Former CIA chief Goss: I can’t believe what a shameless liar Pelosi is
posted at 1:53 pm on April 25, 2009 by Allahpundit
Believe it, champ. And welcome to the club.
He doesn’t name any names but there’s no question who he’s aiming at.
Today, I am slack-jawed to read that members claim to have not understood that the techniques on which they were briefed were to actually be employed; or that specific techniques such as “waterboarding” were never mentioned. It must be hard for most Americans of common sense to imagine how a member of Congress can forget being told about the interrogations of Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed. In that case, though, perhaps it is not amnesia but political expedience.
Let me be clear. It is my recollection that:
– The chairs and the ranking minority members of the House and Senate intelligence committees, known as the Gang of Four, were briefed that the CIA was holding and interrogating high-value terrorists.
– We understood what the CIA was doing.
– We gave the CIA our bipartisan support.
– We gave the CIA funding to carry out its activities.
– On a bipartisan basis, we asked if the CIA needed more support from Congress to carry out its mission against al-Qaeda.
I do not recall a single objection from my colleagues.
The ranking Democratic member on the House intel committee in 2002 was, of course, Madam Speaker. There’s lots more at the link, often in biting language; you’re cheating yourself if you don’t read it all. Goss is opposed, naturally, to show trials on interrogation practices, but then so is 58 percent of the public, just the latest reminder that the nutroots position on this subject is fringe and that they’re destined to have their hearts broken by The One. I wonder if Team Barry will reach out to Cheney and offer him a deal: In exchange for him not releasing those two memos he’s after to prove that torture works, they’ll promise not to prosecute anyone who acted on Bush’s orders. Would Cheney take that deal, though? It depends, I guess, on how much he values his own legacy versus his loyalty to the people who implemented the policy. And, maybe, whether he’s coming around to the Noemie Emery position that torture trials wouldn’t be such a bad thing for the Bushies after all.

Bro … it’s ALL our business. When the stinky stuff hits the fan – ANYWHERE – in the world, who do they call? It is utterly unfair that my uncle died trying to liberate Belgium because the Europeans enabled Hitler for so long. What you don’t understand – is that America gets “called in” sooner or later – and if it’s sooner then WE lose less of our people. If it’s later – we lose MANY. There was nothing wrong with America stepping in to stabilize Iran – and stabilize it we did.
The problem with you – is you’re utterly misinformed and try to apply kindergarten morality with the evil world at large.
The Shah was a damned good ally. So good that we trained Iranian military officers. We trained Iranian pilots. We sold Iran F-15′s (which were our most advanced fighters at the time). We built our most advanced Spruance Destroyers for the Iranian Navy.
But Carter blew it. He put pressure on the Shah to lighten up on human rights violations – and as a result – we got the Ayatollahs and two generations of Islamofascism (thank you Jimmy Carter). And are the human rights violations any less frequent in Iran now? Nope – they are worse. All Jimmy did was change out an oppressive Pro-American Government for an EXTREMELY oppressive Anti-American one.
One that will soon attack Israel.
The Shah was awesome.

The way this works is that the Democrats okay something for as long as it is needed or expedient and then when it is not, they revise history and demonize everyone else.
They do it all the time.
There is a word for it, demagoguery.
The CIA waterboarded 3 people several years ago. The practice was so rare that it was not even done in the 3 years preceding legislation in 2006 that almost banned it. I say almost because even now, there are circumstances in which enhanced interrogation is allowed.
The liberals of course do not really give a damn about this now anymore than they did in 2002, they just see an opportunity to be self righteous a**holes and can’t pass it up. It is useful to them to pretend moral outrage.

They do not want our troops tortured in future wars.
Support the troops.

So, if we stop waterboarding, then terrorists who capture our troops will offer them a tylenol after the peeling away of their flesh with plyers and a blow tourch?
Sounds like a fair trade.

So, I don’t support torture, but you and your ilk support defining all sorts of things you really know nothing about as torture so that you can posture and preen and pretend you care about the troops.

TNR…isn’t that the home of all that bogus reporting from Iraq a while back? Some idiot named Scott Beauchamp who became the darling of the Left because they so very much wanted to believe his fabrications (lies) and he was actually there…actually was a first hand witness to it all…and then was discovered to be a complete charlatan…and his stories, total and complete out of whole cloth lies.
That TNR?
Whatever happen to Beauchamp? He get a job in the Obama Administration?

BTW getahusband’s General who claims torture at Abu Ghraib is definitely a Leftist Democrat-at present the Officer Corps in all branches of the military skews 7:1 Republican.
Taguba is the 1 in 7.
It’s also highly interesting to note that he is an O’bama voter, as (gee, what a surprise) he and his family moved to (gulp) the exact same island O’bama claims to have been born on, the exact same year Barry was supposedly born there. 1961, to be exact.
And surprise number 2-Taguba also served under another Hawaiian 1 in 7, , General Eric Shineski, now an O’bama lackey.
I’ll be driving by Claude Rains’ grave tomorrow and will pass this info along. I’m sure he will be shocked.
Claude BTW served his country (Britain) well in the first World War, even getting gassed by the Germans.
Del Dolemonte on April 25, 2009 at 9:23 PM
Here’s the problem…partisan hacks like us are a very small minority. Most Americans don’t browse conservative or liberal sites like Daily Kos. They’ll be getting their info from the evening news and Yahoo News online etc.(Just like every single person I know and work with.) When they see the thousands of God awful pictures from various prisons…they aren’t going to be buying that line “it was just a few bad apples” anymore.
beekiller on April 25, 2009 at 9:23 PM
My question is this…
Didn’t we as a nation already deal with this? I remember when the pictures went viral a few years ago. Why was no one who is crying now was crying then. Why did they stop? Was it the vast right wing media who was so in the tank for Bush, did they just decide it was a non story?
This is all a big distraction from what is really going on.
RobertInLexington on April 25, 2009 at 9:28 PM
Yeah, we dealt with it by putting soldiers in prison and ruining their lives and all I can say is that “if” they were following orders…and “if” they took the fall for something they were ordered to do…some people high up are punk ass cowardly bitches. If it turns out to be at many prisons and many of our soldiers…sorry but I have a hard time believing that we have that many sadistic men and women in our military. I care about the soldiers and don’t give a damn about ANY of the politicians.

getalife on April 25, 2009 at 10:03 PM
This post is going to anger a few…perhaps more…
No, it is no stretch to imagine, and perhaps find examples abundant, that show that sadistic men and women in parts of our military are, while rare, still enough to cause havoc.
If you get a bit of free time…take a look at the composition of the 800th MP Brigade [EPW] at the time they served in Iraq, and were in charge of Abu Ghraib. Look at those who were charged with sadistic treatment of prisoners at Abu Ghraib…none were exactly what you would call the cream of the crop…far far less. These guys did it all for fun…and lied about all of it to cover their sadism. All of this is a matter of record.
From Karpinski, the brigade commander, on down, seems that whatever went on at Abu Ghraib, as in Vegas, was supposed to stay in Abu Ghraib. And Karpinski never set foot inside Abu Ghraib where all that bad stuff happened. That is dereliction of duty in a nutshell.
And she still claims, despite sworn testimony that shows otherwise, to include Taguba who is now spinning another tune, as well, that she had “orders” to treat the prisoners this way, or at least those in her charge “had orders” to do so?
Thought Justice Jackson pretty much covered this at Nurnberg.
coldwarrior on April 25, 2009 at 10:09 PM
I’ll wait to see when the pictures come out. It will be a very hard sell to most Americans that many or all prisons coincidentally operated by hooding prisoners and making them do all sorts of pervy things with dogs…homosexual acts etc.
And I will take the soldiers words over any yellow politician any day. That is all for now.
beekiller on April 25, 2009 at 10:20 PM
Then next time you plan this ruse (which I seem to recall you have done before, in a fit of pique), you might call it “suspending yourself,” rather than “banning yourself,” which implies the permanent absence of yourself.

darwin-t on April 25, 2009 at 10:50 PM
Food for thought, that’s for sure.
Hillary announces with fanfare that the United States stands behind Iraq, and that things in Iraq are going in the right direction…then, whammo…release old photos of events from several years ago, the Arab street goes nuts, once again, and conditions in Iraq crumble in a blaze of anti_US violence…giving us no option but to get the hell out, Blackhawks and Ospreys landing all over the Green Zone evacuating US personnel, other US forces force marching their way under battle conditions into Turkey, Jordan, or Kuwait, facing huge angry mobs…round the clock C-17 flights in and out of Balad, Al-Assad, al-Muthana and even open stretches of highway, scooping up American service members, leaving equipment behind…
And Obama can then say, with a straight face, as can Hillary…”Well, we tried, we tried real hard to clean up Bush’s mess.”
And the rest, as they say, is history.
Just playing with a scenario. :-)

That seems a bit over the top. I mean really. And I doubt if they would have gotten a bunch of guys in the Reserves who were not even that committed to a career to put in that position.
However, I would not doubt that there might be some copy catting going on. This sort of behavior is wrong and should be punished, but it is not terribly original, if you see what I mean.

coldwarrior on April 25, 2009 at 11:32 PM
coldwarrior:
Yes. Indeed. I guess we may never know all the stuff that went on there, but it would seem to me that if the military had ordered all that, there would have been greater efforts made to keep it secret and if they had ordered all that I doubt if there would be any pictures to release.
After all, if they were capable of lying about ordering the abuse, I think they would be capable of destroying some pictures.
Terrye on April 25, 2009 at 11:35 PM
I just googled it and according to the Baltimore Sun, 44 pics will be released on May 28th.
That will give the press something to talk about so they won’t notice what Obama is up to. I bet they are also hoping to take the steam out of the Tea Parties. Change the subject. Distract the sheeple.
Terrye on April 25, 2009 at 11:40 PM
The original release/leak of the Abu Ghraib photos was due to one soldier’s disgust at what he had seen, if I recall.
If there was an “order” to do these sadistic things…by this time, we’d have had the full name, rank, service number of any and all who ordered such…
If the military actively engaged in suppressing such things…it’d have been out already.
Conspiracy theorists too often to neglect that conspiracies require people. People have differing needs or loyalties over time. Unless one eliminates all players to a conspiracy…it’ll get out…eventually.
I still find the release of even these 44 photos to be gratuitous. Has no probative value at all. None.
coldwarrior on April 25, 2009 at 11:47 PM
coldwarrior:
Yes, keeping a secret is hard for one person, for hundreds it is impossible.
If I remember correctly a soldier went to a superior officer to report what he had seen and when it was investigated and charges were brought, a relative went to the military and said that if the charges were not dropped pictures would be released. The military refused to drop the charges and the pictures ended up on CBS news.

itsspideyman on April 26, 2009 at 12:26 AM
The 44 pictures are the ones in question in a legal battle with ACLU. The Pentagon will be releasing more with those and they say those will number in the hundreds. But they also say that these will prove they were always serious about investigating allegations of abuse and did take legal and disciplinary action against those found guilty of abuse. Not quite the same thing at all as condoning it or promoting it. Here’s the Yahoo piece on it.

Why hasn’t Pelosi been hanged for treason yet?

Because no one in the GOP has the guts to oppose the National Socialist Democrats.

Nancy Pelosi is simply butt-stupid.
It’s would be easy to think that she is the personification of evil.
But she is just too stupid to recognize evil when she sees it.

These guys really do hate the military, don’t they?

I read somewhere that these security meetings are kept secret, that no (personal) notes are allowed to be taken, and no discussion of them should take place.
This makes it a perfect cover for someone to say “It wasn’t said”.
The security council notes have been found in the past not to be part of the Freedom of Information arena.

Nancy Pelosi is a terrible liar, all liberals are liars, all conservatives are great Americans. Pelosi is a commie, conservatives are patriotic. Goopers, can’t you come up with some new lines. All your lines are so 2004. You lost the last 2 elections. Shouldn’t you come up with some new material? Fire your writers and hire some new blood. Nobody likes you guys anymore, face up and carry on.

Ah, getalife. When I heard you had banned yourself, I was worried I would never get your response to my rebuttal.
So, when is it going to be.?
