Bush doctrine has nothing to do with imposing a JudeoChristian democracy, or else both Iraq and Afghanistan wouldn’t have elements of Sharia in their constitutions.

That doesn’t surprise me. I voted Gore in my first election, back when I was idealistic and really didn’t understand just how the world worked. You may one day come around to realize you’re smart enough to know how to spend your own money and live your own life.

If the GOP can’t wrest control of the House or Senate by 2016 the nation is pretty much screwed. We’ll have so much debt and and inflation that the average American won’t be able to survive without handouts. Middle class income won’t be able to buy nights out for dinner and a movie, let alone iPhones and plasms tv’s.

We’re facing the very real prospect of the generation being born today having, for the first time in our history, a lower quality of life than their parents.

The GOP has to vote no and hold the line wherever they can. Once a program like universal health care is in place it becomes impossible to undo. Once a population passes a tipping point where a majority of it pays no taxes that can never be undone. These are literally unprecedented times in our history.

I’m sure you’ve seen the charts of the current and projected defecits. That’s horrible for the nation, no matter how much it helps either party in the short term.

They need the warm bodies because of the very demographic implosion that you are talking about. That, and the “noble savage” chic attitude towards the Middle East, capped off with enduring Euro anti-semitism, goes far to explaining what is going on over there.

The Euro-elites feel that they will always have the whip hand, and they don’t have to live with the consequences of their policies.

We’re headed for much rougher waters in the next year, I believe. Many countries are repeating the exact same mistakes of the Great Depression. Britain is raising its top tax rate to 50%. We not far behind. President Obama, to his credit, seems willing to move forward on the trade agreement with Columbia, but that’s close to the only thing he’s done that hasn’t been a retread of Great Depression style manuevers.

Sunni and Shia quibble about details. Muslims and Hindus don’t agree on anything foundational, so the difference in the latter case is even more extreme.

But there is an infinite supply of toothpaste.
Look at muslim birthrates.
We don’t have an infinite supply of blood and treasure.

And that’s the sad, harsh reality of what we’re up against. Western birthrates are declining. Europe’s only population growth now comes from immigration, most of it from Mulim nations (why they haven’t tried to stop that is beyond me).

I’m curious what your alternatives are at this point. You seem much smarter than our average lefty resident, so I’m assuming you have some kind of plan you think would work better than the current one. Or are we destined to just sit back and let the world slowly go to hell?

And the whole ‘Bush Doctrine’ thing is kind of stupid anyway. There’s several defenitions for it, none of which were crafted by Bush himself. But I’m sure you already knew that.

All versions of the Bush Doctrine are consistant on the premise that removing the substrate (and replacing it with judeochristian democracy) that nutures terrorists will end terrorism.
But burning down the jihaadi factory only works if you can get ALL the jihaadi factories.

The great irony is that Pakistan/India is a test case for how wrong racism is. They’re basically the same people, ethnically, but with two different ideologies.

We’re hitting, and killing, plenty of bad guys. But our enemies know full well the constructs we have to fight in (which I think we should, for the most part, be fighting within). They’re well aware that we can’t move full force into Pakistan and they’re taking full advantage of it.

There were a lot of laid-off whalers when it was discovered that you could get oil from the ground. I don’t recall us having socialism for them.

Besides, I thought the left was all about “the dignity of labor” and now you’re saying that we should let people stay on the dole indefinitely?

Autoworkers are a special case because they were almost always overpaid relative to their human capital, due to unionization in a high-fixed cost industry where work stoppages cost shareholders huge amounts of money.
