Comedy gold: “Auto-Tune the News”
posted at 11:30 am on April 25, 2009 by Allahpundit
Alternate title: “If T-Pain ran CNN.” Stupidity is easy, brilliance is hard, both at the same time is magic: South Park falls squarely into the third category, and so does this. I can’t fathom how they came up with it, whether they picked the clips and wrote the music around it, wrote the music first and then went looking for clips, or some third possibility. Their first try in this vein wasn’t nearly as good, but this one’s perfection; make sure to read the lyrics in the sidebar at YouTube, too. Are they using the music to satirize the conventions of TV news or the news to satirize the conventions of this genre of hip-hop? I think both. Awesome.
The purest stroke of genius is, of course, the Katie Couric clip, but my favorite is the one with Hannity. You’re a great American, angry gorilla.

That was amazing. Genius.
How about auto tuning Carrie’s un-PC answer at the Miss America pageant?

First one is good also, the double interview bit at the end kills.

I’m with Dorian and winkle. there was a minute or two I will never get back.
conservnut on April 25, 2009 at 11:58 AM
That was disturbing, but Couric amused me. What was up with the dude in the gorilla suit? At first I thought it was Bob Beckel.
Sign of the Dollar on April 25, 2009 at 11:58 AM
Mildly amusing, at best . . .
Brilliance, perfection, genius? Huh??
califcon on April 25, 2009 at 11:58 AM
See? Like SP, this is funnie to everyone.
Crowder and Zo just aren’t….they try too hard or sumpin.
Like Kyle said, either it’s all ok to make fun of, or none of it is.

You got that right! I had some clown ask me if I would use it on his vocal track, I told him to go back to making fries at McDonalds and never come to my studio again unless he could sing on key.
The video was funny.

This is so awesome. I kind of love T-Pain. If you’ve ever seen that video Andy Samberg did with T-Pain – “I’m on a Boat,” man that thing is awesome.
This is better. The Katie Couric part was the best.
Proud Rino on April 25, 2009 at 12:05 PM
It reminds me of an SNL skit. Which is to say, it was horribly stupid.

It’s nonsense like this that is going to drive me to other news sites. I come here for rational intelligent dialog from a mere conservative perspective, not this. I’ll be signing off for the rest of the week. Someone e-mail me if adults start running this sight again.

doriangrey on April 25, 2009 at 12:18 PM
If all the clips were as good as Katie’s it would qualify as art.
Griz on April 25, 2009 at 12:19 PM
The following is true:
T-Pain was involved in a golf-cart accident on March 27, 2009. He suffered cuts, bruises, and four missing teeth and had emergency dental work done. He returned to performing on March 29, 2009, where he said:
“There’s a lot of talk that I flipped over in a golf cart, that’s f****** true. It did happen like three days ago. My a** is on fire right now. My side hurt, my mouth hurt… I bust my a**. I’d show you the marks, but I don’t wanna pull my pants down right now… I got my teeth fixed the same day. Rich n**** teeth.”
What a priceless clown.
Dr. Manhattan on April 25, 2009 at 12:20 PM

Aaarrrrggghhhh, nooooooooo! I’ve changed my mind — it’s the funniest thing I ever saw in my life. I’ll be laughing helplessly until at least Tuesday.
califcon on April 25, 2009 at 12:22 PM
And if most libs realized that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are registered Republicans, they’d sh*t bricks.
TheMightyMonarch on April 25, 2009 at 12:22 PM
You can send me the tracks and I’ll mix and master then. The guy that plays lead for me is in England, he records his tracks and uploads them to me.

Spirit of 1776 on April 25, 2009 at 12:24 PM
Cleverness was mediocre.
Teh funny was sub-Meh.
/AP must’ve missed the memo–we are now the terrorists. But he’s right, we are winning!
Christien on April 25, 2009 at 12:25 PM
I once read that neither of them vote because they’d just cancel each other out. I always thought Trey Parker was the libertarian and Matt Stone was the liberal. I could be wrong or maybe they’re both right wingers now, I don’t really follow the show anymore since it started getting preachy.
Proud Rino on April 25, 2009 at 12:25 PM
I probably will change my registration to independent before the next election, though.
strangelet on April 25, 2009 at 12:26 PM
no..when they started……Trey was Stan and Matt was Kyle….now they are both Cartman.
;)
strangelet on April 25, 2009 at 12:28 PM
Funny, but it made me realize I need a hearing aid.
Or some sort of hip-hop re-generational implant. I’m not sure.
Greg Toombs on April 25, 2009 at 12:29 PM
ROTFLMAO… If I could do that I wouldn’t need a recording studio… ;p Oh, and I can smoke your lead dude any day of the week… ;)
doriangrey on April 25, 2009 at 12:30 PM
Would one of these incorporating Cher’s ‘Believe’ be next?
Obama lipsynching to ‘Believe’. Oh my.
Greg Toombs on April 25, 2009 at 12:33 PM
Funny. For those who don’t think so, you might as well call Palin white trash.
Weight of Glory on April 25, 2009 at 12:33 PM
That was amazing, lol.
And I love all the people on here who are like, “meh.” As if they could come up with anything half as clever or creative as this. Haters are funny.

ugghhh
Now there’s dweeb on my shoe.
Stephen M on April 25, 2009 at 12:33 PM
Outside of seeing Couric’s speech patterns de-evolved into mindless hip-hop lyrics, it sucked.
smfoushee on April 25, 2009 at 12:36 PM
I went and gave you a listen, nice.
I am going to start another project for myself soon, you want to play on some of the tracks?
My last project was a home recording. If I need vocals done I use another studio, I live next to the airport and the F-15s kind of make a lot of noise.
Old Hippie Vet on April 25, 2009 at 12:40 PM
I don’t know, if your getting rave reviews from strangleit, then you might want to re-think things.
/I found it mildly amusing
AZfederalist on April 25, 2009 at 12:42 PM
OK, now that was funny
AZfederalist on April 25, 2009 at 12:43 PM
Couric was right in here about one thing, we’re on thin ice.
It was interesting anyway, I didn’t turn it off halfway through as usual with this kind of thing.
Spiritk9 on April 25, 2009 at 12:43 PM
I’d love to, if I knew how… ;O
doriangrey on April 25, 2009 at 12:45 PM
It’s amazing that Autotune has even entered the public lexicon…it has been a mix engineer and producers geek tool for over 10 years now. I use it in my studio…anyone who is anyone in the industry has it in their toolbox. A little secret….99% of ALL of today’s commercially recorded and mixed vocals get some level of Autotune treatment…obviously not all get the hyper-tall pitch shift settings that has become popular. Cher was the first commercial hit with these “tall” settings with the song “Believe”.
starman on April 25, 2009 at 12:47 PM
I thought it was hilarious.
My teenagers thought it was a scream.
We need laughter soooooo much!

The fact that so many supposedly intelligent people that visit here find this entertaining or even watchable scares the crap out of me. That’s 2 minutes and 40 seconds of my life I will never get back, and boy am I pissed about that. I didn’t find it appealing in any sense.
“If you guys don’t find this clip funny then the terrorists have already won.”
WTF does that mean?

It made me laugh.
See ya.

It’s Allahpundit at his best doing exactly what it is that Michelle pays him to do. Using self deprecating humor to motivate people to comment on an insanely inane topic.
doriangrey on April 25, 2009 at 12:53 PM
Ok, the best part was with Couric however, I did find the whole thing unappealing.

bridgetown on April 25, 2009 at 12:58 PM
“then the terrorists have one” is a phrase that’s been attributed to sillier and sillier things that have nothing to do with terrorists winning over the years. It actually started quite seriously.

Even though I’m shaking off a slight hangover.
I think the terrorist have already won.

Gak… Your sense of humor is as deranged as AP’s… ;p
doriangrey on April 25, 2009 at 1:13 PM
Very clever clip. However, it was racist showing a gorilla with a red tie, eating a banana, in the midst of other clips showing white women. Everyone knows that monkeys with ties (or even gorillas) symbolize African Americans, and who is the biggest African American in the news, Mr. Obama. So this clip was racist showing Mr. Obama as a gorilla in the midst of available white women. The writers/director/
producers should be thrown in jail.
