Inevitable: Palin hit with new ethics complaint for speaking at pro-life fundraiser

posted at 5:50 pm on April 22, 2009 by Allahpundit

Another day, another bogus charge meant to taint her with an accusation and bleed her dry in legal fees. That defense fund can’t start soon enough.

Anchorage resident Sondra Tompkins, child disability advocate and mother of a special needs child, is filing the complaint after observing Governor Palin repeatedly display “a pattern of unethical behavior.” Sondra believes that the tipping point for her was Sarah Palin’s most recent abdication of her role as Governor and apparent conflict-of-interest when she spoke at two outside events in Indiana rather than work with the Alaska Legislature during the most critical time, the end of the session.

Follow the first link to Conservatives 4 Palin, which has interesting background on Tompkins. As irritating as this penny-ante harassment is, I don’t think it hurts her. The defense fund will pay off the debt with ease. What hurts her is the freak-show material, especially given the perception that she already has a gravitas deficit. And the hits just keep on coming.

Defector01 on April 22, 2009 at 5:52 PM

the best part is that Obama abdicated his duties in the Senate and no one on the left cared. This isn’t about the ethics charge, this is about creating a storyline against hr in 2012 or 2016. The left is not stupid, vile, but not stupid.

The war on the morals and values of our country is rising to a frenzy. Obama may be right. Adults now will never recognize the United States of our children. Never in our history has a president put his own beliefs ahead of those of the nation that elected him.

volsense on April 22, 2009 at 5:54 PM

Of ALL the complaints against Palin, the only self inflicted one is the Levi/Bristol drama. All these ethics complaints are so bogus and ridiculous. Those who issue complaints that are thrown out because they have no merit should be charged fees to the court for the time wasted for having to deal with them.

portlandon on April 22, 2009 at 5:55 PM

For those of you from the other 49 states but Alaska do you know if your governor would have been subject to an ethics violation for speaking a pro-life dinner?

Ghoul aid on April 22, 2009 at 5:55 PM

This reminds me of….hmmmmm….Oh Yeah!

“Eighty-four ethics charges, most of which were leveled by House Democratic Whip David Bonior, were filed against Speaker Gingrich during his term, including claiming tax-exempt status for a college course run for political purposes. 83 of the 84 were dropped.”

If a lefty ever mentions Gingrich’s ethics problems, ask them what exactly he (allegedly) did. (Blank stare).

We called it “Never Say Die” in High School Football. It’s a drill … one man with a football vs four other dudes – and they just keep pounding the life out of you. You can shake one, two – but they keep coming. It’s a character building drill – how long can you survive until you give up?

We can’t let them do this to her. We need to seek these folks who are torturing her … and expose all their dirty little secrets – and demonstrate outside their homes and workplaces.

This is crazy – just crazy. No … it doesn’t hurt her – and in the long run it helps because every bogus charge thrown at her just solidifies the case that they are ALL bogus.

But it’s the money, and the attention. She’s being weighted down by the opposition because they don’t want her to get a foot in the door.

Anchorage resident Sondra Tompkins, child disability advocate and mother of a special needs child, is filing the complaint after observing Governor Palin repeatedly display “a pattern of unethical behavior.”

Sounds like Tompkins is pissed because unlike GOV PALIN she has been reduced to being “an advocate” [how many people, besides our dumbo ears president, think special needs children may not need so many "advocates" but instead need people, unlike dumbo ears, not to make fun of them?????] ~ seriously, Sondra, go back to your family and leave the Palin family alone already. Got it?

Mommypundit on April 22, 2009 at 6:06 PM

I didn’t see anything about Tompkins background following the link, but it’s time she (Tompkins) be investigated for harassment of a gubernatorial official with these trifling ethics suits…how much time or money do these suits cost the taxpayers of Alaska?

These suits she brings up on Palin are far more distracting for her as a governor than any out-of-town speaking engagement. Who’s funding the “work” of this Wack Job, Tompkins? I doubt she’s acting alone–there’s some weird motivation going on here–or maybe she’s getting paid for her “services”.

In the meantime, I’ll keep hoping she steps unknowingly into a speeding snowplow…

RepubChica on April 22, 2009 at 6:06 PM

Considering that Palin had breakfast the next morning with special needs children and their parents, it makes this moron who filed this complain really look stupid. What is the complaint? That she talked to other special needs parents, not the twit who was back in Alaska? I bet this twit is being paid by Soros.

karenhasfreedom on April 22, 2009 at 6:07 PM

There is NO gravitas problem. Sarah is a proven leader.

The freak show won’t hurt her: instead it makes her morals and ethics even more evident. Let the moron lunatic fringe whine. It just makes them look more moronic.

AubieJon on April 22, 2009 at 6:07 PM

Obama is also using the ‘drain the swamp’ strategy advocated by Mao. His goal is to completely isolate her from support and supporters. It appears he may be getting his way until we hear that Sarah has brought on board some skilled advisors to help her to buttress such allegations.

Obama’s tentacles spread wide indeed. Could it reach a point that nobody prominent wants to admit sympathizing with Sarah Palin, let alone knowing her under fear of retribution?

2nd Those that voted down WAR who was to be the AG were doing it for political reasons, not for his back ground. As they wanted someone for a certain seat and Sarah said no due to demographics.

Since when does the Governor have to “work with” the Legislature? Aren’t they two separate branches of government?

Maybe “upinak” can help me here, but doesn’t the Alaska Governor have a specified number of days (10 days in the Federal Constitution) to decide whether to sign or veto a bill passed by the Legislature?

If she travels to Indiana without using State funds, and returns within the specified time, she’s done nothing wrong.

Googled Tompkins and found an Anchorage, Alaska article dating back from 3/2008–way before Palin was in the national spotlight…the article was about Palin’s new pregnancy and how woman in the state felt about it. Here’s Sondra’s comment:

Sondra Tompkins is staying at home with two little boys, one of whom has special needs. She doesn’t like what she sees as a subtext in all the Palin talk this week — that somehow a woman with a job works harder.

“I think there needs to be some way to quantify what is hard,” she said.

Tompkins has been a nurse, a soldier, and a pharmaceutical sales representative. She’d love to go back to work, but there’d be a heavy cost. Her husband is a physician, and her children would never see a parent, she said.

“Sometimes the choices aren’t really yours.”

Often, it’s a matter of support, she said.

Sarah Palin snaps her fingers and she’ll get what she wants,” she said. “You go to Elmendorf, and you see a woman with children that’s about to deploy, she doesn’t get to do that.”

Got jealousy much, Sondra?

Strong, conservative women…..we are a force, upinak. I understand, but know that we miss you and there was a few that defended you over there.

Yep I know… I call them like I see them. Tell those I said hello….

Hmmm… don’t you think it odd that I (or even you) have to deal with fraudulant violations and yet the person who filed them using our tax paying money, gets away with it?

That isn’t using the lawyers who were “hired” in an effective manner.

Wow – I imagine it really frosted her that Gov Palin could return to work in spite of having children and she was stuck at home resenting the fact that her husband wasn’t that helpful.

These lawyers could be used in a far better purpose than chasing their tails dealing with these ridiculous and obviously flawed charges.

Could they be fined for causing the misuse of government resources?

I actually really feel sorry for her, just because she wanted to serve her country and state.

deidre on April 22, 2009 at 7:08 PM

We need to quit playing nice. I don’t care what people say about the dignity of maintaining the high road. We need to find Democrats to target and make their life hell.

Mark1971 on April 22, 2009 at 5:52 PM

A year ago I might have disagreed. But no more. Find Dem’s to target and make legal and ethical road kill out of them.

Hog Wild on April 22, 2009 at 7:11 PM

How do liberals (err progressives) react when they are angry or fearful?

They get mean and petty.

Why are they so afraid of Gov. Palin? They have been attacking her since she gained a national presence.

Mark1971 on April 22, 2009 at 5:52 PM

Ditto. They were vile, nasty and lied to no end the last election … and they won.

We wouldn’t need to lie.

darwin on April 22, 2009 at 7:13 PM

I’m telling you, these hacks up there in Alaska are slipping. I expected them to file this ethics complaint days ago. The anklebiters are disengaged from their supporters.

Her mere presence and accomplishments, as a pro-life conservative mother … shoot everything they preach about and stand for all to hell.

She threatens them like holy water to a vampire.
