Whoops: Attack on Obama in NY Post wrongly attributed to Palin

posted at 12:45 pm on April 26, 2009 by Allahpundit

Turns out last night’s quote of the day from Sarahcuda wasn’t a quote from Sarahcuda. It was written by Meghan Clyne, a fact the Post has now — very quietly — acknowledged by disappearing the original attribution. It did seem odd that a headline-grabbing attack on The One by Palin was buried inconspicuously inside a list of 100 items instead of being broken out into its own op-ed; now we know why. Hugely embarrassing for the Post, needless to say. I wonder how they blew it. Did someone forward them an e-mail with the quote from Clyne misattributed to Palin and they took it at face value?

Speaking of embarrassing attacks on Obama, feel free to use this thread to comment on Drudge knocking The One this morning for playing a round of golf while there’s a crisis somewhere, which isn’t the first time a dopey charge of circumstantial callousness has been dumped on him (or on Bush, of course). Exit question: Why does Obama hate people with the flu?

WTF New York Post?

I don’t know how the words “Sarah Palin” and “Meghan Clyne” could sound alike, but whatever.

seaplanes on April 26, 2009 at 12:51 PM

Drudge?

Who?

For one, I am glad Obama is out playing a few rounds of golf…won’t begrudge him that. Far better than Obama trying to micromanage this event or any crisis.

coldwarrior on April 26, 2009 at 12:52 PM

I look forward to the day when the NY Post is toast! I can’t wait for a lot of News Paper companies to go out of business. Then hopefully there will be News Stations that will fall. I have never seen such liars in my life. Don’t know why Obingo hates people with the flu. I know I have so much disdain for that man. Mr. Teleprompter the man who is going to bring our Country down. I will and still am fighting anything that comes up. Might not do any good, but doesn’t hurt to at least say that I did write, and call. The NY Post needs to leave Sarah alone. They have and many other News agencies trashed her enough. It is over and she is still the Governor of Alaska. They need to leave it be and tell the truth of what is going on. But they don’t know how to be truthful.

sheebe on April 26, 2009 at 12:53 PM

Hey AP. are you sure it is Meghan Clyne?, or Meghan McCain in disguise?.

hawkman on April 26, 2009 at 12:53 PM

I think Drudge is just getting back at the left for them harping on Bush over golf. Both in that Fahrenheit 9/11 clip and when he said he gave up golf over(I think) the war in Iraq.

CaptFlood on April 26, 2009 at 12:54 PM

But Obama’s getting hourly briefings on a possible pandemic while he’s out on the golf course course. It’s not as if he’s out on a ranch or anything.

The left decimated Bush for not personally being in New Orleans as its own city and state government did nothing. Obama can face a headline that shows him golfing while Wall Street burns and swine flu is rapidly spreading across North America.

I feel so much better knowing Ja-No is on the job regarding the FLU.
I’m surprised she hasn’t suspended Customs and Border Protection’s authority and told them to stand down if we get a flood of Mexicans coming into the country, fleeing the evil flu, of course, blaming US for the outbreak.

I don’t think it’s dopey – the press excoriated Bush for it – so why should “The One” get a pass? The standards were set my friends – and the Democrats set them. We will now force them to live up their standards and jab them each and every time they fail to.

If nothing else – it highlights their hypocrisy. So exactly why IS Obama on the Golf Course when he should be tending to a potential disaster here? I’m watching the news right now – and Janet Napalitano is giving a brief on it. If she can work on a Sunday – why can’t THE ONE? Hmmm?

And besides – Janet is an airhead – she probably thinks the flu came in from Canada!

Wow, the Post looks really dumb now.

The part that was questionable for me was the mention of those two pieces of legislation which alledgedly are supposed to be supporting women. It seems she would have used something else to illustrate the point. However, there were a couple other sentences that seemed palinesque.

AP’s mention that it was not put up as an op-ed is important. Anything Sarah writes is bigtime so they would have put it up somewhere else more prominent to milk the ratings as much as possible.

Big screwup by the Post.

What is disturbing about NYPost’s misattribution is that somebody alerted the trolls at Politico who seemed to know beforehand that this wasn’t written by Sarah and wrapped it in their narrative of “Sarah is an idiot who can’t write” and gleefully bombarded Politico with it.

Somthing’s very fishy at NYP.

portlandon on April 26, 2009 at 1:14 PM

Folks trolls on several sites including the Politico claimed all day that Sarah Palin did not write this piece. If indeed she did not write this piece one of four things happened:

1)The trolls were tipped off by a NY Post insider or employee or were in cahoots with the NY Post knowing that the piece would be misattributed

2)Meghan Clyne or somebody in Clyne’s camp discovered the unintentional error in the NY Post and fed the info to the trolls

3)the internet trolls were just sticking to their script and it was a fortuitous guess

4)somebody in Sarah’s camp is a spy, realized the unintentional error and fed the info to the trolls so they could exploit it

technopeasant on April 26, 2009 at 1:14 PM

President Bush stopped playing the game since the press was portraying him as a heartless bastard for golfing during a “crisis” (crisis defined as the world not being a utopia). In recognition for his sacrificed, the press responded by … portraying Bush as a heartless bastard.

Does that mean President Obama is a heartless bastard for golfing during the current crisis? Maybe Obama just hates Mexicans.

AaronGuzman on April 26, 2009 at 1:14 PM

Watching the presser on this now with Janet from Another Planet and Goofy Gibbs. Here is the one thing that is sticking in my mind and that is the use of the word “marathon”. In fact the quote is “this is not a sprint but a marathon”.

With the large number of illegals in the country, this is indeed going to be a marathon. Many either will not stay at home or get the proper treatment which in turn could keep this flu going.

I also remember these same Lefty types slamming Bush during Katrina where things were very “fluid” and changed quite often as the data came in to the White House. Bush certainly was not playing golf while this storm was anticipated. Living in the area, I can say that things were not handled correctly, but this storm was an epic storm and a natural disaster on a scale many did not properly anticipate. We are human beings, and not remotely perfect. Most of us hated the trashing of Bush since much of what happened negatively was on a state and local level. So while I am very much not happy with Obama, I will say that how this is handled largely falls on state and local governments. Where Obama is going to need to work quickly is getting the Tamiflu and other drugs easily accessible to the states and PDQ upon requests of the states.

But one does wonder what went through their minds allowing him to play golf?

I wonder if the vector for the rapid spread of this flu in Mexico City can’t be traced back to hundreds of Mexicans filling “free” hospital waiting rooms, holding their numbered tag, waiting for hours to be seen by a nurse-physician.

If each person infected in a Mexican clinic waiting room encountered ten people within the infectious period, and they, in turn were in contact with ten others, and they with ten…the subsequent spread would be “extremadamente rapido.”

Health care workers in every country don’t suspect a new deadly strain of flu until their standard treatments don’t work. At that point though, they should immediately take preventive action and sound the alarm to WHO.

Don’t know how long they were seeing cases before the Mexicans did that. Every day they didn’t figure it out and respond, hundreds or thousands of new infections were allowed, including visitors from around the world.

Flu pandemics come in waves. This is just the first. It could sputter out, or it could grow exponentially. We will find out.

It wasn’t reported in the US press, but the Canadian press reported early in January that the company in Austria that makes flu vaccines – particularly the FluMist vaccine which was used to vaccinate kids free of charge in public schools all across the country (my daughter got the FluMist at school on inauguration day)- had someone internal at that factory disable their security protocols so that the most deadly strain of bird flu was mixed with human flu – exactly what would need to happen to produce the world’s most dangerous biological WMD and most devastating delivery system. Allegedly, the symptoms of such a hybrid would take 3 months to show up. January to April…. hmm…

The company claims they investigated and none of the toxic stuff made it into any of their shipped product. If I remember correctly, that area does have terrorist connections, possibly through the country bordering GEorgia (again, I can’t remember the name).

If anyone’s interested I could try to find the link.

When I saw the headlines about a surprise strain of flu that combined human with bird flu via swine… the stink meter went off in my head.

But then, I’m probably just an alarmist conspiracy theorist who is only imagining that there are people bent on killing us swine-lover infidels…

I’ll have to just trust Napolitano to investigate thoroughly…

That quote was too rational and thoughtful to have come from Palin.

Heh. Was reading through this thread, and your comment stopped me cold. The Stand was the first thing came to mind, reading about this strain of flu. Scary to even contemplate.

Wow Sheebee, you hate cup runeth over. Thats why your party is out power, all you people do is attack Obama, day after day. Never any new ideas, just attack. Americans see that negativity and they run from it. 26% of Americans now identify themselves as Republicans. And then the parties leaders,Rushbo, Joe the Plumber, Caribou Barbie, wail that the party isn’t conservative enough.Wow. But keep on barking about Obama, his approval rating is 69% and goes up one percentage point everytime Fox Noise attacks him. I see Stu Rothenberg says there is ZERO chance of the gop recapturing the House or Senate in 2010. Actually John Kyl says the gop will probably LOSE a senate seat or two in 2010. So keep on flying the Limbaugh flag, keep up the attacks on Obama, and please get more conservative, its working out so well for your party. Oh, and defend torture and the breaking of the law part too. How’s Palin’s defense funding coming?

When was the last time the Dims had a new idea? And no, deciding to run an inexperienced socialist for President doesn’t count.

They haven’t done “ideas” since 1933. It’s been retread and rehash ever since.

Check out the polls on that issue. The moonbat fringe is, um, not representative. Sorry.
