Video: Coulter and Pirro yell at each other over how to define torture

A food fight for your amusement on a lazy Sunday. The most revealing bit isn’t the Coulter/Pirro exchange but the premise tacitly accepted by Pirro, Estrich, and Geraldo himself that enhanced interrogation was an understandable overreaction after 9/11, back when the threat of an attack was, you know, real. Bear that in mind today while you peruse the news elsewhere, filled as it is with reports of bombings in Iraq on the upswing, Hezbollah potentially being unleashed in response to an Israeli attack on Iran, and of course the creeping Talibanization of Pakistan. Just another “bright, sunny, safe day in April 2009.” Click the image to watch.

We will have to disagree on that, then. I believe the formal standard is something that “shocks the conscience”. This sort of stuff shocked the conscience of a man like Theodore Roosevelt and it shocked my conscience as well.
Squid Shark on April 26, 2009 at 5:17 PM
I always thought that a rusty dull knife wasn’t torture.
It worked interrogating Nazis in WWII.
If the Left hates it, it must be good.
TexasJew on April 26, 2009 at 5:17 PM
I gave it my best effort, but after 8 seconds of susan estrich, my sound card melted. who do i send the bill to?
long_cat on April 26, 2009 at 5:18 PM
All I can say is that the stupidity of liberals takes my breath away.
orlandocajun on April 26, 2009 at 5:20 PM
It didn’t bother my conscience one bit. Anything it takes to save the lives of Americans. Even liberal ones.
Nuts4koi on April 26, 2009 at 5:29 PM
Look Seals.
It is my understanding that SERE was designed to train our guyz how to survive torture if captured.
If waterboarding isn’t torture…..why train for it?
strangelet on April 26, 2009 at 5:29 PM
Waterboarding is STILL legal under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. I still want to knock Jerry River’s teeth down his throat for threatening Michelle but that gutless fraud, Rivers, only threatens 5′ tall women.
nelsonknows on April 26, 2009 at 5:32 PM
The brain of this one is probably a 3 GHz Intel chip with a couple Gig of RAM, 300 GB hard drive, an SQL database and a Java script.
Every once in a while its programmer may post a couple things to continue the illusion of passing the Turing test.
You’re arguing with a computer script.
AZfederalist on April 26, 2009 at 5:40 PM
I’ve been through SERE at Camp Mackall NC and the point of SERE is that NONE of our enemies follow the Geneva Conventions…get it? NONE.
nelsonknows on April 26, 2009 at 5:41 PM
Nope, not true. Each person does what they have to do to survive a torture session. Waterboarding is used specifically because it is not torture, but scares the living hell out of you.
Nuts4koi on April 26, 2009 at 5:41 PM
I’ve been through SERE at Camp Mackall NC and the point of SERE is that NONE of our enemies follow the Geneva Conventions…get it? NONE.
nelsonknows on April 26, 2009 at 5:41 PM
Then…waterboarding is WORSE than torture?
What is worse than torture?
strangelet on April 26, 2009 at 5:42 PM
“survive torture”? What the hell are you talking about? Go back to 3rd grade.
progressoverpeace on April 26, 2009 at 5:43 PM
Oh, I should add to my post above, that even if it turns out that gotnolife is not a script, then you are arguing with the wetware version of a bot-script.
Given its behavior, my money is on bot-script. The self-imposed ban was to allow time for a version upgrade.
Does anybody know if other conservative blogs have a troll that exhibits identical behavior?
AZfederalist on April 26, 2009 at 5:45 PM
Probably. The sad part is that programs tend to make more sense than flesh+blood liberals, though they’re all equally boring.

strangelet on April 26, 2009 at 5:51 PM
So…soldiers in SERE training are waterboarded as an example of…….umm…..non-geneva convention not-torture that their captors might subject them to?
strangelet on April 26, 2009 at 5:53 PM
Waterboard is NOT torture, if it was, waterboarding would be ILLEGAL under the Uniform Code of Military Justice….GET IT?
nelsonknows on April 26, 2009 at 5:55 PM
Those are detailing four separate components. Are you sentient? “Resist” was the word you were originally looking for. You’re welcome, dipsh!t.
progressoverpeace on April 26, 2009 at 6:01 PM
What a bunch of crap! The real reasons for the release of this info and for the witch hunt are to destroy the previous administration’s reputation, and to distract from the current administration’s actions.
This is Machiavellianism 101.
stonemeister on April 26, 2009 at 6:04 PM
To th topic at hand, it’s interesting how conservative women seem to be more upbeat and happy and liberal women seem to be more spiteful and shrewish.
AZfederalist on April 26, 2009 at 6:05 PM
Are you deliberately a moron, or does it come naturally?
No need to answer….you’re a lib. The answer is obvious.
xblade on April 26, 2009 at 6:24 PM
So they are not taught how to deal with legal interrogation techniques? I dunno but you sound silly.
Jamson64 on April 26, 2009 at 6:31 PM
I love the libbies and how they live in their fantasy land. They actually believe we buy their crap on how much they “care”. In reality, they are all appeasers and enablers.
Note how they like to call everyone that disagress with them Nazis and/or Hitler. Their premise is that everyone can agree that this is the worst thing in the world; that is, to be a Nazi or someone like Hitler is the definition of evil. Yeah, that makes sense, but…
I have not forgotten that during the 30’s and even in ‘39 when Hitler began running over Europe that the bleeding hearts did not want to lift a finger! Even after 2 years of Hitler running wild the wussy American left were perfectly fine with the idea of a Nazi Europe because they thought it wouldn’t affect them. Sound familiar?
The point is that there is nothing that the left will really stand up for unless it has to do with sex (see Bill Maher). I mean, they have needs! Don’t repress my feelings, man!
Hippies suck.
yubley on April 26, 2009 at 6:32 PM
Maybe strangelet got the point that waterboarding isn’t torture under the UCMJ and if it WAS it would be illegal to conduct in SERE.
nelsonknows on April 26, 2009 at 6:36 PM
Hey, Squid Shark -
Perhaps you are unaware of the fact that for 8 years George Bush was referred to as a chimpanzee by the Democratic Left. Now, what’s on your mind that you think, without knowing anything about me, that I’m a racist?
mr1216 on April 26, 2009 at 6:45 PM
getalie on April 26, 2009
We sure do believe you should back up your words with a longer ban than 36.1 seconds.
Jamson64 on April 26, 2009 at 6:50 PM
The entire argument presently put forth by the liberals will change as soon as there is an incident that directly effects them. Such as a school full of children of liberals being taken hostage by terrorists. Or perhaps a large, successful terrorist attack on a liberal haven such as San Francisco. Maybe a situation where terrorists invade a convention center that just happens to be hosting a Democratic meeting.
At that time you will hear screams of outrage and demands to know why the CIA did not do everything possible and necessary to stop such an attack. They will demand that heads roll and prosecutions be immediate of all who let this happen.
It always, always directly depends on whose ox is being gored, if you are a liberal. Always.
Yoop on April 26, 2009 at 6:55 PM
Oh, I gets it.
Its only torture when someone else does it.
lol.
strangelet on April 26, 2009 at 6:58 PM
I think we are all being tortured watching our country g bankrupt while we sit and can only throw tea bags.
johnnyU on April 26, 2009 at 6:58 PM
I heard Oliver North on Hannity say that we have no idea of the lasting harm this is going to do to our Country. He said this information was under the highest classified stamp. He expects it to cause the death of many of our service men and women, and he also expects it will be used by the Euroweenies and Muslim Countries against us for years. It just blows my mind that our President would hate this Country so much.
sandee on April 26, 2009 at 7:08 PM
So everything that a soldier trains for is torture? What torture are they training for when they run an obstacle course?
Scrappy on April 26, 2009 at 7:22 PM
getalife bans himself the same way that liberal stooges at protests “torture” themselves with waterboarding.
It’s not permanent, there are no lasting effects, and within a few minutes they’re babbling the same talking points having learned nothing from their self-imposed torture/banning.
Scrappy on April 26, 2009 at 7:30 PM
Yea, he has thrown the whole country under the bus. We are all expendable in his quest to exact revenge for our sins against the poor, oppressed and people of color.
Remember in the movie The Patriot, Cromwell is angry with the captain over his ungentlemanly conduct and tells him that war is to be fought within the proper protocol. But, the colonists knew that they could not win against an army that was bigger and better armed and trained so they use guerrilla tactics and are very effective.
After they humiliate Cromwell, he gives the captain the green light to fight dirty.
I know this is fiction but think about it in terms of the present war. They are fighting us dirty, without rules and we are arguing over whether or not pouring water over their faces in an effort to give them the impression they are going to drown. And this after telling them all the details of what will be done, that they won’t in fact drown and that the duration will be short.
This isn’t a friggin boxing match where the Marques of Queensbury rules apply. This is a street fight, to the death. One side will win, one will lose. I want our side to be the victors.
Jvette on April 26, 2009 at 7:42 PM
Couldn’t get past Geraldo. Seems that Ann has the deck stacked against her with that crew. But while we’re on the subject of conservative clips, why don’t we see as many Michelle videos lately? You guys having a problem getting boss content? Has the move to Denver slowed her down?
Christian Conservative on April 26, 2009 at 7:47 PM
As for the video, I didn’t watch. Susan Ostrich just grates my nerves, can’t stand to look at or hear her. The liberals never
never let the conservative make a full point or complete their thoughts. They shout conservatives down because they know that they have nothing to contradict the facts that conservatives bring to these arguments. I have never had a rational conversation with a lib, it always descends into the liberal shouting me down and then calling me names.
Jvette on April 26, 2009 at 7:50 PM
Apparently you DON’T get it and you don’t WANT to get the point nor the truth. You do a disservice to all of us that have BEEN in the military and protected you.
I don’t care if you like the FACT or not, waterboarding is NOT torture or it would be ILLEGAL to conduct in SERE.
get this and get this CLEARLY, releasing classified information to our enemies is giving aid and comfort to that enemy which is treason and supporting anyone who commits treason is ALSO treason.
nelsonknows on April 26, 2009 at 7:59 PM
Are the leftist fools going to scream that Tazers are torture now…tazers and pepper spray and handcuffs? ALL LEGAL just like waterboarding.
nelsonknows on April 26, 2009 at 8:04 PM
83 times? A cat would have learned to deal with it faster than that. A dog would have just answered the questions and skip the water after the 5th time. It’s not like this guy is protecting any honor or anything.
- The Cat
P.S. I still say Estrich ate Carol Channing.

Does Jerry have any network left he hasn’t flopped on. Get him off Fox. He is useless.
ndulik on April 26, 2009 at 8:52 PM
No they didn’t. They argued over whether the United States had prosecuted Japanese soldiers for waterboarding. Sheesh, for a minute there I thought I was watching CBS.
Basilsbest on April 26, 2009 at 9:13 PM
That squid creep is back telling us what is silly, man are YOU in our Navy. Please tell me your in the Cuban Navy. You seem to lose the fact that it prevented the deaths of thousands in L.A. or is that fact not relevant to you, you remind me of Teddy Kennedy(during debate on assassination) saying “better 1 million people die than we assassinate one foreign leader” Lets see 1 million for one, I don’t see the problem.
jainphx on April 26, 2009 at 9:22 PM
Do you see them training for the bastinado, dummy?
Jim Treacher on April 26, 2009 at 9:28 PM
I have lost all respect for Ann Coulter for going on Geraldo show to start with. When are consev. going to learn to stay away from him.Hannity better learn very soon.
thmcbb on April 26, 2009 at 9:31 PM
I beginning to want to see a few liberals assassinated. These people are idiots. They are going to get
peopleAmericans killed.G. on April 26, 2009 at 9:38 PM
I totally agree with the liberals… Let’s quit waterboarding, slapping their faces, etc. Let’s just behead them. That seems to be acceptable to the liberals. That’s not torture.
suzyk on April 26, 2009 at 9:59 PM
BTW… Hannity makes me sick and I am a conservative. He’s all about himself. Rush has been on for years and Hannity has to tout that he’s been on longer than Rush. Ya Right. Hannity is a suck up to everybody to get them as guests on his show. I won’t watch it. Rush rules and Levin is a strong second.
suzyk on April 26, 2009 at 10:01 PM
..Was anyone else interested in Red Faction 3 until they read the plotline and skimmed the character sheets?
Reaps on April 26, 2009 at 10:21 PM
I just wish everybody would shut the hell up on the whole torture VS not torture BS and remember we have 130,00 members of the miltary still in harms way and all we give a shit enough to talk about is the treatment of people who would absolutely cut your head off given the chance. people who seem to gain weight, get healthier, and get their dental done while living in this tortureous environment. But then again I would guess that their scars would be emotional and deep(ask their lawyers) being forced to live in an environment where from what I can see their every request short of the key to the gate is being granted. (President Urkel is working on that).
Dadzilla on April 26, 2009 at 10:42 PM
Ann showed amazing restraint.
@ntif@n on April 26, 2009 at 10:47 PM
Really? Give us all of the historical examples which inform your opinion. Which “tortures” has history been kind to, in your JAG* estimation.
(*Guessing – is that what a “squid shark” is?)
Jaibones on April 26, 2009 at 10:52 PM
Are you somehow unaware that Coulter is Bill Maher’s most frequent guest?
Jaibones on April 26, 2009 at 10:53 PM
Hey, shitdick – swimming isn’t torture either, but I believe swimmers train, do they not?
Jaibones on April 26, 2009 at 10:57 PM
So what do you think of Black Jack Pershing’s method of handling terrorist? Was that torture?
Johan Klaus on April 27, 2009 at 12:22 AM
Let’s try a situation you may have been through – in health class you were taught how to put on a condom by using a cucumber, no it’s not the same but it’s the best simulation they can do without “crossing the line”. It offers you a chance to do it over & over so you don’t freak out, so that when the real thing happens, and it will be far more intense you at least have some idea how to handle it.
Well that depends.
batterup on April 27, 2009 at 1:01 AM
This is not what shocked the conscience of Teddy R (or, rather, what failed to shock his conscience). The “water cure” which should have shocked him was the act of pouring salt water into a person until they were distended like a balloon — and then emptying them and doing it again.
Note the stated death rate — the “water cure” was certainly torture. Now note the death rate from waterboarding — which causes no permanent or long lasting physical or mental harm, the hallmark of when our own anti-torture laws kick in.

Waiting for the chair to slap this Geraldo talking head.
Pirro could use the face-lift.
bluelightbrigade on April 27, 2009 at 8:28 AM
Because our Enemies don’t have any high minded notions on what it takes to win a War. Can You really be that naive or are you just trolling for an argument?
old trooper2 on April 27, 2009 at 8:32 AM
I was right, You are just trolling. You have reasonable folks responding. You keep throwing out the bait. Why don’t you find another hobby besides keyboard sniping. If you ever run into me and offer that nonsense in person, I can give you a lesson that won’t be lost in the translation from your fantasy to a reality that does not involve hiding behind a keyboard.
old trooper2 on April 27, 2009 at 8:38 AM
Poor Ann. As usual, she knows the facts, but Geraldo doesn’t seem to interested in digging past the surface. Did we prosecute Japanese soldiers for waterboarding?
Good thread on this question at Mahalo. I trust Ann has done the background work on this. One of the most famous cases (at least on the Web, deals with Yukio Asano. Waterboarding was only one of the charges against him; he also burned prisoners with cigarettes, and performed other sorts of water torture.
hawksruleva on April 27, 2009 at 9:18 AM
I love Ann, and I wish her all the best. She might have to find another, better network to be seen on as, in my opinion, Fox News has gone downhill. I expect them to make a play for “Bathtub Boy” to join their lineup. Rivera is bad, Hammity has lost my respect, Greta is a ghoul feeding on headline heartbreaks. I listen to Gibson’s podcast, and that’s about it.
Doug on April 27, 2009 at 11:31 AM
3 against 1 is unfair. With Ann being the 1, maybe if they’d thrown in a couple of more libs – like Colmes and Shep it may have been closer to being even.

Do we really live in a era where people have gone so soft as to claim dumping water on people and throwing bugs on them is torture? By liberals logic summer camp is is an ode to De Sade.
