New Miss USA: I’m totally pro-gay marriage
posted at 4:05 pm on April 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
Not true, actually: She supports some form of legal recognition for gay couples but punts on the marriage label, leaving us to wonder whether she also qualifies as a “dumb bitch”. Imagine what pure spun comedy gold it would have been if she opposed gay marriage, too. No doubt the inevitable semen-stain photoshop of her on Perez Hilton’s site would have been extra semen-y.
Skip ahead to 2:05. Her answer’s probably good enough to satisfy the D-list parasites who are dumping on Miss California for not telling them what they want to hear; if she’s bothered at all by the fact that she won only because the judges were biased against her competition, she’s not showing it. I actually prefer her to Miss Cali on pure aesthetics, for what it’s worth.

Woulda been a lot better without the unnecessary body-humour reference, AP.
Still, this doesn’t justify Perez Hilton’s actions a bit.
KingGold on April 22, 2009 at 4:08 PM
Well, then she is the “perfect” Miss USA – who’s views don’t exactly match the majority of Americans
Wow, it is like she’s the female Obama!
(Yeah, he won the most votes of those who voted…not the same as having the majority of Americans behind you.)

I’ll second that. I wonder if AP needs to warn himself about the level of discourse…

Congratulations! You have just won the much coveted admiration of the obnoxious vulgar Perez Hilton. You should be so proud.

Well, if she wants to support gay marriage that is her choice but where does she stand on carbon dioxide and global warming? Did anyone ask her how much excess carbon dioxide two sweaty men in San Francisco produce? The nation, no the world, is in peril.
Limerick on April 22, 2009 at 4:11 PM
I’ll bet she wants world peace too.
BacaDog on April 22, 2009 at 4:12 PM
The courage of her convictions, or pandering out of fear of retribution?
capejasmine on April 22, 2009 at 4:12 PM
” Although Barack Obama has said that he supports civil unions, he is against gay marriage. In an interview with the Chicago Daily Tribune, Obama said, “I’m a Christian. And so, although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition, and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman.” “

Her answer is not that different from Miss CA.
Gays already had the legal recognition in Vermont which was Perez’s example. The rest was just the label.
He should be just as upset with Miss NC as Miss CA.

Perhaps this will be a lesson to the Left about who really is tolerant?

katiejane on April 22, 2009 at 4:16 PM
Not that I give more than a milli-second of concern over gay marriage mind you, but no one’s ever been able to answer this question I have.
“How does a gay couple getting married have any affect on my marriage?
Now, I’m a hetero Alpha type, and I admit to being revulsed by what gays do to each other, but, if they wanna play house and be little suburbanites happy and monogamous like I am, what do I freakin care?
Although, the monogamy thing isn’t very well adhered to in the Hetero world either, that may not be the breakpoint here.
44Magnum on April 22, 2009 at 4:16 PM
That pretty much sums up this non-story.

That’s sooooo vulgar. Beyond my comprehension. Why in Gods name would anyone want him judging anything? Gross!!!

Sorry, I sit corrected. I apologize, I wondered why you were putting all that in there. I’ve never visited the site.
kybowexar on April 22, 2009 at 4:17 PM
What??? Noone here seems to share that view, but the fact that you find Meghan McCain attractive seems to explain a lot of things.

How would you know? I stay away from useless sites myself; that’s also why I avoid HuffPo and whatever Frum’s site is called.
Snowed In on April 22, 2009 at 4:18 PM
OMG – I just made a Meghan McCain looks reference. Please delete! Shows you what happens when you get on this topic. I actually think Ms McCain’s attractive and takes a great picture. It’s the total package. Ms Kali wins both aesthetically and on the total package – it’s the total package that turns her greater heat into way-ness.

Now, if the judges had been anti-Semitic NAZIs, Arabs, skinheads, whatever, and the question had been about segregation or the like, then would it have been PC to rant away against zionism, or would standing up for what someone believes in be a losing proposition as well?
VERY curious if these judges who voted against her because of her gay marriage answer voted for Obama DESPITE his gay marriage position?

Sillier and sillier.

The pro gay marriage banshees have set themselves back by eons. We passed Prop 8 in November and we will keep it as the law in California FOREVER!
savvydude on April 22, 2009 at 4:23 PM
Is Miss USA REALLY that important to you people? Really?
If the gay marriage question never came up (OK, insert joke there) no one here would probably even know the pageant even happened, or who Miss Cali even was or looked like.
JetBoy on April 22, 2009 at 4:24 PM
Hey, the right lady won (I didn’t even see “the question” until much later). I might be biased, I live in NC.
c.u.shoeless on April 22, 2009 at 4:25 PM
of course that’s not true. Take it from someone who watched the competition and saw EVERY SCORE ON THE SCREEN DURING THE COMPETITION. Seriously people act like it’s some secret ballot.
Miss NC was ahead on both of the two preceding contests. . . BEFORE THE QUESTIONS. Believe me, I was surprised. . . that’s how I know. I figured they’d give it to a bigger state like usual.
Everyone says that’s what cost her. . . but she wasn’t ahead going into the last round. She was second so it must not have cost Miss CA much if any.

PrincipledPilgrim on April 22, 2009 at 4:26 PM
I think it’s more about the bashing she received aftewards and is apparently continuing with the Hollywood crowd. She gave her opinion and it was trashed. The sense of fair play is unbalanced, once again.
sherry on April 22, 2009 at 4:27 PM
Reminds me of that old anecdote about George Bernard Shaw (I think it was Shaw). He was sitting next to a woman at a dinner party and asked if she’d sleep with him for a million pounds. She said yes. Then he said what about ten pounds.
“What do you think I am?” she replied angrily.
“We’ve already established that,” Shaw responded. “Now we’re just negotiating your price.”
Given the right price/prize the new Miss USA puts out (the PC line, at least).
Wethal on April 22, 2009 at 4:27 PM

I share it. I think they’re both of equal hotness but still would have picked Miss USA on looks alone.

In the HotAir spirit of April Fool’s day, can we use Miss Cali’s picture on all stories on May Day? That might get the workers of the world to unite.
WashJeff on April 22, 2009 at 4:31 PM
and I’m certain the Donald has told them how to address this issue. The Donald is in control. And as I said on the other thread, it doesn’t really matter what these beauty contestants think. Their opinion isn’t any more or less important than anyone else’s. Miss Cali got attention because people agreed with her here. . . and obviously Queen Hilton did not.
ThackerAgency on April 22, 2009 at 4:32 PM
As a nearly 40 year old heterosexual male I feel I need to say the following….
I am not offended by gay men. In fact, I wish there were a LOT more of them. I do not like lesbians on the other hand and think that there should be a law against that!
(Ok, for you getalife {I know you are lurking somewhere} and the other libs I will explain)
See, lesbians are the competition….
Gay man is no threat….
Ask your mommy, she will explain it to you!
fumpbump on April 22, 2009 at 4:32 PM
Well, if two Lezbefriends go to a Ghey church the Woman minister can marry them before their female god.
Or Ken and Bruthie go to the First Church of the meat cheerio and pastor cecil marry’s them before their god Mortermer, they’d be married in their gods eyes, and maybe their dogs eyes.
But here on this planet, its the State that sanctions marriages. Why that has to be, is an old and arcane reason, but really how does Hillary and Rosie or Barney and Rahm getting married affect my marriage to my beautiful blue eyed buxom Texas blonde?
Ima no think it does. /Italian

homesickamerican on April 22, 2009 at 4:34 PM
True, completely.
But, Jet, it is messed up that Perez asked an opinion question and hasn’t stopped railing on her for her answer ever since.
Honestly, she didn’t even answer the question (of course neither did Hilton when he vlogged about how he thought she should have responded). All she really did was state her own morality on homosexuality and then added Obama’s line on marriage.
That’s not something people should be railed on.

Miss California is more glamorous. This girl comes across as the cute girl in school who will do or say whatever it takes to be popular.

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don’t have public eductions, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., er, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to support gay marriage for our future for our children.

If their home states had been reversed, Miss North Carolina would have been the one to get the gay marriage question, since the whole idea of asking it to that one particular person was Perez’s reaction to California voters decision on Prop 8 last November.
But 60 hours after the fact, I’m sure Donald Trump and NBC’s people had fully gone over the proper lines with the pageant’s lawyers before submitting them to the new Miss USA, so she’s know what to say in front of the media without causing any more problems (or at least the problems they’re worried about — how Miss USA will fare in her new role if the conventional wisdom is she’s pro gay marriage remains to be seen. It will definitely be a short-term gain in the entertainment world, but Miss USAs tend to fade back into obscurity after the initial publicity tour if they don’t win Miss Universe, and once there tend to gain what little new publicity they get more from flyover country than from the coastal entertainment centers).
