Poll: Obamateurism of the Week?
posted at 8:05 am on April 26, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

It’s been a week full of Obamateurisms, but what was the best? Vote in today’s poll! We’ll announce the results tomorrow with Kevin McCullough on the Ed Morrissey Show.
Previous winners:
- Obama covers up IHS while quoting Jesus
- Austrian is a language?
- Obama bows to the Saudi king
- 1908 Model T got better gas mileage than today’s SUVs

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

That’s just it – to me, waterboarding is nothing compared to what they do, with beheadings, stoning, and all that.
I just don’t see how it compares.

I don’t think I have even seen a blog that needed to undergo an exorsism. It looks like getalife needs help as soon as possible.
Every time I center on a getalife post my screen starts to bulge and it acts like there is something evil trying to get out into my space. There is a faint scent of sulphur.
Does anyone know a priest that is trained in handling such situations?
Should getalife be in a straight jacket to protect her from herself? Could she pass the demon on to other liberal posters before the exorcism?
We need help, NOW!

Okay I know this isnt an Obamateurism but I just saw this video on the comcast homepage and almost choked on my coffee. It’s AP video of a bird having hatchlings outside the Whitehouse doorway. I didnt know where else to post it and I wanted to share. I sent the link to tips@hotair maybe we can get a section on here for over the top press coverage of “The One” we can call them “O”gasims or something. Be warned this marshmallow fluff and cotton candy sweet.

The Constitution used to be the Rock, upon which we built our house. The shifting sands of the living document approach have been bad enough. Next, the Constitution will be a foundation built upon five pillars.
These are the times that I am glad that I am old. I really do not want to live to see American Sharia law.

We drip a little water up someones nose and it’s torture? Somehow this causes us to lose the “moral high-ground” to people who use electric power drills to drill into our soldiers and piano wire to peel off their flesh. I think we could descend deep into the torture pit and still hold the “moral high-ground” over these monsters. Personally I wouldnt lose any sleep if our guy’s went “Casino” on them and took them in a basement someplace and started breaking their knuckles with a hammer.
In order to win we have to want to live MORE than they want to kill us.

trivial pursuit
I caught R-TX Congressman John Carter asking General Petraeus about that on C-SPAN, wanting to make certain that the troops living conditions not only include the medical facilities but that troops’ recreational facilities be provided.
Let the blame-Bush-leftards eat their own budget crow. Obama wanted to convert the White House bowling alley into a basketball court before making certain that the troops have something first. For all of Obama’s frivolous travels, avoiding the Oval Office, he could have directed those tax dollars towards benefiting our troops living conditions.

Heh. The reason why I asked is because I couldn’t find it in a google search.
And I wanted to see where you got your numbers for exactly this reason:
They claim Obama’s Gallup approval rating is 56%: It’s not. That’s the percent of people who say he’s doing a good or excellent job. His approval rating is in the mid-60s and higher than many of those they compare them to.
It was a bogus comparison and you were too dumb to realize it.

Comparisons bear more meaning than a single premeditation.
Take the “meaning” of the poll as you will, and allow others to do likewise.
Meet your own request; document your own figures.
You go to extremes without admitting so. Keeping abreast on popularity for its own sake is its own fallacious study with limited meaning that inevitably gets corrupted by intent.

Your verb tenses are confusing. Are you saying his approval was or is in the mid-60s?
It’s important, because you’re calling my source a bogus comparison when in fact it was correct at the time it was written.
Oh wait, you aren’t talking about the hack poll that was released this morning showing glorious leader to have approval in the mid-60s?
Oh please tell me Shipley didn’t fall for this morning’s freak outlier.

Speaking of crisis, surprise: Obama administration has officially declared a national health crisis due to swine flu.

Marc-André Hamelin is a favorite pianist, primarily for works by Charles-Valentin Alkan, an extraordinary, reclusive, French, Jewish composer. I mentioned Hamelin as his performance of Liszt’s Un sospiro will show up at the top of You Tube. For Liszt, I don’t have a favorite pianist, as I enjoy many different interpretations. I once played piano.
I enjoy listening to all Western Classical Music traditions: Medieval Sequences by Hildegard von Bingen, Renaissance Motets , Baroque keyboard & orchestral works, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century and contemporary, like Górecki, Pärt, et al. All except for opera.
Happy to discuss any of this any time, but there are just so few Hot Air Classical Music threads. I think it’s a conspiracy.

BUSH KEPT AMERICANS SAFE
AMERICAN VETERAN on April 26, 2009 at 4:32 PM
I seriously debated choosing the Monroe Doctrine, too. Personally, I don’t think that Obama could articulate what it is. (Maybe Gibson or Couric could interview him to find out.) He doesn’t have a knowledge of American or world history to support how much of our policy has come about nor the justification for it.
Obama is pushing the memos’ issue in order to push and eventually cede the decision to the UN or the ICC. Not only is Obama pandering to his rabid nutroots’ base, who are bent on vengeance against all things Bush, but Obama is a puppet for Soros, who promotes the dissolution of nation.
Obama does not see the United States as a beacon of freedom or of exceptionality. That the leader of our nation is so patently averse to our nation’s fineness while ignoring blatant, horrific abuses of power by other nations in the past and currently is a sad statement of how Obama ever rose to the position of power that he wields.
onlineanalyst on April 26, 2009 at 4:35 PM
Today his approval rating is 65%.
And no, it was not correct at the time it was written. Here’s the gallup tracking of his approval rating. As you can see, it was in the mid-sixties last friday when that poll was written (and hasn’t dipped below 60% for a while). It may have actually been higher than 65%.
Again, you’re apparently too dense to see that it’s a false comparison. They added together those who say he’s doing a good or excellent job to get the 56% number, then compare it to the job approval number (which is not come to by adding the “excellent” and “good” numbers) of past presidents.
It’s a false comparison. If you compare Obama’s job approval rating to the numbers the woman uses, he does very well:
April approval ratings in first year in office
Bush now 62%
Clinton, 1993 55
Bush, 1989 58
Reagan, 1981 67
Carter, 1977 63
Nixon, 1969 61
Obama 2009 65
Again, I asked you to provide a link because I had a sinking suspicion you were full of sh*t. No surprise I was right.

Obama is the beneficiary of a monolithic hive mind Democratic base. No matter how many times he stumbles, no matter what he does, no matter what excesses he takes, 92% will be there to goosestep off the bridge for him when the time comes.
Look to the crosstabs for his approval among moderates and republicans. He is a dismal failure propped up only by the unyielding yes-man mentality of Democrats.

I don’t respect someone who uses gratuitous profanity in their speech, Shipley. It’s a sign of intellectual and moral laziness.
Now, you claimed that Mr. Obama’s Gallup approval ratings have never fallen below 60%. You are incorrect.
Yet last week’s USA Today reported:
Shipley is flailing.
Sad.
jeff_from_mpls on April 26, 2009 at 10:40 PM
Jeff,
I’ll go slowly this time so that maybe you can follow along.
First off, I never said his approval rating has fallen below 60%. I said it hasn’t fallen below 60% in a while. This is in response to your claim that his gallup approval rating was at 56% the day the post you cited was written. That is incorrect. Again, look at this link.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspx
You’ll notice that it’s NEVER been at 56%. His job approval today is 65%. Last Friday it was atleast 65%.
You cite that USA today article. great. Gallup did say 56% said he was doing a good or excellent job. But as I said before, that’s not the same as his job approval rating
The woman in the post you cite compares the 56% good and excellent marks to past president’s job approval ratings. It’s a false comparison. Now, if she compared that 56% to past president’s combined good/excellent ratings — fine. But she didn’t. She compared it to their job approval ratings. Obama’s job approval rating is higher than 56% and higher than most of the presidents cited “100 day” approval rating.
Do you honestly not understand this?
Tom_Shipley on April 26, 2009 at 11:15 PM
