Video: Orwell at Delaware

As documented by one of my favorite non-profits, a famously egregious example of an experience most righties with a B.A. have had. My freshman orientation wasn’t this bad but I do remember a class screening of “Thelma & Louise” with noisy applause whenever some male malefactor got his, as a sort of group affirmation that campus was officially a No Patriarchy zone. I’m not being cute with the Orwell reference in the headline, either. The description here of racial “sensitivity training” that does nothing but raise tensions by emphasizing differences is a nice adjunct to “Freedom is slavery.”

FIRE’s latest win came just two days ago, incidentally, in defense of a conservative newspaper. They’ll be busy forever.

So far I’ve learned that marshmallows are racist.

I had forgotten all about my fm orientation, clearly it really impacted me. This brings back the memories, tho.

“By definition?” I don’t think that means what you think it means!

Spirit of 1776 on April 25, 2009 at 4:44 PM

So what should conservatives do to fight back against this “emphasizing differences?” Even when it isn’t this malicious, it’s everywhere. Our local library has a group of “young supporters” that does things like represent the library at the local Pride festival, and the local hispanic festival.

Our local history museum has special events for black history month and women’s history month, and as you stroll around the exhibits you can find sections dedicated to “this is how gays contributed to …”, “this is how blacks contributed to …,” and so on. And this is St. Louis!

I suppose on the bright side I’ve even read some “progressive” writers rebelling against the trend. They think things like “black history month” give the impression that blacks accomplished so little historically that we have to have a special month set aside for them lest we forget them completely. Reminds me of the “leftism is racism” article posted here.

Really though, I would like to reverse this trend, but I’m not sure what to do.

Thanks for putting this up, AP. I would not have seen it otherwise.

I think any one who is serious about education and about freedom, should be outraged about this program. Students should be taught to think, not to begin discussions with someone else’s conclusions.

That’s the money quote, imo. No question that happened in my school and decree program.

Hey AP and everyone else, if you guys like FIRE, you should know that their founder is right now running an outsider’s candidacy for election to the Harvard Board of Overseers, specifically running against their campus speech codes and all that jazz.

The more publicity they get the better, I have no idea if they have a chance, but didn’t the Dartmouth outsiders get elected a couple years ago? All the other candidates are official liberal establishment candidates, the FIRE guy had to get on the ballot by petition. The worst part of it for me is that Hugh Hewitt, completely clueless, keeps urging his listeners to support one of the liberal guys, just because he’s Hugh’s friend. If Hugh actually believes the stuff he says every day, he should absolutely support the FIRE guys, and so should y’all!

You ain’t seen nothin’ until you’ve attended any law enforcement department’s Federally Mandated ‘Cultural Sensitivity’ and ‘Racial Profiling’ training course.

They bring in ‘civic leaders’ and ‘experts’ and ‘community activists’ and other kool-aid guzzling boot lickers from all over the community in order to inform all the white cops that they’re inherently racist, but people of color and homosexuals are exempt from even being capable of cultural insensitivity and racism because they are the historically perpetual victims of… everything imaginable.

Cops of color are exempted from even having to attend the Racial Profiling portion of the training.

It is beyond Superman’s Bizarro World.

SilverStar830 on April 25, 2009 at 5:41 PM

I have noticed among the libs that if they cant pin the “evil” tag on someone and make it stick, they then turn to the “racist” tag and try that. The push back is that what is now termed racism in the lefts disctionary is in reality a survival instinct. I do not mean to offend anyone by saying this, because true racism does exist and it has bred genocide. The code language and oppressive re-education that is now being used in the public and academic spheres is not breeding anti racism but is merely breeding a new form of reverse racism.

I work at Purdue. A couple of years ago, I had to attend a mandatory “diversity-training” class. The class itself was frightening, but the instructor was even scarier – a true believer if there ever was one.

She came about as close as she could to saying that only whites could be racists. Thankfully, most of the people I work with realize it was propaganda – even though they themselves are die-hard liberals too. One day though, it will be mantra.

This program sounds almost exactly like the one my daughter has endured as a freshman at Notre Dame. They outsourced their program to some leftist academic group which brainwashes a couple of grad students at ND, who then attempt to brainwash the students.

The program literally told every white student that they were racist, and that only white students were racist.

I’m sort of a fixture at the local community college because I’ve been attending there more off than on since 1989.
My…values…are well known.
I went over there a few weeks ago because I was considering working toward my degree again.
A conservative employee I’ve known for years has warned me off.
Though the school was pc even in ‘89-since the election of the light-worker it’s gotten much worse.
My friend basically told me than unless I was willing to leave my freedom of speech at home-forces within the school would make my time in class miserable.
I’ll be thirty nine the day after MM. I WILL NOT sit down and shut up!
Needless to say, I’m researching other options

Chris Mathews once commented that it was good for conservatives to go to college and be exposed to different ideas. My first thought was yeah when do the progressives get to enjoy that same experience? As a conservative/libertarian I had to defend and think through my beliefs, while progressives rarely if ever have this experience. That’s why you end up with people in the MSM who live in a bubble without peers that have a different outlook on the world.

I never enjoyed the kind of treatment in this videao since I went to “commuter” universities. So glad I decided to go cheap.

*I call them progressives rather than liberals, because today’s “liberals” have little in common with classical Liberalism.

Stickeehands on April 25, 2009 at 6:24 PM

My first experience with this kind of thought crime came in the Maryland suburbs of DC where half my school was bussed 45 minutes to the ghetto while half of that school was bussed 45 minutes the opposite direction. No real thought went into the federally mandated action but putting forced demographics. It made both schools so substandard that the whites left in droves to other school systems and within a decade there are only pockets of whites in a 95% black county. This is what liberal good intentions do to real communities.

First Christmas after the ghetto came to suburbia, Frosty the Snowman was banned because he was white. The Jackson Five Christmas album was the only music played at the class party. True story.

Do not let anyone alienate you from yor education. This is an underhanded tactic designed to silence free and individual thought. The libs use peer pressured indoctrinees to embarass, silence, and banish conservatives out of the academic arena. When conservatives turn to online or conservative universities then any academic research they contribute to any subject is deemed to be “tarnished” with conservative politics or written off as underpar online classes.

I bet you’re wrong about that. I went to an inner-city high school with a very high minority enrollment. I went to undergrad at a school which was nearly entirely white. It was startling how better educated my high school friends were on these matters.

You just love to push anything that supports your line of thinking…ANYTHING at any cost. You should be far more upset at how the kids in the video were treated(not that you watched it)

I watched it until the part where the girl sitting with the other two students giggled at “oppression”. Kinda lost some of her credibility there.

You goggle it yourself. Your answer is lame. Schools must indoctrinate students to avoid embarrassment? Seems to me the actions of the left have been exponentially more embarrassing over the years than anything else.

Google it.

I wonder if you realize how hysterical you sound. As educational institutions they have an interest in educating their students on these matters. It looks horrible when a place of higher education has kids running around in blackface on Halloween. No one is saying they must do this. They have an interest in doing it. Which is why they do it. Lose the right-wing hysterics your only embarrassing yourself.

Dont try the bait and switch manuever on this. Ignorance is one thing. The carnival goers in Brazil who celebrated Obama’s election and the Turkish TV reporter felt that they were honoring Obama by dressing in blackface. What these programs like the one highlighted on this thread are attempting to do is not inform, they are meant to indoctrinate. It is not the schools job to oppressly program students. Schools pride themselves at being bastions of free speech and yet that free speech is coersed and manipulated by the schools themselves. If any student shows up in blackface, his or her peers will no doubt use traditional ways to teach them correct behavior, such as shunning them, or rebutting them in public or private. These colleges need to stay out of trying to socially engineer their populations because these types of programs are serving only to take these issues to a new level. Reverse racism is becomming just as prevalent as racism.

I was oblivious to all of this. I skipped F-O. I skipped dorm life. I used to feel empty. Now I am full.

You’re attacking a strawman. I said the program used by UD was over the topic.

crr6 on April 25, 2009 at 7:14 PM

CRR if they do know the history …a big if… I bet 99.9999 % of them have seen it in their own lives. You and others love to extrapolate such things to a point that people think it is in their lives. It is such a rare problem and to pretend otherwise is just plain disingenuous.

And what is that old saying– sticks and stones…..

Grow up

The path of the Utopian yellow brick road, for Lefty
brainwashed lock-stepped Talk’n point Liberals,will
always lead back to the Liberal church,at the Alter
of Liberalism!

And Homeland Secruity needs to look at the real threat
of America, because the Left are busy brainwashing their
young,

which,is almost no different, than whats going on in the
Middle East, with the Jihadys programming their future to become forever terrorists!

Or,in case of Liberal American’s,its worse, for they are
political activists, that help no one, accept themselves!!

And this Liberal brainwashing,is extremely dangerous, for
those Lefty activists, eventually seperate themselves from
their own country, and as they become more brainwashed with
Lefty lies, they come to believe their very own country is,

THE ENEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The above is a great tactic that I call the passing glance. It is used to avoid the reality of the situation so that one can move on to push their own agenda.

Tell that to a black person.

Seriously though, should a young Jew laugh at Holocaust jokes because they didn’t personally experience it?

BTW, my alumni office is getting a call on monday, for damn sure.

English 102… the book used had many examples of white males in power (such as landlords, bosses, and even slave owners), always abusing the position… Never a story of a minority or woman having power and abusing it.
-
In one of my essay critiques toward the end of the semester I complained noted this imbalance and expressed my concern that this was being presented as a condensed view of the world as it either is, or should be perceived.
-
My larger point was that the book’s overall theme was dead wrong. It matched the thought put forth by this UofD program. However, many random acts of kindness occur each day, many by the people who this type of stuff besmirches. Even a single story in that book that allowed that thought to be out would have gone a long way to redeemed it, but none was to be found. Very sad.
-
I still aced the class… The prof liked me I guess.

Yeah, real bad. I suppose you think running conservative speakers off campus with threats off bodily harm is cool. These fine institutions you refer to seemingly aren’t too embarrassed when this happens. Broken windows, assaults … nah, no problem. “Our students are merely expressing their 1st Amendment right while preventing others from doing the same”.

Keep digging your hole.

Lose the right-wing hysterics your only embarrassing yourself.

Sorry, concern over the insidious brainwashing that goes on at our schools is not hysterical. You on the other hand, being expressly concerned about the hidden dangers of someone in blackface on Halloween … are very hysterical.

Not even close

Are you really this dim? Seriously
