austrian company got found out when some of the virus mix killed some gerbils in a Czech experiment in mid-February We’re told that the vaccines sent out were still safe. If Baxter just screwed up their protocols that would be the end of the story. If somebody there did it purposely and their plan was foiled by the Czechs (whose media, BTW, was wondering about a month ago if this was bioterrorism) what would they do next?

If they had the deadly bio-weapon already, the easiest way to get it to the USA – now that Napoltano is our homeland security head – is to send it through Mexico. Under Obama, Mexicans’ entrance to the USA is almost a protected right.

I have no way of knowing what really happened and will have to watch what happens now. But to hear the national security guy – whose employees accessed Obama’s passport files 3 times (once to find out what needed to be changed, once to lift the needed scans, and once to replace what needed to be changed?) in incients which the company wrote off as “idle curiosity” – say there is no evidence of bioterrorism doesn’t put me at ease at all.

athensboy on April 26, 2009 at 2:34 PM

LOL! Online Daily Kos polls don’t count.

Oh, you mean that new ABC/WaPo “poll”? It got that result by oversampling Democrats by 14 points. In other words, it’s not a real poll, just more propaganda.

In fact, this “poll” sets a new record-they used the smallest number of Republicans in their “polling sample”
since January of 2008.

Who cares about him playing golf? I was more upset when there was any early morning report that he was going to address the nation about the flu. It later was updated to someone in the administration who was going to have a statement. As soon as the Senate can confirm Jeananne Garafalo as Surgeon General we won’t have to worry about these things.

Cindy Munford on April 26, 2009 at 4:05 PM

No church for The One?

youngO on April 26, 2009 at 4:07 PM

26% of Americans now identify themselves as Republicans.

How on earth is there any way to know that? By some poll? How many responded to this poll? In the tens of millions?

I see Stu Rothenberg says there is ZERO chance of the gop recapturing the House or Senate in 2010.

This is probably true. From what I understand, of those who are up for reelection, the numbers are too overwhelming in safe incumbancies for the Democratic candidate(s).

…and please get more conservative, its working out so well for your party.

I disagree. It was the those who were less conservative in the Party who didn’t work out so well in recent elections. I think when you don’t offer much of a difference between the two Parties, fickle voters have a tendency to move towards the one out of office. The Party needs to offer a clear contrast from the other. D’s and R’s are less important here.

Oh, and defend torture and the breaking of the law part too.
athensboy on April 26, 2009 at 2:34 PM

Pure sophistry. Even on the surface and quick look at the opposing sides to this argument would find that the above is a non sequitur. We defend waterboarding. We don’t believe waterboarding is torture. Therefore, we are not defending torture.

Breaking the law? There are many officials in DC who are law breakers. It is not monolithic to one Party. Even with the addition of multiple law breaking cabinet members of this administration. In fact, if one wanted to do a comparative tally, I doubt you would appreciate the results.

It depends on how many rounds. Since Obama wants to tax my rounds of golf into never never land, I think I do begrudge him, since he is paying for those rounds (or not — maybe that’s one of the perqs) out of the 97% of his 2-plus million which remained after taxes.

And the rest of us get to pay for his loopholes.

Ya know I just have to laugh at sentiments like this. 500 comments praising her courage and strength and it turns out she didn’t say it. Then to say the “anti-Palin cult” is unbalanced wipes it all away is hypocrisy run amok. Unbalanced is beleiving any good thing about Palin, such as you and others do. Much like the Huff-Po “love Obama for just being him” crowd.
Where there is one bit of difference in the behavior of these two very funny cults of personality?

Instead of using Palin threads as a kool-aid dunking booth you could try some objectivity. Get some – it’s the real thing.

Palin is a good governor with a track record and results that show it–Ogabe is not a good president.
In the 100 days he’s been the Precedent, he’s jacked up the debt into the tens of trillions, bowed and scraped to America’s enemies, and gutted our national security.
There’s quite a bit more substance to the Palin love than there is to mindless worship of Ogabe at the HuffPo.
The reason we responded favorably to the comments attributed to Gov. Palin are because they were substantive criticisms of Ogabe that she *might* have made and probably has or will.

Jenfidel on April 26, 2009 at 11:39 PM

BTW, does Ogabe have to play golf for….5 HOURS?!

He is being paid by us to do the nation’s business!
It doesn’t matter how much he made personally–he’s supposed to be working for us, on our dime.
I don’t begrudge him a little down time and recreation, but 5 hours?!?

Bradky on April 26, 2009 at 10:34 PM

When did I say I believe every good thing about Palin? The unbalanced part is in believing everything BAD about her. It’s held to with more fervor than anything the wildest Palin fan can come up with. If she had written the piece would it have made any difference to you? Nooooo. You would have found some grammatical irregularity, something that just doesn’t quite square with reality, some evidence of simple-minded fanaticism that’s sure to drive away all those enlightened ones like yourself.

Instead of using Palin threads as a kool-aid dunking booth you could try some objectivity. Get some – it’s the real thing.

Bradky on April 27, 2009 at 4:34 AM

What you call “mindless worship” is nothing more than an appreciation for a politician that stands for something and isn’t afraid to say it. That and the fact that she actually has an actual record of accomplishment and doesn’t hang out with anti-American, terrorist scum, racist preachers or take kick-backs from slum lords. The Obama drones who said Sara was unqualified voted in a man who showed up for work 143 days in 4 years while serving in the Senate and didn’t do much before that.

I’ve told you before I don’t dislike Palin. I dislike mindless worship of any individual thought of as the next political messiah. Whether it is Fred, Palin, Obama or Clinton – doesn’t matter.

celtnik on April 27, 2009 at 5:36 AM

No it becomes mindless worship when a significant number of people make glowing praise for something she never said.
I would venture a guess that 85% of the people who burn incense to her in these threads had never heard of her until she was picked as the VP.

Your diatribe about Obama is worthy of an anti-Bush rant at Huff-Po.

Bradky on April 27, 2009 at 5:48 AM

The answer is BO hates having people trying to make him a responsible POTUS. If he cannot blame it on Bush then the people calling on him to answer for his actions are all RACIST!!!

What difference does it make whether a Palin fan only just heard of her last August, or had been closely following her career for years? There has to be a first time for hearing about anyone. Show me one post in which I fawned over any particular candidate. You simply will not find one. It is called independence of thought and a refusal to let others tell me “who” I should vote for – or more to the point an adult who researches the issues largely on their own. The Palin and Obama drones look for perfume in their idol’s farts. Criticism of their god/goddess justifies an all out assault on the person who criticizes them – “how dare you say that about the first African-American President! – you must be racist” or “You leftard tool just leave Palin (and precious trig) alone or you are unAmerican”
