Quote of the day

posted at 9:30 pm on April 25, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Of course, the lack of bipartisanship isn’t limited to Capitol Hill. Obama has taken gratuitous swipes at the Republicans who recently decamped Washington, blaming President Bush for everything from the economy and the war to the lack of sufficient puppies and rainbows. And who could forget the Rush Limbaugh flap — in which Obama’s top advisers, including chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, orchestrated a public relations campaign meant to undermine the Republican National Committee chairman, Michael Steele, by framing talk-radio personality Limbaugh as the real head of the Republican Party.

For now, Obama’s back-pedal on the bipartisanship promise just makes him look insincere. But the real consequences of the mistake will be felt soon enough. As Presidents Bush and Clinton could tell him, congressional majorities do change — and at some point, Obama will need Republicans on his side. He’d be smart to spend his second 100 days making up for the serious snubs of his first.”

Update: Contrary to what the Post originally claimed, Palin didn’t say this. See here.

I highly doubt the Republicans would have voted for anything on the stimulus bill.

Bipartisanship goes both ways. For the President to come to your domain of work and ask for your support is a huge gesture.

Add to the fact that most Republicans made up their minds even before he met with them is not something of Obama’s doing.

PrincipledPilgrim on April 25, 2009 at 9:52 PM

Some points that I and my friends thrashed out at C4P:

1) She’s speaking as a leader of republican party and it’s clear that she’s taken up the mantle. (The whole passage reads like a SOTU-rebuttal and she’s primarily hitting Obama for his shabby treatment of the Republicans.)

2) People who wanted to know her positions on policy are getting a taste of it. Also, she’s familiarizing herself with his record which is absolutely essential for 2012.

3) She’s propping up both Michael Steele and Pres.Bush and this is something of a trend.

4) She’s following everything and seems to have a good idea of what’s transpiring in Washington.

5) She hasn’t drunk the Obama kool-aid, not even a sip. Unlike the Romney, Jindal, Sanford trio she isn’t singing kumbaya.

My friends at C4P have said that the last passage is a warning to Obama that 2010 is a top priority for Sarah and she’s gonna work to take back the House or Senate or both. You never know.

Great line from C4P: She’s running and she’s not running to the middle!

Her loss on the State AG pick is proof of that.

ckoeber on April 25, 2009 at 9:43 PM

She’s never been on board with her state GOP and many hope she won’t be fully on board with the national GOP establishment. She’s the ultimate anti-establishment candidate. As for her loss of AG pick, that’s not a big deal. You should check out the gop12 blog. Other governors are having an absolutely horrid time and actually Sarah is the one politician right now faring really well.

promachus on April 25, 2009 at 9:57 PM

The beauty of Sarah is that she isn’t a career politician. I don’t think she aspires to be Prez. If the timing is right, I think she might go for it. In the meantime, she is just being herself. She is unabashedly honest just like Miss Cali. People appreciate genuine honesty instead of those (like Newt, Jindal, Sanford, et. al.) who are always angling for the best political position.

Mental Masturbation. The MSM will never report any of this. Joe Lib/Mod sits in his Barco lounger seeing the BJ’s the MSM is giving Dear Leader. He/she doesn’t see Pelosi lying without shame. He/she doesn’t see the hypocrisy…if W had done ANY of the things Dear Leader had done (DVD’s to Brown, bowing to the king, tongue kissing Hugo, etc. etc.,) and his TOTAL lack of a cogent thought without the teleprompter reading words that someone wrote (like that evil Karl Rove)it would have been 24/7 lead news. How about Plug’s Biden’s charity donations over the last 10 years? Much less than 1% yet the clown says we should do more!

Why do you hate the troops? You voted in 2004 for a guy who accused them of terrorizing Iraqi civilians in the middle of the night, after all.

And later your hero said that only idiots join the military. Of course, he spoke from personal experience; after all his grades were lower than Bush’s were at Yale.

I would call you a simpleton, but that would only insult the 70 percent of high school dropouts who your MSNBC network said voted for O’bama.

No, we want to help you along.

ckoeber on April 25, 2009 at 10:08 PM

you forgot to add “/sarc” at the end of that

El_Terrible on April 25, 2009 at 10:13 PM

You remind me of the guys in school who hated the school slut.
RobertInLexington on April 25, 2009 at 9:52 PM

I think conservatives4palin should print this on t-shirts to raise money for sarah’s lawyers.

I’ll buy a dozen!

benny shakar on April 25, 2009 at 10:13 PM

Think about it. Eventually all analogies break down, but its the hatred that kills them. They hate her, but they can’t stay away from her. I can’t stand Pelosi, but do I go to her defenders blogs? No. Why? I don’t care, she is totally irrelevant to me.

RobertInLexington on April 25, 2009 at 10:03 PM

No, you keep giving her a platform. Look at the newspaper (New York Post).

You want to rebuild your party but you can’t get go of the past. Sarah Palin represents the past of your party. The party of gimmicks and contradictions.

You want a small government yet you support some of the biggest increases in the military budget. You “represent values and morals” yet you fiercely defend the use of torture.

ckoeber on April 25, 2009 at 10:13 PM

I thought getaclue was self banned.

Cindy Munford on April 25, 2009 at 9:55 PM

Like all libtard promises, his come with expiration dates….

Fighton03 on April 25, 2009 at 10:13 PM

Ouch! That ditz couldn’t be…

benny shakar on April 25, 2009 at 9:50 PM

Whoa, slow down there, buttboy. I believe she’s a governor, and you are … what? A busboy? An elementary Ed teacher?

Jaibones on April 25, 2009 at 10:13 PM

If we take out Newt G. for you will you focus more on her?

He already took himself out so no need. Stood w/ Pelosi on global warming. Was dissing his wife while calling out Clinton for what he himself was doing. No self-respecting, principled conservative takes him seriously. Just background noise.

There were several factors why her AG was shot down in the nomination process. The AG made some controversial comments that he shouldn’t have within days of nomination process. Native groups and fishing groups in Alaska were gunning hard to derail the AG’s nomination.

it’s called the swine flu. or the Katie Couric flu as i like to call it.

I thought it was the Joy Behar flu.

msmveritas on April 25, 2009 at 10:12 PM

It depends on what the meaning of “ban” is.

All liberal words have evolving meanings. The liberal dictionary is a living document.

Maybe because he was actually serious when he talked about bi-partisanship?

ckoeber on April 25, 2009 at 9:58 PM

I’m with you – I just don’t understand it … I mean … he invited them to the White House, gave ‘em all a beer and said “Nanny, Nanny, Boo-Boo I WON!”

I mean – it doesn’t get any more bipartisan than that. Those damned Republicans should be taken out and shot!

HondaV65 on April 25, 2009 at 10:16 PM

Maybe because he was actually serious when he talked about bi-partisanship?

You are contradicting yourself. Yes, he has the power to ram bills through YET he stopped to offer you a hand. You spit on the hand and now you complain about it.

ckoeber on April 25, 2009 at 9:58 PM

and maybe there are leprechauns and unicorns at the end of your rainbow.

Obama’s version of bipartisanship: I WON.

Nancy Peliars version: Let’s do it my way.

Details cons, details.

Time Traveler:

Talk about a ridiculous straw man on WAR.

We know Sarah hit paydirt or struck gold with her comments. The trolls are out in full force on a Saturday night.

technopeasant on April 25, 2009 at 10:17 PM

It’s some obscure local fishing issues.

I see that the trolls have graduated from Levi to WAR. Dude, stuff happens in politics. Are you seriously suggesting that her national profile in GOP is threatened because one of her nominees was shut down? Do you know how many of Obama’s nominees were shut down or otherwise found delinquent? Last I checked, he’s still the President.

promachus on April 25, 2009 at 10:10 PM

No, it was how she handled the Nomination that’s hurting her. She is constantly leaving the state for irrelevant dinners and other speaking engagements.
