Second look at Gitmo?

Barack Obama promised to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay as soon as he took office for almost two years on the campaign trail, and he made that one of his first actions when he assumed office. Now, suddenly, Obama has discovered what we all knew the entire time — that closing Gitmo means sending terrorists back to countries that won’t secure them, especially Yemen. Now they don’t have a Plan B for some of the worst of the worst:
The Obama administration’s effort to return the largest group of Guantánamo detainees to Yemen, their home country, has stalled, creating a major new hurdle for the president’s plan to close the prison camp in Cuba by next January, American and Yemeni officials say.
“We’re at a complete impasse,” said one American official who is involved in the issue, speaking without authorization. “I don’t know that there’s a viable ‘Plan B.’ ”
The Yemeni government has asked Washington to return its detainees and has said it would need substantial aid to rehabilitate the men. But the Obama administration is increasingly skeptical of Yemen’s ability to provide adequate rehabilitation and security to supervise returned prisoners. In addition, American officials are wary of sending detainees to Yemen because of growing indications of Al Qaeda activity there.
In other words, Yemen wants us to pay them for the privilege of releasing the Gitmo detainees into their custody, and in return, they won’t even promise to keep an eye on them. Yemen has already proven itself a revolving door for al-Qaeda terrorists released into their custody. Now they want us to pay for the grease on the wheels, and all so that we can let the Gitmo Yemenis get back to the business of plotting to kill Americans.
In fact, they want $100 million, which is perhaps not coincidentally the same amount of money Obama asked his cabinet to find in savings this week. What a bargain! We can release terrorists so that they can try killing more of us, and pay $100 million for that privilege.
But at least the world would love us. They’d be laughing at us, but they’d love the gallows humor.
How many Yemenis remain at Gitmo? Not just one or two or ten, but 97 Yemenis. That’s about 40% of the inmates at Gitmo. No one else in their right mind would take them, certainly not without some sort of payoff, and they’re the last people we want to bring inside the US.
Now, the Obama administration admits they have no Plan B. No wonder; it took Obama more than two years to discover what most of us had been screaming at the top of our lungs about Yemen and the terrorists. It will take at least that long for a viable Plan B to occur to them — which would to just keep Gitmo open and conduct the military tribunals that Congress authorized twice.

If the Obamination learns the simple concept of keeping truly bad guys out of any society, then he will build a new detention center in some other Carribean nation, transfer Gitmo prisoners there, shut down Gitmo, and claim success.
He will then once again be all things to all people and his popularity will be high among the sheeple masses. Reality-based people (conservatives) will still see through him but it will matter not with the MSM licking his boots.

Kinda easy to read the tea leaves on how this was going to wind up.

What makes those yumpin’ Yemeni’s so significant is that all of them can be traced to the original AQ structure going back to UBL’s Sudan days…either by family or tribe. They are not going to rehabilitate. That is a given.
And the present Yemeni “government” is infiltrated in all quarters with most of the same family and tribal members, so once they arrive back in San’a, they’ll be out on the street and elsewhere within a few days, if that.
It is Yemeni shakedown, nothing less. The funds received, if Obama pays them off, will end up financing Yemeni AQ efforts in Yemen, across the Red Sea in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Somalia, as well, and also within Saudi Arabia. A long time and ongoing Yemeni effort. Remember as well…UBL is a Yemeni first, a former Saudi, second.
Nice deal. Bet the Saudi’s are keen to this repatriation thingie.
This is where Obama’s campaign rhetoric is proving itself, yet again. Sounds all nice, but in reality…well, reality bites.

Sounds right to me. LOL Seems he and all those he has appointed have no common sense. Don’t know when that 3am telephone call will come. I think he should just let the answering machine get it because he will not have a clue for what he should do. Unless maybe there is a pre-written list of responses he can choose from.

Although, what’s the point of negotiating with Yemen, anyway? Even if they don’t ask for money, we know they won’t keep the detainees from wandering to kill people.
Oh, that’s right. Obama’s sparkling personality will make Yemen supervise the terrorists better.

Ok. Let’s see.
1)Executive order to ban lobbyists, only to then fill his cabinet with lobbyists.
2) Orders the closure of GITMO without first thinking about a viable plan B.
3) Snubs our best allies while glad handing dictatorial thugs.
4) Bows before the Sauds.
5) Refuses to disclose who received TARP money, while promising transparency
5) Nominating tax cheats for many cabinet positions, while defending a tax cheat for the Treas Sec. position, all in the “Era of Responsibility”.
6) Manages to classify half the country as “Right-wing” extremists, while claiming to be a unifier.
7) Doubles the deficit, while complaining about the deficit he inherited.
8) Mockingly “cut” 100 million dollars from a budget that he increased by three trillion.
9) Signed the largest spending bill into law, without a single person actually reading it, while promising not to sign a bill without it being made public for reading for at least five days.
10) Promised not to continue signing statements, while issuing signing statements.
11) Has maintained absolutely no oversight over that 850 billion dollar bill, even though he promised strict oversight.
12) Fomented class warfare over AIG bonuses, even though his very own administration both knew about the bonuses and made sure they were kept in the final bill.
This has been a horrible 100 days. This is a horrible, lying president, and this is a horribly corrupt administration. What they lack in malevolence, they make up for in dangerous stupidity. Isreal is left hanging; North Korea is launching missiles in defiance while kicking out weapons inspectors; Russia is poised for Georgia; South America is rabidly out of control. The children are in charge. Gird your loins, indeed.

Rather than fix anything, Obama has taken the nation’s problems and made them worse. He has placed a gun to the heads of our future generations to pay for his reckless spending, and out of control power grabs. He’s brought change indeed, for the worse.

No wonder Obama was telling members of his cabinet to find savings of $100 million. He’s already got a use for that amount. What a boondoggle.
Here’s my solution. They get a choice from three alternatives: firing squad; gladiator matches in the new Yankee stadium; or 20 minutes in UFC ring with two special forces types and five adult survivors of 9/11 victims–and no tap outs.
BuckeyeSam on April 23, 2009 at 9:57 PM
Obama’s choice is to keep America safe or cave to his socialist base. The decision to close Gitmo was a promise he made to them if they got him elected and he has to keep it for his own political survival. But releasing these Islamic terrorists will certainly cost some Americans their survival.

The most ironic part of the article is
The Yemeni government has asked Washington to return its detainees and has said it would need substantial aid to rehabilitate the men.
Considering that the term rehabilitate implies returning a person or thing to its original state. Didn’t these people come to U.S. in their original state a terrorist.
So the Yemeni government wants U.S. to give them back their terrorists and supply them large amounts of funds to dig them a new hole, created when they made and tested their first bomb that did not work as designed.
So far, President Obama has shown U.S. his management style, speak first, act, and think much later.
MSGTAS on April 24, 2009 at 10:19 AM
Apparently there’s an unused prison sitting near Hardin, Mt. that would be the perfect place to transfer the detainees to. It would bring some jobs to the area also. It is near a rez so minorities could fill some of the jobs. Sen. Baucus is on record, however, against it as he wouldn’t like to see terrorists in Montana. Wait a minute, he called them terrorists. Guess he didn’t get the memo from Janet.
Kissmygrits on April 24, 2009 at 11:03 AM
